Kava can cause liver failure you are insane for promoting that shit it is toxic for the liver ❗️❗️❗️
What you needed a study to tell you that ?..... Worrying.
I hate alcohol and haven’t drank in years. It’s toxic and an awful buzz. That said, banning it isn’t the answer. Freedom is important, and REAL education with freedom is a beautiful thing.
Cocaine not freedom?
Same.
So well said
Hate is unintelligent.
Sometimes freedom doesn't matter
More of these videos need to exist. I drank for over 40 years, after work only. I considered myself fully functional and fairly successful. I quit drinking over two months ago, and ALL of my health issues which I was attributing to old age are either in full remission or have completely gone away. I was on blood pressure medication for 24 years. Now my BP is completely normal. I was on statins for cholestorol for 15 years. My dosage is cut in half and numbers are trending toward needing zero medications. I was having anger and emotional issues. My attitude has completely changed and find myself smiling for no reason at all. I have more money...probably $400/month more. My sleep..omg...I had sleep issues for years too and now I sleep LESS and feel BETTER when I wake up. My veil has been lifted. I encourage everyone to lift their veil. Try it, and if you can get past the first 30-60 days, you will be amazed.
So happy for you. I'm 30 and going on 2 years. The depression/anger is a real thing. Not to mention physical health.

My Mum was brought up not to drink but my Dad would get black out drunk every week end like everyone else in his town when growing up (at 14 he needed to get his stomach pumped because he drank too much and passed out in the street) When he met my Mum at 30 he gave up drinking completely. He's 62 now and hasn't drank since and his health and fitness is fantastic for his age. I'm really thankful that I was brought up not to drink alcohol, I'm 29 and I've never had a full glass of wine or a can of beer in my life
At age 69 I could not begin to estimate how many beers I have drank since I was 16. Thousands, many thousands. I still drink 2-3 beers a night but this video has me thinking about dropping the alcohol all together. It really does not do much for me now except damage my health. Thanks for this👍
Trust me, ur not aware until ur off it. My sister drinks a lot of beer, and shes kinda fuked up, accusing people of stuff, but she doesnt remember she said it and stuff. Alcohol psychoism. its a real thing. I'm just drinking green and black cofffee these days. Sometimes mixed berry smoothies, way healthier and tastier! Alcohol can help with short term depression, but so can blueberries, and blackberries.
Bullshit. Beer, wine, and liquor, in lite moderation, usually on days when doing more strenuous physical activity, are absolutely healthy, per results. And, it's going to be case by case, some people don't handle it well, some do, and thrive with it, in lite-moderation, not to excess. Absolutely healthy, body health optimism, prudently consumed,…. not necessarily as a 'social lubricant' or 'social drinking',… but rather just a staple commonly consumed beverage, per individual. And, you have to eat adequately well. I eat meat, truly raw dairy, fruits, veggies, water,…. and some quality fundamental alcoholic beverages in lite moderation.
You will love being sober.
You will love truth, when you understand truth. @@JavierCespedes90
Just be careful. Alcohol is one of the few substances that people can die from quitting cold turkey. But I feel like that says how important not being dependent on alcohol is.
For many years, I was CONVINCED I had undiagnosed ADD/ADHD. I was a relatively heavy drinker, basically a functional alcoholic. Almost always I would have a few beers after work. It was just a part of my daily routine from about age 19 to 30. I didn't think having 2 or 3 beers a day was that big of a deal. I wasn't getting wasted, black out drunk or anything right?
That was until a friend of mine challenged me to do Dry January to prove to him I didn't have a problem. This was a month that changed me forever. The first 2 weeks was kind of awful, but then WOW. My short term memory came back, I was sharper, my brain fog went away, I had WAY more energy. It was a big wake up call. Daily drinking was robbing me of my full potential. Dry January turned into a dry life.
I haven't had a drink for nearly a full year and everything about my life, inside and out has changed for the better. Oh and the beer gut is gone, lost nearly 30lbs. Booze just isn't worth it.
meditate on why you crave alcohol. think about it.
then, associate alcohol with feeling sick. I now even think about booze and think about being hungover and feeling sluggish. It took me over a year to train my brain like this.
Sleep is what finally got me to quit. I was trying to take a month off from drinking, and by the third week I was sleeping like a baby every night. Better than I had in twenty years. I felt so good, I just couldn’t go back. Then I lost a pound a week for the first three months. I feel ten years younger and that’s the only change I made. And I wasn’t even drinking that much, maybe 1-2 a day.
You drop water weight quick when you stop, less inflammation so joints feel good too.
you’re fine. that’s a very acceptable amount.
@@vinny-zm5vo It was an “acceptable “ amount. That’s my point, even an acceptable amount can wreck havoc on your hormones, which will affect everything from sleep to weight loss. Is any alcohol really acceptable? You might think so, but you’re probably just used to it so you don’t notice what it’s doing to you. There’s a difference between what’s socially acceptable and what’s acceptable for health and well being.
Same here man quit alcohol a month ago. At 53 going hard even 2 days a week was taking days upon days to recover. Developed a discomfort under my right rib diagnosed with mild fatty liver. Have always exercised 4-5 days a week but couldn’t drop a pound in recent years . Without drastically changing my diet I’ve lost 16 lbs in just over a month cutting out booze. My sleep is better less aches and pains and the pain under my right rib has subsided .

