Brian May - Star Licks (Guitar Tutorial 1983) - Full Version
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 тра 2015
- In 1983, Star Licks Productions created a series of instructional videos featuring well-known musicians demonstrating their unique musical styles and techniques. The portfolio debuted with a wide-ranging group of players including Steve Lukather of Toto, Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Al McKay (Earth, Wind & Fire) guitarist Albert Lee, and acclaimed guitarist/educator Wolf Marshall.
In this video, Brian discusses his equipment and techniques, and demonstrates a number of his guitar solos. He covers both famous and lesser known Queen songs, including Brighton Rock, Tie Your Mother Down, Somebody To Love, It's Late, Dead On Time, Put Out The Fire, It's A Hard Life, Keep Yourself Alive, Jesus, Father To Son and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
The programme was produced and directed by Mark Freed and Robert Decker, and recorded at Sarm West, London, England. The video was originally released in 1983 and later reissued in 1993/4.
Note from Brian :
Mark initially came to me with an idea for making audio cassettes of guitarists explaining their techniques. It seemed a good one and we arranged to meet and make it happen. But I said ... if we’re going to the trouble of recording this stuff, why not film it as well, and make it into a Video Cassette ?! So we made a ‘pilot’ video, and people liked it, and this became the template for a whole collection of videos which, I think, stand up very well to this day.
Maybe we should do an update ?!

The official BRIAN MAY CHANNEL is designed to carry anything on film or video that relates to me [Brian May] outside Queen - to replace all the bits and pieces of music video that are currently around out there with new highest quality versions, and fill in the gaps; and to cover under one umbrella the other areas that I operate in … Stereoscopy, Astronomy, and my animal welfare work through my charity the Save Me Trust. Each of these areas will have their own playlist on the Brian May channel. But the intended pivot of it all is the entirely new part that we’re calling Brian Talks. Most definitely the softest spoken guitar legend ever. If you crawled out from under a rock and didn't know who he was you would never guess he was one of the greatest musicians ever. Especially a superband like Queen.
No, listen to Rory Gallagher - who taught May his first licks - and who May calls Mr G.

It's incredible that this man has used the same guitar rig for over 40 years, I recently watched a rig rundown with Brian and it's more or less identical to this video
A bit of repair work over the last 30 years or so, but yes incredible. He does claim it's never had a refret, which is amazing. A combination of a very light touch and light guage strings.
@@Jamesfoofighter, he meant the rig

Holy shit, I've always loved Queen, but watching this I'm convinced Brian May is a genius. The talent in that band was off the charts.
He is. Really. He has a PH.d in Astrophysics from the Imperial College in London.
He IS a genius.
He's a musical genius, one of the best and most iconic guitar players ever, made one of the best guitars ever when he was 17, and he's a professor in astrophysics.
Couldn't agree more. I was the ultimate Queen fan in highschool (78-82). I still have all the original vinyl from Queen I through The Game. His tone comes from the Red Special and his Vox AC30 settup. It was that sound I found so inspiring, as well as his studio orchestrations.
Not many bands can get by with 1 guitar player, like Queen. Most have a rythmn and lead. It's amazing how full they sounded with just a guitar and bass guitar.
His voice is so calming. He could do a meditation app.
Jimmy Page`s voice is also a wonderful thing to behold.
Indeed, I could buy that app instantly

Love Bostons guitar sound and the fact that he would play les paul juniors. do you know what his pedal company is called Joseph ?

Go ahead and get a guitar. My recommendation, a Glarry guitar. They are good, less than $100. Get a package = guitar + amp. Strat, Tele, two humbucker, hum + single + hum styles. Light, basswood, 22 frets. Delivery included in the price. Then, select a decent guitar course. You will enjoy it. For more fun, also get a Casio arranger keyboard. Perhaps a CDP-350S? A think that is the model. 88 key, built in 200 rhythms, about $400. Then your little brother or sister can play with you and sing. Lots of free music on the Internet. Chords and lyrics to songs. Or, a friend can come over and play and sing with you. Have some fun.

The Red Special is the coolest guitar ever made. I think it's amazing that he managed to make a guitar with his dad that has such a distinctive and amazing sound. He managed to make a guitar that is arguably better than all the super high end Gibsons, Fenders, PRSs, and everything else out of a fucking reclaimed cabinet. He is also an incredibly creative god of guitar, and he has made so much amazing music through his life. Such an inspiration!
It does have a GREAT sound. I prefer that of a Byrdland though
It took him two years. I can only imagine how much time he spent thinking of what he wanted out of the guitar. Seems like he knew he wanted every sounds possible (looking at all those switches). And took his time for the design, as it's really really well balanced.
Pretty sure the neck is oak mantlepiece, the body is veneered blockboard with a strip from a table as a supporting centrepiece.

Most of the time when I hear a guitar being played, I hear a guitar being played no matter how well it is being played. But when Brian May's playing guitar, his guitar is straightly TALKing to me like. So far he is the only guitarist that made me uncontrollably teared up.
