I’ve had no trouble wearing and using it. I use it all day and 120 minutes for the first part of the night. In fact, my main complaint is that the battery charge doesn’t last for a whole 24 hours of use. Thus, when I bought 2 Apollo devices, one to share with my son, I ended up using the second Apollo for myself more than for him just so I could have 24 hour use. It takes a whole 2 hours to charge! That is a long time to have to be without it. To use 2 Apollo devices, I have to use 2 separate mobile devices (I use one iPhone and one iPod Touch, but an iPad would work as well), because only one can be linked to the app per device. I also wish their vibration modes could be set to longer than 60 minutes at a time. The only 2 modes that can be set for longer than 60 minutes are the “Sleep and Renew” and “Social and Open “ modes at 120 minutes. I use all the modes on their maximum amount of time. Most of the modes max time is 60 minutes. The “Energy and Wake Up” mode only goes up to 30 minutes in length.

Thank you for a very honest and reliable scientific and medical review. I have been using apollo neuro device for 1 month, keeping hrv under control, and so far I don't see any significant effect. Nice, clear, concise video. My experience and belief is that hrv rate is more like a clue of cortisol levels. Cortisol is the body's natural fight or flight state. It has a good purpose but excess constant all over the place cortisol indicates an excessive stressed out lifestyle. Low hrv rate = higher cortisol tendency. Higher cortisol tendency = constant body stress, and thus all same ill health markers (diabetes, cardiovascular problems, lung disease, depression) and so on. So a hrv status monitor helps the wearer see if they are often in stressed state and learn better techniques to mitigate the high cortisol tendency, ie stress. Always being in a peaceful, meditative, calmer state to raise hrv, in order to keep cortisol lower is not always what you want. I have done many of the techniques to improve my hrv status (from mindful breathing exercises, to taking certain vitamins and minerals and herbs). Magnesium glycine, calcium, zinc have all just made me sleepy. Holy basil is brilliant and raises hrv status. But, they have made me so relaxed I can't work. They are great for sleep. Taking then during the day though and I've actually become depressed because I've been so relaxed I can barely function. Yet mt hrv is higher. Wonderful. Sure its great for people that are often in high state of stress and maybe its not a given as a panacea health marker. Since regular exercise helps people lose weight, gain muscle, build heart strength, releases endorphines for depression it also improves hrv and thus cortisol. So my approach which is better is just using something like a garmin which monitors when my body battery is low and then I need to rest to let my body catch up. So, using a hrv status monitor is more as a useful guide to warn the wearer not to overtrain and to keep exercising to balance their cortisol.
Thanks so much! The book is also available on the publisher’s website here: insighteditions.com/products/brains-explained-how-your-brain-works-and-why-it-works-that-way
I have a mild -but sometimes exhausting- case of POTS (Which is a form of dysautonomia), and my nervous system is all over the place. My heart rate and blood pressure are usually low, but I'm sure my HRV would be far from ideal. I've been diagnosed for 4 years now. Fortunately, though, I haven't experienced depression or anxiety as a result of my condition. I guess studying patients with a type of autonomic dysfunction may shed some light on the relationship between HRV and depression.
Solid review. I just dont get how a vibration on your wrist or ankle feels like a human hug. Would also like to see or hear more on studies about how this device helps with athletic performance. Finally, they MUST make this thing more attractive. Easily the ugliest wearable out there.
Having to use an app just gets in the way. I hope you can set the setting etc without using the app. Most people could do with less time on their phone.
I'm not a scientist but do understand your concerns on the studies claimed by Apollo. However i couldn't help but notice you seemed more focused intellectually on the studies done by the company than actually wearing the device consistently to determine it's benefits. Not a completely fair review since you could have created your own study on it's use but didn't because of various reasons. Thanks for your video though !
