    Quintessential heavy metal. I'm 67 years old and still listening to this stuff. I've co-evolved with the Priest and Black Sabbath. This music never gets old. Rock On!

      Absolutely, I have been listening to this band since their first album and was lucky enough to seem this line up several times in the early days of theatrical rock. YES in a theatre where you can hear and see everything up close and personal. I worked in that theatre and even as a very young man was running the crews in that theatre. OH my God the concerts I have seen in that building. Thousands for sure. Even ACDC with Bon on their first USA tour with Priest and UFO with Shenker. Can you imagine that with a back stage pass all day. UFO's production manager kept my nose packed all fkn day and night until they left the building.

    Glenn's lead playing is mind blowing, even when he's not going at top speed, you can hear that heavy blues influence, you can hear a bit or Rory Gallagher and Peter Green. But it's still so uniquely Glenn. The way he outlines chords is his solos is such a beautiful compliment to KK's raw improvised style. And I think you can hear the influence his phrasing has on Rob's vocal phrasing, especially the improvised parts ("you take the bullet, on which my na-AME!!"), Rob sounds unbelievable here! Greatest metal band of all time.

  • @thebreeze12
    @thebreeze12 10 років тому +150

    What a landmark album in 1980. You also get Back in black from AC/DC, Ace of Spades from Motorhead. Metal took on a new life at this time, and no doubt British Steel set the tone for the rest of the 1980's. Breaking the Law, Living after Midnight, and Metal Gods garner the most attention because of the airplay they receive, but the best tunes on that album, IMO are Steeler, Rapid Fire and Grinder. Priest are THE GREATEST METAL BAND EVER.......PERIOD. It's well known that Sabbath started it, Metallica has sold the most, Maiden may be more popular, but Priest took what Sabbath did, gave metal that edge and crunch with the twin guitars, and with Halfords vocals, they epitomize the essence of what a true metal band is. Then in late 1989 or early 1990 they wrote a simple tune called Painkiller and solidified what I said above!!

    • @thebreeze12
      @thebreeze12 9 років тому +6

      Andy Mackie I respect your opinion but even though both Priest and Maiden are "heavy metal" I always thought of Maiden as more of a punk style metal with a prog (Rush style) sound where Priest are more that traditional style crunch. I think Maiden topped out with Piece of Mind. Powerslave was okay it has Aces high and 2 minutes to midnight. Piece of Mind is my favorite Maiden album!! It's funny though because there always seem to be a bit of rivalry between Priest and Maiden fans!! But as I said in my original post, the 4 bands I mentioned are the most important bands of that genre and I have to give kudos to Pantera for keeping metal alive during the late 90's early 2000's by not compromising there style or sound!!

Live was a religious experience. Halford is 70!!!!!!! He STILL has his voice. The best voice in metal. Remember people, Priest basically invented metal and have reigned on top ever since. Don't forget KK downing man. He's freaking awesome too. I just love the entire band. They create magic when they are together jamming out some crazy delicious chords. My heart races EVERY TIME I blast The Sentinel at work. (Love to see the looks I get from my coworkers!!!!) Off the beaten track
    That's where there's thunder
    And the wind shouts back

    Looking for meat
    Grinder
    Wants you to eat
    Got no use for routine
    I shiver at the thought
    Open skies are my scene
    That's why I won't get caught
    Refuse to bite the mantrap
    Be led to set the snare
    I love to have my sight capped everywhere
    Grinder

    Grinder
    Wants you to eat

    It came with birth
    For self reliance on this earth
    You take the bullet
    On which my name
    Was etched upon in your game
    Day of independence
    Stamped us like a brand
    Round the necks of millions

    This song describes my first time exactly. It was my best friends older sister. It was 84. I was 12 and she was 17. Heavy into metal her band was the Crue. She worshipped Nikki Sixx. I did exactly what Rob describes. My friends room and hers was seperated by a restroom. I stood in the mirror looking at myself for 3 hours til I said "Fuck it" and opened the door and went to her bed. I remember Billy Idol was singing Rebel Yell on the radio in her room. I leaned down and whispered her name and the rest is history. Motley Crue, OZZY, preist, Dokken,Billy Idol, all the early greats were plastered on her wall. Nikki Sixx was and still is her man. Id die tonite just to live the decade that was "THE 80S" over again. It was and always will be the best and most blessed time to have grown up in. That tiny window of time, damn it was simply #1.

    Always an awesome recipe for mood lifting! Love this band. I'll never forget seeing them live in a place called Louie's rock city in Falls Church in the late 70's. 1500 capacity venue, 2 shows that night and they were just on the cusp of getting big, and it was glorious! Both shows were sold out, and everyone who didn't have tickets were outside in the parking lot partying like they were inside - you could hear everything from there, it was a metal show!

    One of my all time favorites, good to see Glenn in top form and everyone firing on all cylinders. Almost 62 and want nothing to do with crap that's out today. Still pledge allegiance to Priest and all the other metal bands I was fortunate enough to witness all kick ass music of my generation. 🤘🎤🎸🥁

      +Blind Faith There are a few songs on Point of Entry, Jugulator/Demolition and Rocka Rolla that could be considered as bad compared to the Priest standards ;)

    • @nanio96
      @nanio96 9 років тому +5

      +LinkyHYC Just for the record in Jugulator and Demolition it's Tim"The Ripper" Owens who sings in them... so I don't think we count that.

      nanio96 Doesn't matter who sings on those, there are still Priest records. Do you also not consider Redeemer Of Souls to be a Priest record since KK is not playing on that one?

    You can search for a lifetime, and you will not find a band that stayed on the top, releasing excellent albums and give peak performance live concerts, for so long like Priest did, from Sad wings to Firepower, Masterpiece after Masterpiece.
    Long live Judas.
