Eli Wilson 100% agree lol
Free Bird's solo is flawless, truly the gold standard.
I came to the comments before it started in anticipation of freebird😈
Im sorry but it doesnt beat out on the turning away by Pink Ffloyd
Free people solo is better😉
gold standard??? its just Em pentatonic correct me if im wrong
@@DG-rd8zh The pentatonic "has the best notes" correct me if I'm wrong, there's the 6 note scale, and the 7 note scale, but none rock like the pentatonic. Just my humble opinion. But yeah, I love the blues scale and the diatonic scale too, and the chromatic is a piece of work too just a little harder to deal with. Your comment is spot on it's mostly Em pentatonic on the Free Bird solo.
People aren’t ready to hear this but whoever did the solo for goofy goober rock deserves to be on here.

40 years later, I still get chills listening to Comfortably Numb. Great pick!
Other amazing solos: hotel california, the trooper, hallowed be thy name, master of puppets (starting with the slow harmonized part), another brick in the wall and if you include short but emotional solos, "I could have lied" by is perhaps the most emotional solo I've ever heard despite it being so short, it definitely is a strong part of that album and an honest flush of emotions for John Frusciante
Listen to comfortably numb, then fleetwood macs I'm so afraid live version. Now you know where floyd got his inspiration.
Pink Floyd is a band of one man, David Gilmour, its first songs are really poor, until the song "Echoes", all its songs are quiet songs, there is no rhythmic song
They don't have power, like Matlica has for example.
Also they don't have a good singer.
So overrated
@@sm1le396 haha so edgy.
Disliked because that annoying woman keeps talking when I want to hear the solos!!! grrrr
hahaha so true
exactly! and that voice is annoying ... :s
Hotel California has in my opinion the best guitar solo

+Leonardo cook me too!!!
Comfortably numb sounds like the guitar is crying. It’s absolutely beautiful and deserves its place
One vote about the missing solos: Mark Knopfler in Sultans of Swing, David Gilmour in Division Bell, Jethro Tull's Martin Barre in We used to know (as a predecessor and obvious inspiration of Hotel California) and Wishbone Ash's Vallediction.
And for sure metal bands fans would add even more.
Tipton & Downing - Painkiller
Andy La Rock - Sleepless Nights
Wolf Hoffmann - Head Over Heels
Angus Young - Touch Too Much
Murray & Smith - The Trooper
1. Pink Floyd - Confortably Numb
2. Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
Yep can’t believe this list hasn’t got any MK solo
These are incomparable my friend.
Agree
Agreed, i had hoped that Sultans of Swing would be here. But I also feel like the solo in the final countdown by Europe is missing
Stairway and comfortably numb should always be number 1 and 2
How can you have a greatest guitar solo’s without Eddie Van Halen!!! Come on man
Exactly my thoughts! Where is van halen beat it solo
beat it solo but also the eruption solo i mean aint nothing gonna top that
Ice cream man is pretty underestimated but my favorite is probably take your whiskey home
@@chrisboogerd3031 they said no instrumentals
Pretty easy, listing is for guitar solos not guitar wanks. Point of the guitar solo is music not showing how fast your fingers are
Metallica and Van Halen should be on this list.. also regarding David Gilmore, I think ‘On The Turning Away’ guitar solo was even better than Comfortably Numb. Just my opinion 👌
@Puppet Master "We've left out the instrumentals" - At the beginning of the video.
I say Eruption from Eddie van Halen is the greatest solo ever
There's technical excellence and there's solos that just speak to you. Sometimes the two come together and it's magic.
Yes! EVH 🙌
I can't believe this hasn't received any likes yet. @@tonyraney4167
music is a language of emotions, and mood. this is not a phrase, it is a fact. speed and virtuosity alone is something a robot can learn in notime. there are players who play braindead scales and arpeggios with insane speed. wow. and what does it sound like? it reminds me of 1000 cockroaches running around looking for food.
Comfortably Numb deserves to be up there. That solo is so powerful in its own way. It’s got this feeling to it. Most guitar players cannot bend music together like that. The guy has a real good ear for sound and music.
Honestly the solo from Dogs is one of the best pink Floyd solos
Yeah! Mr. Gilmore is the real slowhand.
And it's not? Thanks to tell, save me some minutes of life.

