I watched this entire video waiting for information about ozempic from Dr. Fung. I didn’t hear any “brutally honest” opinions on ozempic, or much, for that matter, about ozempic at all. I always appreciate listening to Dr. Fung. I don’t appreciate clickbait captions that draw me in and waste my time.
I’m sorry this drug was made for diabetics. To help with their sugar levels. It’s insulin! I’m sorry there has to be a side effect for people taking it to lose weight!
Ozempic is for diabetics. Now people are taking it to lose weight. People who are diabetic can even find their insulin of Ozempic because of people taking it as a fast result of losing weight it’s ridiculous.

What I object to is the practice among so many UA-camrs of trying to create sensational captions that don’t deliver on what they promise, created merely to generate as many views as they can. I certainly understand what content creators are trying to do, but in this instance, Dr. Fung gave a generic description of Ozempic and how it words that I can google in 1 min. What those of us who know him hoped for, I think, (and the reason I watched) was because I thought he would discuss how Ozempic compares to other strategies, or possible downsides (or upsides) for Ozempic over other strategies-or some sort of information that I can’t find everywhere else.. Ozempic is not prescribed for weight loss (or at least it is not supposed to be), but only for those with Type 2 diabetes…I was expecting to hear more beyond a description of how it works that I can read somewhere else, from one of the world’s experts on fasting. The caption implied that we were going to hear something earth-shattering.
I was a preteen/teen in the 70’s. We ate cookies , bread and jam, drank pop etc. We did not eat ALL the time. When we did eat, after, we went outside and played for hours until dinner. We didn’t eat in between meals. Eating out was a treat. Maybe twice a year. We ate real sugar, not fake. Almost everyone was thin. So thin ,that people now would think we were too thin. Our mother’s cooked for us. It’s not rocket science.
My brother in law developed severe, chronic pancreatitis and diarrhea after taking Ozempic for a short time - all to lose 20 pounds - and now he literally can't eat anything without getting terribly sick. Needless to say, he'd rather be fat! Beware!!!
I agree I got gallbladder psi it took me two weeks together painting go away. Went off Ozempic right away and now feel fine. They put these meds on the marketwaytoofast without proper and thorough testing. When I was on it my appetite got less and less. I was just not interested in food and got full after a few bites. All I managed to accomplish is make myself sick. And theyraisedtheprice Fromm $45 to$200+ in the two months I was on it. I am on Medicare and just turned 73. I do have diabetes but itis onder control. There has to be abetted solution and/ or more testing on this product. Now I ❤ method with an 8hourwindowinwhich I can eat. We will see how that works. I’m just sharing my experience, I’m not an expert. I grew up with food uncertainty and my mom had an eating disorder. My views of food were warped. I’d go from eating as much as I could to starving for days on end. Every food choice I made was to avoid weight gain. And what’s really freaky is that I wasn’t completely unlike my friends. We all “splurged” and had to “be good.” But as an adult I just got sick of the mental and emotional toll. So I decided I would eat 3 meals per day, no snacks, no skipping meals. I did a spreadsheet of a bunch of meal combos and realized that if I stuck to the recipes I had outlined, it was impossible to exceed my calories. This has been a life saver. When I was so up or down w food I thought I must have something wrong w me. Addiction or something medical. But it’s all evened out. Every once in a while, I’ll get the thought like “oh that was so good, have another plate and skip the next meal” but I follow my one rule: 3 meals, no more no less, and those thoughts go away and hardly ever come anymore. It’s been healing tbh. I think a real problem for a lot of us is that food is marketed like a product, always advertising so we’ll buy more but we also objectify our bodies and this combo creates a living hell. Now I see food is my fuel and my body is my vehicle for life. For what it’s worth, this is how I’ve found peace. ❤️
I started Ozempic and lost 30 pounds in like 2.5 months then my insurance stopped covering it but allowed me to go on Victoza which is liraglutide another GLP1 and I’ve lost another 25 pounds. The weight does shed quite quickly and easily. I feel so much lighter and have more energy because of it. I used to dread having to bend over and pick things up because I was out of shape. Now I bend like nothing I’m so much happier with life than ever before 🙂
I grew up in the sixties and seventies. Foods were sweetened with sugar back then. When food and beverage companies started replacing sugar with corn syrup (a cheap filler/ preservative) and also adding seed oils, people became huge and started getting fatty liver and diabetes at higher rates. Sugar is metabolized by every cell in your body. Corn syrup is only metabolized in your liver.
This is true. It is so annoying that the government thinks they are going to make us healthier by limiting our sugar intake. The unintended consequence of that was companies just started substituting, high fructose corn syrup for sugar. They made it worse, not better.

Thank you Dr. Fung. I was 310 pds for the last 5 years with hip arthritis for the last 2 years. Fasted lost inches but never saw weight loss on scale. My physician was not really interested in helping me lose weight. After weeks of crying and beating myself up. I changed medical plans and went to a wonderful hospital new physician and Ortho doctor. They worked together to assist me in getting a hip replacement and losing weight. I was advised that I was obese and I qualified for the med Ozempic and I was put on it. Congratulations on your success! My doc said my weight is fine, which was 170 at 5’2”. That’s not okay!!! IMO they want us too heavy so we’ll buy more pills. I recently started eating carnivore and in just a few days the arthritis in my back went from a pain level of 8 to 3 and 4. I’m hoping it will improve further.

It's scary to thnk (based on your name) that a female is being told 170 is fine. This is a big issue with the world. Dr. Jason Fung is straightforward and doesn't try to make money by pushing products or diets on you. Even if a drug goes against what he's been promoting as a simple solution to obesity, he still tells you the truth. That's not like a lot of other well-known keto or carnivore diet promoters who just spread nonsense and scare tactics. I really respect him for that.
I’m post menopause. I started eating MORE real food and exercising at least 1 to 6 days a week… I lost 40 pounds basically by not dieting and doing fun things and not stressing about it..
no woman is post menopause, once we stop having periods completely, we are IN MENOPAUSE for the rest of our life. it is the last stage of life before we die. Now, I am thrilled you are doing so well. Nothing worked for me until I went on Hormone replacement. When you are so deficient in estrogen and progesterone, you become insulin resistant. the hormones fix all that. but yes, exercise, like walking, cycling, swimming, or whatever you enjoy. you hit the nail on the head. stress causes bad things. we must enjoy our life and not stress or stress eat or over exercise as that also causes stress!

I have been eating only one meal daily for as long as I can remember. I weigh 20 more pounds today than when I was 18 in the seventies. I have always tried to avoid overly processed food; if I do eat junk food, it's only in small amounts. We just finished planting the last of our four vegetable gardens today, gardens we never use pesticides or herbicides on. I live in a small city, and our front yard is not grass, it's a vegetable garden.
My morbid obesity had very little to do with hunger. I was addicted to eating, to the food, to the satisfying feel for the few minutes before the horrid over-stuffed feeling. I was a mess. I don’t understand all of the emotional reasons, perhaps, but it was as heart wrenching pain in every way. I’m just a few pounds away from a “healthy” weight now. I’m eating high-fat keto. The excess skin is shrinking- it’s my own personal miracle than can be replicated by others. Dr Jason Fung and others spreading the good news is wonderful. After over 30 years in and out of Overeaters Anonymous, I learned not to rely on fads, shots, pills and other outside “cures”. Anything can help for a season, and then we deal with the damage of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual selves. After all of that I had no real answers to stopping the addiction… until now.
I do think it’s a personal choice. My dad has diabetes and still eats processed carbs and sugar (he lost his left arm in a car accident due to a diabetic blackout). My brother(overweight and smoked) and mom (who classifies as obese) have high blood pressure (bro had a stroke that left his left side paralyzed at 39). My parents still smoke. They don’t exercise and they eat whatever they want and are on meds. I was raised by them, we live 5 minutes apart. Environment is not the problem. I still exercise everyday and avoid fried food, avoid sugar, don’t smoke, cut back heavily on alcohol, not on meds. I pack my lunches and snacks to have healthy foods outside of the house so I don’t depend on takeout/ fast food. I chose to educate myself and avoid unhealthy environments and influences. If I chose to let my environment control me, I would be like my family🤷🏻♀️ I had to undo so many bad habits I inherited and train the good ones I created.

Good for you for choosing to educate yourself and to start this lifelong journey. There are so many good channels here, for exercise I love “Madfit” and “Boho Yoga”. I also walk 3 miles everyday which takes less than 1 hour. For food I love “Spain on a Fork” and “ Mediterranean Minutes”. I’m also married to someone who exercises regularly and eats a healthy diet which makes it that much easier for me. Keep up the good work, you won’t regret choosing a healthy lifestyle.
From what you have described, that sounds like your environment. You don't inherit bad food habits you observe and pick them up consciously and unconsciously. Good on you for breaking those bad habits.

