Not to mention subi bros aren't know for their care of their vehicles very well so hard to tell what maintenance was like before they purchased them. Having owned 2 Evos and 2 STI's, I can say they are both great cars and excellent fun and handle amazingly. The performance edge for handling and power and cost per HP for upgrading goes hands down to the Evo. Evo is much more reliable and costs way less to modify. I also like that the driving system you don't have to pin the throttle to hold a drift and let the car work it out for you, fluctuating the throttle kills the slide unless your on the ice/snow. STI is hands down more comfortable to ride around in, has better road manners and looks great. It's still fast, still handles very well, but unless you have driven an Evo you won't realize how much better the Evo handles.
“Mitsubishi is planning on brining the Evo back as crossover” first thing you find when searching “lancer evo crossover” on google is multiple articles that state that sources within Mitsubishi have said that IF the Evo makes a return, it’s NOT going to be a crossover 😅
@@arsyadaiman8474 The new crossover concept is for the new Mitsubishi e-Evolution car, which is a completely separate new model that has nothing to do with the Lancer Evolution. These comparisons mean nothing because you can pick whatever 5 categories you need to make sure the final score is close with only one point between them. You could pick 5 different categories and make either car look way better than the other one. Personally I just prefer the Evo, it's always been better looking, better handling and easier to work on.

@THEMLGNOSCOPER0 no there was no bad turbo lag. They spool up pretty good from factory. I know what you're referring to and it was the dumbest argument ever. What he was doing was lugging the engine. Putting it in a high gear at the wrong speed with his foot to the floor. Any car turbo or not will do the same thing cause the rpm is way too low to do what he was asking of the car. I have no idea why they did such a stupid thing
TBH, it's the smart decision for track racing. You are likely to crash the car and Yaris parts can be attained from the junkyard for nearly nothing. It's also very reliable which is another thing you want in a track car. Toyota parts can also be had pretty cheap parts are common across multiple platforms from sedans, SUV's and even the luxury Lexus brand. Honda I would say is better, but getting parts in a junkyard for older cars is no where near as easy as for Toyota sadly.
One thing that should be elaborated on regarding the stock bottom end power figures you provided: the 350 HP for STi and 400 HP for Evo is wheel horsepower not at the engine.
I owned a white Evo 5 for 2 years running 380 bhp and I adored it. I now own a 2013 Subaru WRX STI Saloon and it's my pride and joy. The mk2 Yaris is a fine damn car dunno why so much hate on it
As a wrx owner whose dream car is an evo 9 they are very equal in my books no one car is better then the other and that rivalry becoming a brotherhood has made it 10 times better seeing both of these cars on the road on the east coast
I owned a 2013 and 2015 STI. Have hundreds of hours on both at the track. I now have an 2015 EVO which I also track extensively. On track, both STI and EVO have weakness of being nose heavy and under steering into a tight corner. You mitigate this with trail braking, and the EVO is more eager to rotate with this technique. The EVO then has that wonderous S-AYC rear diff that can push power to the outside wheels, allowing application of throttle sooner and even more rotation to point the nose of the car at the apex sooner. So EVO is more fun, intuitive, and faster on the track. The EVO is always doing what you want it to do, with the STI you are mitigating its weaknesses at all times. On twisty, broken tarmac, b roads, the 2015 STI actually gave me the most confidence, owing to its stiff chassis and suspension. The 2013 STI was scary AF, its suspension too soft. The EVO felt like a compromise between the two STIs. On city roads though, the STIs feel much better. EVO feels like a cheap econo rental by comparison. So it all comes down to your preferences on how you define "better".
YARIS are pretty fun cars, i used to rip the cañon road between my home town and the city in one of those little suckers, and trust me it doesnt matter if you have a more powerful car, once you get to the curves the yaris is like a fish in the water
As someone who wrenches on their own car the Evo is the only correct choice. I’d rather change the head gasket on the Evo 20 times over having to struggle with a overly complex flat 4 engines heads .
I also prefer the STI, but let's be honest, like you said, without an EVO, the newer STI isn't an STI, and being they're killing the EJ20, it's over... So many cars have an aggressive rivalry, but for the STI & EVO, the rivalry has a profound respect for one another. I love the STI, but the EVO is it's brother
A lot of people think the EVO/STI rivalry is what made these cars better. It didn't. Both cars were competing in the WRC. That's what mattered. The EVO was still around when the STI started to go downhill in 2007. The STI got soft because Subaru was really not competing to win anymore. Anyone remember the 2008 STI debacle? The best the GR chassis ever did was 3rd place in the WRC and that was with a GD rear suspension conversion. They quit soon after that.
@@salspec3381 I'm sorry man, I don't mean to start an argument but I think you've got your timelines a bit muddled. Subaru started to go downhill in '06 and that was a full year after Mitsubishi withdrew from the championship. Mitsubishi's last good year was 2001 when Tommi fought tooth and nail for the title but lost out to Burns in (Who would have guessed) an Impreza. Mitsubishi would then get two more podiums in '05 and that's it. Subaru won the title in 2003 and stayed until '08 (By the way, the best result for the GR chassis was 2nd on its debut in Greece). After pulling out of the sport we got the Evo IX and the X. Neither of which ever raced in the WRC. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you're incorrect. Was the rally programs a major factor? But given the fact that Mitsubishi launched two entire variants after pulling out of the WRC, I can't help but think that it wasn't all that mattered. Like I said earlier, I don't want to start a fight, it's just an observation.
I work as a valet...and there's a biiiiiig difference between EVO and STI owners. People with EVO's tend to view valet as an imposition (self-park is extremely limited where I work) and will sneer if forced to valet. EVO owners also tend to take complements as being back-handed. STI owners usually don't have as foul an attitude as EVO owners, and are generally more willing to talk about their vehicles whereas EVO owners tend to take any questions you might have as if you're going to try to steal their car or like they have the secret to the universe and you're sniffing around for it.
@@BIAWolf Sounds is subjective, and opinion come into play. I don't think the boxer motor sounds that great. Sure its cool at first with that fun rumble but after a while its more or less "meh"