I do feel that although this review was extremely well done and full of scientific information. It’s almost like you set out to play devils advocate with quite a negative mind set from the start. You admitted you didn’t use the device properly. You also said the vibrations were distracting. Apollo clearly states that you should ‘only just’ be able to feel them. If they are distracting then turn them down. I just don’t feel this is a valid review considering you didn’t really follow the user guidelines 🤷🏻♀️
For a product that costs $350 I'd say it ought to blow you away from the first use, skeptical or not. This is supposed to have some profound neurological effect. Imperceptible, at that price, doesn't do it.
@@chuck1804The problem is, part of the benefit is retraining your brain to handle stressful events in a better way and that takes more long term use I think. Its not something you can just strap on and instantly. The improvements might not be totally obvious either, if it gives you maybe 10% improvement it might depend on how bad your symptoms are to make it worth it.
can someone please tell me what it does? it's biofeedback? in what sense? What is it reacting to? biofeedback means you can change how it vibrates by doing something, what? I feel like the video is made for someone who already has one
I got the device on sale and I think they have made a few improvements or taken user feedback into mind. They have a clip now so you can have an option to wear it clipped on your collar or onto a neckband. The app has some options to schedule things, so it can remind you or start the particular program (I haven’t tried it yet). That seems to be things that address some of the down sides you mentioned. I almost wish my apple watch could do the vibrations itself so I didn’t have to wear a second device.
Hi! I really enjoyed your informative review of this product. After seeing an ad for the product I wanted to know more about the research behind it and you appear to have done a good job doing that. Although I have not tried the Apollo product, I have noticed a subjective improvement in my memory and focus while using a TENS unit on my back. There are several settings and would probably feel more "balanced" than wearing something on the wrist or ankle. If you have time, I would love to hear a comparison of a $35 TENS unit from Walgreens and this $350 bracelet! Best- New subscriber
I may struggle with PTSD, and bipolar 2, but there's no way in hell I'm dropping $350 on a device that's not peer-reviewed and on which no public data is available. If they decide to publish their data, my mind may change. Transparency in these claims is absolutely key, or you look like (or are) a snake oil salesman.
The reviewer is nerdy/cute..I like that :). As a graduate-level scientist, I only partially agree with her. I think that in a clinical setting, it is extremely difficult to prove the effect that this device would have on HRV. There are so many things that affect HRV on daily basis. There is too much "noise" throughout the day to exactly tell that this device is making a positive impact. I guess the most accurate way to measure it is while sleeping. I don't think she even tried to wear it while sleeping because she hasn't mentioned it in her review. If she recorded her sleep data for a month of wearing the device and then for a month without wearing the device, I am certain that she would see an average increase in HRV for the month that she was wearing it. She is just going by her feelings when she wears it throughout the day, which is fine but she really needs Whoop or Oura ring to look at the data from those devices after sleeping with and without Apollo before making any suggestions on the effectiveness of the device.
Great video... what I can say is that I have a cat that purrs like a Ferrari and on nights when I feel myself estresed and with some anxiety enough to stop my sleep . its purr let me fall down in deep dream and also energize me in morning and wake me up for give it some food ...
I thought about this too, honestly! I didn't look into whether or not there's research on whether cat purring is actually effective at reducing stress and so on, but it's super interesting to consider the possible overlap!
Yeah my psychologist told me if someone makes claims with NO ACTUAL DATA, it's bogus. And at that price, for that small of a thing, it's out of reach for MANY MANY people.
Look up CEH and using electrical impulse on the brain to treat ptsd and anxiety. It is pretty affective. Also there is an electrical impulse device that is inserted in the left ear and works on the vagal nerve. There are lots of studies on those things. It seems like they are trying to do that without putting it on the head.
There are several interventions which use rhythms to change your mood like the latest pulsed microcurrent devices from china and audio visual entrainment like the kasina. and interventions using vibration l The sensate focus and touchstone neuro are 2 remarkably similar to the apollo but the sensate seems to have more reported success.
Or just record the vibrations. I could do that if you want... but my experience with Apollo pretty much matches this one. I haven't been able to feel a difference.
Can someone please recommend devices that could be used outside to relief symptoms or agoraphobia and panic on the open? All of these require 'calming settings' ...