25 yrs ago, when I moved to USA, I gained a lot of weight. It’s not that I suddenly ate more here, it was the quality of the food, that I had no idea it might be different. Same problem with all my friends who moved here and even family members that just visited for few weeks, we all got bigger. In my country we simply didn’t have access to processed food, but also we didn’t have obese people. Of course it changed now
You are so right! Over processed food is is not only high in calories but also very low in nutrients. A lack of nutrients can increase starvation hormones which slow metabolism. It’s essential to take a good supplement
One time during a Cruise trip, I gained 12 pounds in 6 days.. and I did gym, walks, swimming, and all the activities on and out a board.. and I didn't drink soda nor beer.. I simply didn't understand what happened to my body. The same thing occurred during my 3 day trip to Las Vegas. Maybe I don't bear all-inclusive at all. It takes me 3 months to lose overweight that I gained in 3 days😂
It's carbs too, I gained fat and lost fat very slowly because I eat carbs. I am an athlete. I only gained fat because I had an injury. I did not eat processed foods when I was injured. You should never eat that crap anyway.
The one thing that finally worked for me is time-restricted feeding. Pretty much every day I don’t eat breakfast and will have my first meal around noon (+ or - 1 hour). I usually have my second meal around 5 or 6 pm. This gives me a 16-18 hr fast every day. I highly recommend Dr. Fung’s book, The Obesity Code. It has made a impact on my life.
Yes, intermittent fasting. It also provides a ton of other health befits such as lowering cholesterol and blood sugar. My doctor recommended this (and I’m not even overweight, but she was concerned about signs of pre-diabetes).

Yes--my husband happened to pick up Dr. Fung's "Obesity Code" at a little free library when he was dropping off some of our books there. I started to read it, but to be honest hadn't expected much. But his section on intermittent fasting was inspiring. Six months ago I decided to try fasting every other day--since then I've lost over 75 lbs, while *gaining* muscle! This has been a real game changer for me!
It’s so crazy to me how many of us will just take a drug to solve a problem with NO concerns at all about the consequences of using pharmaceuticals. There is a cost to your body. You can’t just alter our natural bodily processes without a price.
Not just that but surely so many people now just 'cheating' creates a very different paradigm mentally. And also for their kids. Why actually look after yourself when you can just take pills and medicate. I absolutely love Dr. Fung! The way he can explain all of this so everyone can understand! He has helped so many people, me being one of them. Totally reversed my type 2 diabetes. I was on 2 types of insulin and metformin. March 1, 2022 I stopped taking all those meds and did intermittent fasting with low carb lifestyle and watched as my blood sugar dropped. My A1C today is 6.5.👍💜

I have reduced my A1C to 6.6 and am still working on getting it down to 6. Did you stop your meds once your A1C came down to 6.5? I am really, really looking forward to coming off all diabetic medicine, but I'm not sure when that ought to happen. My doctor has not suggested that I'm close to that yet. Diane in NC
@@jimmiepatrum Hi! If you are intermittent fasting and eating low carb, I believe you can come off your meds for diabetes. The day I started this, I stopped taking all my meds-metformin and 2 types of insulin. And kept close track of my blood sugar, watching it fall. Today my A1C is 6.4. Plus I am no longer eating low low carb, when I started I stayed at 18 carbs per day for 8 straight months and then slowly started incorporating more carbs. Today I’m mindful what I eat, but not on a strict number of carbs. My diabetes doctor didn’t believe me and said to me”But you need SOME insulin “ and I said no, look at my numbers. He has never had a patient do this but I believe we MUST be proactive for ourselves. I am thankful for doctors, do not misunderstand me, but we know our bodies best. Try it and see, keeping a close eye on your daily blood sugar and keeping the carbs low. You will be pleasantly surprised.
As a kid in the 70s we had McDonalds or fast food maybe once every 5 months as a special treat. Otherwise we ate 3 meals a day with a snack being fruit or a cookie that Mum made. We played with our friends making up our own games and never came in until it was dinner. Our parents always knew where we were and everyone watched out for each other. Any fights were settled between us kids and rarely was a parent involved or even knew about it. Today kids are used to being offended by the smallest things! You can't have a birthday party without inviting the entire class for fear of someone's feelings being hurt. Not everything is bad today ... it is like anything. Moderation! Too many parents are giving their kids the control and sending the message that they are just there to basically serve their kids every need. All my parents had to do was give me the "look" and I instantly knew to stop or I would not get to watch TV or play outside with friends. No negotiations! No actually meant NO. Okay I am done ranting. ✌

You're describing exactly what everyone's childhood was like until maybe the 80s. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and that was it. There were almost zero fat people. Those who were fat were considered to have let themselves go and to have a serious problem. True obesity was extremely rare! Housework was also much more strenuous than it is now, and most women stayed home to keep up with all the work involved and were raising kids, cooking real meals. It was very possible to live on one income, even a "blue collar" income was plenty.
Even in the 90s in Ireland it was like this. I can distinctly remember only going to Burger King or McDonald's on St. Patrick's day or another rare occasion 😂 Tea in a flask and some sandwiches otherwise. It's actually made me think I need to start doing this again as an adult 🤯

@@donwinstonThats not true. Fasting reduces insulin. Fasting does an extremely important function called autophagy. This scavenges damaged cells and such. Constantly eating eliminates this important function. Autophagy is what is responsible for shrinking excess skin after weight loss. Many think that it can prevent cancer and other maladies. It also affects calorie burning.

If you make up for the calories lost during fasting you will wipe out all of your autophagy gains. Fasting causes people to LOSE MUSCLE. It encourages binging and yoyo dieting. It also can be dangerous for people prone to low blood sugar levels. No reputable health authority or health professional in the world will recommend it.
Obesity is part of an eating disorder. Also I struggle with PTSD. Taking care of my mental has been causing weight loss naturally. Dealing with childhood trauma through therapy, weight keeps dropping. Wish I could post pics. Even physical exercise has been coming naturally

The worst part of obesity is the stigma and the way I have been treated as less than other smaller sized humans. Like, thanks a lot. Surround yourself with positive people. I know some very successful people that are obese but highly respected. Our body is just what carries around what's inside. The nay Sayers are doing you a favor. They're letting you know to not let them into your circle of positive people.
I think there is more to this than they are addressing. I find that when I eat or drink anything sweet, the sugar kills my appetite. So if I drink a soda, and I've never been able to drink huge amounts at one time, the sugar I've consumed actually kills my appetite for quite a long time. My experience in being overweight usually has nothing to do with actual physical hunger. I eat when I am not hungry. I eat to satisfy some emotional issues. I eat for comfort, I eat because I'm sad, etc. And I don't believe I'm unique in this regard.
Cutting out added sugar from my diet (whole fruit is fine because it also contains fiber) has helped me to control my hunger and to lower my weight. I no longer have huge blood sugar swings that used to make me get hangry and shake. Now I’m at the point I can not eat for 20 hours and I have no issues with hunger (I usually still eat after 18 to enjoy eating with family and friends). I just focus on no added sugar and Whole Foods and I don’t get hangry anymore. My experience is what Dr. Fung is describing, the soda made me hungry and thirsty. But I didn’t realize it until I cut it out of my diet completely. Took about two weeks before I noticed the difference. Just another perspective.
@@vidalamadi852what sugar actually does is kill your appetite for Whole Foods. Those of us who eat a sugary diet can attest to the fact that we don’t have a huge appetite and we don’t eat a crazy amount of calories. But the problem with us is that the food we do eat spikes our insulin and keeps it circulating in our bodies. And as Dr Fung says….you cannot burn fat in the presence of insulin.
I'm not doubting you, whimsy, but you should know that eating sugar *decreasing* appetite is increadibly rare. For most people eating sugar and other sweeteners *increases* their appetite, as well as its being empty calories in itself.
I have a slightly different perspective. I think that the obesity crisis is caused by malnutrition. People overeat because they are hungry. They aren't eating enough proteins and fats. It is difficult to see this malnutrition, because we don't see overweight people as starving. So yes we have starving people out there. It may be easy to go to a fast food place and eat their food, but this food is nutrient deficient. We have easy access to food that is toxic and doesn't nourish you.

People close to me have landed in the hospital due to Ozempic use. Because they weren’t eating, they became deficient in multiple things the body needs to function properly. One of them is on a critical care unit. A nurse I was talking to said she has seen the issues increasing. I am sad this is where we are in society today. 😞

I was convinced for years I couldn't lose weight unless I had surgery or diet pills. I was sort of guided into this idea that obesity is a condition that can't be fixed with healthy habits, I'm not sure where that started but it had to be early 2010s. Two years ago I decided to lose weight the classic way. I've lost 90lbs by myself, no meds, no injections, no surgery. Just reducing calories. No exercise, even. I have 15lbs to go. I still eat fast food. I just eat less. I still eat cookies and sweets, just less. I don't even track calories. I just reduced portions and sizes. It actually works.
@@AndressChilds I didn't really count calories, only visibly reduced portion sizes. Or, I'd eat one of an item instead of two. I would say I'd keep calories between 1500 to 1800 nut sometimes over that. I am currently at 100lbs lost as of today!
Some people eat out of boredom or other psychological issues like low self esteem. Then there is a third one, that hit me smack dab in the face recently, things like hypothyroidism. About 6 years ago, I discovered I had genetic hypothyroidism. Finally got it diagnosed and my meds at proper levels 4 years ago. Dropped 160lbs virtually overnight, no dieting, no special exercising. Turns out my weight issues were not entirely my fault or within my control.

