"He Just Had A BAD SKELETON" What Really Went Wrong With Andrew Bynum! Stunted Growth

  • Jim Buss wasn’t entirely wrong in his choice to select Andrew, or give him the Kobe treatment when Kobe was a rookie, because truthfully without the growth stunts we’ll speak about today happening, Bynum would’ve likely turned into his own version of a great player in the NBA, for the Lakers, and Jim Buss. He had all the physical tools at an advanced age to say the least, being the youngest player in history drafted into the NBA at 17 year old and 249 days, beating Jermaine O’Neal by 12 days, and Kobe Bryant by 63. He came straight out of high school in 2005, having only beginning to play basketball at 15 years old. 2 Years later he was an NBA lottery pick, 10th overall, which further adds to why this home run swing by Jim Buss wasn’t exactly a fly ball to center field for an easy out. To get a future all star, which Bynum became in 2012 at 10, with only Danny Granger and David Lee selected after him who became at least all stars in the game, Bynum was the correct pick. What I liked most about Andrew Bynum was the lights didn’t seem too big for him. He had the personality and confidence that he could play on the NBA level, if he could only put everything together, from physically, mentally and allowing himself to be coached, he could be the future of the Lakers. But then things got weird to say the least after his all star 2011-12 season, including red loafers, red Ferraris, afros, blonde hair and bowling. He was never the same, playing 53 games since 2012, and flaming out the NBA in glorious fashion at just 26 years old. "He Just Had A BAD SKELETON" What Really Went Wrong With Andrew Bynum! Bynum helped the Lakers win 2 championships. He has two rings, so it's hard to really knock him too much. He was injury prone and had issues maintaining his playing weight, which contributed to his knee issues. He was a talented big man without a doubt.

It was the fist time I played anyone with that body type. His drop step was unstoppable and he had a beautiful hook from both hands. I’m 6’10 and he still dwarfed me. (1)
don't get me wrong - I love this series, but just like with "alternative history" - that the story of, for example, A. Bynum would turn out differently - there was never a chance for that
    (2)
even because of health restrictions I never he was not the material for what some saw in him, just as for mental reasons the same - that's why he considered all this material fantastic with one exception - this one sentence that I'm about to quote is completely wrong.
    (3)
"Jim Buss wasn't entirely wrong in his choice to select Andrew, or give him the Kobe treatment when Kobe was a rookie, because truthfully without the growth stunts we'll speak about today happening, Bynum would've likely turned into his own version of a great player in the NBA, for the Lakers, and Jim Buss.".
    NO NO NO.
    That was NEVER AN OPTION.
This is pure fantasy just like some crazy "alternative history stories like The Man From High Castle" with Germany defeating USA (Europe ok. but USA - i am sorry... never - i am saying that as european).
Never an option with Andrew Bynum.

As a Laker fan, I love this dude to death. I wish the Lakers wouldn’t have traded him, but I see why they did when I got older.

Look I knew bro from my basketball days …he wasn’t interested in playing ball he had a weird family, and a lot of emotional issues he wanted to be a weird rapper . His career was a random accident he got tall they exploited him at 16 ..so he really only played for 2 years before he went to the league …he was forced to do this and thats facts .

I mean you can say stunted growth for every injured player in sports ever. If the dude wasn't fitting in and being called weird, what was his big bro mentors reporting back? Isnt it their job to get the kid acclimated to the culture? The dude had 2 rings so it's not like he wasn't an asset. No one calls Dennis Rodman immature but everyone from his teams had a story of him being reckless. Injuries is a b**** and spending half the year rehabing your body is draining too. I think his story is deeper especially with the fact he was the last highschool kid lotto into the draft before they changed the rule

You could make a case that '08 Lakers possibly could've won close to 70 games and won a chip if he was healthy all year.

Here are just examples of how load management/ proper development and unfulfilled expectations clashed.
Bynum was talented but he was pushed to do too much too soon. Boogie, AD, Amare Stoudemire, D-Rose, Arenas, T-Mac, Dwight Howard, Brandon Roy and Roy Hibbert all struggled with getting healthy enough in that era and unfortunately the NBA at that time was a fast moving industry that didn’t want to wait on their star players to recover. Nowadays the league started to realize that burning out these athletes can harm your championship contention and it’s changed course since. Still too much load management and recovery can be detrimental like Kawhi in LA, Zion in NO or Ben Simmons in BK. Guys like AD however needed more time. It’s a tough business for the players, their bodies go through a lot of the demand and sometimes they can’t handle it even if they try to, so it’s hard on their organization too. Bynum would’ve aged out of the league anyway due to the 3pt. revolution, but his career was hard on him. Luckily for him, he was able to become a 2x champion in that short time. Some guys on the other hand never win, so it’s interesting how that happens.

To me Bynum was a dog. He did that for the lakeshow. He was hella young had hella weight on his shoulders. He was lifted at a very young age and they expected him to be the center to win us a chip. He did that. Two of them thangs too. We went to the ship three years in a row too lost to the Celtics. So imo he did a great job in the league.

Y'all want people to love the game as much as y'all do or much as y'all think these athletes should. That is the problem. These people made a fortune and got to experience something only a small percentage of people have been able to. Stunted growth goes to me and everybody else on here. We are the ones with these people on our minds meanwhile these people don't know us and will never know us and living there lives.
