Yes!!!! I was determined to not gain during menopause several years back. After keeping up with exercise and having what I thought a healthy diet I wrote everything down for a couple weeks realizing I needed to make changes and swaps. After two years I’ve lost over 30 pounds on my 5”1” frame and feel awesome. I also do a 3 day a week dumbbell work out 30 minutes, nothing too strenuous from a person on UA-cam along with walking my dog most days. Drinking lots of water is key as well. One meal on the weekend my husband and I pick one fun meal like a burger, or one serving of pasta, Chinese, whatever we choose then a small ice cream cone then go right back on our healthy way of eating the rest of the week.
@@happiest_christina After looking at my meals over the years, I took out the processed stuff. We now bake or grill boneless skinless chicken breast each week, put dry rub on it. We eat veggies with it like broccoli, riced cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, green beans, or sometimes a green salad. Other times we’ll make stir fry’s with the same cooked chicken with low sodium soy sauce, delicious! We also eat chicken sausage occasionally or I’ll make a ground chicken meatloaf. I also make salmon or cod once a week, baking or grilling it, yummy! Sometimes I make brown rice and beans with salsa or a soup once a week if I have the time. It could be a bean soup, a chicken soup or any other low calorie but high fiber type soup. We eat one or two fruits day like an apple or blueberries. We also hard boil eggs ahead of time to eat as a quick snack, have plain almonds 1/4 cup portioned out as snacks, but eat the almonds sparingly. I have dark chocolate here and there because I love my chocolate! A little goes a long way and I find if I don’t have it I’ll not be a happy person, haha We also eat non fat Greek yogurt with or without fruit or sometimes with plain oatmeal with some almond milk and cinnamon. On weekends we go out and have one fun meal of our choosing. It can be Indian, a burger etc. then we pick one small dessert like one cookie at a bakery or a small cone somewhere. After that, we go back to our prepped and planned meals. Hope this helps!
Pei/Menopause can be preparation for THE BEST time of our life, if we take the right action. That does not mean it will all be smooth sailing, because it still is a vulnerable time of our life, but we have all the tools and knowledge to come out the other side THRIVING, without HRT too. At 50, I am excited about creating my best life here on. Thank you Dr Mosconi for your wonderful teachings
Since I was a Young Adult I benefited from older friends who helped me improve the food I eat. I have eaten a mainly plant based diet with healthy oily fish, legumes, nuts, seeds, and fruit. I am a natural dancer and cyclist and exercised daily as well. My perimenopause/ menopause started when I was forty-four and it has lowered my quality of life with how it reduced my health. Diet is not the Cure-all for each of us. I hope to learn something I have not heard elsewhere when I listen to the full podcast. Still, Thanks for the podcast x!

Steve!!! This is amazing content. Not well understood and definitely not talked about enough. Well done! It would be interesting to further consider the economic impacts (to businesses, families, and organizations as a whole)
Thank you Lisa Mosconi for all you do for us women! How old are you may I ask? Just curious when menopause starts for most women? And what you would share about yourself personal experience. Of course its your choice! ❤
What should women who live in areas like Greenland or Alaska, remote northern Russia, Faroe Island, Finland or Scotland to eat … places far from the Mediterranean …
For fresh produce, there are local varieties that are suited to grow in those regions. Kale, can grow all winter in some regions, especially in a poly tunnel or green house, for example. It would be hardest to get fresh produce in very cold regions in the winter. But in the warmer months, even these cold places can grow standard vegetables, but cold adapted varieties. And many even remote places still get imported foods during the winter. Also, Mediterranean foods include shelf stable foods like legumes, nuts, seeds, grains.
@@mariabyrne1954 There are so many ways to enjoy vegetables other than salads! Steamed with rice in a build your own bowl with sauces, roasted squash stuffed with a savory blend of quinoa, kale, nuts, and apple, soups and stews, roasted veggies served with spicy chickpeas or lentils, curries, etc.
Someone please explain why I would WANT to delay menopause? I have been in Perimenopause for years and it has been pure torture. I can't imagine why I would want to delay menopause, I really just want to get it over with 💁♀️
A Mediterranean diet plus 2 tbs of good quality our organic olive oil is excellent at maintaining a healthy body and preventing dementia. Thank you for this excellent video.
while i understand her point that cholesterol in diet does not equal cholesterol in the brain on a biochemical level, the brain def needs saturated and polysaturated fats to function well . there are many studies on this. the keto diet was designed to help people with neurological disorders.
3-6 grams/daily Omega 3s is a lot! I don't doubt the findings of the research, but that's nearly 5 capsules of the densest fish oil supplement capsules (Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega X ). that would be really expensive to keep up, even if you're just getting it from food source. I wonder if she means the size of the capsule? When I demo'ed for Nordic bk in the day, customers often confused the amount of omega-3 fatty acids found in the pill with the actual volume of the pill itself (with the binders/fillers/additional supplements and what not).... wonder if thats the case with what she said. Anybody out there know?
so why all those italian nonna's look 80 at their 60ties??? (Bellucci is the only exeption), maybethe nonna's eat too much sugar, Italian women look much older than women on the north
I live in FL, and it can be purchased at Trader Joe’s, Walgreens, and a few of the vitamin shops. It is very expensive - - $ 30 or more for 32oz depending on the brand.
Confess the Lord Jesus Christ with your mouth and believe in your heart that He died for your sins on the cross and God raised Him from the dead on the third day; repent of your sins and be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit!
Why on earth do you want to DELAY menopause???? Let it rip and get it over with! What is this obsession with making monthly bleeding last into years that you should enjoy being free of it!!!! Get over yourself!
It's not about wanting to bleed, it's about the hormonal changes after menopause that cause different organs to deteriorate and make you grow a moustache.
Humans have been eating vegetables our entire existence on this planet. Every culture knows vegetables are good for you. There are soooo many phyto-chemicals in veggies that they are discovering are beneficial for your gut health, your brain, eyes, skin, ect. Do you know that a wolf's diet can be up to 40% berries in the spring? You're not more of a carnivore than a wolf. Eat your veggies.

She advises a Mediterranean diet: heavy on legumes, fruit, vegetables, omega 3 fatty acids. Antioxidant rich foods like leafy greens and berries.
💗
that's not what they eat in the Mediterranean there is not 'Med' diet it's made up. But that's a healthy diet anyway.
Thank you!
Interesting that she doesn’t recommend plain red meat or red meat with salt and butter.
Indian food is similar

Did she have any babies after 47?