@@soniapadilla9880 Hi Sonia, I watched his old videos from 11 years ago onwards until I understood that my eating habits of eating too many hours in the day versus the calories I consumed was making me fat. I just followed his advice, stop alcohol, keep eating to 18 or less hours, when you break the fast, start with a good protein or healthy fat like an avocado and then a boiled egg, don't add milk to your coffee. I swapped out soda for iced tea, earl grey and green tea throughout the day, just refilling my large water glass when it was empty - amazing how much tea is leftover. And slowly, about 2 pounds a month, I lost weight.

Ozempic uses the same injector pens used by Novo Nordisk in their actual life saving type 1 diabetes insulin. Because of all the hype around Ozempic it has caused real supply problems (at least in the UK) for actual medicine. We couldn't get insulin for 4 weeks from our pharmacy back in November. The only thing we could do was call 111 and find a hospital that still had some. Absolutely ridiculous that hype around a weight loss drug (also used for T2 diabetes) means that people who actually need insulin injected to survive can't get their medicine.

On June 6, 2023 I weighed 340 pounds. Today, 7.5 months later, I weigh 271. Ozempic literally saved my life. As reported by other commenters, I ate frequently and I never stopped when I was full. I stopped when I was stuffed, and ate again as soon as I could. I could devour a pound of pot roast while dishing up my family's meal. I overate everything from Doritos to broccoli, ice cream to pears, salad, donuts, scrambled eggs, spaghetti, pork chops, potatoes, asparagus, olives...well, you get the drift. Here's the thing, though. Ozempic wouldn't have kept me from overeating if I didn't retool my entire relationship with food. Seriously, I had to do the work, even when I felt chemically satiated. Why? Because I'm an emotional overeater. I self-medicate with food. Someday I'll no longer be taking Ozempic and I'll need an ingrained system of new habits - physical, social, behavioral - in order to make the adjustment. I'm now working on building muscle and stamina, eating well and carefully, strengthening my social network, and learning how to manouver through a world that, up until recently, has been too frightening for me to engage with. All my obese peeps hear me on this, I'm sure - "Will I fit in the restaurant booth?", "Will the people I'm meeting think awful things about my size?", "Will I break the antique dining chair in my friend's house?", "How will I make myself small enough not to touch arms with the person in the next seat at the movies?" It goes on and on. The moral of this story is that Ozempic doesn't fail, it's just a chemical tool, but people do fail if they don't understand that it's simply a tool. It's up to us to build a house that will stand after the tools have been packed up and taken away.
Let’s be honest, you over eat on mainly processed foods and carbs , not protein. So your going to be on Ozempic your whole life? At some point your going to have to get your diet under control without it
@@kcz81582 Good lord, no! All things being equal, I'll start transitioning off Ozempic around December. My goal is to be sustainably lean and healthy and off Ozempic by this time next year, or sooner. But who knows? Man plans and God laughs. This isn't my first weight-loss rodeo and I've always ended up in the dirt, broken and recidivistic, every time before. But I'm old now, and my time is short. I want to be able to chase my grandkids around the yard and be generally active until my number gets punched. The idea of spending years in painful, defeated inactivity is horrifying. What I'm banking on is that I'll be more addicted to my new life than I was to compulsive eating. Sugary processed carbs set up a feedback loop in my brain whereby the more I eat, the more I want. A pound of pot roast is over 1300 calories, but it also shuts down hunger, which is why keto eaters don't count calories. I agree that eating keto creates a biochemical environment that results in weight loss and a healthier metabolism for most people. My problem was that I'll eat the pot roast and continue to eat the junk food. I ate from compulsion, not actual hunger. Starbucks frappuccinos, bags of Takis, and drive through burgers are obvious foods (and I use that term loosely) that everyone should avoid. But avoiding the poison is only the first step. At the grocery store, dedicate yourself to real, whole, minimally processed choices whether you eat keto, carnivore, plant-based, vegan, or whatever. Ozempic isn't magic, it's not a panacea, but it shuts down the food noise in my head and dampens my compulsions. It makes weight loss easier, but, I still have to do the work myself.

That is an interesting thought, however it's more due to the addictive quality of sugar, vegetable seed oils and wheat-flour, the major components of junk foods; they're the ingredients in plentiful use and chemical additives are the other. Look at the advertising, thousands of products and the irrational belief in eating snacks to maintain blood sugar for energy. Our bodies were equipped to eat and fast, eat and fast, humans developed this way over thousands of generations. Now we are hormonally out of balance and this is due to the constant constant eating resulting in the relentless elevation of the storage hormone insulin. Society has been lied to and the manufacturers of these poisonous junk foods are the only entities to profit. Eating whole foods as our progenitors did is the answer.
The added sugars in foods that have no business having them is huge in the addiction to modern processed food. After being in ketosis for a few weeks it is wild how your palette regains its sensitivity. Commercially made white bread toast is sweet like cake! Making bread and buns at home is one of my small steps to break up with the food industry.
This is why grass fed is encouraged over corn because its also never just corn, its the fattening stuff. Women are told that the fattening agent in the cow feed has xeno estrogen which, yes, affects how we gain. Remember estrogen is a cell proliferater so can cause our fat cells to multiply faster.
Several gastroenterologists looked at my upper gi, it was a mess, and mentioned ozempic. Sure enough I injected a half dose for 2 months. Felt exhausted and just off. Lost a bit of weight, gained more when I stopped. Have used exercise and moderation with food, finally losing again. Beware if you have or are prone to esophageal problems or acid reflux.
My understanding of it is that because these drugs slow digestion, they often exacerbate reflux. Acid reflux causes esophageal damage and can contribute to esophageal and laryngeal cancers, among other problems.@@bevharo3750
Mine was becoming a mess. Am now on the PROPER medications which have eradicated all stomach problems. OZEMPIC causes me ZERO problems except I have unfortunately lost a few WANTED AND MUCH NEEDED pounds. And yes, I am a type 2 diabetic. Ozempic is a God send as it is helping me stay away from INSULIN.
Best way I’ve noticed to feel full is to make a 5 min brake halfway true the meal. After that you feel full.I eat half the amount this way then I would eat if eting fast and no break.

You're allowing your leptin to increase. GLP-1 agonists do the exact same thing when they suppress glucagon and drive insulin and leptin. Difference is that you're doing it naturally and appropriately.

I contracted pancréatitis after 7 months on ozempic . Ozempic reduced my hbac1 and I lost 24kg because I was always sick from it. Intestine and stomach pains , big digestion problems and so tired . I never had any problems of digestion or pancreas before . Today everyhing is fortunately back to normal having stopped ozempic which is not always the case . In france Ozempic is prescribed a lot by specialists but in case of problems, nobody's wants to know. I'm very shocked .

You can still get hungry on intermittent. So they use things like caffeine, sparkling water, and other devices. You can't just tell someone who is dealing with overwhelming hunger, 'Oh just don't eat during the day.'
I see so many people come in the ER with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation and some have pancreatitis. This crap just slows your intestines to a turtle pace but in some cases it can completely shut it down and then you really have problems. Long term effects are going to be bad for these people.
Glad u mentioned this. People often overlook the side effects because they like the benefit. Big pharma meds ALWAYS have serious side effects regardless how great the initial results. Remember when Fen Fen came out and everyone was losing weight? It was the new diet craze. Years later a class action lawsuit emerged because patients were having serious diseases years after taking it.
GLP-1s were FDA approved for type 2 diabetics since 2005. It’s been used off-label for weight loss for 15+years, and more recently FDA approved for weight loss. Are there risks? Yes. People need to be medically pre-screened, as certain conditions make GLP-1s inappropriate/risky for some patients. And, the medication needs to be properly dosed, with ongoing monitoring of things like thyroid levels. Used properly, GLP-1s have a safe “track record” & the risks are known. If you ignore your risk factors, improperly use the drug, and don’t monitor relevant blood results, bad things can happen with many drugs.
How do you get all your nutrients? I couldn't get all my reccommended daily intake of calcium, vitamins, protien, fibre etc in one meal. And I like eating. I'm also on the lowest end of reccommended weight, so that's all good.
@@jenA9026 I eat a lot 😳 during that one meal. Salad tomatoes avocado bellpepper half a sweet potato with lots of olive oil sprinkled over it and a steak 🥩 as side-dish. And I close with an „unhealthy“ dessert.
@@jenA9026Check out the carnivore diet (zero carb).. all the nutrients you'll need so you only feel like one or two meals a day. It's not for everyone though, you give up a lot of food variety but it's really life changing. Been two years and I'm never going back.
I just buried my Dad after his stomach paralysis broke down his gall bladder and then wrecking his kidneys and then he was dead. He lost 100% OF HIS WEIGHT AND NOW MY DAD IS GONE! The system DOESN'T CARE HOW it gets their statistics and whom they take out to present to you that it is such a low cause for alarm. In my opinion, Ozempic is DEADLY ☝️🤨

