100% agree. You shouldn't eat when you're not hungry. Seems like what you eat is more important. Eat your big meal when you break your fast (for me around noon, when I actually start to feel hungry), then a smaller meal at least three hours before bedtime. Low carb is key to avoid cravings. I have an overwhelming sweet tooth, but it totally disappears when I keep my daily carbs below about 20 grams total each day.
I would love to have a high protein breakfast. My biggest issue is that I have stage 3 kidney disease. Not sure how to do this. My body really misses the protein. Any advise?

I found that eating later 11:30 12, or 1 pm improved my heart condition. I found that fasting for 18 hours or a little more definitely gave me some autophagy. An overall long period of time helped me beat my heart problem. If I eat in the morning my blood sugar level is stable, but I lose that extra bit of autophagy which appears to be like turning on a dimmer switch. I've done this test quite a few times over a few years. I am also a very slim build, and always have been. But interestingly I noticed my muscle increased with the fasting. There seemed to be a growth hormone release which appeared to protect the muscle.
I’m eating breakfast right now one chicken egg one duck egg one slice of Ezekiel toast, buttered, and a purple Okinawa sweet potato. I stopped eating sweet breakfast my early 20s. I realize that donuts at the craft services table were fueling the headaches I was feeling just before lunch.
That is indeed true. I live in a very rural area with farmers, many old, active, and healthy. No one breaks fast until around noon. Sometimes a bit earlier, sometimes a bit later. No one eats after 4-6pm depending. My grandparents and great grandparents never ate breakfast, and neither do I. They're all long lived. My husband's family also does not eat breakfast (they are farmers from a different part of the world), and the are a bunch of incredibly long-lived individuals. If I were to eat an early breakfast I would feel like garbage. Especially since I'm not hungry then. I'll stick with what my ancestors did, and what makes me feel great!
Right. I usually have a modest brunch around 12pm, like eggs, brown bread, legumes and a bit of meat. Seems like it works, too, having walked before and lifted weights if possible. Sometimes I have plenty of chow around midday, with smaller meals like soups and sammiches around 5pm. One can trust the body once the metabolism is sorted out: hungry? Enjoy some whole foods... I don't really crave. 16-18/8-6 seems to work for me.
Question about Tofu? It’s made from soy, so, is soy a healthy product to consume? Soybean oil is not good to consume, yet it’s included in so many processed foods , chips, breads that are sold at the grocery stores.
so......... I've been doing this ALL wrong? I eat 1/2c oatmeal, flaxseed, chia seeds, hemp seeds and berries every morning. I FEEL amazing!!! I eat whole food planted based and I don't want to eat eggs. What do you suggest a vegan eat for breakfast???
Our bodies circadian rhythm is based partly around what time we eat. Cortisol for example rises highest in the morning and doesn't stop until you eat your first meal. If you don't want until dinner, cortisol levels will be elevated that entire time.
Whatever time you eat your first meal, I guess that's breakfast. I'm not hungry until 1 PM (or later) so I eat when I'm hungry. Bigger meal then, very light evening meal, no nighttime snacks. It's working.
16-8 or even 18-6 works for me. IF is a game changer (along with Keto). I normally had been skipping breakfast and eating at lunch time. However, lately I have been waking up STARVING like I have never felt before. I honestly feel like I should eat breakfast again and just have a broth or light soup for dinner. I feel like for some reason at this piint skipping breakfast being this unusually hungry currently will cause my metabolism to slow down. Beforehand I didn't feel this was an issue but before I didn't wake up feeling ridiculously hungry either. Something has changed for this moment, so I will go with the change for now and see what happens. The fact that your video on this topic keeps being suggested to me seems like a universal nudge.
Skipping breakfast is part of implementing intermittent fasting most days since I'm now in perimenopause. It helped me regain control of weight gain, but when I do, it is usually eggs, always a protein with tea. Protein is important for retaining muscle in this part of life for women. Before perimenopause I always ate breakfast.
I’m the opposite, at 46 and after years of fasting til lunchtime/early afternoon I’m not able to shift some stubborn fat I gained after stopping the pill. I remember a study done decades ago that showed that a protein breakfast maintained blood sugar levels throughout the whole day. Eating the same at noon didn't have the same effect.

