I was diagnosed at 20 as bipolar and put on meds. By 40 I was on disability. then I stopped gluten and dairy and processed foods for my husband who got cancer and in one month I not only got rid of my bipolar symptoms I also cured my autoimmune system. I lost 50 years of health (I am now 70)

yes! Chronic inflammation is known to directly be linked to mental illness symptoms. It agitates the body and brain. As we take care of our bodies and brains, we get well mentally.

My dear brother has suffered for years and NOBODY believed it was physical, only mental/emotional despite several concussions since age 2 and many food allergies. He's now 51 and in jail where he has no physical contact, only interactions with other unhealthy people and atrocious food options. We desperately need to address the prison system and overhaul it using these techniques and information.

yes, we should take care of that. but the people in jail and prison are the last ones that anybody wants to help. I don't have any friends or family in jail bit I feel adament about not forgetting them. most of the people there had very abusive childhoods and their hippocampus is small, they run on cortisol. the food they are fed make it worse.

I suspect there are many people with mental illness that have trouble being understood who are unable to fit into a "pleasant societal slot." So away we must go. It's really tragic. I'm sorry for what you and your brother are going thru. Addiction, anger, violence are often signs of mood disorders and we need light, calm, good human connections, healthy foods and good sleep to even have a chance at repairing our brains. There but for the grace of God go any of us! It's eeny, meeny, miney, mo! People with mental illness need kindness and holistic help, not incarceration, and not always psychotherapeutic drugs. We need to be understood and loved and a chance to move back into wellness. And it's a long road, but with some understanding and willingness it can be done. It's just most unfortunate that self-discipline is in short supply when one is mentally ill. I think they should check all incoming prisoners' neurotransmitter levels in their brains via their saliva. Without proper levels it's hard to feel healthy motivation, get quality sleep, hold down responsibilities, feel pleasure and love appropriately. And many with PTSD are just in fear a lot, and have many triggers that keep them in survival mode to fight or run. I really wish police got training in handling encounters with suspected PTSD, or simply approach all suspects/criminals as if they have PTSD. Honestly, I heavily suspect many cops have PTSD and are walking around with loaded guns. Maybe we should also test their neurotransmitters after certain traumatic events on the job, even months afterwds, because they have their adrenaline elevated daily and it's got to take a toll on them, too! And maybe then there will be yet more sensitivity around mental illness in this society. May God bless you and all of us.

Thank you so much to both of you for sharing this important information with the world. I am a hospice volunteer mainly for Alzheimer's patients and I get to see the end result, the last 6 months of their life. When I started this work and saw them curled up in their bed in the fetal position I said a prayer to God, asking him what can I do for them and I heard "pray". I verbally say a prayer over each one and I know that at a spiritual level they know that I prayed for them because on rare occasions they have said "thank you" and I have even seen a very slight smile. They do feel the love I have for them. I am so grateful that I am able to do this type of volunteer work, God has truly blessed me. I am grateful. Debbie

As a former psychiatric R.N., I always wondered why we never scanned our patients brain. To me it just made common sense. I didn’t think the food we fed them was particularly healthy either. But, insurance companies don’t want to pay for scans. My area of specialty was working with children and adolescents. Gosh, it was both rewarding and heartbreaking. I’m glad we as a society are working towards diminishing the stigma. Fingers crossed.

My point live your life don't think badly of yourself enjoy life don't let your weight change your life if you can't lose it. I know people who had weight loss surgery and they died young by 50 from strokes or pancreas problems because of the surgery. And extreme diets also dangerous can ruin your kidneys and liver and end your life young. On of my women friends also very heavy I have known many years she is now in her 80s sharp as a tack and doing well still ( but her skinny husband is gone). The truth is that it's all more than weight that finishes people off.

    Things I learned here .
    1) don’t consider as mental health. It is brain health. To be honest, ever since I first heard that in one video from him, I felt relieved and confident that I could treat my depression just by caring my brain.
2)You should take care of your brain in advance. And your body as well.
3)Your brain’s inactive or holes are mostly because of alcohol or drugs, your working environment sometimes.
4)Make sure your diet is balanced and take enough sleep.
Personally, changing topic MENTAL HEALTH to BRAIN HEALTH gives me hopes to cure or treat this. All I need to do is caring my brain, right.😊
But when I thought as mental health, I was helpless and hopeless to get out of depression.😢

Teach them meditation. It sounds trivial the way most people think of it, but meditation is actually communion with the source of all that is. For anyone that communion would be the greatest gift, but most especially for anyone who is overwhelmed by any kind of suffering, like trauma, addiction, even addiction to negative thinking. That communion is the same reason that 12 step programs are so effective for any kind of addiction, and the depth of that communion determines the level of success in those programs. I'm mentioning addiction here because that is what often follows childhood traumas.