I used to take Wellbutrin and it was a massive appetite suppressant. I would have splitting headaches, low low energy, nausea ect. and not be hungry and would have to think “oh wait how many days has it been since I’ve had a proper meal”. It was insane not to feel hunger and not in a good way. Hunger cues are not something we should try and “solve”.
It just goes to show you how differently each persons makeup is. I’ve been taking Wellbutrin for a long time and it has not suppressed my appetite one teeny, tiny bit. In fact, it has caused weight gain. Go figure.
I took Ozempic for four months. Three days out of every week I suffered from abdominal pain and was miserable. I was told I would “get used to it”. I had to quit taking it because I couldn’t hold down a job while feeling so miserable. I never lost a pound, either.
Same- I was in such pain I thought I had amoebic dysentery and yet the nurse kept telling me to keep taking it, I would get used to it. 4 months and didn’t lose a pound. One day I was so sick I was doubled over was going to go to ER I was in such pain. I messaged the DR who prescribed it and (but the nurse reads the emails) and told her I can’t do this. Messaged my other doctor who told me to stop because I could have pancreatitis or colitis. A year later and I still have abdominal issues. And the DR who prescribed it was an endocrinologist so, a specialist.
glad you stopped. some ideas: eat more slowly. chew food 30-35 times each bite (chew food to paste); eat a whole foods plant based diet (see dr. barnard and physician's committee for responsible medicine on YT). berberine is a natural supplement that can increase GLP 1 without the side effects.

I only eat whole foods, nothing pre-packaged, more than 70 types of plants a week-high fiber, very little animal products, and I do light exercise a few hours a day on average. I don’t have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, and yet-My BMI makes me “obese.”
Growing up in the 1970s, we still drank soda, ate chips, and had fast food. The difference was they were occasional treats. We didn't have them every day. We also weren't told that we should snack or have 5-6 small meals a day like we are taught now. We had 3 meals most days. Occasionally we would snack but for the most part we were busy doing other things. I know that people want to discount exercise but I think there's something to be said for staying active. I hardly ever see kids playing with something that doesn't involve a screen these days.
The problem is definitely willpower. I had a friend who had 2 sisters. My female friend and her sisters were in competition to be the most attractive. My friend told me it is easy to be slim. You just eat little. That is absolutely true. Take the idea on board and it is hard but not impossible to do. Just suffer and do it. I keep doing it. Eat little!

Sadly, I have a friend that has lost 200 lbs. With Ozempic but has never changed the food she eats. Although she eats very little, she still eats junk food, processed and take out. Although the weight came off, she looks horrible. Ozempic also reduces huge amounts of muscle mass.
This man reversed my breast cancer … my consultant was so surprised …it was down to fasting and losing a shed load of weight so I cannot recommend this man enough … he thought I was a miracle …

Agree. I have Friends on it. I asked them if they are going to change their diet and get out and exercise so they could eventaully go off it and do it narturally. They both looked at me confused and weren't ready to make the commitment.

I was on Ozempic for 1 year for my Diabetes..My blood sugar was perfect ..Everything else forget about it..I thought I was going to die..I always felt nausea,...Sweating, racing heartbeat, just felt off..Tummy pain that just got worse..I woke up Dec 29th with chest pain, sweating, and tummy pain, and felt like I would pass out..I had the worst diarrhea of my life and woke up lying next to the toilet...I thought I was dying...I stopped taking Ozempic..I still have the worst heartburn in my life and an upset tummy..I go to the Doctor on Feb 8th to find out what happened to me..I'm a mess from Ozempic..Beware...
I’m sorry you went through all that, that sounds very dangerous. Plus there’s not enough research done on these drugs, and there’s always side effects. Pills aren’t the answer for weight loss, why not listen to Dr Fung he’s the man.
If I only ate when I was hungry, I wouldn’t have a weight problem! I eat for so many reasons not connected to actual hunger! And I can eat waaaay past feeling full. It’s my superpower!
That's why those of us like that need to make rules around eating. I have a no buying junk food in the house. I do buy all natural sugar free alternatives tho sometimes. I try not to eat past dinner or 6 pm. There are so many more little rules I keep adding and hold myself to them. It's very doable. ❤
I am a 70 something, and l had 40 pounds that needed to come off, l tried every diet on the planet, but l took it on and decided to no sugar and watch that sodium, and my weight came off in six months and guess what? I won’t put it back on cause that’s how l eat now, So l don’t have to worry about putting it back on, do it the normal way, and l never dreamed it would come off. IT’s sugar and sodium that’s causing all weight gain.
I actually had a professor that made a final exam so horrible only 1 person passed. They spent the entire next class lecturing us how it was our faults.

I just didn't do homework because I understood the equations. only people that were making below a B had to take the final, and it would be curved based on the highest grade. Nearly aced the test because I was forced to sit and do the work. The next grade was like a 75. Sorry about that.
The issue was not the professor, but the individuals who allowed this professor that doesn't work with the way most of the students want to operate to be teaching them. Find another professor , or find another way to learn the subject to pass.

The weight loss is not only body fat but muscle as well and the loss of muscle will make it harder to control blood glucose when the drug is stopped since muscle is the biggest glucose sink in the body. I can say with absolute certainty that MOST people struggling with weight do not over eat because they’re hungry. They over eat for a myriad of reasons. I can speak from experience as someone who has struggled with that and so have many MANY people in my circle of friends and family. It’s the same with drinking. People don’t OVER DRINK because they’re thirsty. It’s initially a vice for coping that eventually leads to a compulsion or an addiction to over indulge. I knew khloe used something because her face neck and arms just shrank and so did Kim.
Obesity can mess with hormones as fat, especially visceral fat, has its own hormonal system that competes with the body's natural hormonal system. These hormones change how hungry and full/satiated people feel, affects their mood (which also affects appetite). It's such a complicated network. That's why it is so hard to lose weight - you literally have to fight against your brain, and one moment of weakness can topple so much progress. The weight loss industry capitalizes on that.
In the case of Ozempic, it was originally designed for Type 2 diabetics to control blood sugar because it stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin to do so. There's not much data about the use of the drug on non-diabetic patients, so there needs to be studies of the drug on diabetic vs non-diabetic patients. There should be plenty of people willing to participate in such a study provided that they are supplied the drug for free since the drug is super-expensive.
As someone who's currently recovering from stomach dysbiosis after being on too many rounds of antibiotics, it pains me to think of people risking damage to their digestive tract just to be on Ozempic. When your gut is out of balance, it effects the rest of your body as around 70% of your immune system is located in your gut. I'm currently dealing with rashes, raised TSH (thyroid) levels, malnutrition, joint pain, and am getting sick now more than ever all because my gut is out of balance. That said, if you're on a medication that's effecting the stomach and digestive system, I find it hard to believe there isn't a real risk of developing gastrointestinal problems.
I tried Ozempic for about a month. It slowed/stopped my digestion to the point where I was so constipated I had to stop taking it and do a suppository and a master cleanse before I could function again. And I mean stopped....for two weeks I didn't go to the bathroom I was so stopped up. And it took a week of doing the master cleanse before I could go normally again. I was eating way less and losing weight but the side effects were terrible. It helped with my blood sugar levels as well but horrible constipation was just not worth it.
Been on Ozempic for two years. No problems at all from it. Any bowel ailments are from the diabetes NOT OZEMPIC. To each his own. One time I was on Jardiance. HAD to stop after 4 days as my joints felt like they were being attacked with a blowtorch. BOTTOM DOLLAR is OZEMPIC was/is designed for diabetes not weight loss. .
It's interesting how the function of every drug is to break a natural process. It never improves it. I have a family member who after his second injection, was rushed to the ER where he had to have his appendix removed. I wonder if skipping the whole digestion process and going straight to GLP-1 activation causes these issues since prior steps were skipped.
He completely left out that Ozempic causes paralysis of the digestive track which helps keep you full. This has been covered by several Dr's here on UA-cam such as Ekburg and Berg. I've seen it first hand where my friend ate a hot dog the day before and threw it up when we were hanging out and it was undigested and rancid
And the problem is augmented because a side effect of diabetes is slow gastric emptying (due to damage to the vagus nerve), so taking these drugs make a side effect of diabetes even worse. So people will have a hard time getting nutrients from their food, similar to the problem many gastric bypass patients have. This may explain why muscle loss happens in these patients. They are just not digesting enough protein to keep their muscle mass
This was interesting and Dr. Fung explains the problem of obesity well and why Ozempic works, but I thought the video would be about the "truth about Ozempic", what happens when you stop taking it, it is a medication for diabetes what happens if you take it and you are not diabetic, the shortage that is being created because nondiabetics are taking it, can it cause damage to other organs like the liver or kidneys if you take it for prolonged periods of time. how long must you take it to have a permanent influence on your weight or is it a treatment for life?
I have something called gastroparesis. On several of the lists I’m on for it, many have been diagnosed after taking this drug. And trust me, you would t wish this on your worst enemy.
I am sorry, I was given this drug and I read about gastroparesis and I decided not to take it, when I called my doctor that I was scared to take it, I was told it was rare and I am 100 overweight and the benefit outweighs the risk but my gut tells me not to take it so I haven't, it's been in my fridge for 8 months, at this point I am not going to start it, your post is what I needed to read, thank you for posting here and again I am sorry this. Wow, this is a very informative video! Thank you! I just started Week #7 on Mounjaro, and it is miraculous how it stops the food chatter in my brain! My stomach gets full eating half as much food. I am documenting my journey doing UA-cam lives on what I call Mounjaro Mondays when I take my shot. Thank you to the doctor you interviewed for his understanding of obesity! He described very well how eating protein helps too. I am very hopeful now that I will be able to return to a healthy weight, while taking this drug and mindfully eating more protein and veggies and less processed carbs. It helps my cravings to stop. Not worth it guys!! I was talked into using hormone replacement therapy by my doctor told that oh everything would be great and four years later I had a breast lesion and had to go in for a biopsy now I’m in anti-chemo therapy. I will probably be OK luckily, but do you want to go through that and of course she said oh it was so great. All the research said everything was fine very little issue for anyone. NOT TRUE!!!!

