  • Choosing to lawfully carry a Concealed Firearm is a big decision, and it should be entered into with caution and thoughtfulness. One of the biggest factors is WHAT gun to carry. After testing many, MANY guns, and after carrying for 10+ years, I've got some detailed opinions to share. My Shield 1.0 has never malfunctioned after thousands of rounds. I’ve had issues with every Glock I’ve owned, but never a single issue with my Shield. My local range ran 5k rounds through their rental without cleaning, just oil. Zero hiccups.

I'm very interested in a S&W 3913 or 3914. Finding one to try before I buy is a little difficult.
And I think the P238 may be the best .380 you can get right now. You definitely pay extra for it, though.

Hey Shane, hope you and the fam are staying healthy in these crazy times. Nice overall look at some CCW options. I think the Shield is a very accurate, low recoil and crazy reliable option. That was my previous carry before I switched to the SIG P365. I have a later born on date and have not had any issues. Keep these videos coming!!

Shane, I got a Springfield XDs that has the same sights as the Hellcat and I am amazed with its accuracy. At the time the reason for getting it vs the shield were two things, 1. the XDs held one more round in the extended magazine, and 2. I was using Cabela's bucks and they didn't have the Shield in 45. Keep up the good work, we need to go shooting sometime. Stay safe

I own and carry both the M&P Shield 9 & 45 and love them both. I own a couple of other concealed carry handguns but the Shield's are my preferred CC guns. I would definitely love to see you do a full review on the 45 Shield.

Thanks for the video. I have an LCPll, and it's not a fun gun to shoot at the range, but great when you need small. I also have S&W Shields in 9 and 40. Never had any problems with any of these pistols and I shoot them often. I find that I shoot the .40 especially well.

Another excellent review! I know you can't list them all... but 3 "suggestions" 1. I love my Sig Sauer P938 Equinox Micro-Compact. I had a gunsmith replace the plastic trigger with a Titanium "after market" trigger... and adjust the trigger pull and reset ( to minimal )... and it just shoots great for me! 2. I bought a S&W .38 "Bodyguard" for myself a few years back... and my wife after shooting it a few times traded me for her "Wiley Clapp" GP100 .357 (Doh!). She just keeps it in her glove box but can handle it quit well... 3. A good friend of mine just bought a new Springfield Armory "Hellcat" and he loves it! He's a mostly hand gun enthusiast, likes to "collect" them... but this one he says he's going carry, which is quite an endorsement for me. Also, one honorable mention... I have Ruger SP101 .357 which I find quite handy... fits in my back pocket, front pocket, IWB or OWB holster quiet well ( not a problem to conceal ) and shoots great! A bit of a "tank killer" perhaps... but would consider for any "in a pinch" situations as well... Thanks again for sharing!

I like your picks. Also, I totally agree with your evaluation of the Kahr CW 380. It's the only gun I ever bought that I wished i hadn't. So frustrating for the same reasons you mentioned. I would like to know what improvements a gunsmith could do and what the cost would be. Right now, it's useless to me.

I previously owned a PM9, and currently own a P380. I never had any issues with either of them, including during the break-in period. I don't know if it is a difference between the CM/CW and P series, or I was just lucky, but there you go. I replaced the PM9 with the Shield, and replaced the Shield with the P365 , but I would carry any of those without reservation.

I’m surprised you did not include Sig P238 in there. Today, I had a chance to take my newly purchased P238 to the range for the first time and I found it to be a super smooth buttery recoil gun. I’m no gun expert, but as a lay person it’s my favorite piece amongst 4 pistols that I own. The price might be an issue for some people, but it’s well worth the $600 bucks.

I chose the Kahr CW9 over the Shield because I don't care for manual safeties, though I know a small number of Shield owners who carry without the safety engaged. TBH, I prefer the Kahr's feel now that I carry it.

When I first got my CM9, I hated it. and I already had a CT380 AND K9 that I love! (try the CT 380!!). Now, I love it as a lighter sometimes option to the K9 with a bit more bite than the CT380 (which is still a primary carry for me.)
Love my 642, also! I guess I just like the Double Action Trigger.
ANd of course the Shield ROCKS. I won't pay the P365 price for another 2 rounds! I use Magguts for 9-10 rounds. work great!
Great video. I AM disappointed that your CW380 is not good.

Like my kahr cm-9 no malfunctions, comfortable with true pocket carry, and perfectly fine shooting +p+. not sure why sig365 and springfield hellcat not shown. love my p238 super easy for more recoil sensitive shooter.

Good list. I’m partial to the NA Pug. Never owned a .380, but probably would buy a Glock first and a Ruger second. I pocket carry a S&W Bodyguard. Bought a Shield. Still have it. Replaced it with an issued Glock 43. Carry it IWB and use Taran Tactical mag extensions.

It's a shame the CW380 has so many lemons out there. I could feel the frustration watching your videos on it. I'm one of the lucky ones you mentioned that ended up with a CW380 that works great. While picky (it will NOT feed fiocchi FMJ), mine has been 100% reliable once I found ammo that works. I carry it more often than any other pistol, in a desantis nemesis. Incredible trigger, unbelievably shootable for such a tiny gun. Might pick up a CM9 one of these days too.

  • @MisterTengu
    @MisterTengu 4 роки тому

I wouldn't agree with most of your list for new shooters. Kahr tend to have a heavy recoil spring and any double action only trigger is going to make hitting a target harder for some one not use to it.
I like the shield, but the rest of my list might include things like the sig p238/938, the XD-S, the glock 42/43, and maybe the ruger sp101.
Personally i usually carry a CZ P10C or if i need something lower profile a sig 365xl.

the kahr cm9 is a great pistol! Better than the g43 in my opinion, I had a 642, but it had a terrible trigger pull and was difficult to connect with at more than hallway distances, of course I probably had bad technique in those days...which is just that...my opinion, Lakeland followers fix the mag issues. 😋

BS, you should def try the Ruger LCR. I have both LCR's and j frames, but I think LCR edges out the airweight 38 j's. Lighter, better trigger and the sights are easily swappable. A little more expensive though.

VERY IMPORTANT PM9 / CM9 OWNERS: Kahr shipped the earlier PM9 and CM9 with very cheap plastic followers in the magazines. THEY BREAK, BOTH OF MINE SNAPPED and I had a failure to feed at a range on one. If you are a LEO and carry this as a back up weapon or any other person there are two options. The newer plastic followers are stronger and I would call Kahr to replace them IMMEDIATELY, or they will ship for $$$$ metal ones. I think this is a great weapon but Kahr should be ashamed of them self for selling a weapon with a dangerous crap follower and should charge ZERO $$$ to replace them.

All of those guns except for the 9mm ones are just mouse guns and I wouldn't trust them to put down an assailant with anything less than a head shot. I'm disappointed that you left out every single "compact" 9mm, such as the Glock 19 and others like it. I regularly cc a Glock G19, or CZ P-07, or Beretta APX Centurion, or Sig P320 X-Carry, etc.; all of which have much higher capacity than those guns you listed and all are easily concealable unless you're wearing a jogging suit.

You can't fight with these pistols most of these tiny guns are no good for Personal defense due to their size, secondly the ammo capacity. IF you seen anything lately you don't see the attacker go down with one shot you have to put mulitple shots on target. Just a bad video that muddies the water out there for new gun owners that are trying to find their way. Just ignore the video there are betters ones out there.
