Lyrics:
Catch the play now, eye to eye
Don't let chances pass you by
Always someone at your back
Biding their time for attack
Check for decoys, stay sharp edged
Double-crossers get your head
Carpet-baggers bluff and strike
Kiss of Judas, spider like
Waiting like jackals to sneak up and trick you
Wolves in sheep's clothing, so deft in consoling
Lurking in shadows, they pounce least expected
When you come to, they'll have gone right through you
Tricksters, jilters play their game
Sleight-of-handers, all the same
Masquerader in his lair
Wants to tangle in your hair
One of the most underrated Priest songs.
The whole album is underrated, but the best.
A completely forgotten song from British Steel!!! An up tempo classic that shows why Priest are widely considered one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Sabbath may have started it, Maiden may be more popular and Metallica have sold the most albums, but I don't think any band deserves more credit than Priest for creating that bone crunching style of guitar and Halford's signature vocals I believe set the standard to which every other metal band is judged. They took what Sabbath did and brought that twin guitar attack with a more precise and sharp sound that shaped the way for everybody else that followed!!
thebreeze12 yes indeed
It's obviously that this song and Rapid Fire were huge influences on Metallica and the entire speed and thrash metal movement.
thebreeze12 Sabbath made it Heavy, but the Priest made it Metal!
thebreeze12 Well said.
Absolutely agree. Steeler is monumental metal. Also rather unique in that there is no chorus on this one, which adds a particularly epic menace to the build of the roaring finale.
This is how it is done folks. Metal school in session.
Hammers on the anvils ...Padawans.
Right on!!
yep, I guess this is one the tightest bands ever :D
Absolutely! They sped up Sabbath's crunch in serving as a bridge to modern metal. 🤘🏻
You got that right
That's how I will remember Glenn Tipton. As a heavy metal legend, one of the best guitarists ever. He will always be a big part of Judas Priest. We love you!
He's not dead HES WRITING NEW MUSIC TO THE FOLLOW UP TO FIREPOWER !!!! Get Excited !!!
Well said
Ya know, who ever suggested Priest hire a second guitarist back in 73 or 74,was a genius!
@@EricRolpheNyenhuis I heard that too,2more albums will be an even 20. Hope he can still do studio.
@@bloodstone6196 It was KK.
No wrinkled t shirts and no woe is me alternative sound. Just metal music with balls. Kids this is how the big boys do it. Follow, learn and succeed.
The masters at work.
This is the best version of Steeler ever. You can tell by this video that the band really enjoyed playing this song. This video is another reason why KK Downing needs to be back in the band. He is that important to the history of Judas Priest. This is one of the last times that the classic four members of Judas Priest performed together and it was still amazing.
i saw faulkner perform on the epitaph tour, and he and tipton did pure magic. it was no KK, not better nor worse, it was just a different magic
MacIntosh amps Klipsch stacked ..this song shakes my neighbor's walls
@@rlk4321 ...lucky man 🤘🤘🤘
I agree 💯
@@rlk4321 let me guess. When you listen to this track...so do your neighbors! Neighborhood! High 5!
you cant be more metal than this
Yes man. You all rigth
Completely agree, this is HEAVY
@@mael-strom9707
No? J-metal is absolute shite.
@@mael-strom9707 J metal? Lol. Get a life pal.
@@bobbybingle1662 It ain K-pop that's for sure... check out the likes of LOVEBITES and UNDEAD CORPORATION ...Bruce Dickinson from the progressive metal band Iron Maiden I think would approve.
ATTENTION YOUNGSTERS!!!! This is how the pros do it! They put on a better show than groups 1/4 of their age! Priest always delivers!
I need a joint!
100% . Priest Are in their own league.
Unfortunately, i dont think we will see bands like this anymore
They deliver the goods. haha
Man i think i rewatch this at least once a week
This final riff is ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!!!!
YES I agree with you 💯
Wish the riff at the end was 20 minutes long
Fuck it, an hour would be even better.