Hi! I recently came across one of your videos on why you love neuroscience from a few years ago. I think neuroscience may be a field I want to pursue. I'm going to UT Austin in the fall and I just applied for the Freshman Research Initiative. I originally applied as a Biology major (not sure if i want to do medicine or research in the future yet), but neuroscience has REALLY caught my interest. I am also minoring in philosophy, which leads me to believe I'll be satisfied studying topics like the origins of consciousness. As someone who is considering going into the field, what advice do you have to offer? Thanks! Just subscribed to your channel.
I am personally pretty sensitive to having things on my hands and wrists while typing (like rings and bracelets) and find them uncomfortable but for some folks it might be fine!
It’s a good video but...they come right out and say that you need to use this device a lot for the first 30 days. Did you do that l, no. To give it a fair shake you need to follow the directions. It’s like doctor prescribing you a drug and said to take this amount. So you got the drug but only took 1/4th of a dose and then said it doesn’t work 🤷♂️
The only thing I find confusing about neurotech is that I don't know how much of their supposed effect is the device actually working and how much of it is just the good old placebo effect. Also, if you suddenly start exercising and meditating at the same time you start using a device of any kind... how can you be sure that the effects are coming from the device and not the fact that you just started exercising and meditating? The fact they claim to help with fibro pain got my attention but, as someone who also has both autism and ADHD... I'm pretty sure I'd just find this both distracting and uncomfortable to wear. I agree that it would probably be better if it was something you could wear on both sides and not just one.
I think your book may be doing well on the preorders. It was out of stock on the US Amazon when I checked. I can’t find it on the UK Amazon site. Is it being released over here in Britain?
Oh no! That's concerning. I just tried on my side and it seemed okay. Were you perhaps ordering on US Amazon to deliver in the UK? I wonder if it's getting messed up there. Regardless, if you're able, send me a screenshot at alie.astrocyte@gmail.com and I'll look into it. As for release in Britain, we are waiting for confirmation on which countries it will be releasing in, but I predict Britain will be on the list!
She come across as close minded, smug and lazy. Poor thing, she had to wear the device and open the app to choose a mood!! What a struggle! She didn’t even bother to measure her HRV, any marker or do a decent biofeedback! I don’t have the device and I’m not planning on buying it because there is better devices out there but I hate the argument from authority attitude the conventional doctors/scientists have, that’s why they are so behind, drink water, eat right and exercise!! Stating the obvious? I already knew that there is no studies to back up this device before I’ve watched her review! I wanted her own unbiased experience with no placebo or nocebo. She has abundance of the latter and that’s how she started the experiment with. I would start an experience with that attitude with something like snake oil only tho.
I love this video and the content y'all make. Neuroscience is so interesting and important to the many mysteries surrounding health and biology. As a side note, your pronunciation of "tote" sort of throws me off, as you're pronouncing it as "toot", which in my family was the less crude way to say fart.
Is there an easy way to measure HRV? (New to me) Also, I wonder when considering correlation between vibration and health, do studies include singing, chanting, or laughing? I was a Benedictine monk for a couple of years and anecdotally, I would say that chanting and singing, multiple times a day, every day, had positive effects on mood and health because when you really sing or chant using your full breath, it resonates and vibrates throughout the whole body. You don't need a device to get your daily dose of vibrations, just hum ir sing or chant, and definitely don't forget to laugh.
No, but it may be Facebook who gets into the space first. They and Siri are both working on brain text interfaces under the realm of accessibility. It's what neuroethicists are concerned about right now, who it is that opens the floodgates. DARPA's program is lightyears ahead of everyone though, and makes Neuralink look like a toy.
