Yes I assumed that they are divesting their resources from their automotive division towards other more profitable sectors for the conglomerate (like electronics) but still I miss their sports cars from the past.

Mitsubishi is doing really great in South East Asia serving what the market needs and wants. Its just that producing high performance/sports and fun cars like the Eclipse, Lancer, GT doesnt sell well anymore.
Exactly, profit margins are low on them at the best of times. Then the over saturated market we have in north America makes it even harder. I give toyota a big salute for bringing multiple options to the enthusiasts category.
Mitsubishi is doing well in counties like Australia as well , the outlander phev is the best selling phev in that country. All Mitsubishi vehicles are reliable , they bad talk the eclipse cross but the 2022 model is a good crossover and is reliable.
The Mitsubishi Zero was, in many fundamental ways, the EVO of the sky in the first half of WWII. It was eventually severely outclassed by the American muscle cars of the sky in the second half.
Been rollin a 2024 Outlander Black Edition for about a year and I absolutely love it. Stunning minimalist interior, the most attractive body styling in Outlander history, plus it’s very capable out on the trails. HIGHLY recommend 👌
Every single Japanese automaker that exists today made military equipment in WW2. The combination of Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Nissan gets you every plane used to attack Pearl Harbor.
My first ever Mitsu was a 1995 Evo that was louder at the intake then it was at the exhaust. I then got a Cayenne Red Pearl 1998 Eclipse. That was the most fun driving through little back roads in the mountains. My last was a Galant. It was the perfect family car that was still fun to drive. After an illness made me paralyzed in 2016 I gave it to my sister and she still drives it and looks like new.
I don't know how to explain it but I still think the 4G Eclipse is an underrated car. When it released when I was younger it was one of my favorite new cars, and I was shocked to learn that people hated on it so much as I grew up. Only real critique I have is no AWD option.
I had a Montero Sport, that thing was awesome. I gave it to my mother in law with 220K miles when the AC went out, she got it fixed and rode it for like 5 years and then traded it in.
The montero sport and triton/L200 are everywhere outside of America, my dads first truck was a triton, the thing was bulletproof, I’ve driven the new one as well and has a nice interior and great little 2.4 diesel engine which gave me nearly 30mpg, although i think the montero sport would sell way better than a triton in the states, the triton is too much of a work truck compared to the trucks in America, a tad too small and not refined enough
When i was learning to drive my sister had to use my family’s mazda most of the time so she could go to work/school, so i never got much time to learn until my friend eddie let me practice on his old montero, thing was an absolute beast, we had zero problems with it until around 300,000km when the trans went on strike
People don't understand that Mitsubishi NEVER cared about the fans. All they care about is sales. They didn't even want to make the original EVO and when the EVO stopped bringing money in, they stopped and went with the next thing
They were being real to themselves. Enthusiasts are always dreaming about the days of yore or want a car that the mass market doesn't want or can afford. Mitsubishi is a big seller everywhere else but in the US. Personally, the exterior design of their current lineup is a little too much for me.
I've owned R32s, R33s and R34s, H series, B series and K series Hondas, SR20det S14, 1JZ JZX90 MK2 and 2JZ Soarer. Ive owned my Evo 8 for 4 years now and no doubt its my favourite out of the previous cars I've owned.