What I object to is the practice among so many UA-camrs of trying to create sensational captions that don’t deliver on what they promise, created merely to generate as many views as they can. I certainly understand what content creators are trying to do, but in this instance, Dr. Fung gave a generic description of Ozempic and how it words that I can google in 1 min. What those of us who know him hoped for, I think, (and the reason I watched) was because I thought he would discuss how Ozempic compares to other strategies, or possible downsides (or upsides) for Ozempic over other strategies-or some sort of information that I can’t find everywhere else.. I was a preteen/teen in the 70’s. We ate cookies , bread and jam, drank pop etc. We did not eat ALL the time. When we did eat, after, we went outside and played for hours until dinner. We didn’t eat in between meals. Eating out was a treat. Maybe twice a year. We ate real sugar, not fake. Almost everyone was thin. So thin ,that people now would think we were too thin. Our mother’s cooked for us. It’s not rocket science.

My brother in law developed severe, chronic pancreatitis and diarrhea after taking Ozempic for a short time - all to lose 20 pounds - and now he literally can't eat anything without getting terribly sick. Needless to say, he'd rather be fat! Beware!!!

I agree I got gallbladder psi it took me two weeks together painting go away. Went off Ozempic right away and now feel fine. They put these meds on the marketwaytoofast without proper and thorough testing. When I was on it my appetite got less and less. I was just not interested in food and got full after a few bites. All I managed to accomplish is make myself sick. And theyraisedtheprice Fromm $45 to$200+ in the two months I was on it. I am on Medicare and just turned 73. I do have diabetes but itis onder control. There has to be abetted solution and/ or more testing on this product. Now I ❤ method with an 8hourwindowinwhich I can eat. We will see how that works. I’m just sharing my experience, I’m not an expert. I grew up with food uncertainty and my mom had an eating disorder. My views of food were warped. I’d go from eating as much as I could to starving for days on end. Every food choice I made was to avoid weight gain. And what’s really freaky is that I wasn’t completely unlike my friends. We all “splurged” and had to “be good.” But as an adult I just got sick of the mental and emotional toll. So I decided I would eat 3 meals per day, no snacks, no skipping meals. I did a spreadsheet of a bunch of meal combos and realized that if I stuck to the recipes I had outlined, it was impossible to exceed my calories. This has been a life saver. When I was so up or down w food I thought I must have something wrong w me. Addiction or something medical. But it’s all evened out. Every once in a while, I’ll get the thought like “oh that was so good, have another plate and skip the next meal” but I follow my one rule: 3 meals, no more no less, and those thoughts go away and hardly ever come anymore. It’s been healing tbh. I think a real problem for a lot of us is that food is marketed like a product, always advertising so we’ll buy more but we also objectify our bodies and this combo creates a living hell. Now I see food is my fuel and my body is my vehicle for life. For what it’s worth, this is how I’ve found peace. ❤️

I started Ozempic and lost 30 pounds in like 2.5 months then my insurance stopped covering it but allowed me to go on Victoza which is liraglutide another GLP1 and I’ve lost another 25 pounds. The weight does shed quite quickly and easily. I feel so much lighter and have more energy because of it. I used to dread having to bend over and pick things up because I was out of shape. Now I bend like nothing I’m so much happier with life than ever before 🙂

I grew up in the sixties and seventies. Foods were sweetened with sugar back then. When food and beverage companies started replacing sugar with corn syrup (a cheap filler/ preservative) and also adding seed oils, people became huge and started getting fatty liver and diabetes at higher rates. Sugar is metabolized by every cell in your body. Corn syrup is only metabolized in your liver.
This is true. It is so annoying that the government thinks they are going to make us healthier by limiting our sugar intake. The unintended consequence of that was companies just started substituting, high fructose corn syrup for sugar. They made it worse, not better.

Thank you Dr. Fung. I was 310 pds for the last 5 years with hip arthritis for the last 2 years. Fasted lost inches but never saw weight loss on scale. My physician was not really interested in helping me lose weight. After weeks of crying and beating myself up. I changed medical plans and went to a wonderful hospital new physician and Ortho doctor. They worked together to assist me in getting a hip replacement and losing weight. I was advised that I was obese and I qualified for the med Ozempic and I was put on it. And it worked wonders since October 23 I have lost lost so much weight, because I really lost my appetite But the best part is my Ortho Physician introduced me to your channel and eating healthy fasting and exercise. And I am so healthy with no more high BP meds. Had a full physical and I'm in good physical shape and will be having hip surgery soon. And I'm so happy.
Congratulations on your success! My doc said my weight is fine, which was 170 at 5’2”. That’s not okay!!! IMO they want us too heavy so we’ll buy more pills. I recently started eating carnivore and in just a few days the arthritis in my back went from a pain level of 8 to 3 and 4. I’m hoping it will improve further.

Even if a drug goes against what he's been promoting as a simple solution to obesity, he still tells you the truth. That's not like a lot of other well-known keto or carnivore diet promoters who just spread nonsense and scare tactics. I really respect him for that.
I’m post menopause. I started eating MORE real food and exercising at least 1 to 6 days a week… I lost 40 pounds basically by not dieting and doing fun things and not stressing about it..
no woman is post menopause, once we stop having periods completely, we are IN MENOPAUSE for the rest of our life. it is the last stage of life before we die. Now, I am thrilled you are doing so well. Nothing worked for me until I went on Hormone replacement. I have been eating only one meal daily for as long as I can remember. I weigh 20 more pounds today than when I was 18 in the seventies. I have always tried to avoid overly processed food; if I do eat junk food, it's only in small amounts. We just finished planting the last of our four vegetable gardens today, gardens we never use pesticides or herbicides on. I live in a small city, and our front yard is not grass, it's a vegetable garden.

My morbid obesity had very little to do with hunger. I was addicted to eating, to the food, to the satisfying feel for the few minutes before the horrid over-stuffed feeling. I was a mess. I don’t understand all of the emotional reasons, perhaps, but it was as heart wrenching pain in every way.
I’m just a few pounds away from a “healthy” weight now. I’m eating high-fat keto. The excess skin is shrinking- it’s my own personal miracle than can be replicated by others.
Dr Jason Fung and others spreading the good news is wonderful.
After over 30 years in and out of Overeaters Anonymous, I learned not to rely on fads, shots, pills and other outside “cures”. Anything can help for a season, and then we deal with the damage of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual selves.
After all of that I had no real answers to stopping the addiction… until now.

I do think it’s a personal choice. My dad has diabetes and still eats processed carbs and sugar (he lost his left arm in a car accident due to a diabetic blackout). My brother(overweight and smoked) and mom (who classifies as obese) have high blood pressure (bro had a stroke that left his left side paralyzed at 39). My parents still smoke. They don’t exercise and they eat whatever they want and are on meds. I was raised by them, we live 5 minutes apart. Environment is not the problem. I still exercise everyday and avoid fried food, avoid sugar, don’t smoke, cut back heavily on alcohol, not on meds. I pack my lunches and snacks to have healthy foods outside of the house so I don’t depend on takeout/ fast food. I chose to educate myself and avoid unhealthy environments and influences. If I chose to let my environment control me, I would be like my family🤷🏻♀️ I had to undo so many bad habits I inherited and train the good ones I created.

Good for you for choosing to educate yourself and to start this lifelong journey. There are so many good channels here, for exercise I love “Madfit” and “Boho Yoga”. I also walk 3 miles everyday which takes less than 1 hour. For food I love “Spain on a Fork” and “ Mediterranean Minutes”. I’m also married to someone who exercises regularly and eats a healthy diet which makes it that much easier for me. Keep up the good work, you won’t regret choosing a healthy lifestyle.
From what you have described, that sounds like your environment. You don't inherit bad food habits you observe and pick them up consciously and unconsciously. Good on you for breaking those bad habits.

