Other amazing solos: hotel california, the trooper, hallowed be thy name, master of puppets (starting with the slow harmonized part), another brick in the wall and if you include short but emotional solos, "I could have lied" by is perhaps the most emotional solo I've ever heard despite it being so short, it definitely is a strong part of that album and an honest flush of emotions for John Frusciante

Comfortably Numb deserves to be up there. That solo is so powerful in its own way. It’s got this feeling to it. Most guitar players cannot bend music together like that. The guy has a real good ear for sound and music.
Agreed, wholeheartedly. It’s not super slick, real fast or particularly difficult, but it almost seems as if Gilmour’s soul merges with his guitar and reaches in and grab places inside you that few solos can. It’s not only musically appealing, it’s emotionally moving.

A hidden Champion is on an WASP record with the track "Golghota" by Douglas Blair playing the lead guitar. Thank you man, everytime I play Airguitar, fantastic Solo, cheer's from Germany 🍺🤘
It's way over rated including all of Queesn's music. The guitar solo is very short and he never nails it live like the studio version.Bands shouldn't get voted in on sympathy factor.
There are some exceptional solos and live versions I would add to the list: Prince - While my Guitar Gently Weeps (Hall of Fame). Gary Moore - Still got the Blues. Queen - Innuendo. David Gilmour - Comfortably Numb (Live in Pompeii). Eric Clapton - Layla (Live Aid). Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (Live). Pink Floyd - Time. Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing David Gilmour - High Hopes (Live in Pompeii). Prince - Purple Rain (Live & the Super Bowl show). Queen - Hammer to Fall (Live Aid). Dire Straits - Telegraph Road.
You could make this top list just of pink floyd songs but they said its only limited to one song per band. But yeah all of these songs you listed are amazing especially hammer to fall at the liveaid concert with the eyoo at the beginning and Gilmours guitar solos at the Pompeii concert (you forgot Sorrow)
Prince doesn't get the respect he deserves as a guitarist, he has many great guitar solos, but his "While my Guitar gently weeps" solo is nothing short of amazing! Prince is definitely one of those underrated guitarist and should be put in the legendary guitarist category!
+Westernstar4964 Phil Emmanuel (Tommy's older brother) has been doing some great live extended versions of several Dire Straits songs for several years now. If only he would make an album of them.
Miguel Chavarin It could be a Top 10 list about azerbadjanian overtone singing and the first two places would still go to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix ...
Saw Randy Rhodes in Ozzy's homecoming at Birmingham Odeon 1980. Everyone left the stage, leaving Randy under a single green spotlight. It was a wild crowd but everyone stood open mouthed in awe at what they saw. Just showed how much respect Ozzy had for him. Unfortunately I I don't think it was recorded and you will have to take my word for it. For 10 minutes the only thing in the universe that mattered to the thousands in the arena was a green light, a electric guitar and Mr Rhodes making incredible music. It brought tears to my eyes and remains one of my most vivid memories. My favourite solo is by ULI Roth in We'll burn the sky on the Tokyo Tapes album, the sheer emotion in his playing makes every hair on my skin stand on end. But music is not a competition, it's an art form. It boils down to individual tastes and its worth remembering that if everyone liked the same sounds, music would become incredibly boring.

The final solo of Comfortably Numb on P.U.L.S.E is pure magic (especially the uncut version), it's spectacular in every way I can think of from from its tone to the emotions it conveys to the way it fits into the song perfectly and doesn't sound like he's just noodling away to fill time like you hear so many other guitarists do. I remember seeing P.U.L.S.E broadcast on a PBS station during one of their bi-monthly beg-a-thons and hearing that solo made me go out and buy P.U.L.S.E the next day on my way to work.