I think a very important, or rather a few important notes here would be: 1) Mitsubishi Motors is NOT even a part of the Mitsubishi Group's core. Mitsubishi Motors is a small part of Mitsubishi and was formerly a subsidiary under Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. 2) Mitsubishi Motor's change from "passion" cars to more practical ones have actually boosted their business revenues and is a very strong brand outside of N. America. In many places, Mitsubishi often rivals Toyota. So, downfall? Hardly. Mitsubishi is primarily a financial, heavy machinery, mining, energy, electrical, and defense industries that makes cars on the sidelines.
Mitsubishi was once great, even building a rival to the skyline GT-R - The GTO twin turbo, a car that beat the skyline on paper. They had the eclipse, a strong rival in the entry level market. And of course, the lancer Evo, the rally bred monster machine that ate everything in it's path. But now, the eclipse is an SUV and the last time Mitsubishi made a turbocharged 2 door car was the aforementioned GTO, which lasted only 1 generation. Even the Evo X was a shadow of the previous cars.
@@twizted3k 4 refreshes (90-93, 94-96, 97-98, 99-00) but no actual generations. They’re all the same chassis just with minor changes sorta like the S5 / S4 rx7 FC
Tbh the 4b11 is a big improvement over the 4g63 in several areas including turbo spool time, head flow and rpm. The one negative is the aluminum block with a semi-closed deck. It just cant take higher boost pressures. But you can get more out of it with lower boost pressures because the heads flow dramatically better and more consistent.
The thing is, Mitsubishi is making tons of money in Asia selling SUV's (Pajero sport/Montero Sport), Outlander phev and the Triton(Strada), plus small cars like the mirage and Xpander, Xforce. Plus they make a ton of industrial equipment. So I don't think they will release anything exciting very soon Maybe we can start a petition for Mitsubishi to become cool again.
Nah mate, unless Toyota take over Mitsubishi from shitty Nissan/Renault alliance so there's nothing we can do about it. Their recent revival of Ralliart is just sucks ass. Atleast im hoping they could do some hardcore Ralliart version for Mirage,Attrage but it seems impossible tho.
Fun Fact, the Mitsubishi plant in Bloomington/Normal is now the Rivian plant. Growing up in the area, I give Mitsubishi the credit for my love of JDM cars. probably the same thing as every other manufacturer. all these car enthusiasts say "omg what a great car... can't wait to buy it after 10 years in the second hand market." and combine that with the fact that these sportier cars are sold far less often, you get an overall stupid financial decision for manufacturers to make "cool" cars. not to mention the ongoing trend of older people typically being the only demographic with enough money to buy cars and what's the deal with older people? they don't want a low riding, stiffer than rocks suspension, extreme NVH sports car. they want something more quiet, comfortable, easy to use so why should manufacturers cater to a minority? they go out all their way to make a car that enthusiasts like, only to find out that they complain about anything and everything, and only 10-20% of this demographic actually has money to buy the car to begin with...
I mean, I'd say it's more of a socioeconomic problem that car enthusiasts in their 20s - 30s can't afford sports cars new. How many of those younger enthusiasts do you know who can justify dropping 30, 40, 50k or even more on a new car? It's just sad...
@@Jumbojet776 i would agree. there's a lot of financial stress on those younger generations whether it is student debt, mortgage, marriage, entry level jobs, list goes on. hence why manufacturers don't cater to this minority and rightfully so.
Exactly they expect Mitsubishi to make costly cars that sell in low volumes , even though the company was struggling financially. It's not very realistic. Not to mention, that there are strict emissions laws now in most countries , companies get fined when their emissions exceed a certain amount The way foward now is ev because counties like Europe are pushing petrol cars out.