25 yrs ago, when I moved to USA, I gained a lot of weight. It’s not that I suddenly ate more here, it was the quality of the food, that I had no idea it might be different. Same problem with all my friends who moved here and even family members that just visited for few weeks, we all got bigger. In my country we simply didn’t have access to processed food, but also we didn’t have obese people. Of course it changed now

You are so right! Over processed food is is not only high in calories but also very low in nutrients. A lack of nutrients can increase starvation hormones which slow metabolism. It’s essential to take a good supplement

One time during a Cruise trip, I gained 12 pounds in 6 days.. and I did gym, walks, swimming, and all the activities on and out a board.. and I didn't drink soda nor beer.. I simply didn't understand what happened to my body. The same thing occurred during my 3 day trip to Las Vegas. Maybe I don't bear all-inclusive at all. It takes me 3 months to lose overweight that I gained in 3 days😂
It's carbs too, I gained fat and lost fat very slowly because I eat carbs. I am an athlete. I only gained fat because I had an injury.

The one thing that finally worked for me is time-restricted feeding. Pretty much every day I don’t eat breakfast and will have my first meal around noon (+ or - 1 hour). I usually have my second meal around 5 or 6 pm. This gives me a 16-18 hr fast every day. I highly recommend Dr. Fung’s book, The Obesity Code. It has made a impact on my life.

Yes, intermittent fasting. It also provides a ton of other health befits such as lowering cholesterol and blood sugar. My doctor recommended this (and I’m not even overweight, but she was concerned about signs of pre-diabetes).

Yes--my husband happened to pick up Dr. Fung's "Obesity Code" at a little free library when he was dropping off some of our books there. I started to read it, but to be honest hadn't expected much. But his section on intermittent fasting was inspiring. Six months ago I decided to try fasting every other day--since then I've lost over 75 lbs, while *gaining* muscle! This has been a real game changer for me!

I was on 2 types of insulin and metformin. March 1, 2022 I stopped taking all those meds and did intermittent fasting with low carb lifestyle and watched as my blood sugar dropped. My A1C today is 6.5.👍💜

I have reduced my A1C to 6.6 and am still working on getting it down to 6. Did you stop your meds once your A1C came down to 6.5? @@jimmiepatrum Hi! If you are intermittent fasting and eating low carb, I believe you can come off your meds for diabetes. The day I started this, I stopped taking all my meds-metformin and 2 types of insulin. And kept close track of my blood sugar, watching it fall. Today my A1C is 6.4. Plus I am no longer eating low low carb, when I started I stayed at 18 carbs per day for 8 straight months and then slowly started incorporating more carbs. Today I’m mindful what I eat, but not on a strict number of carbs. My diabetes doctor didn’t believe me and said to me”But you need SOME insulin “ and I said no, look at my numbers. He has never had a patient do this but I believe we MUST be proactive for ourselves. I am thankful for doctors, do not misunderstand me, but we know our bodies best. Try it and see, keeping a close eye on your daily blood sugar and keeping the carbs low. You will be pleasantly surprised.

As a kid in the 70s we had McDonalds or fast food maybe once every 5 months as a special treat. Otherwise we ate 3 meals a day with a snack being fruit or a cookie that Mum made. We played with our friends making up our own games and never came in until it was dinner. Our parents always knew where we were and everyone watched out for each other. Any fights were settled between us kids and rarely was a parent involved or even knew about it. Today kids are used to being offended by the smallest things! You can't have a birthday party without inviting the entire class for fear of someone's feelings being hurt. Not everything is bad today ... it is like anything. Moderation! Too many parents are giving their kids the control and sending the message that they are just there to basically serve their kids every need. All my parents had to do was give me the "look" and I instantly knew to stop or I would not get to watch TV or play outside with friends. No negotiations! No actually meant NO. Okay I am done ranting. ✌

There were almost zero fat people. Those who were fat were considered to have let themselves go and to have a serious problem.

Housework was also much more strenuous than it is now, and most women stayed home to keep up with all the work involved and were raising kids, cooking real meals.
It was very possible to live on one income, even a "blue collar" income was plenty.
Even in the 90s in Ireland it was like this. I can distinctly remember only going to Burger King or McDonald's on St. Patrick's day or another rare occasion 😂 Tea in a flask and some sandwiches otherwise. It's actually made me think I need to start doing this again as an adult 🤯

It also can be dangerous for people prone to low blood sugar levels. No reputable health authority or health professional in the world will recommend it.

Surround yourself with positive people. I know some very successful people that are obese but highly respected. Our body is just what carries around what's inside. The nay Sayers are doing you a favor. They're letting you know to not let them into your circle of positive people.
I think there is more to this than they are addressing. I find that when I eat or drink anything sweet, the sugar kills my appetite. So if I drink a soda, and I've never been able to drink huge amounts at one time, the sugar I've consumed actually kills my appetite for quite a long time. My experience in being overweight usually has nothing to do with actual physical hunger. I eat when I am not hungry. I eat to satisfy some emotional issues. I eat for comfort, I eat because I'm sad, etc. And I don't believe I'm unique in this regard.
Cutting out added sugar from my diet (whole fruit is fine because it also contains fiber) has helped me to control my hunger and to lower my weight. I no longer have huge blood sugar swings that used to make me get hangry and shake. Now I’m at the point I can not eat for 20 hours and I have no issues with hunger (I usually still eat after 18 to enjoy eating with family and friends). I just focus on no added sugar and Whole Foods and I don’t get hangry anymore. My experience is what Dr. Fung is describing, the soda made me hungry and thirsty. But I didn’t realize it until I cut it out of my diet completely. Took about two weeks before I noticed the difference. Just another perspective.

Those of us who eat a sugary diet can attest to the fact that we don’t have a huge appetite and we don’t eat a crazy amount of calories. But the problem with us is that the food we do eat spikes our insulin and keeps it circulating in our bodies. And as Dr Fung says….you cannot burn fat in the presence of insulin.

I'm not doubting you, whimsy, but you should know that eating sugar *decreasing* appetite is increadibly rare. For most people eating sugar and other sweeteners *increases* their appetite, as well as its being empty calories in itself.
I have a slightly different perspective. I think that the obesity crisis is caused by malnutrition. People overeat because they are hungry. They aren't eating enough proteins and fats. It is difficult to see this malnutrition, because we don't see overweight people as starving. So yes we have starving people out there. It may be easy to go to a fast food place and eat their food, but this food is nutrient deficient. We have easy access to food that is toxic and doesn't nourish you.

I was convinced for years I couldn't lose weight unless I had surgery or diet pills. I was sort of guided into this idea that obesity is a condition that can't be fixed with healthy habits, I'm not sure where that started but it had to be early 2010s. Two years ago I decided to lose weight the classic way. I've lost 90lbs by myself, no meds, no injections, no surgery. Just reducing calories. No exercise, even. I have 15lbs to go. I still eat fast food. I just eat less. I still eat cookies and sweets, just less. I don't even track calories. I just reduced portions and sizes. It actually works.

@@AndressChilds I didn't really count calories, only visibly reduced portion sizes. Or, I'd eat one of an item instead of two. I would say I'd keep calories between 1500 to 1800 nut sometimes over that. I am currently at 100lbs lost as of today!

Some people eat out of boredom or other psychological issues like low self esteem. Then there is a third one, that hit me smack dab in the face recently, things like hypothyroidism. About 6 years ago, I discovered I had genetic hypothyroidism. Finally got it diagnosed and my meds at proper levels 4 years ago. Dropped 160lbs virtually overnight, no dieting, no special exercising. Turns out my weight issues were not entirely my fault or within my control.

@@soniapadilla9880 Hi Sonia, I watched his old videos from 11 years ago onwards until I understood that my eating habits of eating too many hours in the day versus the calories I consumed was making me fat. I just followed his advice, stop alcohol, keep eating to 18 or less hours, when you break the fast, start with a good protein or healthy fat like an avocado and then a boiled egg, don't add milk to your coffee. I swapped out soda for iced tea, earl grey and green tea throughout the day, just refilling my large water glass when it was empty - amazing how much tea is leftover. And slowly, about 2 pounds a month, I lost weight.

Ozempic uses the same injector pens used by Novo Nordisk in their actual life saving type 1 diabetes insulin. Because of all the hype around Ozempic it has caused real supply problems (at least in the UK) for actual medicine. We couldn't get insulin for 4 weeks from our pharmacy back in November. The only thing we could do was call 111 and find a hospital that still had some. Absolutely ridiculous that hype around a weight loss drug (also used for T2 diabetes) means that people who actually need insulin injected to survive can't get their medicine.