I just wanted to say how beautiful it was to see a doctor of psychiatry talking about real life scenarios. Actually giving his own family as an example. Being able to relate to a person one-on-one is the most genuine connection that two human beings can share. It brings hope in a world of chaos.
I myself am a 46 year-old woman who was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder when I was 28. I have had a lot of therapy since then. I have spent years doing any sort of research I can. I've always been open to anything that will help. I figured the only way I would be able to do that is by educating myself. I have just started to get into the physical health of the body and nutrition. I know everything that I need to be doing but it is difficult to follow through with my disorder. I recently moved a year ago and have had difficulty finding someone who can treat me physically and emotionally. The basics are just not enough. I'm basically trying to take care of myself by using self-help.
I know that I need to fix my body and I just want a chance to do it. I just want to have a chance to get my life back before I get any older.
There is a big part of me that feels empathic and extremely intuitive. Almost to the point of feeling psychic at times. This is something that I would be interested in exploring as far as the brain is concerned.
Once again thank you so much for being so down to earth. ♥️

Faith Walker Have you ever been evaluated for Asperger's? Many people
who have Asperger's get diagnosed with borderline and/or Bipolar and it could be a misdiagnosis. Or you could have both. Here is the link for the test if you would like to take it www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php. Also I would like to share another UA-cam channel with you called Mindful Divergence. She was diagnosed with Asperger's as well but did not know it her whole life. I didn't either and thought that there was no way! lol. It was not until I watched a few of her videos and took the Asperger's test that I realized OMG! Scored extremely high! As for diet The keto diet works very well for borderline and Bipolar Type symptoms in my opinion. Just stay away from too many high histamine foods should you try it. I really hope you will look into these things for yourself. I am a 47 almost 48 year old female and I love to try to help people. I am like you and have Psychic gifts and intuition. I don't know if you have taken the Meyers / Briggs Personality assessment before either. A lot of People take that and end up an INFJ or INFP have the empathic features and are Intuitives. Look into this. You will feel better about yourself. Don't Let a Borderline diagnosis define you. Bless your heart. If you need somebody to talk to I would be so happy to talk to you. Just let me know.

My daughter has also now been diagnosed but she is younger and is making some recovery, she was also misdiagnosed for ten years as having Lupus, then she was told she had fibromyalgia and finally after her Dads diagnosis they checked her and found she also had the illness. Psychiatric drugs like seroquel, Effexor, and all the benzodiazepines also cause severe brain damage if taken for a long period of time. I found that most GP Doctors have no idea how toxic they are for the brain long term. They have had no training at all in medical school about how to help patients withdrawal from these very dangerous brain disabling medications. Could you please tell me why there is no medical training for this. Considering these drugs can cause seizures and other horrific side effects that make you want to commit suicide due to the horrendous side effects. All these shocking side effects are listed way at bottom of the pamphlet??? And the minor side effects at the top 🤔why is that ???

Always go to psychiatrist for mental health , never a GP they are not specialist in this area. GPs must not prescribe these drugs only Psychiatrist as they study pharmacology of it and sometimes neurologist can but not all neurologist some very specialist one. All side effects are dose dependent and GPs dont know this plus they have not been trained in this like Psychiatrist have been they study brain behaviour for 6 years and practice it for 10 years. So its their specialisation, not GPs.
GP are jack of all trade master of none. Dont expect much. Go to a specialist

Learned so much from your insightful conversation. I intuitively believe so much of what you are discussing. The one thing that I see, though, is the cost involved to have your brain 'fixed'...so many people who have mental illness and are unable to function, work, etc., do not have the resources to improve their situation. Until insurance companies can see that your approach is the one to better productivity, health, and happiness (yes, a very important part of life), to have people heal on a mass scale is a long way away. So much of public health involves factors and conditions that an individual, especially a poor and mentally ill individual, cannot control:
lead toxicity, air pollution, mirocplastics, etc; chemicals in food supply, hormones and hormone-mimics, nutrient-depleted soil; social stress, inequality of wealth/power/resources, lack of green spaces, etc; school-to-prison pipeline, militarization and brutality of police, mass incarceration, etc.

Generally speaking, if we as humans all experience similar symptoms, how can it be an ‘illness’ rather than a symptom to our environment or experience? The DSM was created to identify which medication to prescribe, and pharma did an amazing job marketing the idea we need those medications. I was told multiple times I would probably need to be on an antidepressant for life for generalized anxiety but I’ve been off for 2.5 years now only to realize I have C-PTSD. Dr's i ve been on treatment for depression close to 30 yrs and up to today can't really say one type meds helped and Dr's made me took from one type meds to another, think I've taken all meds on the market, are a Christian but still struggled, and was no where close to good funtional life for most part of my life, I decided 3 months ago to stop all meds at once, which was a dangerous step, but my faith helped me through this and the fact that I wanted a meaningful life from now onward, I was in my own self-made jail for 30 years, despite for brain fog symptoms are going strong and better day by day, thx Lord for helping me with this decision