You can have a breakfast with protein on a keto diet ! And eat organic vegetables, have an healthy keto diet that is what I am doing in France, keto doesn’t mean fat everywhere, grilled toxic, bacon , meat all the time
I am not sure about it. I had been consuming mostly protein and fat for almost 2 years, but my blood sugar and weight did not improve. Of course, I do not eat highly processed foods or drink sugary drinks. Only when I started fasting, eating twice a day (at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.), and skipping snacks, did I start to see changes.
100% agree with this although I eat dairy, raw Jersey milk, but that's me. If I don't eat like this my whole day is affected, including my sleep. That is the biggest motivator of all! LOVE sleep.
I skipped breakfast for a full year. My energy levels were in the tank. No more. I started mixing a protein powder with my coffee to ease into food in the morning again. Happy to report I have energy again
I don’t eat breakfast. I tried eating breakfast because of this type of thinking and I felt like shit all day. We need to skip 1 meal and I think depending who you are which meal to skip. I gained weight. Felt overly sluggish with breakfast.
I skipped breakfast for decades and it worked for me… until it didn’t anymore. Now in my 40s, I find I feel better and eat better throughout the day when I eat breakfast. It also helps me meet daily protein and fibre requirements.
I had been skipping breakfast for a couple of years with no weight loss until my new nutritionist told me to eat breakfast even though I didn’t feel like it- and to eat it at 8am - just one slice wholewheat toast with scrape of peanut butter- funnily enough I have lost weight for the first time in years and I do think it improves my mood
For vegans- I have 1cup of oil free soy mylk, 1 and a half cups of frozen berries or other fruits (mango, pink dragonfruit, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries etc) 25 gms of unsweetened pea protein and 1 or 2 bananas depending on size. I sometimes add hemp hearts too. Tastes so good and keeps me full for 5 hours. :))
Never combine fruit with other foods for multiple reasons, which I skip here. I eat fruit first thing and wait 90 minutes before adding other things such as eggs.
I wish I could find organic soy milk. I’ve learned soy is one of the crops most heavily sprayed with herbicides and pesticides. Organic soy avoids that.
Totally agree with the types of food you're suggesting but I'm really confused, everywhere I look someone is promoting fasting till lunch, I've just gone over the line with Diabetes 2 and would like to get this sorted asap, can you or anyone say which is better to do, because I'm at a loss.
Breakfast is definitely not necessary early in the morning. A glass of water, a cup of coffee, fine. Naturally we’d be out of our cave a looking for a rabbit, salmon or chicken … and be lucky to catch one before noon. Eating earliest 1pm works for me.
I tried skipping breakfast and gain a weigth, luckilly for a short time. Now,I`m back on track with my breakfast and lost that kg.Skipping breakfast doesn`t work for me!
What if I like to exercise in the morning? My doctor recommended bananas with oats and honey before training and only then, when I return from training, I could eat a protein-rich meal. What do you think about this? What should I do?
Just makes me want to eat the rest of the day, like all carbs. I almost never eat breakfast but if I do, it better be almost all protein and fat or else it will be a binge day.