Mark knopfler's guitar solo at the end of dire straits' Sultans Of Swing - Alchemy Live is the best one ever

The vibrant melodies of the 1980s continue to echo through time, painting a vivid portrait of an era where music thrived, and iconic figures emerged as beacons of creativity and innovation.
Eddie Van Halen, a virtuoso of the guitar, didn't just strum strings; he orchestrated a symphony of rock melodies that ignited passion and energy. His pioneering "tapping" technique wasn't merely a skill; it was a seismic shift in the realm of guitar playing, a revolution that resonates through the corridors of rock history.
Prince, the enigmatic maestro, defied musical norms, blending genres to craft a sonic universe that transcended boundaries. His songs weren't just compositions; they were anthems of freedom, calling out to a generation hungry for musical exploration and expression.
David Bowie, the ever-evolving artistic luminary, didn't just change personas; he embodied artistic liberation. Each character he created wasn’t just a costume; it was a testament to his boundless creativity and his ability to redefine the very essence of artistic expression.
George Michael, with his soulful voice and emotionally resonant lyrics, crafted melodies that served as a heartbeat for an entire era. His tunes weren't just melodies; they were emotional journeys, capturing the essence of love, heartache, and the human experience.
Elton John, the piano virtuoso, didn’t just play keys; he painted emotional landscapes with every chord. His ballads weren't just songs; they were emotive journeys, weaving tales of love, loss, and resilience that resonated with audiences across generations.
Tina Turner's electrifying stage presence wasn't just a performance; it was an anthem of empowerment and strength. Her music wasn't just sound; it was a rallying cry, inspiring listeners to embrace their inner power and resilience.
Lionel Richie, the balladeer extraordinaire, crafted tunes that echoed universal emotions. His melodies weren't just compositions; they were emotional soundscapes, capturing the essence of human connections and heartfelt emotions.
These '80s icons weren’t just musical luminaries; they were pioneers who sculpted a sonic landscape that transcended time. Their influence isn't merely confined to the past; it reverberates through the present, guiding and inspiring artists in their quest for musical excellence and emotional resonance.
Their impact extended beyond their melodies, shaping fashion, culture, and societal norms. Prince's flamboyant style challenged gender norms, while David Bowie's shape-shifting personas sparked conversations about identity and self-expression. These artists weren’t just musicians; they were cultural catalysts, trailblazing paths that inspired generations beyond their time.
The '80s, a decade infused with exuberance and innovation, birthed an era of music that didn't just entertain but also moved souls. Each chord struck a chord within the hearts of listeners, resonating with emotions and experiences that formed the very fabric of their lives.
Their influence spanned genres, transcending the limitations of labels. Prince’s fusion of funk and rock, David Bowie’s genre-defying experimentation, and George Michael’s heartfelt ballads-all contributed to a musical landscape rich in diversity and depth.
As the '80s icons graced stages and airwaves, their performances weren't just concerts; they were experiences-an emotional journey through sonic landscapes that left an indelible imprint on the memories of those fortunate enough to witness them.
Their legacy endures not just in the music but in the emotions evoked by their melodies. The longing for an era where music wasn’t just an auditory experience but a profound emotional journey remains palpable. These icons, with their artistry and innovation, etched themselves into the annals of music history, leaving a timeless legacy that continues to inspire and resonate with music lovers across generations.
Comfortably Numb well deserved that number spot, brilliant musician that David Gilmour..
Jones
Jude Matthew dragonforce through the fire and flames did
I love the solo, don't get me wrong, but I'm sure there are better solos. Some of the solos below it in the list appeared nicer to me than the numb solo but that's just my opinion.
I agree!! Gilmour rarely gets recognized for his brilliant playing, especially on Comfortably Numb. Glad to see this at the top spot for once. The 1994 live Pulse performance of Comfortable Numb at Earl's Court may be the best ever performed by the band.
I love Gilmour, but there is no arguing with that!
Comfortably Numb isn't the hardest solo (only hard on the skin on your fingers, those bends, woof), but it is the most perfect solo. It is absolutely everything it needs to be with nothing more or less. Pure emotion and chills for the entire solo.
I agree. And there is another overlooked gilmour solo on song High Hopes. Pure emotion
Luka Svetina yes high hopes is amazing😍😍😍😍❤️🎸
Gilmour tells stories.
Emotion
Same can be said for stairway to heaven.
Some of the best guitar duo solos or by the band Kix Dave and switch back and forth underrated one of the best guitar bands ever kix!!!!!
Brian May’s solos are always the bests
I still get chills from One
Yah like were the hell is metallica up in this bitch!
100% agree with the number one spot! Especially David Gilmour live in Pompeii comfortably numb that’s my favourite guitar solo of all time!
I agree with #1 and #2. "Comfortably Numb" and "Stairway to Heaven" both have iconic guitar solos💯. But that's about all I agree with on this list lol. Eric Clapton at #9 is absurd! Should have been at least top 5. And as much as I love Slash and Guns and Roses, #3 is too high for them in my opinion (higher than Hendrix? Clapton? Or Van Halen? No way!). And speaking of Van Halen... How was there no Eddie Van Halen on this list?? Not even in the top 10??🤦🏼🤦🏼
No one should be higher than Hendrix.
My top 15:
1. Comfotrably Numb - David Gilmour
2. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Eric Clapton
3. Transdermal Celebration - Dean Ween
4. All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond - David Gilmour
6. Fifth of Firth - Steve Hacket
7. Paranoid Android - Johnny Greenwood
8. Fade to Black - Kirk Hammet
9. Time - David Gilmour
10. Only in Dreams - Rivers Cuomo
11. Stairway to Heaven - Jimmy Page
12. Something - George Harrison
13. Voodoo Chile(Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix
14. Dogs - David Gilmour
15. St. Elmos Fire - Robert Fripp
Alchemy live Sultans of Swings Mark Knopfler ! nb 1 in my book.

