What Happened To SHABAZZ NAPIER? The NEXT KEMBA! Stunted Growth

  • When Kemba Walker went on that unbelievable run to end his senior season and hall of honor career at UCONN, winning five games in five days in the big east tournament as the 9th seed coming in, claiming the title before performing even more magic in the NCAA tournament, winning 6 games in a row, capturing his 1st and only national championship, there was a freshman backup point guard named Shabazz Napier low key catching the eyes of many. I know for sure I was slowly becoming glued to his process, with high hopes because I had huge respect for his game. Never could there be a second coming of Walker, and never could that story play out almost identically impressive by the time Napier was ready to walk out the door after 4 years at UCONN. He led his team to the conference championship game like Walker, except they lost before heading into the NCAA tournament as the 7th seed, winning six games like Walker in the same cinderella fashion to take home the NCAA tournament championship, his second ring in 4 years. He was no question the best point guard in college that year and it wasn’t even close. When he got to the NBA, things went much different. What Happened To SHABAZZ NAPIER? The NEXT KEMBA! Stunted Growth

Still one of my all time favorite college point guards. Loved his game. On the right team early on, I believe he could've been an asset.

He was too cold. Goes to show that it isn't always about skill. The league isn't gonna always allow you to be the best version of yourself, especially if you're walking into a situation that has already achieved success BEFORE you. The NBA is one unforgiving business. If you don't capitalize on that initial opportunity (whether you're ready or not), you're just as good as gone.

Shabazz is living his best life in Italy. He gets paid and travel the world. Players overseas make good money, they receive free housing, a car, some receive personal chefs, and they don't pay an exboriate amount of taxes. Josh Childress who chose a euro league contract over the NBA wrote an article about the advantages of playing overseas. NBA players play 82 games, compared to maybe 40, they pay a manager, agent, bookkeeper, they have to pay taxes in every state they play in (except Texas). Now they have added paying penalties for flagrant fouls. If you don't have a huge contract, you could walk away from the NBA broke.