Was doing keto for 6 months, first meal at 12pm.....now im just going back to what he is saying: healthy protein breakfast, lunch, dinner.❤
You can have a breakfast with protein on a keto diet ! And eat organic vegetables, have an healthy keto diet that is what I am doing in France, keto doesn’t mean fat everywhere, grilled toxic, bacon , meat all the time
@@nathaliedelplanque7400 exactly mate
I am keto and haven’t had 1 pce of processed meat in 4 years
I am not sure about it. I had been consuming mostly protein and fat for almost 2 years, but my blood sugar and weight did not improve. Of course, I do not eat highly processed foods or drink sugary drinks. Only when I started fasting, eating twice a day (at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.), and skipping snacks, did I start to see changes.
i only now eat a 2MAD. Starting at 11 or 11:30am and ending at 6:30. In the evenings I have some tea
100% agree with this although I eat dairy, raw Jersey milk, but that's me. If I don't eat like this my whole day is affected, including my sleep. That is the biggest motivator of all! LOVE sleep.
thanks this was very helpful
My personal experience shows something similar. Thanks.
Wonderful intelligent advice.
Mark you are an inspiration! Thank you!
Thank yu Mark great tips fr breakfast love all yur videos 👍🙏
I skipped breakfast for a full year. My energy levels were in the tank. No more. I started mixing a protein powder with my coffee to ease into food in the morning again. Happy to report I have energy again
I eat dinner and skip breakfast.
I have to socialize and like to sit on a dinner table with my family, hence can't skip dinner.
This makes so much sense.
Very nice Video, well and detailed explained. Dr Hyman, Thank you for your breakfast ideas!Musical Greetings!
👍
I don’t eat breakfast. I tried eating breakfast because of this type of thinking and I felt like shit all day. We need to skip 1 meal and I think depending who you are which meal to skip. I gained weight. Felt overly sluggish with breakfast.
Great info but had to only listen. please keep camera angle still for at least 15 secs every 5 or less makes you dizzy
There are several fasting doctors that have a different opinion on skipping breakfast to fast. That includes Dr. Li and Dr Fung.
Glad you found what works for you!
Really appreciate this! Thank you : )
Thank you for sharing this info! Can you share what goat whey you use for your protein shakes? @mark hyman, md
Thank you very much for that useful video😘

Great video!!! 🎉❤ I have a rule in this house “keto breakfast” 🍳 🥓 (eggs & bacon) and even the three teenagers are nice!!!! 🎉😂❤
Are there any studies that looked at oatmeal breakfast? It doesn't spike insulin the way sugary cereals do.
Organic soy avoids that.
pea protein is to be avoided.
@@hanapapercuts can you tell me why please?
Skip highly processed pea protein. Tofu better.
How about rice and beans for breakfast. A complete protein and blue zone favorite!!
Totally agree with the types of food you're suggesting but I'm really confused, everywhere I look someone is promoting fasting till lunch, I've just gone over the line with Diabetes 2 and would like to get this sorted asap, can you or anyone say which is better to do, because I'm at a loss.
Since you mentioned it, what does your "meditation " look like?
More please !! Thanks
How do you successfully fast if you can’t skip breakfast?
Breakfast is definitely not necessary early in the morning. A glass of water, a cup of coffee, fine. Naturally we’d be out of our cave a looking for a rabbit, salmon or chicken … and be lucky to catch one before noon. Eating earliest 1pm works for me.
According to dr Joe furnham lunch is most important meal of the day. ! Get him on to discuss ! Thanks
Started eating tin of sardines on whole grain toast to heal broken wrist. healthy, quick and easy
I tend to drink glass of water with apple cider first, workout and then protein breakfast.. it works well for me.. everyone body reacts differently.
Isn’t coconut oil saturated fat? Isn’t saturated fat a nono?
Skipping breakfast was best desicion for my gut
would you agree that ‘breakfast’ is simply the first meal after a long fast, whatever time that may be?
Where can i find the cabbage pancake recipe?😊
What about oatmeal?
Just makes me want to eat the rest of the day, like all carbs. I almost never eat breakfast but if I do, it better be almost all protein and fat or else it will be a binge day.
Oatmeal is great. Nutrient dense.

Switched to eTRE 2 years ago and my sleep got much better. never doing lTRE again.
What about bullet proof coffee for breakfast?
Everyone’s daily schedule and metabolism is different. Eat real satiating foods not processed foods and your body will tell when it’s time to eat! It’s not that complicated when you feed your body right. ❤️
Been wondering about the trend to fast all day because I get no work done and get headaches.
For me breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. Brunch, dinner and healthy snacks
What does the OMAD crowd have to say to this? I’m torn.
there has been some studies that suggest only two eggs per day. I'm on a statin so maybe 3-4 eggs will be ok.
Thank you for trying to help and building your branch in an humanitarian way of being a doctor. The modern - up to date one
