      Brian May's Homemade Guitar, Made From Old Tables, Bike and Motorcycle Parts & More. It's called "The Red Special." Or sometimes "The Fireplace." That's the guitar that Brian May (guitarist of Queen and physics researcher) began building with his father circa 1963, when Brian was about 16 years old

    Steve Vai said of Brian May ""I can listen to any player and pantomime their sound, but I can't do Brian May. He's just walking on higher ground."

    • @frontier_fancier
      @frontier_fancier 8 років тому +108

      Well there's a couple main reasons he can't do Brian May: he plays with a coin, which has a profound effect on his tone. He also plays with a guitar that he crafted himself. Even the Red Special copies aren't exactly like his. Lastly, he uses three Vox AC30's which have been heavily modified to Brian's personal preferences. So it's no wonder Steve Vai can't emulate him, nor can anyone else for that matter. Unless you've got the gear Brian has, you're never gonna sound anywhere close to him...

    • @eileenj.m.3461

      It's more than gear.

      Eileen J.M., Yes, it is, and I wish I had just 1% of it.

    • @frontier_fancier
      @frontier_fancier 7 років тому +31

      Eileen J.M. Yeah, obviously. As it is with any guitarist. But the difference that Brian May's gear makes to his tone compared to other guitarists is much, MUCH greater. That's why I think that quote from Steve Vai is a little bit ludicrous.

    • @jack_o._lantern
      @jack_o._lantern 7 років тому +35

      +Eileen J.M. it's mostly about the gear though. If you have roughly the same gear as a certain guitarist and you study their style long enough, you will be able to sound like them; not exactly, but very close. Brian's rig, however, is so personalized and one-of-a-kind that only Brian can sound like Brian because he's the only one in the world that has that exact gear.

    Seem like people forgot what it was all about.. After have been playing guitar for nearly 25 years, and 10 of them on a professional basis, the following words can be said.. You are NEVER gonna change rock with fast scales and schreddin'.. You will in 90% of the cases only hit a dead end and stagnate as a guitar player.. Nearly everybody can learn how to play scales fast, backed up with tons of distortion.. Be a good guitarists never was/never will be about that.. I can play fast, but i envy people like Keith Richards/Brian may/Jimmy page.. masters of the art of building riffs/feeling and sound of the jazz/r'n b influenced pioneer virtuoses from the 70's.. One day when you grow up as a guitar player, you will also understand that!

    • @Dutch2go
      @Dutch2go 10 років тому +8

      You are biased just as the guy you're commenting on. Rock solos are all about playing with feeling and with emotion, and you can express different feelings/emotions when playing slow or when playing fast, and both are valid rock music styles, and YES, fast scales and shredding solos HAVE changed rock. Listen for example to Michael Schenker's solo in Rock Bottom. Michael S. is, incidentally, really good friends with Brian May...

    Unico e grande! Brian May! 👏👏👏👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️Lo ascolto dal...? Praticamente da sempre! Avevo su per giù,14/15 anni.Amavo i Queen! Ma difficilmente mi innamoro dei leader di una band! M' innamorai dell'artista,( chitarrista) Brian May! L'amore per Freddie Mercury, subentro ' dopo qualche mese!Ma poi da allora,non ci fu che passione,solo per i suoi occhi e la sua voce,che mi ipnotizzavano! Freddie! ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹.Ma il chitarrista mi incuriosiva! Era così sempre attento,con le sue dolci mani,a far diventare " musica" qualsiasi nota nel mio cervello! E a distanza di anni , dopo la morte di Freddie Mercury ( oggi ho 50 anni)e un piccolo cell.Pochi mesi fa, mi presi la briga di cercare su UA-cam,il nome del chitarrista dei Queen! Ed ecco che arrivò il nome di questo grande chitarrista! Amato e adorato da sempre! Brian May!🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗

    I admire what I know about Brian May to a great degree...his studious interest in science, his chops (few others could sit down with EVH and keep up that readily, listen to the Star Fleet Project) and his approach to guitar sound...he did not let himself be that influenced by the established tone of the time, he completely sought out his own tone...