I am happy that I am not alone with this feeling
The same with Metal Gods ending section, it's brilliant
The amount of adrenaline from just that riff alone is intense it truly resonates with you.
@@user-et1di7vg9s exactly
Overall my favorite band ! I'm 62😂
Mine too and i am also 62❤
You're old I heard Judas Priest the first time when I was 6 also my favorite band RIP Rob Halford😊😊😊
🤘🤘 51 here, you guys have it right down to 11 years old when rocka rolla came out, I was that at when Defenders came out, and it sent me on my 40 years of metal!
DAMN!! They don't make metal like this anymore!! The twin-axe attack of Downing and Tipton is the best!! LONG LIVE THE PRIEST!!
Glenn Tipton is just absolutely phenomenal! Became the Metal Standard in style of writing and playing technique. Effortless with no wasted movements! Metal God for sure!
This might be the best JP concert EVER. The whole band was on f'ing point! 🤘
Steeler is still probably one of the most bad ass song they have
Kam Kam They should play it live more often.
It's hard to compete with painkiller, but yes, it's a very badass song
Hell Patrol played in this gig is pretty damn good to. But I agree with you
This track... STEELER.... Sets the bar that cannot be touched!!! The heaviest... HEAVY METAL track ever created!!!
Rapid fire is right there with this
@@markhuddleston5810 Agree on Rapid Fire.
That is correct
It's not the heaviest ever created
Metal gods!! Kk and Glenn dominate forever!
Ian Hill's heavy and solid picking is one of the reasons this song is so great.
Best heavy metal álbum
Best singer
Best guitarist
Best performance
Best cover álbum
Simply the BEST BAND
Except for Black Sabbath.
HOF is a joke
Best guitaristSSSSS!!!
Amen brother!
what about Bass? lol not that i care since i prefer guitar.
A smoking version of this song... they just absolutely ripped it here... pure fire 🔥
I waited 30 years to hear Priest play this song live; in particular, "The Riff." After the final note faded into the night, I made eye contact with an elderly man standing just a few feet away. He smiled, he cried a single tear, and then he laid down and died. The last item on his bucket list had been fulfilled.
Je devais aller au médecin je suis guéri a 62 ans je prends toujours au temps de plaisir à écouter Judas Priest the best
KK Downing is massively underrated
Kk and Glenn are God's together!!
Exactly. Listen to tracks like Deep Freeze and the beginning of Sinner. Without pioneering solos like that, Kerry King would be just another neoclassical shredder.
@@thomallom5906 two things that should never be mentioned in the same sentence , neoclassical and kerry king . the dude uses his whammy bar and that's about the extent of his ability .
@@thomallom5906 the difference between KK Downing and kerry king , KK can actually play solos lol
@@440Nichole7.2 I completely agree tht his whammy bar use is out of control. He has said that his inspiration for thrash was Priest's "Dissident Aggressor" and that his influence is KK. Thus the whammy bar.
He's not neoclassical. But if there hadn't been a KK Downing and JP, he would most likely be (badly) immitating people like Jason Becker.
This song is heavy as balls
Heavy as Osmium balls
steel balls
Mael-Strom i
Balls to the wall man))
I saw Priest for the 1st time Nov. 1, 1979 at the Triangle Theatre in Rochester, NY. I was with 2 of my buddies and we each took 2 hits of acid before the show. The venue allowed the audience to get right up to the stage so we wrestled our way up and stood right in front of K.K. Downing the whole show. During some of his solo's, K.K. came over to us and would kneel down and let us touch his guitar and whammy bar while he was playing the solo. Totally blew our minds!
After the show as we were walking out my one buddy ran his hands through his hair(it was 1979 we all had long hair back then) and low and behold he found one of K.K.'s picks.
Needless to say, it was a special night in our young lives. I've been hooked on the band ever since.
That's an awesome story
Listening to the radio at age 13 late at night. A song comes on called "Rock Hard, Ride Free". Been a fan ever since. Turn 55 next month and still blast this stuff in the car.
