🤘🤘 51 here, you guys have it right down to 11 years old when rocka rolla came out, I was that at when Defenders came out, and it sent me on my 40 years of metal!
That's how I will remember Glenn Tipton. As a heavy metal legend, one of the best guitarists ever. He will always be a big part of Judas Priest. We love you!
This is the best version of Steeler ever. You can tell by this video that the band really enjoyed playing this song. This video is another reason why KK Downing needs to be back in the band. He is that important to the history of Judas Priest. This is one of the last times that the classic four members of Judas Priest performed together and it was still amazing.
Listening to the radio at age 13 late at night. A song comes on called "Rock Hard, Ride Free". Been a fan ever since. Turn 55 next month and still blast this stuff in the car.
A completely forgotten song from British Steel!!! An up tempo classic that shows why Priest are widely considered one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Sabbath may have started it, Maiden may be more popular and Metallica have sold the most albums, but I don't think any band deserves more credit than Priest for creating that bone crunching style of guitar and Halford's signature vocals I believe set the standard to which every other metal band is judged. They took what Sabbath did and brought that twin guitar attack with a more precise and sharp sound that shaped the way for everybody else that followed!!
Absolutely agree. Steeler is monumental metal. Also rather unique in that there is no chorus on this one, which adds a particularly epic menace to the build of the roaring finale.
You’re not that far behind, man. I turned 63 today. Got turned on to Halford and company in 1978. Likes me some 4:05 old school priest. And Scott Travis is one hell of a drummer.
@@sillybilly1662 It ain K-pop that's for sure... check out the likes of LOVEBITES and UNDEAD CORPORATION ...Bruce Dickinson from the progressive metal band Iron Maiden I think would approve.
I saw Priest for the 1st time Nov. 1, 1979 at the Triangle Theatre in Rochester, NY. I was with 2 of my buddies and we each took 2 hits of acid before the show. The venue allowed the audience to get right up to the stage so we wrestled our way up and stood right in front of K.K. Downing the whole show. During some of his solo's, K.K. came over to us and would kneel down and let us touch his guitar and whammy bar while he was playing the solo. Totally blew our minds! After the show as we were walking out my one buddy ran his hands through his hair(it was 1979 we all had long hair back then) and low and behold he found one of K.K.'s picks. Needless to say, it was a special night in our young lives. I've been hooked on the band ever since.
I waited 30 years to hear Priest play this song live; in particular, "The Riff." After the final note faded into the night, I made eye contact with an elderly man standing just a few feet away. He smiled, he cried a single tear, and then he laid down and died. The last item on his bucket list had been fulfilled.
Thankyou I was 10 when my father left his family of 4 boys all younger than me. He left his wife also. He asked me to raise them to be good men. Looking for guidance from an adult male was all I needed and terribly wanted. So I went to the Judas priest concert at she 13 . 3rd row half way through the second and half through the song he was singing. Rob Halford looked down at me never removing his eyes from mine he asked me"" What do you want""? Never removing his eyes he asked again the same question. Now KK Downing stood next to him and both asked me again their eyes solid never from my eyes ""What do you want"" So I held up my leather jacket boldly in the air. Be named up held the l microphone to his mouth and pointed at me and said loudly "" I. know what you want.. The lyrics from each song was exactly what I needed to guide me down my pAtu. This was and still forever be the greatest concert ever.
The "metal guitar jam" in the last 2-3 minutes is really something special !!! This version of Steeler is the best ever made, it seems. The laser show in the end, fits like a glove, too :) :) :)
Agreed! They seemed to go in to some "zone" and brought us all there with them. Nothing to do do but soak it all in and enjoy pure unadulterated heavy metal!
This is the epicenter of the genre kids. This is what all your metal hero’s listened to and derived their style from. This album and unleashed in the east created thousands of metalhead guitarists.. this version is incredible…
Glenn Tipton is just absolutely phenomenal! Became the Metal Standard in style of writing and playing technique. Effortless with no wasted movements! Metal God for sure!
I have seen Priest on 5 different tours streching from 1982 to 1997 my last Priest show I saw in person when "Ripper" was standing in for Rob on vocals and I never seen them play this live till now. THANKYOU for sharing this legendary performance of one of their great "ER" songs(Sinner, Ripper, Exciter, Deceiver, etc.) that belongs in Metal history!!
I was 13 the first time I heard this and it just blew me away and absolutely flored my my mom and dad not in a good way that was 81 bless you mom and dad im still making the house shake!! And I still get goose bumps when I crank it up !
Agreed!!! The quintessential metal of the 70s at its best. The song just plain jams!!! I too love the ending so much that I used to record it off the vinyl to cassette for my car and mess the volumes of each guitar and blast it as they took turns and then the last chord of the song (an Em I believe) the loudest!!! Almost scared people in the car! Lol
This song is the standard for all great metal. The heaviest song of its era. Judas Priest at their absolute, damned finest. Metal does not get better than this. From the greatest metal record of all-time. Saw them so many times I lost count. But none more memorable than in December of 1982 in Indianapolis at Market Square Arena on Screaming For Vengeance. 39 years later. Still get chills remembering that show. A metal performance for the ages!
Ever since I was 13 and first heard this song, I have always held this song in high regards as a definitive heavy metal song. On this video at 2:59 I start to fall into a state of pure metal bliss. It's like a pinnacle of perfection.

Man i think i rewatch this at least once a week
Same.
Rob sounds great in that lower range.
There is nothing better than
JUDAS PRIEST at all !

It's obviously that this song and Rapid Fire were huge influences on Metallica and the entire speed and thrash metal movement.
