You asked: Will it dominate in this price segment? Chinese consumers answered: 15,000 monthly sales just 3 months into mass production of the Seal, even though Tesla has been forced to cut prices on the Model 3 to try to compensate. So yeah, I think it is fair to say that BYD will dominate this price segment.
@@Harrythehun Indeed sales of the BYD Seal are now down to around 6,000 units a month. No announcements yet. But BYD did announce bringing other vehicles in the Europe, so we can expect to see the BYD Seal at some point. Hopefully sooner than later.
Looks damn good, especially inside. Will be a game changer in Europe, if the taxes won't rise the price too much. Small boot, though. But How about real range?
I normally peg CLTC to be 70% of real world range. Ofc depending on driving environment. But the Seal was returning decent range for the battery usage if memory serves correct.
The boot is on the smaller side. but then again compact sedans aren’t known for massive boots. Add in the Frunk and the overall amount of storage is average.
Yes it is now. But at the time of recording it was uncertain what this was going to be called overseas. Even at this point it hadn't been decided if the BYD Dolphin was going to keep it's name or be called the Atto 2. All the foreign media were in agreement that Atto wasn't a great name.
Honestly, I don’t know, only drove and saw it in the daytime. Didn’t really inspect to see if the handles are illuminated. There are puddle lights I believe under the wing mirrors.
Love the humor and delivery. As you say the regen braking is weak compared to the model 3 and one pedal driving is not possible on the seal as from other reviewers, but when you come to a stop say at traffic lights, do you need to put your foot on the brake to keep the car at a standstill?
Is this compliant with the US federal safety standard? I don’t mind paying 5k to ship it over to the US(the quote I got from Alibaba seller to ship a sedan from China to the US). It would be doped if it can be titled and registered in the US
It will likely needs to be modified somewhat in order to meet the US standard. The design is basically more aligned with EU standard. The question is will US allow it to enter its market given the domestic political atmosphere.
Hopefully they will address their rust issues before they go on sale here in Aus. Otherwise they will be DOA compared to established brands like Tesla.
I'd rather have anything BYD than the offerings in us market. The Chinese are innovating in design and offerings and in business if you don't innovate you're dead. It's fair to say Tesla is likely not the automaker of the future and their diversifying into other markets is wise. Tesla was the benchmark before EVs became more popular and affordable. Now they are falling behind and not as iconic.
TM3 Prices have dropped again and now the seal will not have a price advantage. Tesla’s profit margins allow for price reductions. Let the pricing games begin. 2023 year of disruption within the EV industry. Similar to when Apple dropped prices on their “premium” phones. Great 😊 for consumers!
Tesla claims that they are coming up with a new model 3 for the mass market. Let see if they can compete with the Seal. The problem is Tesla price is always dynamic. As both BYD and Tesla are produce in China with own vertical supply chains, I see no reason why we are paying more for Tesla just because they are a branded car. Moreover, labor costs are standard in China. Still, if you can wait, go for solid state EV battery with longer range yet affordable and lightweight. Weight is important because in future perhaps countries may introduce weight-base tax. Presently, only Toyota had confirmed they will develop and invest in solid state battery for their future EV cars due to roll out in 2030 but by then they are a bit late because for sure BYD will also develop solid state battery ahead of them.
The vertical integration of BYD is absolutely insane. They make nearly everything themselves. It’s harder to find parts on their cars they didn’t make themselves. As for solid state batteries…they will be great…when they reach the mass market…
@@ChinaDriven The issue with Sodium cells is volumetric density. No good being light (not so far) cheap and powerful if they don't fit in the space available. . Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate is the next candidate. Energy density half way between straight LiFePo4 and Nickel based, at the same price as LiFePo4. . Then there's the CATL M3P cell (Ironic name since their main customer might be the Tesla MP3?) . And now of course BYD is talking about producing 4680 cells(!) Irony? Lithium Irony??
BYD EV competition which what we need in the electric car market the people who should worry I are BMW Audi Mercedes and Volkswagen but with the cost of EV's I would rather have a pickup because you can do more with it and they cost anymore to run The vehicle market has changed

Sure it’s 320L and not 420L boot size? Thanks
320L with the seats up. we don’t have an official figure for the seats down.
Looks sick mate
I gave you a like just for the Seal rendition**wait. But why do they have a mic lol
HAHAHA.
Chinese cars love to have KTV function. Kinda gimmicky but if its there I’m gunna “Sing”
The SEAL is the SEAL everywhere.