At number 2 I thought to myself that if Comfortably Numb isn't number one I'll dislike the vid, but it showed up. Hahaa
Bro you dont know any shit about rock.
pink floyd is defenitly one of the best rock bands ever
I just though if there's no Pink Floyd on the list then i'm gonna dislike
There's at least 20 more guitarists and solo's that deserve to be in the top 10, but I think we can all agree that the lack of amazing guitar solo's is why most of modern day music has no soul.
Dioooooos demasiadas obras de Arteeeee...imposible escojer...❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Jimmy Page and David Gilmour both have a special place in my heart...love them to bits! The amount of emotions I feel whenever I listen to them is indescribable. Long live Zeppelin,Long live Floyd💜
You mean all the songs Page plagarized? Good player, not original.
Bill M that's like saying every piano player is plagiarizing the first person to have ever played the piano
Clockwork Girl Fucking oath! I agree 100% There's many others I also love but you're right. Their mesmerising riffs & solos touch the soul & can bring a tear to the eye of this Rock & Metal loving man.
Bill M what he did was took that same rhythm, added some spice to it, and made it rock and roll appropriate and worthy. Not a 100% stealer
Snailier- Gaming 2 no Zeppelin stole lyrics and music and gave zero credit to the original artists. Do the research.
My favorite is Sultans of Swing solo live version on Alchemy, from Dire Straits

