@handel1111 and it makes this guitar tone in wembley some kind of "weird". If you listen to guitar tone in Hot space or the game tours, they sound more distorted and close to studio versions of songs. But this makes more uniqueness to Brian's tones among other guitarists
When Brian would record his delays in the studio, he would have multiple amps set up and have the signal sent to them at specific times while he played. He did what delay pedals do today, but manually.
This is a misnomer, he only ever played with delay in studio in Brighton Rock, and he actually played it on two takes, one left and one right. He did do this when playing live though.
No guitarist can sound as good live as Dr. Brian May..I mean holy mother of god he is making it sound like a whole orchestra is playing and he's alone..plus he's so precise, so damn unique... a pure genius
I realized his tuning is standard tuning. first of all, it isn't Drop D Tuning of course. second, I tested it out to tune my guitar into Standard Tuning. That's the tuning for Bohemian Rhapsody, etc... in conclusion, I falsely claimed that this tuning is Drop D. Brian's playing Drop D Tuning for other songs sometimes (either if his guitar was switched during live.) I apologize for replying false answer that I searched from Google. I didn't know.
This is awesome! Brain May is one of the best guitarists in the world and a solo doesn't mean going insane and playing super fast when playing like some guitarists do. Brian has that unique sound and it is simply awesome!
Brian does not seem to rate his playing very highly, he was apparantly immensley embarassed about being asked to be a part of the G3 tour a couple of years ago as he did not feel this his technique was up to the standard of Joe Satriani etc. Though in my opinion for what it is worth, the timing he has to keep up with in this solo, by using echo/delay etc, is just as technical difficult as fast arpegios etc. Deserves his place as one of the greats.
I began to play the piano when I was 4 - 5, but after listennng to Brian, I decided to play the guitar. I've playing it for almost 24 years! Love you Brian, miss you, Freddie!
Brian solos are a must for every guitarist! He is always creative and original, he puts together virtuosism, special sound effects like guitar harmonies and orchestrations, power chords, wonderful tone, all in one!

I remember listening to the Live at Wembley cd in 1995. I'd never heard the Brighton Rock solo live. It still sounds so good. No endless noodling, which i do love. This is just so different (in a good way😊)
His Majesty, Brian May! The king! What a brilliant and open mind he is to creat so many great melodies, riffs and solos! I love his approach to the things, he is so dedicated to everything he makes. His perfectionism in the studio is well known, but he is a scientist after all. He must know that everything is perfect and clear! God bless you, Brian!
the second solo in KYA was pretty awesome--I loved it when he made the Red Special sound like a steel guitar. He can make it sound like anything... is he even human?!
This guy plays guitar in four dimensions- he runs all around the stage, up stairs, and uses a double/triple delay, pretty fitting for a real astrophysicist, which he is by the way. 4:15 has to be the best part of the whole solo, but this guy is a lot more than just a guitarist, that what makes him such a favorite, regardless of how many guitarists are 'better' Pairing him with Freddie, and Roger and John, just incredible. They really were the best band, ever.
first time I heard 5:49 - 6:11, I cried. this has to be the single most influential guitar solo I've ever heard. in those few moments, I heard the birth of Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction and most of the 90s alt rock movement that took this sound and built a fucking career out of it. all thanks to Brian Fucking May. one of the best bands out there to this day.
All of the above- all true/fact. If I'm not adding too much his doctorate I believe is from none other than Oxford and his specialty is " cosmic particles/dust". Like- are you kidding me?! Only a genius can take up such a study and make heads or tails of it.
Unquestionably, in the opinion of this guitarist, the greatest rock solo of all time. There are other solos and guitarists who come close, but none that capture, in my opinion, the effects of technology, harmony, timing, and pure skill as Brian May, especially in this particular performance of it. It's epic. That's the only way I can describe it
I saw Queen and Adam Lambert in August and Brian played a really cool solo about the same length as this one. It was a mix of this solo and a few of his other ones and of course some new stuff! It was absolutely amazing and I have no idea how he can still pull it off at 72!!😍
...It's not about how fast you play, but what kinda sound you make that defines a good solo (like this). -A lot of ignorante people makes that mistake...
This guy is playing a fireplace. literally. The fretboard from his red express is from the family fireplace. He needed some heavy wood and his dad cut off a bit of the fireplace. He hand wound the pickups, and totally hand built the guitar. He has put his entire life , his history and everything into this guitar, so when he creates music beyond our imaginations, understand that it is not just chance, but that he has put everything he has and is into it. You have to love this guy.

4:15 -- awesome sound. Brian may is such a well rounded musician, i love the way he plays with delays. Too bad he never put out an album like robert fripp did, it would have been out of this world! Anyone who can run around stairs while soloing with a delay is worthy of appreciation. Add to this his legitimate PhD in astrophysics, the guy is really the cats pajamas, or in rock terms: A GOD.
Brian's Dad was initially supportive. then one day Brian flew him out to NYC for a concert; afterwards, the elder May said to his son- "okay now i get it" paternal approval- a truly awesome thing!
Due to Brian's solos I began to play the guitar, and left the piano forever. I love him...both of us play, studied math and physics, compose and got a phd...We have a few things in common. Long live to you Brian, I love you! July 19 th was your 65 year old birthday! All the best to you :)
Each great player has his own way of leaving his message, it does not matter how many notes he plays. He can play many like Paul Gilbert or few like May. Both are great composers and guitar players.
Brian May's guitar playing is so underrated. Mostly hes know for Bohemian Rhapsody solo but he has a lot under his sleeves and this video portrays so well.
Basically ...... that´s exactly what comes into my mind whenever i have to explain the term : "Master-of-Strings" ! Unreal ! Totally blows my mind ! So incredibly good !

Original sound out of the centre amp, 800millisecond delay on the left, 1600 millisecond delay on the right
Man... probably the longest guitarcable ever used on stage.
😁😁😁😁
Brian's cable was 5 X 20 foot cables joined together to make a cable length of 100 foot. This was used with a line driver attached to the guitar strap
and I heard that because of long cable, brian used two treble boosters

Good comment. As Eddie Van Halen once said - "I play lots of notes because I have to. It takes me fifty notes to say what BB King can say with one."
The way Brian harmonises each part of the solo absolute genius. My favourite Gituar player ever. Happy Birthday please keep Rocking.