The vibrant melodies of the 1980s continue to echo through time, painting a vivid portrait of an era where music thrived, and iconic figures emerged as beacons of creativity and innovation. Eddie Van Halen, a virtuoso of the guitar, didn't just strum strings; he orchestrated a symphony of rock melodies that ignited passion and energy. His pioneering "tapping" technique wasn't merely a skill; it was a seismic shift in the realm of guitar playing, a revolution that resonates through the corridors of rock history. Prince, the enigmatic maestro, defied musical norms, blending genres to craft a sonic universe that transcended boundaries. His songs weren't just compositions; they were anthems of freedom, calling out to a generation hungry for musical exploration and expression. David Bowie, the ever-evolving artistic luminary, didn't just change personas; he embodied artistic liberation. Each character he created wasn’t just a costume; it was a testament to his boundless creativity and his ability to redefine the very essence of artistic expression. George Michael, with his soulful voice and emotionally resonant lyrics, crafted melodies that served as a heartbeat for an entire era. His tunes weren't just melodies; they were emotional journeys, capturing the essence of love, heartache, and the human experience. Elton John, the piano virtuoso, didn’t just play keys; he painted emotional landscapes with every chord. His ballads weren't just songs; they were emotive journeys, weaving tales of love, loss, and resilience that resonated with audiences across generations. Tina Turner's electrifying stage presence wasn't just a performance; it was an anthem of empowerment and strength. Her music wasn't just sound; it was a rallying cry, inspiring listeners to embrace their inner power and resilience. Lionel Richie, the balladeer extraordinaire, crafted tunes that echoed universal emotions. His melodies weren't just compositions; they were emotional soundscapes, capturing the essence of human connections and heartfelt emotions. These '80s icons weren’t just musical luminaries; they were pioneers who sculpted a sonic landscape that transcended time. Their influence isn't merely confined to the past; it reverberates through the present, guiding and inspiring artists in their quest for musical excellence and emotional resonance. Their impact extended beyond their melodies, shaping fashion, culture, and societal norms. Prince's flamboyant style challenged gender norms, while David Bowie's shape-shifting personas sparked conversations about identity and self-expression. These artists weren’t just musicians; they were cultural catalysts, trailblazing paths that inspired generations beyond their time. The '80s, a decade infused with exuberance and innovation, birthed an era of music that didn't just entertain but also moved souls. Each chord struck a chord within the hearts of listeners, resonating with emotions and experiences that formed the very fabric of their lives. Their influence spanned genres, transcending the limitations of labels. Prince’s fusion of funk and rock, David Bowie’s genre-defying experimentation, and George Michael’s heartfelt ballads-all contributed to a musical landscape rich in diversity and depth. As the '80s icons graced stages and airwaves, their performances weren't just concerts; they were experiences-an emotional journey through sonic landscapes that left an indelible imprint on the memories of those fortunate enough to witness them. Their legacy endures not just in the music but in the emotions evoked by their melodies. The longing for an era where music wasn’t just an auditory experience but a profound emotional journey remains palpable. These icons, with their artistry and innovation, etched themselves into the annals of music history, leaving a timeless legacy that continues to inspire and resonate with music lovers across generations.
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Ritchie Blackmore, David Gilmore, Prince, Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Joe Bonamassa, Santana. Slash, Brian May and Angus Young. There can be no listing, the’re all good and have their own stylle. This just about covers the top under guitarists to my opinion. Sorry i forgot Marc Knopfler.

There are several great solos from Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. Listen to Going Home and you will rate him higher than a few on this list. He was known as "the fastest guitarist in the west). He had "lighting fast fingers".
If you want to see lightning fast fingers check out Ayu Gusfanz. She (yes, she) is still young too. "Kamulyan" is a good one to look at. As fast as she plays in the first section, she doubles the speed in the reprise. I used to love Ten Years After, too. I'd love to change the world...
@@josetomasnahum5101 true, but it's more of an intro than a standalone song. It never gets played by itself, always as a lead in. Plus, of course, the myriad of OTHER massive guitar solos from EVH. You know, possibly the greatest (certainly top 3) guitarist in hard rock history.

Ritchie Blackmore, the greatest guitarist of all time. So many great solos with Deep Purple and Rainbow. Strangely usually ignored in these kind of lists. And the greatest guitar solo of all time is performed by Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple's Child in time.
I think your forgetting Jimi Hendrix. Could play with his teeth. was not strictly left-handed. Although he played his right-handed guitar upside down, and used his left hand to throw, comb his hair and hold cigarettes,
Any top 10 list of greatest Guitar solos and doesn't have at least one Stevie Ray Vaughn riff is to be ignored. Except Comfortably Numb - you got that one right.