No FTO or Mirage Cyborg!? The 4G92 MIVEC made more horsepower per liter than any normally aspirated engine in the world at the time of its introduction. The CJ4A RS/ ZR and RX made 174HP from a 1.6 NA engine in 1995 and the CA4A in 1992!

in the US they're actually pretty cheap still. only around 12k for a decent one. However if you want a 1999 VR4, that will cost about 3-4x as much because there are less than 250 99 VR4's still on the road.

Mitsubishi was one of my favorite car companies of all time. I had a 99 Eclipse and a 2001 Eclipse and they were great cars. One of the best things was the aftermarket exploded after The Fast and The Furious came out. You could get 500+ hp for super cheap and blow the doors of just about any other car on the road at the time.
Mitsubishi had it rough in th e 90’s taking on Toyota, Honda, and Nissan with fwd and going against Subaru with the awd side. Then the Japanese stock market really messed them up.

Which is why their factories were destroyed. Just like America and Nazi Germany, civilian manufacturers were co-opted to build war machines. Not saying it's good or bad. Just saying it's what happened.
@@PhilhellenicAgori I don't think so. It could out turn and out climb all allied fighters until the Hellcat came in 1943. And even then the only tactic was slash and dash. The Zero is a to 10 contender in many best of lists.

I recently went to Japan. Mitsubishi is everywhere, not just on the street. It seems like they're focusing on their appliances and public transport, but I still miss seeing what brought them to the greenlight.

mitsubishi makes everything from electronics and a/c to tanks and AA systems , they dont rly care abt cars anymore
@@bryanlolwtf04 It's not inherently a matter of diversifying, just like Subaru (FHI) Mitsu has always been Mistubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), they've made these things for decades (think WW2 planes along with air conditioners and other equipment) and that's what allowed them to build good cars, they have a lot of manufacturering in-house, not sure what their infrastructure is nowadays but since they're still incredible appliance manufacturers I'm sure if they cared enough to put the money in they can easily make a quality yet affordable car that has some excitement - albeit unlikely considering they seem to be focused on profits over public image
Mitsubishi is doing really great in South East Asia serving what the market needs and wants. Its just that producing high performance/sports and fun cars like the Eclipse, Lancer, GT doesnt sell well anymore.

The Montero would probably unironically bring Mitsubishi back to a competitive state here in the US, my Mom had one and she loved that car.
I have one and can confirm your mom is right
I had a Montero Sport, that thing was awesome.
They'll have to find a good petrol engine if they decide to bring the Montero (Sport) back to North America. Maybe the 3.8 V6 from the Frontier?

I think a very important, or rather a few important notes here would be:
1) Mitsubishi Motors is NOT even a part of the Mitsubishi Group's core.
Don't forget chemical (which includes the branch I work within)
Mitsubishi was once great, even building a rival to the skyline GT-R - The GTO twin turbo, a car that beat the skyline on paper.
The GTO was 3 generations and it beat the Skyline on paper and at Pikes Peak multiple years.
@@twizted3k 4 refreshes (90-93, 94-96, 97-98, 99-00) but no actual generations. They’re all the same chassis just with minor changes sorta like the S5 / S4 rx7 FC
I think the evo X is pretty badass. That 4b11 can take a beating
@@Nitro-fu7rv I don't mean to hate on that car, it's still a very impressive machine. But I think the earlier Evos were a different level.
The thing is, Mitsubishi is making tons of money in Asia selling SUV's (Pajero sport/Montero Sport), Outlander phev and the Triton(Strada), plus small cars like the mirage and Xpander, Xforce. Plus they make a ton of industrial equipment. So I don't think they will release anything exciting very soon

probably the same thing as every other manufacturer. all these car enthusiasts say "omg what a great car... can't wait to buy it after 10 years in the second hand market." and combine that with the fact that these sportier cars are sold far less often, you get an overall stupid financial decision for manufacturers to make "cool" cars.
not to mention the ongoing trend of older people typically being the only demographic with enough money to buy cars and what's the deal with older people? they don't want a low riding, stiffer than rocks suspension, extreme NVH sports car. they want something more quiet, comfortable, easy to use so why should manufacturers cater to a minority? they go out all their way to make a car that enthusiasts like, only to find out that they complain about anything and everything, and only 10-20% of this demographic actually has money to buy the car to begin with...