I tried it. It broke within a week. Now Apollo Neuro won't give me my money back. Apollo Neuro representative, Sarah D. admitted it was a dud, " We're sorry the Apollo you received is defective" Poor quality control. Poor customer service.
can some explain what it actually does? I have a watch that vibrates on the hour, is it like that? like keeping your phone in your pocket and setting it to vibrate? What is the spiel on this thing for someone who hasn't heard about it before? you said it's biofeedback? in what sense? What is it reacting to? biofeedback means you can change how it vibrates by doing something, what? I feel like the video is made for someone who already has one It literally just vibrates? but you can get a vibrating watch for 10 dollars? "you need 2 hours a day for a month to see benefits" i.e. if it doesn't work it's not our fault it's your fault (because who the heck could do that consistently)
Feels like another attempt at siphoning money off of troubled people desperate to get help. I hate the commercialization of mental health with a fiery passion.
What do you think? Would you try out this neurotech device?

Thanks so much! The book is also available on the publisher’s website here: insighteditions.com/products/brains-explained-how-your-brain-works-and-why-it-works-that-way
Finally an unbiased review. Thank you so much.👍🏾👏🏾
I have a mild -but sometimes exhausting- case of POTS (Which is a form of dysautonomia), and my nervous system is all over the place.
Did you try neuro for your POTS? I was wondering if this might help for it.
There are studies about using a similar method to lower anxiety in stressful situations. But for depression, I’ve never seen a study like that.
Solid review. I just dont get how a vibration on your wrist or ankle feels like a human hug.
Would also like to see or hear more on studies about how this device helps with athletic performance.
Finally, they MUST make this thing more attractive. Easily the ugliest wearable out there.
I have one and it works. I can never just sit still... It has relaxed me.. not like a drug. But to the point where I can handle the rest
Seems like it just makes you more present in the moment.
Also reminds me of a Fitbit. I'd just get that and improve my fitness.
Sees title: no, no probably not
I do feel that although this review was extremely well done and full of scientific information.
This
@Clarry what
For a product that costs $350 I'd say it ought to blow you away from the first use, skeptical or not. This is supposed to have some profound neurological effect. Imperceptible, at that price, doesn't do it.
@@chuck1804 I use it on max power, you really feel it. It's fantastic for me.
The outlay of $300 is enough for people to *want* it work.
can someone please tell me what it does?
it's biofeedback? in what sense? What is it reacting to? biofeedback means you can change how it vibrates by doing something, what? I feel like the video is made for someone who already has one
Festinger's Cognitive Dissonance Theory from the 60s that is..
Interesting idea. Placebo effect is strong.

An anti-ad immediately followed by two ads back to back, YT ads notwithstanding.
@@JamieR have you been using it? How’s it working out for you so far? I’m very interested in trying one.
@@JamieR does it work?
Who doesn't just love Neurology!? 😄
Hmmm. Interesting. Always love your guys topics!
Would wearing two devices at the same time on either both wrists or each ankle be beneficial or counterproductive?
@@neurotransmissions Same here, I even thought about possible interferences when my cat was purring against my ankle. He didn't seem to care though XD
Lucky... my cat attacks my fingers through the head board bars in the middle of the night 😭😭
Yeah my psychologist told me if someone makes claims with NO ACTUAL DATA, it's bogus. And at that price, for that small of a thing, it's out of reach for MANY MANY people.
Great review! Thanks!
great video, great editing, great review
Awesome video! Thank you!
What a lovely informative review... u deserve that gift
Excellent review. Thank You!
CEH?
@@erisd8452 sorry! CES is what I meant
How about those 660 nm light devices?
There are several interventions which use rhythms to change your mood like the latest pulsed microcurrent devices from china and audio visual entrainment like the kasina. and interventions using vibration l The sensate focus and touchstone neuro are 2 remarkably similar to the apollo but the sensate seems to have more reported success.
I absolutely love mine!
Perhaps reverse engineer the waveforms it makes and then make an audio track to play on a subwoofer?
Or just record the vibrations. I could do that if you want... but my experience with Apollo pretty much matches this one. I haven't been able to feel a difference.
@@opalindays8037 and then just incorperate them into an app and strap your phone to your arm
Only healthy and wealthy life could heal you...
Tenants of good science: transparent and reproducible research. The Apollo has neither.
The word is *tenets*, not tenants.