Ever since I was 13 and first heard this song, I have always held this song in high regards as a definitive heavy metal song. On this video at 2:59 I start to fall into a state of pure metal bliss. It's like a pinnacle of perfection.
The ultimate heavy metal song.
my new fav song.
downing's lead work is sick!
he killliiinnn it here damn
There is nothing better than
JUDAS PRIEST at all !
This riff never fails to want me to turn it up to 11.Fantastic sound from both guitars.
The "metal guitar jam" in the last 2-3 minutes is really something special !!! This version of Steeler is the best ever made, it seems. The laser show in the end, fits like a glove, too :) :) :)
Agreed! They seemed to go in to some "zone" and brought us all there with them. Nothing to do do but soak it all in and enjoy pure unadulterated heavy metal!
Absolutely, this is one of my secret favorites. Would like the entire concert on DVD.
This made me buy the songs from Itunes. They are just heavier and orgasmic! KK & Glenn the duo!
It's incredible!!! The best ever!!!
This song is the standard for all great metal. The heaviest song of its era. Judas Priest at their absolute, damned finest. Metal does not get better than this. From the greatest metal record of all-time. Saw them so many times I lost count. But none more memorable than in December of 1982 in Indianapolis at Market Square Arena on Screaming For Vengeance. 39 years later. Still get chills remembering that show. A metal performance for the ages!
So effing good bro!
These guys have been brutal for decades!
My favorite band of all time.
That dual attack endning always blows me away! Goosebumps!
Agreed!!! The quintessential metal of the 70s at its best. The song just plain jams!!! I too love the ending so much that I used to record it off the vinyl to cassette for my car and mess the volumes of each guitar and blast it as they took turns and then the last chord of the song (an Em I believe) the loudest!!! Almost scared people in the car! Lol
One of the best heavy metal songs.
The essence of Metal. That's Judas Priest
Ladies and Gentleman ...... this is Metal.
Yes definitely
clearly the best heavy metal band ever !!
The Gods of Metal in action
Steeler der beste Havy Metal Song aller Zeiten. Mehr geht nicht .🤘🤘🤘
Thankyou I was 10 when my father left his family of 4 boys all younger than me. He left his wife also. He asked me to raise them to be good men. Looking for guidance from an adult male was all I needed and terribly wanted. So I went to the Judas priest concert at she 13 . 3rd row half way through the second and half through the song he was singing. Rob Halford looked down at me never removing his eyes from mine he asked me"" What do you want""? Never removing his eyes he asked again the same question. Now KK Downing stood next to him and both asked me again their eyes solid never from my eyes ""What do you want"" So I held up my leather jacket boldly in the air. Be named up held the l
microphone to his mouth and pointed at me and said loudly "" I. know what you want.. The lyrics from each song was exactly what I needed to guide me down my pAtu. This was and still forever be the greatest concert ever.
The ending to this song is so great. So simple, but it's the length of it that makes it awesome by the time it's done.
Exactly! Live, Priest goes on these extended noise/bludgeoning trips, especially towards the end of their set. And it's magic every time.
Flawless performance from a group of straight up bad asses.....
that is what you call tight
A lot of bands may have put 2 guitarists on stage but the dueling guitars of K.K. & GLEN are about as clean & vicious as it gets
Oh my goodness. I just had a shiver moment. Outstanding. Simply outstanding.
When Priest lost KK, they didn't just lose his awesome playing... they also lost his awesome songwriting... and this song is a great example of what they lost.
Totally
Without K.K. in the band it's just not the same... never will be.... I love Glen Tipton but without the both of them together it's just not JP...
@@friotaiocht101Maybe…..maybe not. I have seen them quite a few times over the years, mostly with KK and Glenn. The last time I saw them was with Ritchie, and what can I say but ‘wow’. He definitely keeps the spirit alive.