Holy crap, how was that not mentioned? im stunned. My world philosophy just took a major gut punch.
He demonstrated that a guitar can indeed weep.
I prefer the original version by George Harrison
kam kamelovic sorry to say this but the main electric guitar is played by Eric Clapton
Which is also the solo
Oh my god everyone is so butt hurt that their favorite solos weren't on the list. Get over it this is someone else's opinion
this list solos is crap, no Van Halen, no Led Zeppelin.
+Lexius Castro led zeppelin #2
Jimmy Page is a member of Led Zeppelin.
Feel like a dick?
my favorite solo was number 1 :)
+Tech Maestro mine was #2 but #1 is also really good.
Thumbs up if she should talk less in every video.
It would be so much better if you played the clips without talking through them.
Excuse me? Did she just say it's okay to hate Stairway to Heaven?!?!
... wait what
yes
i love stairway to heaven but i hate plant's vocals
SUPPORTERS SAY WHAT ...... is unfair . HE IS THE NUMBER 1 YESTERDAY, TODAY AND ALWAYS
yes, that shit was stolen music anyway. fuck that
In my opinion, Slash's best solo is definitely the one from November rain.... No doubts.
🙌🙌🙌 yes hes amazing
november rain is amazinggg :'))
November Rain is so good.
A masterpiece of a song and solo but even close to comfortably numb
va nesi ya but nowhere near their best song or solo or the best solo
Agree with number one full heartily. Can not express enough how the Comfortably Numb solo somehow transcends normal guitar solos. It's a life changing 2 minutes of music
SO OVERRATED
Comfortably Numb das zweite Solo bereitet einem nach Jahrzehnten immer noch Gänsehaut
@@erwinwurm8898 nein
@@sm1le396you're probably too musically uneducated to understand how good that solo is.
that is ridiculous
A hidden Champion is on an WASP record with the track "Golghota" by Douglas Blair playing the lead guitar. Thank you man, everytime I play Airguitar, fantastic Solo, cheer's from Germany 🍺🤘
I am pretty sure a lot of the people who said bohemian Rhapsody should be number 1 just saw the film recenty.....
I would put "Bohemian Rhapsody" at #1, and I still haven't seen the movie. It's just so well constructed.
Lmao yeah. It's a great solo, but definitely not #1.
It's way over rated including all of Queesn's music. The guitar solo is very short and he never nails it live like the studio version.Bands shouldn't get voted in on sympathy factor.
They’re good but way overrated
When it comes to guitar solos queen is definitely not up there
David Gilmour. Master Legend God. Only guitar solo that brings me to tears. That haunting solo goes straight to the heart without mercy.
There are some exceptional solos and live versions I would add to the list:
Prince - While my Guitar Gently Weeps (Hall of Fame).
Gary Moore - Still got the Blues.
Queen - Innuendo.
David Gilmour - Comfortably Numb (Live in Pompeii).
Eric Clapton - Layla (Live Aid).
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (Live).
Pink Floyd - Time.
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
David Gilmour - High Hopes (Live in Pompeii).
KingofSchubi Yeah, Coming Back to Life could also be there and I’ve completely forgotten to add any Jimi Hendrix.
Apart the songs you mentioned about Queen, I think the best solo of the band is that one of Brighton Rock, the studio version and the solo at Wembley
What about Stevie Ray Vaughn?
It doesn't say rock it says best of all time!
I still get chills from One
Yah like were the hell is metallica up in this bitch!
Prince doesn't get the respect he deserves as a guitarist, he has many great guitar solos, but his "While my Guitar gently weeps" solo is nothing short of amazing! Prince is definitely one of those underrated guitarist and should be put in the legendary guitarist category!
I agree, that solo is godly
He is the best of all
I think his singing and song writing over shadows of how good of a guitar player he is, imo he's definitely in top 10 of all time.
His throwaway licks are fucking astounding.
💯
Mark knofler? Sultans of swing
+Westernstar4964 The best of all time.Spot on.
+Jordie575 And it's one of the greatest rock tunes with all that rich harmony and bass supporting the guitar solo.
+Westernstar4964 Phil Emmanuel (Tommy's older brother) has been doing some great live extended versions of several Dire Straits songs for several years now. If only he would make an album of them.
As professional musician, I find this k I nd of amusing, as folks like Jimi cannot be compared to guys who play don't improv as much.
+Westernstar4964
lets not forget the Tunnel of Love ones :D
Leaving out instrumentals from such as Vai and Satriani makes your list superfluous
Good thing they put Jimi Hendrix in the list
Miguel Chavarin It could be a Top 10 list about azerbadjanian overtone singing and the first two places would still go to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix ...
Amen
Lance Alejo
The only one who could have played just as good blind.
I have been listening to Comfortably numb since last 4 years and still i consider it the best solo ever
Brian May - Don't stop me now solo is short but epic
Some of May's best work came from the "Sheer Heart Attack" album...
His solo in Hammer to fall is undereated
That song itself is giving you the vibe to not to stop him even without listening to the lyric.
Yes
Killer Queen Is epic
I enjoyed all top 10 guitar solos I play AIR
GUITAR to all 10 you
Lifted my spirits THANK YOU,!! 😅
Since when is it ‘fashionable’ to hate stairway heaven? Wtf.
since it’s played 50 times a day in every guitar store
The Spirit Molecule I never said it was zeppelin’s fault. I just explained why ppl hate it
@@sergeantslowpoke1550 I hate that song never in all my 30 years of playing have ever I wanted to know it.Every guitar ive met wants to play it or no it and radio station have played tons over the years and alot and guitar stores guys will sit and mess when it for hours ugh
Chris Welch my point
It's the best song ever written
The final solo of Comfortably Numb on P.U.L.S.E is pure magic (especially the uncut version), it's spectacular in every way I can think of from from its tone to the emotions it conveys to the way it fits into the song perfectly and doesn't sound like he's just noodling away to fill time like you hear so many other guitarists do.
I remember seeing P.U.L.S.E broadcast on a PBS station during one of their bi-monthly beg-a-thons and hearing that solo made me go out and buy P.U.L.S.E the next day on my way to work.
definitely agree!! and I also think the PULSE is the greatest concert of all time (although is was called the Division Bell tour) - and it includes the only pro video of the band doing Dark Side of the Moon - a DVD to cherish
phishfearme2
I would love it even more they would re-release it complete and uncut, there's about 5 minutes of stuff cut out including forty seconds of the solo from Comfortably Numb a minute or so of the solo from Sorrow and one minute from Run Like Hell.
You are right!
I totally agree!!!
concordo em grau, genero e estilo simplesmente fantastico David gilmor , solando confortably nunb.
John Petricci, Synyster gates, Alexi laiho, Michael Paget, Jacky Vincent, Angel Vivaldi, Dimebag Darrell? many more missing tho