On June 6, 2023 I weighed 340 pounds. Today, 7.5 months later, I weigh 271. Ozempic literally saved my life. As reported by other commenters, I ate frequently and I never stopped when I was full. I stopped when I was stuffed, and ate again as soon as I could. I could devour a pound of pot roast while dishing up my family's meal. I overate everything from Doritos to broccoli, ice cream to pears, salad, donuts, scrambled eggs, spaghetti, pork chops, potatoes, asparagus, olives...well, you get the drift. Here's the thing, though. Ozempic wouldn't have kept me from overeating if I didn't retool
my entire relationship with food. Seriously, I had to do the work, even when I felt chemically satiated. Why? Because I'm an emotional overeater. I self-medicate with food. Someday I'll no longer be taking Ozempic and I'll need an ingrained system of new habits - physical, social, behavioral - in order to make the adjustment. I'm now working on building muscle and stamina, eating well and carefully, strengthening my social network, and learning how to manouver through a world that, up until recently, has been too frightening for me to engage with. All my obese peeps hear me on this, I'm sure - "Will I fit in the restaurant booth?", "Will the people I'm meeting think awful things about my size?", "Will I break the antique dining chair in my friend's house?", "How will I make myself small enough not to touch arms with the person in the next seat at the movies?" It goes on and on. The moral of this story is that Ozempic doesn't fail, it's just a chemical tool, but people do fail if they don't understand that it's simply a tool. It's up to us to build a house that will stand after the tools have been packed up and taken away.

My goal is to be sustainably lean and healthy and off Ozempic by this time next year, or sooner. But who knows? Man plans and God laughs. This isn't my first weight-loss rodeo and I've always ended up in the dirt, broken and recidivistic, every time before. But I'm old now, and my time is short. I want to be able to chase my grandkids around the yard and be generally active until my number gets punched. The idea of spending years in painful, defeated inactivity is horrifying. What I'm banking on is that I'll be more addicted to my new life than I was to compulsive eating. Sugary processed carbs set up a feedback loop in my brain whereby the more I eat, the more I want. A pound of pot roast is over 1300 calories, but it also shuts down hunger, which is why keto eaters don't count calories. I agree that eating keto creates a biochemical environment that results in weight loss and a healthier metabolism for most people. My problem was that I'll eat the pot roast and continue to eat the junk food. I ate from compulsion, not actual hunger. Starbucks frappuccinos, bags of Takis, and drive through burgers are obvious foods (and I use that term loosely) that everyone should avoid. But avoiding the poison is only the first step. At the grocery store, dedicate yourself to real, whole, minimally processed choices whether you eat keto, carnivore, plant-based, vegan, or whatever. Ozempic isn't magic, it's not a panacea, but it shuts down the food noise in my head and dampens my compulsions. It makes weight loss easier, but, I still have to do the work myself.

Here is a wild theory.. could the hormones they give animals to get them to eat more for consumption pass onto us making us hungry?
That is an interesting thought, however it's more due to the addictive quality of sugar, vegetable seed oils and wheat-flour, the major components of junk foods; they're the ingredients in plentiful use and chemical additives are the other. Look at the advertising, thousands of products and the irrational belief in eating snacks to maintain blood sugar for energy. Our bodies were equipped to eat and fast, eat and fast, humans developed this way over thousands of generations. Now we are hormonally out of balance and this is due to the constant constant eating resulting in the relentless elevation of the storage hormone insulin. Society has been lied to and the manufacturers of these poisonous junk foods are the only entities to profit. Eating whole foods as our progenitors did is the answer.
The added sugars in foods that have no business having them is huge in the addiction to modern processed food. After being in ketosis for a few weeks it is wild how your palette regains its sensitivity. Commercially made white bread toast is sweet like cake! Making bread and buns at home is one of my small steps to break up with the food industry.

Yes. I briefly lived in China and they do not give these hormones. I lost 15 pounds in one month and even ate MORE. I ate snacks and 3 meals a day.
Several gastroenterologists looked at my upper gi, it was a mess, and mentioned ozempic. Sure enough I injected a half dose for 2 months. Felt exhausted and just off. Lost a bit of weight, gained more when I stopped. Have used exercise and moderation with food, finally losing again. Beware if you have or are prone to esophageal problems or acid reflux.

My understanding of it is that because these drugs slow digestion, they often exacerbate reflux. Acid reflux causes esophageal damage and can contribute to esophageal and laryngeal cancers, among other problems.@@bevharo3750
Mine was becoming a mess. Am now on the PROPER medications which have eradicated all stomach problems. OZEMPIC causes me ZERO problems except I have unfortunately lost a few WANTED AND MUCH NEEDED pounds. And yes, I am a type 2 diabetic. Ozempic is a God send as it is helping me stay away from INSULIN.

Best way I’ve noticed to feel full is to make a 5 min brake halfway true the meal. After that you feel full.I eat half the amount this way then I would eat if eting fast and no break.

You're allowing your leptin to increase. GLP-1 agonists do the exact same thing when they suppress glucagon and drive insulin and leptin. Difference is that you're doing it naturally and appropriately.

I contracted pancréatitis after 7 months on ozempic . Ozempic reduced my hbac1 and I lost 24kg because I was always sick from it. Intestine and stomach pains , big digestion problems and so tired . I never had any problems of digestion or pancreas before . Today everyhing is fortunately back to normal having stopped ozempic which is not always the case . In france Ozempic is prescribed a lot by specialists but in case of problems, nobody's wants to know. I'm very shocked .

You can still get hungry on intermittent. So they use things like caffeine, sparkling water, and other devices. You can't just tell someone who is dealing with overwhelming hunger, 'Oh just don't eat during the day.'
I see so many people come in the ER with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation and some have pancreatitis. This crap just slows your intestines to a turtle pace but in some cases it can completely shut it down and then you really have problems. Long term effects are going to be bad for these people.

I've read articles about people on Ozempic and over time the food stops moving through their intestines, which can be fatal.
Glad u mentioned this. People often overlook the side effects because they like the benefit. Big pharma meds ALWAYS have serious side effects regardless how great the initial results. Remember when Fen Fen came out and everyone was losing weight? It was the new diet craze. Years later a class action lawsuit emerged because patients were having serious diseases years after taking it.
GLP-1s were FDA approved for type 2 diabetics since 2005. It’s been used off-label for weight loss for 15+years, and more recently FDA approved for weight loss.
Are there risks? Yes. People need to be medically pre-screened, as certain conditions make GLP-1s inappropriate/risky for some patients. And, the medication needs to be properly dosed, with ongoing monitoring of things like thyroid levels.
Used properly, GLP-1s have a safe “track record” & the risks are known. If you ignore your risk factors, improperly use the drug, and don’t monitor relevant blood results, bad things can happen with many drugs.
Ozempic is forced fasting, but I wonder if they stop it, it will have the opposite effect, where they will not be able to fast normally.

My trainer told me to drink 16oz of water before I eat and drink 16 oz after. That works pretty well to make sure that I don't over eat.

How do you get all your nutrients? I couldn't get all my reccommended daily intake of calcium, vitamins, protien, fibre etc in one meal. And I like eating. I'm also on the lowest end of reccommended weight, so that's all good.
@@jenA9026 I eat a lot 😳 during that one meal. Salad tomatoes avocado bellpepper half a sweet potato with lots of olive oil sprinkled over it and a steak 🥩 as side-dish. And I close with an „unhealthy“ dessert.
@@jenA9026Check out the carnivore diet (zero carb).. all the nutrients you'll need so you only feel like one or two meals a day. It's not for everyone though, you give up a lot of food variety but it's really life changing. Been two years and I'm never going back.

I was taking only 1/4 a dose and couldn’t stop projectile vomiting. I was unable to eat anything and gave it up to save my life.
I just buried my Dad after his stomach paralysis broke down his gall bladder and then wrecking his kidneys and then he was dead. He lost 100% OF HIS WEIGHT AND NOW MY DAD IS GONE! The system DOESN'T CARE HOW it gets their statistics and whom they take out to present to you that it is such a low cause for alarm. In my opinion, Ozempic is DEADLY ☝️🤨

I used to take Wellbutrin and it was a massive appetite suppressant. I would have splitting headaches, low low energy, nausea ect. and not be hungry and would have to think “oh wait how many days has it been since I’ve had a proper meal”. It was insane not to feel hunger and not in a good way. Hunger cues are not something we should try and “solve”.

Most anti depressants have this side effect.This happened to me with Zoloft, which I am weaning off of.I don’t want to lose muscle mass.
It just goes to show you how differently each persons makeup is. I’ve been taking Wellbutrin for a long time and it has not suppressed my appetite one teeny, tiny bit. In fact, it has caused weight gain. Go figure.

I took Ozempic for four months. Three days out of every week I suffered from abdominal pain and was miserable. I was told I would “get used to it”. I had to quit taking it because I couldn’t hold down a job while feeling so miserable. I never lost a pound, either.
Same- I was in such pain I thought I had amoebic dysentery and yet the nurse kept telling me to keep taking it, I would get used to it. 4 months and didn’t lose a pound. One day I was so sick I was doubled over was going to go to ER I was in such pain. I messaged the DR who prescribed it and (but the nurse reads the emails) and told her I can’t do this. Messaged my other doctor who told me to stop because I could have pancreatitis or colitis. A year later and I still have abdominal issues. And the DR who prescribed it was an endocrinologist so, a specialist.
glad you stopped. some ideas: eat more slowly. chew food 30-35 times each bite (chew food to paste); eat a whole foods plant based diet (see dr. barnard and physician's committee for responsible medicine on YT). berberine is a natural supplement that can increase GLP 1 without the side effects.
Terrible nausea and headaches the entire time. Put on 5lbs in the first week. Had to quit it.