I love how useless the beep is at 15:36
was gonna say lol
all car manufacterers make cars ACCORDING to market sales . its actually you lots fault that the evo and eclipse died .
if you lots actually are a car enthusiasts , you all would continue buying the evo .
but the truth is , the evo died , BECAUSE IT HAD LOW SALES VALUE . NO ONE IS BUYING THEM .
SUV market is RISING LIKE CRAZY , which is why all car manufacterers are switching to suv models .
they only car about business , if people wants suv then suv it is .
they want the evo back but 99% of them would never actually buy it, these guys are in denial
Mitsubishi manufacturers some of the best PHEV 's on the planet
Why does everyone need an suv? Most people just use them like vans with the added negative of me not being able to see past anyone in my normal ass car.
Because people dont want to look like a lame dork in a minivan or proper van, which.... In my opinion, actually makes them more lame rather than cool for avoiding the rational choice of vans to do the job its better fit to do.
😂
Women buy them on the purposes of sitting up high and having lots of room for shit.
@@PlatinumNathI've seen some sick clapped out minivans, they can make em seem sick especially with the sleeper engines they have
And this stigma that minivans are "dorky" is exactly why cuvs exist. Pointless ass vehicles.
Suvs I'll give a pass because those you can take off road if need be.
"rub a little fender" is now a euphemism.
When used in a sentence.
"the 4G6 is the kind of tuning engine that makes you (rub a little fender)"
Totally awesome that Miguel let you guys borrow his DSM for the video!!! I recognized it was his the second I seen it
I'm still carrying the torch. You'll pry me out of my 2004 Lancer ES.
2011 outlander sport. 4b11. gonna slap a turbo on it rocking 108k miles
Man I got a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse with 330k miles and still dives brand new I got it detailed looks exactly like how it looked in 03
@@UncleTony2 i salute you. I'm bout to clean my shit tommrw have her mint cuz uncle Tony said so!!!
Same
My 91 VR4 was a joy to drive while it was driving :P
While it was driving ... spoken like a true DSM enthusiast!
@@jeremyjohnson2129 somone who knows :D
Don’t get too wild with the parts. Then she is reliable. But then again... Damn you Apexi 😂
What the heck happened to Mitsubishi and Subaru! Mitsubishi turned the Eclipse in to a SUV and I recently learned my new WRX is built off a SUV (global platform so Ascent chassic, engine, and entire drivetrain front to back).
I miss my 97 eclipse 🥲 it’s been 12 years…
Now I’m 30 and drive a Raptor but I miss my DSM…
Me too man I had a 96 2ga gsx in the Celtic blue pearl they only ran that color in 96 and made like 3k of them. Was super rare to see. Went to meets for years and never saw another one in the same color. A lot of people don’t even know that color existed. Sad day when I got tboned going to a meet.
I remember in the early 2000s mechanics saying they hated working on Mitsubishis. They would say give me a Subaru, Honda or Toyota any day.
I would curse a lot working on my 1st gen eclipse, but in hindsight no different then really any other car of that era.
That car was way easier to work on then most of them today. I could replace the alternator on my eclipse in 30 minutes in the parking lot, meanwhile my wife's Hyundai v6 requires you to remove the fender well and unbolt the ac compressor!
@@jeremyjohnson2129 ..yeah on a 3rd gen prius, to replace the headlight housing theres 3 bolts to remove each one.. 2 are easily accessable from the top, but of course that 3rd bolt is hidden under the bumper, so you gotta waste an extra 30mins or more and drop the whole front for that one stupid screw..
..And to swap the spark plugs, you gotta take off the windshield wipers/motor and the 30 bolts holding the housing its attached too..
I had a 79 Malibu that blew its water pump a block from an auto zone once, and fixed it and the belt in under 30mins.. im gettin to old for this!
Mechanics complain about every case they work on. I’ll never trust a mechanic’s opinion of a car.
Subaru is the worse car to work on for a mechanic with those boxer engines. Even the current boxer engines are not that great , they burn oil like crazy
Honda was also on a decline , the last gen crv had oil dilution and failed head gaskets, Mitsubishi current engines are much more reliable than subaru and honda
@@pnw_jordan yeah all engines are basically standard now, mechanics just like to complain
Mitsubishi gave up around 2013. I'm surprised the company is still even making cars.