yeah Gary Moore is best solo guitarist. Only him can make guitar is "crying"
Yes. Gilmour & his Black Strat in Comfortably Numb is at the top of my list. Period.
thumbs up, if u thought "metallica- ONE", dire straits- "SULTANS OF SWING" missed the list
Sultans of swing should have been on there. Its indelible.
+sandeep natikar i wouldnt have said one, its a great solo. but i far prefer hetfields master of puppets solo to one
One by Metallica is in their best metal solos
+sandeep natikar
Absolutely! The Solo that Mark plays on the "Alchemy Live" double Album is the pure awesomeness!
+sandeep natikar Holy Wars...The Punishment Due by Megadeth. Check it out. it has 5 solos in it.
Richie, your solo is very amazing, №1(the very bestest guitar's solo in this world)!
Mark Knopfler, Dire Strait Sultan of Swing.

@AVERY HUEBEL so sultan of swing isn't iconic ? The alchemy live was probably one of the best there was
ANGUS YOUNG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tunnel of love.... one of the Mark Knopfler best song
For me is Randy amazing love him.
RIP Randy
I feel Randy is the best among all
I'm so happy comfortably numb was number one. The 1994 live pulse version was the best.
Daniel Charles yaa that thing everyone should watch it once in their life, the best solo performance I've ever seen
That solo inspired me to really learn the guitar
That one is very good but I do believe David Gilmore live at Pompeii was slightly better
I scrolled down for this comment. While solo preferences are subjective, the Pulse Comfortably Numb is uncontested for me. Another one that's great for me is Alvin Lee: The Bluest Blues.
First time ever me and millions like me agreed with your no.1 and 2 ....pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin ❤️ Today tomorrow forever
David Gilmour's Comfortably Numb guitar solo will forever and always give me goosebumps.
That solo always speak to my soul!
The 94 Concert at Earl's Court is the best version hands down.At his pinnacle.
the Pulse show - I own it on blu-ray and play it in my home theater and it just shreds my entire soul every. single. time. Absolutely breathtaking.@@captinbeyond
Where's sultan of swing? Dire straits?
Idk. They probably had a stick up their ass making this video.
talented but maybe to soft for this list
Top ten guitar solos doesn't state top ten hard rock solos

Good call… make way for any of these others, to include this Mark Knopfler classic
Also “Time” by Pink Floyd

Some of the best guitar duo solos or by the band Kix Dave and switch back and forth underrated one of the best guitar bands ever kix!!!!!
How is Eddie Van Halen not on the list? A list of the greatest guitar solos is not complete without Eddie Van Halen.
Not watching the video after reading this lol.
He was more of a show boat imo. He was more iconic than good. I prefer Page, Gilmour and Angus Young. They might not be the best shredder out there but their music was fantastic

Mark Knoplfer - Sultan of Swing (alchemy live)
THANK YOU!
yeahhh
So glad to see people saying this I agree!
YEAHHHHHHHHH
Fuck yeah!
I agree with number 1.
Free bird will always be my personal favourite solo of all time
Eddie Van Halen- Eruption should've been somewhere on the list!
Also the Tornado of Souls solo
Yes!! How is Eddie not in there?
She said no instrumentals
@@josetomasnahum5101 true, but it's more of an intro than a standalone song. It never gets played by itself, always as a lead in.
Plus, of course, the myriad of OTHER massive guitar solos from EVH. You know, possibly the greatest (certainly top 3) guitarist in hard rock history.
Erik Anybody i agree with you, but i thinks that everybody understood what she meant
The solo in Rock You Like a Hurricane is criminally underrated.
This.
No one like you as well
Fr one of the most underrated solos in a song
This solo and the solo in Still Loving You are sooo good

Holy Wars - Megadeth
God That Failed - Metallica

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Shogun - Trivium
War of the Gods - Amon Amarth

Ritchie Blackmore, the greatest guitarist of all time. So many great solos with Deep Purple and Rainbow.