I think it may cause additional stress in that most friends and family will think you are under house arrest when you wear it on your ankle. 😂
It’s been at least a year since this thing has been out. Any new research out there?
Have you heard of the Fischer wallace device and its claims? I would love to hear your opinion on it
Can someone please recommend devices that could be used outside to relief symptoms or agoraphobia and panic on the open? All of these require 'calming settings' ...
very good thorough consideration of something I am very skeptical of. I will be sticking to foster cats though
Our cats are foster cats too
depends where you put the bracelet.. know what I mean, eyy...eyy nudge nudge
Why does youtube tag this video with "includes paid promotion"? That's not fair to you if they did not actually pay you. Thanks for the video
Cause UA-cam considers “free stuff” payment
No guys, it’s because there’s a Brilliant ad in the video.
@@neurotransmissions lol
Looking forward for the update.
Does it make it harder to write with the hand it is on?
I am personally pretty sensitive to having things on my hands and wrists while typing (like rings and bracelets) and find them uncomfortable but for some folks it might be fine!
It’s a good video but...they come right out and say that you need to use this device a lot for the first 30 days. Did you do that l, no. To give it a fair shake you need to follow the directions. It’s like doctor prescribing you a drug and said to take this amount. So you got the drug but only took 1/4th of a dose and then said it doesn’t work 🤷♂️
I used it for 30 days and made a video about it.
Really great job! Thank you so much!
Thank you for a new video, interesting !
Are there any specific exercises that could improve HRV?
We have the same IKEA carpet, excellent taste ;-)
Is it started/set/stopped via an app? Doesn't it expose you then constantly to EMF?
Thanks. You answered exactly the questions I had, and confirmed my suspicions that this is most likely pseudo-science.
It just means you don't have any need for the device in the first place, because you're not sick!
Excellent review. I doubt if the appollo neuro works either.
I love your video!!! gotta go check the website and the book too!!! Subscribed already!
It is pretty amazing... but hey using something not as directed and then say it doesn't really work... sounds scientific to me....lol
HRV is measured by the Oura ring, Whoop bracelet and others.
Try Elite HRV and a polar chest strap. I have been wanting to learn Gregorian Chant for the purposes of improving my HRV.
I had TMS it saved my life and I had exercise good diet and all above
does anyone know a cheaper version of it?
Is Neuralink the next big thing in neuroscience?
Elon Musk sure things so
No, but it may be Facebook who gets into the space first. They and Siri are both working on brain text interfaces under the realm of accessibility. It's what neuroethicists are concerned about right now, who it is that opens the floodgates. DARPA's program is lightyears ahead of everyone though, and makes Neuralink look like a toy.
@@neurotransmissions when I get older and start with neurology I'm thinking about making my own brainwave stimulation oscillatioing device!

I used Qi gong when I get stressed. Getting this device to see if this works with it
have they asked you to send it back yet?
I think your too happy to get real benefits of the band lol
I tried it. It broke within a week. Now Apollo Neuro won't give me my money back. Apollo Neuro representative, Sarah D. admitted it was a dud, " We're sorry the Apollo you received is defective" Poor quality control. Poor customer service.
Is the calypso music necessary?
Caffine is not good for you and blocks receptors in the brain which tell you that you are tired. It isnt good for the cardio vascular system either.
What is like Apollo but what is cheeper
can some explain what it actually does? I have a watch that vibrates on the hour, is it like that? like keeping your phone in your pocket and setting it to vibrate? What is the spiel on this thing for someone who hasn't heard about it before?
you said it's biofeedback? in what sense? What is it reacting to?
biofeedback means you can change how it vibrates by doing something,
what? I feel like the video is made for someone who already has one
It literally just vibrates? but you can get a vibrating watch for 10 dollars?
"you need 2 hours a day for a month to see benefits" i.e. if it doesn't work it's not our fault it's your fault (because who the heck could do that consistently)
It's hard to digest all the details and not stray away from the main question.
Any update on the papers?
Feels like another attempt at siphoning money off of troubled people desperate to get help. I hate the commercialization of mental health with a fiery passion.