Yes it is now. But at the time of recording it was uncertain what this was going to be called overseas. Even at this point it hadn't been decided if the BYD Dolphin was going to keep it's name or be called the Atto 2.
All the foreign media were in agreement that Atto wasn't a great name.
@@ChinaDriven Any chance of you getting a CATL factory tour and a chat about the QILIN battery?
@@honesty_-no9he I don’t think so. But from my experience in other car factories. Filming is a big no no inside.
Are the door handles illuminated?
Honestly, I don’t know, only drove and saw it in the daytime. Didn’t really inspect to see if the handles are illuminated. There are puddle lights I believe under the wing mirrors.
Love the humor and delivery. As you say the regen braking is weak compared to the model 3 and one pedal driving is not possible on the seal as from other reviewers, but when you come to a stop say at traffic lights, do you need to put your foot on the brake to keep the car at a standstill?
has Autohold. requires you to depress the pedal once you come to a stop.
Looks very nice.
Simply #OneOfTheBeautifulCar
and now BYD Yangwang U8 comes out!! 😅of course will Tesla worry.
beautiful looking car! Nice review!
Thanks!
How about the safety of passengers and this will be
Safe charging overheat proof? Or will not explode when crash.?
Good
will definitely take a bite out of Tesla.
Looks really nice - 🎉🎉🎉🎉
It was!
Great Looking
Do sills have gills?
…this one does.
And yes my accent Sill and Seal sound very similar if not the same :elbowcough:
It's prettier than the Tesla, that's for sure
Thank you 👍👍👍
Thank you too
I heard that there's going to be a sodium Ion version?
Conflicting reports. Last I heard there were rumours BYD was making sodium ion batteries. But BYD did deny this. But who knows.
how much did byd paid u?
Absolutely nothing. It’s just really good.
great review
Hopefully they will address their rust issues before they go on sale here in Aus. Otherwise they will be DOA compared to established brands like Tesla.
I'd rather have anything BYD than the offerings in us market. The Chinese are innovating in design and offerings and in business if you don't innovate you're dead. It's fair to say Tesla is likely not the automaker of the future and their diversifying into other markets is wise. Tesla was the benchmark before EVs became more popular and affordable. Now they are falling behind and not as iconic.
Chinese market is very diverse. There are EVs at every price point. The market is much more diverse and competitive vs the EU and USA
Next wave for “cheaper” batteries after LFP seems to be Sodium based batteries.
@@ChinaDriven
The issue with Sodium cells is volumetric density.
No good being light (not so far) cheap and powerful if they don't fit in the space available.
.
Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate is the next candidate. Energy density half way between straight LiFePo4 and Nickel based, at the same price as LiFePo4.
.
Then there's the CATL M3P cell (Ironic name since their main customer might be the Tesla MP3?)
.
And now of course BYD is talking about producing 4680 cells(!)
Irony?
Lithium Irony??
BYD Please make a GTS version, I want this to be a Taycan Killer!
比亚迪昨天发布了旗下高端品牌 仰望 U9超级跑车 0-100km 3秒以内
BYD EV competition which what we need in the electric car market the people who should worry I are BMW Audi Mercedes and Volkswagen but with the cost of EV's I would rather have a pickup because you can do more with it and they cost anymore to run The vehicle market has changed
It looks like the Pontiac version of the model 3.
Really feel like Tesla and Porsche are winning the styling game atm. Not saying it's bad or that I wouldn't buy one.
i want that 1
Why can't I buy a car like this one BYD EV in The US.
rims are super nice...
Is it me or are you sat really close to the steering wheel?!
haha yeah you noticed that haha. I accidentally hit the memory seat setting just before recording the speaking A-roll at a traffic light just as it turned green. hahahahhaha
I am waiting for the BYD TRex
Looks like a Tesla. Great specs and cheaper. Software capabilities? No one knows if it's comparable to Tesla or it's junk like European EVs.
It’s ADAS called Di-pilot currently is just LKA & ACC. But supposedly they are working behind the scenes to improve the ADAS suite. Up until now BYD has focused on battery and platform tech and keeping prices low for the range
All about this and that but why your seating position is wayyyy to close to steering. Can’t help but notice that. 😅😅😅
yes thanks for pointing that out hahah!
the interior driving shots were recorded a different day. we had limited time rushing.
I had adjusted the seat at a red light. and messed it up basically the editor decided these were the best takes.
@@ChinaDriven hahah okay totally understandable. Thanks for clarification. But cool review nevertheless. Makes me wanna get one! Only ATTO3 and Dolphin entered our market for now. Seal next! 😍
