  • Today’s feature is a player in 2005 that was considered on the same level as Chris Paul and Deron Williams leaving college, drafted right behind them both in the NBA draft lottery. Raymond Felton was always right there trailing those two, and for about 50 games with the Knicks 2010-11, he may have been right at that level. Doesn’t matter, because leaving high school a lot was expected of Felton. He was the Naismith Prep Player of the year, #1 rated point guard of his class, some even had him the third best recruit in the class, with the likes of Melo, Amare and Lenny Cooke. McDonald’s all American, you name it, Felton accomplished it up to that point and was heading to one a a high school player’s dreams schools North Carolina to feature as their point guard for the next 4 years, or whenever his skills reached NBA level. Fast forward Felton would eventually hit the league a college champion, matured point guard, and given an opportunity to lead a new, young franchise, with all the space in the world to be who he wanted to and compete wit the best at his position year after year, and hopefully at some point lead them to a playoff berth. Unfortunately he wasn’t on may great teams that made use of his complementary talent. Was Raymond Felton A BUST? 3 Reasons His Growth Was Stunted!

To me Raymond was solid. A good dude too, seems cool as a teammate. Young Felton was right there with the top point guards, but never really had a good team around him that he could run in his good years. The Knicks with he and Amare, before Melo, was a great situation and time for him, unfortunately it was New York and they needed that star power Melo would bring. Since he was traded, never was the same since. Not a Bust though.

2010-2011 Raymond Felton was a different breed. The chemistry he had playing with Amar'e in D'antoni's PG-friendly system was incredible to watch. Raymond was and is still beloved by Knicks fans (older ones). His conditioning was always a question, in that 2010 season he was in incredible shape, then when we picked him back up just 2 years later his body was different. Still, even in 2012 he always showed up when we needed him. I remember the Knicks playing in Miami w/o Melo and Amar'e and Ray BALLED, had a nasty crossover that game too. He was a smart, tough, hard-working player. A lot of fans were pissed when we signed Felton in 2012 because everyone was still caught up in Linsanity and wanting to bring Lin back, but bringing Felton back was 100% the right call.

Just had shit luck and a weight problem. I enjoyed watching Felton and Amar'e fighting to stay at .500 during that 1st year with the Knicks. We were getting competent Knicks basketball and I loved it. You could feel a good change was happening then they traded for Melo.
I loved Melo when he was on the Nuggets, but he killed the Knicks team (despite their record greatly improving and making the playoffs as far as the 2nd round) and stopped the development of other players. Most notably Landry Fields. Fields was playing SG and yet was getting 12 rebounds in a game consistently. I saw the potential Fields had. Then Melo arrives and the rebound fun was over.