As a long time STI lover, I would never admit or come to terms with the evo being a better a car. Watching street race videos and builds of evos and sti, it was always clear the evo was better :/ Just sucks Mitsubishi is having an identity crisis. Well done on the video touching all topics!
I'm a Subaru lover and I just can't agree with you sorry. The heritage of rally, the boxer powerplant and the full time all wheel drive are what makes the entire brand for Subaru, it’s a far more holistic company than Mitsubishi. Where Subaru has STI as the pinnacle product for a smaller but tighter family of cars, EVO for Mitsubishi was their racing division and had little to no relation to the wider brand. And as soon as it was clear it wasn’t making them money, Mitsubishi chopped the EVO and, apparently, are looking to turn it into a Crossover so they can break into that segment. Its just totally different cultures and I think that Subaru has always been about the rally-bred, turbocharged flat four, AWD platform really earns them the niche following they have. When you’re talking about the love EVO owners and STI owners have for their cars, its much more than just performance sheets and drag times. I don’t think the average EVO owners cares much about Mitsubishi in the wider sense, just the EVO specifically. STI owners, on the other hand, love Subaru just as much as they love their specific STI and I think that’s the important thing here. Donut goes into this a little bit at 9:40 when talking about the meet differences. There’s no such thing as “Mitsi World” but SubieNation is a huge thing for lovers of the flatfour rumble.
Chris Goodall well said. Donut did touch all of that heritage and culture aspect of the STI throughout the video. But as far as raw performance and reliability... the EVO got it hands down my guy. STI’s are notorious for that ringland failure. I can’t knock you for buying the car for more than just performance that’s cool. But even the earlier model sti’s had Mitsubishi turbos and that says a lot
I've owned both. Had a full bolt on Evo VIII, and a full bolt on GR8. My experience seems to have been the opposite of most. My Evo was bulletproof. Hundreds of launches on the street and strip with next to no failures. My subie? Broke all the time. I put 60k hard miles on the mitsu, and it ran great when I sold it. I only owned the sti for about a year and 10k miles. The Evo handled better, and was quicker, but the subie was more comfortable (can't believe I'm saying that about a Subaru). I'd also like to add that the "Evo X" was a usurper. A poor excuse for an Evo.
@Cameron Regester why would an STI explode at 40k miles? why are you making things up? You know what I think.. most of the faults on a STI isnt actually the cars fault.. but the owner itself.
For what it's worth I almost never see EVOs anymore, even the X. Still see a ton of early 2000s STIs and obviously the newer ones. Still, I prefer the EVO anyday of the week.
WRX owner here. First turbo 4WD I fell in love with was the EVO VIII and IX. But when I turned 17, I had the opportunity to get a brand new car, and the EVO X was way too expensive and soon to be discontinued. Low and behold I'm a happy owner of a '13 WRX in Metallic Grey. Affordability and availability was the main reason for me. Now I just drool over my catback that lets those unequal length headers give that boxer rumble.