Dire Straits - Sultans of swing has my favorite one
Awesome guitar solo.
I’m not even a huge fan of Pink Floyd. But that solo from comfortably numb is still epic!
But bohemian rhapsody is my personal number 1.
Good thing they put Jimi Hendrix in the list
Miguel Chavarin It could be a Top 10 list about azerbadjanian overtone singing and the first two places would still go to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix ...
Amen
Lance Alejo
For me is Randy amazing love him.
RIP Randy
I feel Randy is the best among all
David Gilmour’s solo is the best one. It’s on a different level in so many ways. Love the 2017 Pompeii one.
My favourite of David is in Gdansk (Poland) 2006. It's greatest of all times.
But I find that Ritchie Blackmore is underrated...and where is Eddie VAN Halen ????
MARK KNOPFLER number 1
SULTANS OF SWING!
Professionally I don't know what is considered a masterpiece but I listen to a lot of old music and when it comes to guitar plays there is no other song that has made me feel it so much as "The Night Sky" by Mostly Autumn
Mark knofler? Sultans of swing
+Westernstar4964 The best of all time.Spot on.
+Jordie575 And it's one of the greatest rock tunes with all that rich harmony and bass supporting the guitar solo.
+Westernstar4964 Phil Emmanuel (Tommy's older brother) has been doing some great live extended versions of several Dire Straits songs for several years now. If only he would make an album of them.
As professional musician, I find this k I nd of amusing, as folks like Jimi cannot be compared to guys who play don't improv as much.
+Westernstar4964
lets not forget the Tunnel of Love ones :D
There are some exceptional solos and live versions I would add to the list:
Prince - While my Guitar Gently Weeps (Hall of Fame).
Gary Moore - Still got the Blues.
Queen - Innuendo.
David Gilmour - Comfortably Numb (Live in Pompeii).
Eric Clapton - Layla (Live Aid).
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (Live).
Pink Floyd - Time.
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
David Gilmour - High Hopes (Live in Pompeii).
Prince - Purple Rain (Live & the Super Bowl show).
Queen - Hammer to Fall (Live Aid).
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road.
You could make this top list just of pink floyd songs but they said its only limited to one song per band. But yeah all of these songs you listed are amazing especially hammer to fall at the liveaid concert with the eyoo at the beginning and Gilmours guitar solos at the Pompeii concert (you forgot Sorrow)
KingofSchubi Yeah, Coming Back to Life could also be there and I’ve completely forgotten to add any Jimi Hendrix.
Apart the songs you mentioned about Queen, I think the best solo of the band is that one of Brighton Rock, the studio version and the solo at Wembley
What about Stevie Ray Vaughn?
It doesn't say rock it says best of all time!
This list nailed it, especially #1 and 2.
Mr. Crowley has probably my top 2 favorite solos EVER, and they're somehow even better live!
Randy Rhodes was freaking amazing. His work with Quiet Riot and then Ozzy was awesome. The cuts on his 12 string guitar for "Dee" was incredibly complex. That young man died way too soon. RIP R.R.
I can’t believe. There isn’t live tapes. Wtf. Led Zeppelin has over 360 concerts boots . Wtf. Nobody was smart enough to tape Randy it’s a crime. Ozzy should be. Jailed. But I did. Hear tidbit Bob Dailey has 8 hours. Of. Studio stuff
I agree with number 1.
Prince doesn't get the respect he deserves as a guitarist, he has many great guitar solos, but his "While my Guitar gently weeps" solo is nothing short of amazing! Prince is definitely one of those underrated guitarist and should be put in the legendary guitarist category!
I agree, that solo is godly
He is the best of all
I think his singing and song writing over shadows of how good of a guitar player he is, imo he's definitely in top 10 of all time.
His throwaway licks are fucking astounding.
💯
idc how overplayed stairway is its absolutely perfect in my opinion
glad to see pf and queen here too
Clapton's two solos on Crossroads on "Wheels of Fire" are a milestone for me. There may have been great electric guitar solos done before then. But this relatively short song recorded live introduced the style to which all later rock guitarists owe a debt. Searing tone, crystal-clear notes, speed where necessary and proof that a solo doesn't have to be long to be memorable. Sitting On Top of the World" from "Goodbye" is an equally-good studio recorded song that proves the same thing.
Can't believe I'm not on this list.

Absolutely. I just watched that solo again today. Prince is way under rated for his guitar skills
Holy crap, how was that not mentioned? im stunned. My world philosophy just took a major gut punch.
He demonstrated that a guitar can indeed weep.
I prefer the original version by George Harrison
kam kamelovic sorry to say this but the main electric guitar is played by Eric Clapton

I'm so happy comfortably numb was number one. The 1994 live pulse version was the best.
Daniel Charles yaa that thing everyone should watch it once in their life, the best solo performance I've ever seen
That solo inspired me to really learn the guitar
That one is very good but I do believe David Gilmore live at Pompeii was slightly better
I scrolled down for this comment. While solo preferences are subjective, the Pulse Comfortably Numb is uncontested for me. Another one that's great for me is Alvin Lee: The Bluest Blues.
Darn - no Eddie Van Halen - such a legend who paved the way for some of the coolest modern rock and roll solo's and rifts of all time. Then again I am sure the world could easily add another 20 candidates for the greatest solos of all time. Boston, Scorpions, AC/DC, Dire Straits, Blue Oyster Cult, ZZ Top, Metallica, and oh my gosh so many more.
And megadeth, I get chills listening to some of their solos
FR
I knew David Gilmore had to be in there, but wasn't expecting him to be number one. Just listening to his work is inspiring for me. Having Brian May in the list is a given, He's in pretty every list I've listened too, and there's been quite a few, He's an amazing guitarist. Yeah I'm a huge Pink Floyd & Queen fan, But I do like a good guitar solo.
This top its incomplete without van halen
And first songs are mediocre..
Alexandros Van halen is velocity and techniques, not musicality.
Alex Quaas WHAT?!?? It could be argued that not another band in R&R history has such an ability to create a feel good, party time vibe inside the heads of 3 thousand audience members. Sure, Eddie shreds.. but that feeling thing is ALL musicality.
Alex Quaas Amen to that. Pure boredom. Set guitaring back ten years.
There are 2 other videos
Eddie Van Halen on "Beat it", Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing, Led Zeppelin "Dazed and Confused".
George M beat it’s solo is trash. Eruption is known as the best solo of all time by every fellow guitarist I know
Eruption is a sodden, atonal, shite, mish-mash of random cacophony Ed never thought worthy of recording. Its pretty much a medley of every tap happy solo Ed ever came up with, its total garbage
Ed's blistering solo on "Hot For Teacher" is better.