I only eat whole foods, nothing pre-packaged, more than 70 types of plants a week-high fiber, very little animal products, and I do light exercise a few hours a day on average. I don’t have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, and yet-My BMI makes me “obese.”
Growing up in the 1970s, we still drank soda, ate chips, and had fast food. The difference was they were occasional treats. We didn't have them every day. We also weren't told that we should snack or have 5-6 small meals a day like we are taught now. We had 3 meals most days. Occasionally we would snack but for the most part we were busy doing other things. I know that people want to discount exercise but I think there's something to be said for staying active. I hardly ever see kids playing with something that doesn't involve a screen these days.
The problem is definitely willpower. I had a friend who had 2 sisters. My female friend and her sisters were in competition to be the most attractive. My friend told me it is easy to be slim. You just eat little. That is absolutely true. Take the idea on board and it is hard but not impossible to do. Just suffer and do it. I keep doing it. Eat little!
This was fantastic information for the ordinary person on the street that doesn’t really understand the science behind calories in calories out and the law of thermodynamics. Sadly, I have a friend that has lost 200 lbs. With Ozempic but has never changed the food she eats. Although she eats very little, she still eats junk food, processed and take out. Although the weight came off, she looks horrible. Ozempic also reduces huge amounts of muscle mass.
Ya you really need to pair ozempic with high protein and weight training to preserve muscle mass.

Agree. I have Friends on it. I asked them if they are going to change their diet and get out and exercise so they could eventaully go off it and do it narturally. They both looked at me confused and weren't ready to make the commitment.

I was on Ozempic for 1 year for my Diabetes..My blood sugar was perfect ..Everything else forget about it..I thought I was going to die..I always felt nausea,...Sweating, racing heartbeat, just felt off..Tummy pain that just got worse..I woke up Dec 29th with chest pain, sweating, and tummy pain, and felt like I would pass out..I had the worst diarrhea of my life and woke up lying next to the toilet...I thought I was dying...I stopped taking Ozempic..I still have the worst heartburn in my life and an upset tummy..I go to the Doctor on Feb 8th to find out what happened to me..I'm a mess from Ozempic..Beware...

It is designed for diabetics. Anything else is foolishness. I AM ON Ozempic for T2 diabetes. NO problems whatsoever.
I’m sorry you went through all that, that sounds very dangerous. Plus there’s not enough research done on these drugs, and there’s always side effects. Pills aren’t the answer for weight loss, why not listen to Dr Fung he’s the man.

If I only ate when I was hungry, I wouldn’t have a weight problem! I eat for so many reasons not connected to actual hunger! And I can eat waaaay past feeling full. It’s my superpower!
That's why those of us like that need to make rules around eating. I have a no buying junk food in the house. I do buy all natural sugar free alternatives tho sometimes. I try not to eat past dinner or 6 pm. There are so many more little rules I keep adding and hold myself to them. It's very doable. ❤

I am a 70 something, and l had 40 pounds that needed to come off, l tried every diet on the planet, but l took it on and decided to no sugar and watch that sodium, and my weight came off in six months and guess what? I won’t put it back on cause that’s how l eat now, So l don’t have to worry about putting it back on, do it the normal way, and l never dreamed it would come off. IT’s sugar and sodium that’s causing all weight gain.

Ya, I've ruined that curve for a class. I just didn't do homework because I understood the equations. only people that were making below a B had to take the final, and it would be curved based on the highest grade. Nearly aced the test because I was forced to sit and do the work. The next grade was like a 75. Sorry about that.
The issue was not the professor, but the individuals who allowed this professor that doesn't work with the way most of the students want to operate to be teaching them. Find another professor , or find another way to learn the subject to pass.

The weight loss is not only body fat but muscle as well and the loss of muscle will make it harder to control blood glucose when the drug is stopped since muscle is the biggest glucose sink in the body. I can say with absolute certainty that MOST people struggling with weight do not over eat because they’re hungry. They over eat for a myriad of reasons. I can speak from experience as someone who has struggled with that and so have many MANY people in my circle of friends and family. It’s the same with drinking. People don’t OVER DRINK because they’re thirsty. It’s initially a vice for coping that eventually leads to a compulsion or an addiction to over indulge.

Obesity can mess with hormones as fat, especially visceral fat, has its own hormonal system that competes with the body's natural hormonal system. These hormones change how hungry and full/satiated people feel, affects their mood (which also affects appetite). It's such a complicated network. That's why it is so hard to lose weight - you literally have to fight against your brain, and one moment of weakness can topple so much progress. The weight loss industry capitalizes on that.

In the case of Ozempic, it was originally designed for Type 2 diabetics to control blood sugar because it stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin to do so.
There's not much data about the use of the drug on non-diabetic patients, so there needs to be studies of the drug on diabetic vs non-diabetic patients.
There should be plenty of people willing to participate in such a study provided that they are supplied the drug for free since the drug is super-expensive.
As someone who's currently recovering from stomach dysbiosis after being on too many rounds of antibiotics, it pains me to think of people risking damage to their digestive tract just to be on Ozempic. When your gut is out of balance, it effects the rest of your body as around 70% of your immune system is located in your gut. I'm currently dealing with rashes, raised TSH (thyroid) levels, malnutrition, joint pain, and am getting sick now more than ever all because my gut is out of balance. That said, if you're on a medication that's effecting the stomach and digestive system, I find it hard to believe there isn't a real risk of developing gastrointestinal problems.
I tried Ozempic for about a month. It slowed/stopped my digestion to the point where I was so constipated I had to stop taking it and do a suppository and a master cleanse before I could function again. And I mean stopped....for two weeks I didn't go to the bathroom I was so stopped up. And it took a week of doing the master cleanse before I could go normally again. I was eating way less and losing weight but the side effects were terrible. It helped with my blood sugar levels as well but horrible constipation was just not worth it.
I did notice that there was no mention of still requiring nutrition for the body to function properly...
Been on Ozempic for two years. No problems at all from it. Any bowel ailments are from the diabetes NOT OZEMPIC. To each his own. One time I was on Jardiance. HAD to stop after 4 days as my joints felt like they were being attacked with a blowtorch. BOTTOM DOLLAR is OZEMPIC was/is designed for diabetes not weight loss.

It's interesting how the function of every drug is to break a natural process. It never improves it. I have a family member who after his second injection, was rushed to the ER where he had to have his appendix removed. I wonder if skipping the whole digestion process and going straight to GLP-1 activation causes these issues since prior steps were skipped.

He completely left out that Ozempic causes paralysis of the digestive track which helps keep you full. This has been covered by several Dr's here on UA-cam such as Ekburg and Berg. I've seen it first hand where my friend ate a hot dog the day before and threw it up when we were hanging out and it was undigested and rancid

And the problem is augmented because a side effect of diabetes is slow gastric emptying (due to damage to the vagus nerve), so taking these drugs make a side effect of diabetes even worse. So people will have a hard time getting nutrients from their food, similar to the problem many gastric bypass patients have. This may explain why muscle loss happens in these patients. They are just not digesting enough protein to keep their muscle mass

This was interesting and Dr. Fung explains the problem of obesity well and why Ozempic works, but I thought the video would be about the "truth about Ozempic", what happens when you stop taking it, it is a medication for diabetes what happens if you take it and you are not diabetic, the shortage that is being created because nondiabetics are taking it, can it cause damage to other organs like the liver or kidneys if you take it for prolonged periods of time. how long must you take it to have a permanent influence on your weight or is it a treatment for life?

I have something called gastroparesis. On several of the lists I’m on for it, many have been diagnosed after taking this drug. And trust me, you would t wish this on your worst enemy.

I am sorry, I was given this drug and I read about gastroparesis and I decided not to take it, when I called my doctor that I was scared to take it, I was told it was rare and I am 100 overweight and the benefit outweighs the risk but my gut tells me not to take it so I haven't, it's been in my fridge for 8 months, at this point I am not going to start it, your post is what I needed to read, thank you for posting here and again I am sorry this. Wow, this is a very informative video! Thank you! I just started Week #7 on Mounjaro, and it is miraculous how it stops the food chatter in my brain! My stomach gets full eating half as much food. I am documenting my journey doing UA-cam lives on what I call Mounjaro Mondays when I take my shot. Thank you to the doctor you interviewed for his understanding of obesity! He described very well how eating protein helps too. I am very hopeful now that I will be able to return to a healthy weight, while taking this drug and mindfully eating more protein and veggies and less processed carbs. It helps my cravings to stop. I was talked into using hormone replacement therapy by my doctor told that oh everything would be great and four years later I had a breast lesion and had to go in for a biopsy now I’m in anti-chemo therapy. I will probably be OK luckily, but do you want to go through that and of course she said oh it was so great. All the research said everything was fine very little issue for anyone. NOT TRUE!!!!