It's like daily driving an STI&track driving a baseline impreza (or daily driving an evo&track driving a baseline lancer)
I love the energy of that guy in the evo dyno clip, pure joy on his face lmao
Most STI guys have that same energy when they survive a dyno pull regardless of the power numbers 🤣😂🤣
He’s more of a highlight in this video than the presenter of the video 😂
Nice "All Aspects" decal on a Cali car @10:19. Cheers to my favorite builder, racer, and tuner.
Both are awesome cars, however, the EVO is the one that captures my heart and love for driving with Turbos and AWD.
@Chris L Always hating what junk do u drive kid?

As someone who wrenches on their own car the Evo is the only correct choice. I’d rather change the head gasket on the Evo 20 times over having to struggle with a overly complex flat 4 engines heads .

Subaru fan here, an sti wouldn't an be sti without an evo.
Same
Amen.
So "they're equal, except the STI is still made so it wins".
I mean, okay... even as a Subie owner I think this is a cop-out lol
David Michael he said it himself the sti would not be there without mitsubishi
He could've put another sub section in for "Sound" and then the STI wouldve blown the evo out the water.
I agree.
@@BIAWolf Sounds is subjective, and opinion come into play. I don't think the boxer motor sounds that great. Sure its cool at first with that fun rumble but after a while its more or less "meh"
It’s a win by default
Yea the Evo is becoming a classic car and has been left as a hero, *scores it lower*
Me: bruh
Innit
100% right
i said the same thing when he said that lol
the score was for accessibility. because they have exclusive value, they're harder to obtain.
Also the evo dosent need head gaskets constantly. Even unmodded subarus blow there gaskets so much there junk no one wants them
At 3:18 when he said "for the UK" the footage is actually in Malaysia and the car is most likely a JDM unit.

"Daily an FRS and track a Yaris"
What in the heavens? Lol
Cheap fun on track and killer daily, what's not to love ?
@Conor well guest what .it is
More like hell...
@Conor HP means nothing in roads with bends. A high HP car actually makes you slower in a track with a lot of corners. If you don't believe this check out the FRS touge battle with a bone stock engine FRS with FRS's with turbo's and also an FRS with a H6 engine swap from a legacy. The faster car was the one with the stock engine, lol. Power makes it hard to drive in a straight line let alone corners.
Edit: Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/VOThemNoizo/v-deo.html
Also even in a straight line. Check out the Honda Civic battle where a car with less than 1/2 HP gets 2nd place in a straight line race: ua-cam.com/video/3txs0LDQtCo/v-deo.html

I was told STIs are bad for your health... stay safe amigos
Lol, in the future they might fix there head gasket problems, on there 2.5L, from revvvvvvy Honda bois.

Honestly, I’m a huge fan of both. My heart just belongs to the evo. I’d drive the shit out of a soooobie doe
Same :D
Im the same way except reverse lol i love evos to death but my heart lies in an EJ
Evo is king
Honestly I completely agree with you. I love my lancer but I still kinda want to try an sti
I remember going nuts as a 5 year old when I couldn't buy the STi Type R in GT1. My second favorite car in the game was the Lan Evo IV. The pre-'98 rally livery is the most iconic.
All I can say is that I love my evo. Never gonna get rid of it.
that clip of the Evo going up hill “from the UK” is actually Malaysia. The EJ vs 4G rivalry is a bit like the RB vs JZ
Khaw Ju An ikr bro..Ive seen that vid before lol
RB is to expensive to rival a 2JZ. It was even more financially viable to go for VR38 than an RB26
@@rockzs74r I think a better example would be the ls, hemi, and coyote rivalry. Even though the coyote is expensive as fuck to build. Or if you want to go diesel the powerstroke, duramax, and cummins rivalry.
No hate but how is it said “you can’t have an sti without Mitsubishi” and score it equal
Cause the guy does track days in a Yaris that's why
Because they feed off of each other
@@Nate34 an evo doesn't need to feed off a subaru, the subaru fed off the evo 🤷🏻♂️
kinks pe they came out (road going versions) literally within 2 months. The Evo and the Sti were always side by side.
@@hellorafiki WRX STi won more WRCs though, which is the main reason both cars even existed.
That being said, i like the Evo's styling more. Plus 4G63 seems to be the tougher engine.
Fun fact at 0:00 the first clip of the subie, it is competing in the WRC championship, that particular course took place just a little while out from Perth, Western Australia
As a long time STI lover, I would never admit or come to terms with the evo being a better a car. Watching street race videos and builds of evos and sti, it was always clear the evo was better :/
Just sucks Mitsubishi is having an identity crisis.
Cameron Regester sounds like you forgot to check your oil every time you drive it
Chris Goodall well said.
Prolly cause people think Evos will become collectibles
Being Mitsubishi only sold roughly 22,202 Evo X's in America can explain why you rarely see one.
Pretty obvious, they’re on jack stands!!!
Thomas Nguyen Not anytime soon, most are beat up or on jack stands.