The final solo of Comfortably Numb on P.U.L.S.E is pure magic (especially the uncut version), it's spectacular in every way I can think of from from its tone to the emotions it conveys to the way it fits into the song perfectly and doesn't sound like he's just noodling away to fill time like you hear so many other guitarists do.
I remember seeing P.U.L.S.E broadcast on a PBS station during one of their bi-monthly beg-a-thons and hearing that solo made me go out and buy P.U.L.S.E the next day on my way to work.
definitely agree!! and I also think the PULSE is the greatest concert of all time (although is was called the Division Bell tour) - and it includes the only pro video of the band doing Dark Side of the Moon - a DVD to cherish

I would love it even more they would re-release it complete and uncut, there's about 5 minutes of stuff cut out including forty seconds of the solo from Comfortably Numb a minute or so of the solo from Sorrow and one minute from Run Like Hell.

They're all brilliant but there are some that deserve a mention like Jeff Beck and others
There are several great solos from Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. Listen to Going Home and you will rate him higher than a few on this list. He was known as "the fastest guitarist in the west). He had "lighting fast fingers".
If you want to see lightning fast fingers check out Ayu Gusfanz. She (yes, she) is still young too. "Kamulyan" is a good one to look at. As fast as she plays in the first section, she doubles the speed in the reprise. I used to love Ten Years After, too. I'd love to change the world...

The old string-bender is the best. He doesn't play a guitar, he makes it sing ♥
Thank you!!! Soo many greats! Gotta go with Jimmy!
Most chilled rockers of all time: David Gilmour and Ritchie Blackmoor.
Also Slash
I feel like spending 10 years hanging out with Axl Rose could make even the most chill person loose their cool.
que onda con la que te lo mando por de que no te de un amigo 5 de que
What the f,,,k are u talking about
nvm you won't get it anyway
David Gilmour's Comfortably Numb guitar solo will forever and always give me goosebumps.
That solo always speak to my soul!
The 94 Concert at Earl's Court is the best version hands down.At his pinnacle.
the Pulse show - I own it on blu-ray and play it in my home theater and it just shreds my entire soul every. single. time. Absolutely breathtaking.@@captinbeyond
Yes, that's some good solos!!
Blessed to be a Bay Area high school sophomore at the beginning of the Haight Ashbury/S.F. music scene. Saw a show virtually every week between 1965 and 1970. Have seen all of these bands multiple times in their Hayday. I doubted we would agree. I am pleasantly surprised and shocked that 7 of your picks would have been on my list. (though I prefer Jimmy Page's solo on Since I've Been Loving You). My three substitutes would have been: one of many choices from Pete Townsend, Steely Dan, and Duane Allman. (Maybe Frampton). Overall, a commendable, thoughtful list from a long-term rocker who is still current.
Brian May - Don't stop me now solo is short but epic
Some of May's best work came from the "Sheer Heart Attack" album...
His solo in Hammer to fall is undereated
That song itself is giving you the vibe to not to stop him even without listening to the lyric.
Yes
Killer Queen Is epic
I have been listening to Comfortably numb since last 4 years and still i consider it the best solo ever
I know 2 led zeppelin solos on the list is a little excessive, but the since I've been loving you solo really hit the mark for me and is my personal number 1. Great list though!
2016 live in Pompeii comfortably numb needs to be put on here for number 1/2
Sultans of swing
Dire straits
Alchemy live
1983
Best live solo of all time.
Agreed
Thanks mate, you did it for me. And who the f* is Slash? I mean come on Mojo!
Slash was the guitarist for Guns N Roses...
Better than any of those. Yeah. And unique.
Comfortably Numb, Stairway to Heaven and Sultans of Swing are in my opinions the three greatest guitar solos of all-time (I'd put them in that order or maybe swap Sultans and Stairway because come on, it's COMFORTABLY NUMB). So sad Sultans of Swing wasn't mentioned.
This being said, and while I'm not a big Guns N' Roses fan, the solos in November Rain and especially in Sweet Child O'Mine are absolutely wonderful.
Faltou Mark Knopfler - Swultans of Swing.

An Album of the best of the top 25 greatest players would be a money maker but I doubt the Artists would agree to how much they would receive for their work to produce such a piece!
100% Agree with number one