I'm not going to totally shut him down but for me as a long time Priest fan that dates back from their very beginnings it just isn't the same for me & though I've only seem them twice I can honestly say there's nothing like those two guys in the line-up...@@yorkshirelad1050
Good for you & that's your opinion... "keeping the spirit alive" is great but you & I both know that Downing & Tipton can't be replicated....@@yorkshirelad1050
still 1 of the best priest songs of All time!!!!
This is the epicenter of the genre kids. This is what all your metal hero’s listened to and derived their style from. This album and unleashed in the east created thousands of metalhead guitarists.. this version is incredible…
This one's JUST NOT LONG ENOUGH! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🎄🤘🏼🤘🏼
My favourite from British Steel. Perfect driving song.
Gauntlet My favorite as well. I never get tired of listening to this song. I agree on the perfect driving song as well. However, there is just one slight problem with driving while listening to it and that is you may just find flashing red lights in your rear view mirror because your foot was pressed heavily on the gas, thus causing you to go 100+ MPH. JUDAS PRIEST & HEAVY METAL FOREVER AND EVER. :)
What a great band. What a great song. Judas Priest are immortal
That usually happens to ALL Gods like ytheyu are
I remember listening to it in the early 80s with my headphones on as it went back and forth from one ear to the other. "The riff" is unexpected, totally superfluous, and perfect in every way.
Oh YES definitely
This entire show is one of the most amazing pinnacle's of a band's professionalism, and extreme talent, and if that wasn't enough, the lights and sound are perfect
Love this CLASSIC JP line up ..... miss the old times
ME too
Judas Priest forever. Greetings from Holland
3.12 kk enters the arena, with the riff, game over man, just a goddam masterclass, true heavy metal 👏
This song is unbelievably good, what a performance!
Great song! Pure heavy metal, powerful, fast, granite ... the instrumental interlude is pure energy, impossible to stay still without moving your head and let yourself be carried away by the force that only this immense band could express!
Malgré mes rhumatismes j ai 62 ans je bouge comme a 16 ans
IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST.... BEST LIVE BANDS EVER
This is one of their best perfomances! Mindblowing rhythm!!
This performance brings me to tears.
I just cried too.
The build up to the ending is so damn powerful.... PRIEST!
One of their best deeper tracks..absolutely blisteringly heavy and perfect in delivery.
Underated song...🤘
I agree 💯
@@laurasupko British Steel is a cornerstone of all METAL discographies and this song is the quintessence of it! It is only underestimated by those who don't understand a thing about HEAVY METAL!!!!
I was 13 the first time I heard this and it just blew me away and absolutely flored my my mom and dad not in a good way that was 81 bless you mom and dad im still making the house shake!! And I still get goose bumps when I crank it up !
one of their best ever songs
Absolutely EPIC!!! LOVE this live version, brings back memories!! With the (almost) original line up, KK, Tipton, Hill, and Halford. Travis does a most awesome job on the kit too. Man, the roads this band has paved. Long live The Priest!
KK, Tipton, Halford ... ... and Hill!!
@@simonmcelrea7231 Thank you for catching that!! No idea how I missed that, but I've since corrected.
But to your main point: a sensational live performance of an absolutely immense slab of heavy metal!! I'm very new to Priest, but I can see the sheer brilliance of the band ... it shines like a white dwarf!!! 🌟
@@simonmcelrea7231 Welcome to the Priest-hood! If I may suggest, do check out their "Unleashed in the East" live album, followed by British Steel album (where Steeler was first released). These are 2 pillars in their metal stack that elevated their stardom. The journey was awesome back then, it should be the same now. Rock on brother!
I imagine hearing this sound live at that day....PURE ENERGY!!!!!
Always my favorite on this album. Shows the true Metal attitude of the best Judas Era. Incredible riffing. KK for ever….
Speed medal when it wasn't even a concept. Hail to the Master's. Fantastic song so underrated
I'm 48 and still listening Priest since 11.... Judas Priest Forevaaaa!!!
These guys are legends in heavy metal music. They are in their 50's here and put on a show that puts new bands to shame.
Irish Countryman I think they are in their 60s there
Luis Poblete Could be right there.