Thank you so very much, doctors! I have been suffering from OCD for 20 odd years, diagnosed in 1997. But I remember that as a child, I would wash hands after touching certain things and would always be arranging things. My maternal grandmother had chronic depression and was suicidal. So it is hereditary?
I never liked medication, never trusted them. I once asked the doctor if my brain has too much or too litlle serotonin. She said I had too little, without a single brain scan. So I have always been on my own OCD wise. Now I remember about a car accident that we had. It probably jolted my brain? When I was a little girl, somebody on a swing literally hit me on the front part of of head as the metal swing came swinging at me. Maybe, just maybe, that explains my condition?
To me, every single Brain Health Issue has its own unique root causes and story. You cannot simply put somebody in a category and start treating them the same way as everybody else. It's going to be a major disaster!
The worst thing is to ha ve people constantly telling me to " get over it, control your mind, don't let it control you, it's mind over matter, etc" . I would just roll my eyes in my mind while giving them a straight face. Have been beating myself up for making my parents suffer so much because of my tyrannical OCD behaviour. Now I realise it just probably wasn't my fault at all for being this way. Probably that's why God pointed out this video to me to watch.
God bless you and your loved ones abundantly! Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾

I am so glad I stumbled across this video! I always wondered why my psychiatrists never did a brain scan. I’ve been in psychiatric treatment since I was 11. Went on disability in my early 20s. I’m 30 now and tried everything. I pay close attention to my vitamin and food intake, exercise daily, don’t drink, don’t do drugs. I’ve spent multiple years of my life in therapy and psychiatric hospitals. Tried over 15 medications. Nothing worked. I still have to find a way to get better and do research online because I refuse to give up on my life! I am aware western medicine and current mental health treatments aren’t holistic/integral enough to help people like me, so I am pretty much on my own trying to find treatments and methods that help me.
My dream is to help homeless people and do charity work when I’m healthy enough to do so. Or maybe start a family. I luckily live in a county that provides me with an apartment and basic income to cover expenses for food, which I’m very thankful for. I don’t have a support system due to my social anxiety and barely leave my home, so having modern resources like online therapy or discussion forums help me immensely.
Thanks for sharing this video and your knowledge. 💕 This doctor‘s positivity is contagious.

That's always been the rub with psychiatry. You can't see it so it doesn't happen. Plus this innate belief that we all have "free will". It's amazing that the vast majority of Americans are so ignorant. If brain scans can be used on a large scale to just help verify a diagnosis or prove it incorrect, what a breakthrough that would be for the profession but more so, for public acceptance. But there is already a mountain of statistical evidence in the field of psychiatry without using brain scans. Scans are not needed in the field of psychiatry. But, would be nice to have them, especially for ignorant people.

Many common everyday things have toxins in them. Avoid people who make you upset. Because there is no way you can get a brain scan on disability.

I absolutely love this podcast because everything the drs are saying is exactly how I feel. A dr should get to the ROOT cause of the issue instead of just throwing someone on meds. There has to be a reason why we have these issues. Drs need to look at the person as a whole instead of just the diagnozist. But insurance does not cover all the scans. I have even considered going to an all natural dr just so I can get off my meds.

You're bipolar. Doctor put me on an antidepressant that made my knees hurt so bad I wanted to cry. I felt numb and lethargic. I got curious and Googled the ingredients and was coloring, clear coat and propylene glycol! That's the base in engine coolant or whatever...can't think of the name right. This is what QUALITY doctor advice should sound like. Very happy to come across this vid, it really matches the best info I’ve been coming across.
I pick up bodies for a funeral service. I can tell you now Doctors Are Killing people. People are dying too young for no good reason. No good nutrition and a RIDICULOUS amount of pills. (I’ve been in hundreds of nursing homes/ private homes to see the conditions and evidence for myself)
Thanks for mentioning the genes. If I didn’t intervene with my moms health. She most likely would be dead today. I remember the cancer doc asking her if cancer ran in her family. This has to be one of the biggest scam questions. When someone answers yes, they then make the false assumption “well, I guess it’s in my cards” then throw their hands in the air and continue to listen to the doctor. Such an evil scam. Which many have no idea about.
    Thanks for speaking truth.

I finally went to a licensed ND. Holy heck! A world of difference. Naturopathic doctors ARE the Premier functional medicine doctors and are trained for over 4yrs in treating the whole person, not the disease. I was blown away what I have learned and am still learning. MDs didn't want to go back to school to learn the paradigm of naturopathic medicine. Jeffery Bland was their professor, and he started the IFM certification for MDs. Save yourself lots of time and money, and go to an ND. I have been thinking about mental illnesses, and what they might be. I think there are different phases of stress, 1. stress, 2. PTSD, 3. depression (untreated stress), 4. manic depressive disorder, 5. schizophrenia, 6. borderline, ( I don't know what I think about the narcissistic disorders). If stress is left untreated it can develop into depression, we all know that. when people with psychosis hear voices or see things things that are not there, then it might be because the stress has become so bad, that sleep is not enough to process impressions during the day, so the dream state of mind becomes a part of the everyday life, what has not been processed. Being overstimulated with impressions, because a lot of stress maybe caused by trauma has build up inside a persons mind. Could that be a possible explanation.