All Mitsubishi would have to do is come out with a proper Evo or Eclipse concept car (not some crossover bullshit) with likelihood of making production and people would care again, it's not rocket science
They’d do that and then nobody would buy it because sports cars don’t make money
@@dawsongranger4940 It doesn’t have to. If Mitsubishi created a banging Evo (and sold a coupe version called the Eclipse), had it beat out the other hot econo cars like the Civic Type R, Elantra N, WRX/STI, Golf R etc. and sold it at a reasonable price but in limited quantities at first they’d sell fast. Yes it would likely be a Loss Leader (economic term I recommend looking up), but like Toyota has done for coming on 3 decades of loss leaders in the LS400, Lexus LFA and now GR corolla, the Evo/Eclipse would easily win over the enthusiast car market that’s been left dead in the water for decades and the surrounding hype would bring up sales across the brand’s fleet. The cars they do sell are fine now, they just need to get their name known for making good cars for both the enthusiast and casual crowd again.
Subaru discontinued the STi. It’s over sadly.
@@dawsongranger4940 The point of sports cars/halo cars isn't to make money and never has been, it's to get people interested in the brand. Donut even did a whole video on this. They go into it knowing they will lose money, but be able to showcase their designs and engineering. A car company only interested in bean counting is one most of us will stop caring about quickly
Bring back the GALANT, Mitsubishi!
17:52 I think the problem is ego.
I'm 41 years old, so I grew up during that Turning era. My mom owned a 1994 Gallant, so it's sad to see the company collapse like it did.
Granted, I work in Oil and Gas rigs, so I don't have use for sports cars, but if like to see them back.
You think Mitsubishi sales are bad? Fiat has sold 9,000 cars over the last 5 years in the US 😂
@xMetalxNC yeah, but they've sold about 750 Fiats so far in 2024 in the US. They have to be losing money on that
I didnt even know they dell fiats here in the US😆 granted I've only been here for 6years but i visited a lot of states and i have never seen fiats.
Edit: Sell**
@xMetalxNC im suprised the spider didnt sell well, its a good competitor for the Miata's. found a 15k miles on carmax for only $23k. is it not a good car?
Nio sold 3 cars last month in germany
@xMetalxNCIt's not Fiat group any more.. it's Stellantis has been for quite a few years now. Even more brands.. and most of them rubbish .
No company is what it once was.
Mitsubishi will hopefully make some fun cars again. 😢
I think about the influence donut media has on the new/used car market with videos like these. Also up to speed much love! ❣️
You never fail to surprise us!
Pretty sure they'll outlive Donut Media
Owned a 2010 gsr stage 2. Amazing fun to drive in all weather conditions
Is that Miguel’s dsm 0:14
Seems to be, he has sick Eclipse n 3000GT
Yes it is.
It's Miguel's car in the thumbnail they just photoshopped the color you can tell by the seats and the wheels.
Yes
@@fullweezy3553 definitely curious as to why. The first day it dropped the thumbnail was thr original color
In europe the colt returned, as a clio rebadged, but returned, and its a clio so its a fun light funny car to drive, i was expenting for you guys to get it but seems like not, but yeah its the begining of the return of the cool cars
Funny thing is, they sell more of those rebadges in Germany than Renault does 😂 better warranty and overall brand reliability
And the new generation ASX (which is the RVR in North America) is just a rebadged Renault Captur. At least the ASX is no longer outdated. But because it's now a rebadged Renault Captur, it's not coming to North America as a next gen RVR. I'm sure the RVR got discontinued in North America after 2021.
Also weird mention but your crew motorfest playlist was HELL especially the ford one
Well shit, I own a mitsubishi Outlander and i really love it. It's nice to have something reliable next to the shit boxes.
💯
It is part of the shitboxes hey.
Also have an Outlander sport, what donut doesn’t get is that these are the bread and butter cars that actually male they money, if the base is sorted they can yet again start to pursue some exciting vehicles that sells 1 for every 100 appliances.
Maybe im a shit box but the appeal of these crossovers are small, easy to use family cars that are uncomplicated and reliable.
It doesnt come close to our A3 in terms of quality feel and ride, but why am i having sleepless nights about the audi being out of maintenance plan next year?
@@semicolon101 actually, I have the 2016 outlander phev and it’s a bit boring with all its features, but it’s comfy and reliable. Far from a shitbox, now my Land Rover. Series 3 that’s a whole different story. Haha