I believe this was in 2010? At that point Glenn was 62, KK, Rob and Ian are a few years younger.
Steeler is absolutely awesome, Chord structure was simple but so powerful.
It's the best
The best band to ever walk the planet.
Played like fine wine, exquisite.
4:08 Glenn Tipton is so brutal
But we miss K.K. Downing, as well. He is a great guitarist, composer and songwriter!
Ivan Todorov of course, man! K.K. Downing is the essential part of Judas Priest. My favorite solos are Jawbreaker and One Shot At Glory played by him ;) all of them are great though
Alexey Polev The whole band is brutal!
Probably the baddest metal band on the planet
Kam Kam No, they are actually the baddest metal band on the planet! Rock on dude 🤘🏻!
Judas Priest is the world best heavy metal band in Europe & the world.
Yes definitely ❤
They really did a great job and sounds like the album, with the solos and guitar fills on point!!!!!
These guys were perfection together! Now you know why their still around, they don't suck!
The opposite of suck.
Judas Priest Is and always will be the ultimate! Every song is great 👍!
Twin-ax attack and people compare them with others, but they are like no other.
K.K DOWNING WITH GLEAN TIPTON..GREAT TWIN KILLER GUITARIST..
Joe Joseph no doubt
the best duo ever! They were a class apart!
They set one of the highest standards metal has ever seen, a standard that all dual guitar bands should aspire to.
like 4 hands on same guitar!
Still thrashing 2019 ...metal gods always.much love!!!
This guitar in this very song is the epitome of heavy metal music. The transition starting at about 2:55 and Rob's wail at 3:11 that lean in to the guitar assault are THEE moments in this song. HEAVY METAL GODS! KK and Glen are legendary, and this shows why.
I remember waiting to meet the band behind the palladium in NYC. Once inside right next to the stage and watching the chandler shake on the ceiling priceless.
Sooooo good. London Ontario here.
One of their best songs, I just love the solid, motorized double bass punch and the twin guitars during the long no vocal piece in the middle, Judas Priest rocks!
This was British Steel 30th Anniversary tour, August 17, 2009, and was filmed for DVD release. I was about 20 rows from stage on the floor, straight back from K.K. This concert was just fantastic, as you can tell. Everything from British Steel was great, highlights were The Rage, Rapid Fire, Breaking the Law, Victim of Changes, You Don't Have to be Old to be Wise, and Steeler!..the best. I was seriously Rocking Out for Steeler, this jam was smoking metal for sure.. Loved it!
I love end of this song,....mighty riffs with K.K. and Glenn screams (question-answer) on guitars :) :)
Judas Priest. Masters of reality, truly Heavy Metals Gods of Rock-N -Roll .Legends in there own time!!!
JUDAS PRIEST....NEED SAY ANYMORE?! This is Totally Awesome!!
I was a teenager when that album came out. That song sounds just as good now, as it did back then. I might have grey hair now, but I still love it!
AWESOME.
Saw them in 1980, Odessa Texas, Rob roles out on the Harley Davidson sticks the Mic to pipes and revs it up. Opening song was Rocking after midnight; I do not believe any metal group could ever eclipse these four main Corp members ever. And so an era has passed but their music will live on forever......this song in particular sums up their superiority in short order. Long live the the Metal God's the Ahlla Tollas of Rocking Rollas, Priest!!!!
I love love love this song ❤❤❤❤❤🤘🤘🎸🤘🤘i have seen them over 10 Times and I hope when I see them again in April they play this ❤🤘🤘❤️❤️
They played this song flawlessly!!!! 👌 The ending was awesome 👍
Love this song ❤️
That's priest live, Rob Halford and the band are perfect. 🎸👿🤘🤘 I ve seen them in 2004 in Germany, at the Sports hall in Böblingen. Absolutly genius and the best i've ever seen. That's Real Metal perfectly performed. 😎
3:03 - goosebumps . . . every fuckin' time.
Every fuckin time.....\\M//!!!!!
