I have an original High Standard .22 Magnum derringer from 1970 I frequently carry as a street gun. It was very popular on both sides of the law in its time, has seen extensive use on the street, and was quite popular with armed professionals for a while. Often considered to be the best derringer design ever. Every Louisiana state trooper was issued one as a backup gun until 1984, when it went out of production. I once knew someone who was shot at with one! Fortunately they missed. I believe American Derringer Corporation is still making a copy of it, though I'm not sure. It is listed in their lineup still. They're remarkably slim and light, and .22 Magnum gets going up to 1,200 to 1,400 fps from the 3 1/2" barrels depending on the load. It never fails to attract attention at a range from the astonishing muzzle flash and blast from such a small gun. Recoil is a little unpleasant too.
I've got one of those. They are fun little guns. Wish they were still in production.
American Derringer makes copies of those.

I’m impressed you actually manage to hit something beyond arms reach with that little thing! Nicely done. Not really ideal for self-defense, but definitely better than nothing.
I have one! The state police in my state used to issue them as a back up many years ago! I use my middle finger to pull the trigger with my index finger resting along the barrel kind of like pointing! I guess the hard pull is for if you carry it in your pocket so it won't go of easily! I worked with a 36 year veteran narcotics detective who always had one in his boot!
I have one of these I carry it as a back up or if I’m sitting down it’s easier to get to my pocket lol but anyways, just wanted to say try shooting it with your index finger underneath the barrel and your middle finger as the trigger gives you a lot more control so it won’t slip in your hand and when you’re done using it at the range, try to have it set up for the next shot to be the bottom barrel. The bottom barrel is always spot on with the sights but the top one is a little off. Basically a get off my gun.

My grandfather made something similar to this about 20 years ago. The coolest little thing. Of course he had years of gunsmithing experience, and this was just one of his projects. I didn't get it in the will😂
These were made by High Standard, who made very good quality firearms. Someone else later made these in 9mm I believe.
Guns like these, somewhat archaic but still cheap, are why I collect all guns I can snatch up quickly.
Reminds me of a 50 dollar 22 short revolver I should of got at a pawnshop should of just got it to get it 😂

a guy in my small town has one he carries in a little cross draw owb holster and he is never without it so it must be a good little gun

More appropriate shooting would be at 3-10 FEET, as fast aa you can pull the trigger. That is a 'get off me!' gun.

That thing looks like it sux for a backup gun but any guns better than no gun an looks fun af at the range haha
Cool upgrades this gun could have:
- Ejecting shells when opening chamber for reload
- A bit more sturdier frame, improving grip and trigger design
- If this is, somehow, a top break pistol, imagine a side-break version

Kinda cool for a novelty but I could never trust my life to a 2 shot 22 magnum. For the same price and the same size you could get at least 10 shots with substantially more stopping power. It's a no brainer given a choice. This Derringer is slightly better than no firearm at all.

You did everything wrong.
You held it wrong, second finger to fire it...
You were too far away with a derringer it is a 5 foot gun at most.
Most important when loading you scraped the shell wall by not closing the top b race first, then closing the gun to lock it in place. .22 Magnum rims are delicate...
Cool, but useless with out a larger handle in my opinion