Well, one of my cats has a liver problem. (We don't know why. Maybe he's been sneaking out to bars looking for chicks.) Anyway, the vet highly suggested a supplement called Denamarin. It's basically milk thistle and SamE. It has DRAMATICALLY cut back on his vomiting and he's eating better again. There is a generic version on a certain A site for cheaper...about $21/month. My guy friend who drinks a lot takes milk thistle to HOPEFULLY undo his daily damage.

Sobriety is not a journey it’s a joke. Just be responsible and if you can’t be responsible don’t touch it.
How do you explain Italy and France. In Italy they drink wine at lunch and dinner but they don’t drink to get drunk. They also have the highest elderly population into there 90’s with less dementia. I from Italy, They are eat better and walk more with no added gluten in there foods or chemicals in there wine.
That's a good question. I think here we treat it as much more a self medication from daily stressors. Not saying those countries don't stress but have different outlooks.
Great question and I think you’ve answer it to an extent. We’re dealing with the SAD and the fact that ppl in the USA don’t embrace community, walking, and moderation like Italy does.
They exercise and socialize more than americans
Exactly.
I’m learning how to care for my body and sculpt the body I want, while living longer- all more in those videos than anywhere else in my life combined. Thanks so much, Thomas!
This was excellent. Thank you, Thomas, for researching and sharing this important health information. Merry Christmas.
I haven't had a drink since the 80's. But banning alcohol was tried and ended up causing more trouble than the horrible effects of alcohol. Prohibition was a disaster in so many ways.
Then the question that sticks out is why is any drug illegal? There is not a simple solution to any drug issue of usage. Alcohol should be way more regulated than it is as it is a heavy drug in reality. It may just take longer to show the effects. But the whole hing is a very difficult problem. I probably will not see any solution in my lifetime even if I increase my longevity a massive amount.
@@carlray6010 when prohibition was repealed the government decided that drugs would become controlled substances by the FDA. 20 years before that was unconstitutional but a conservative court ruled the FDA could regulate drugs but not alcohol and tobacco.

Good stuff! Great channel, glad to subscribe.
At 34 years old, I've recently in the last 3 weeks, come to terms with the fact I needed to quit. I've listened to two separate audio books in the last couple of weeks that really put things into perspective for me. Alcohol is really an insidious poison in our societies... I'm almost at 4 weeks, if I can white knuckle it through the holiday season, I've got high hopes.
Class of 08 unite!!
Also 34. I bought my home 5 years ago. Since moving out from living with my old college friends, all of us have slowly just naturally stopped drinking. It was just a social thing living in a house with 3-4 guys. We werent super alcoholics... but we bing drank at once a week. Without that social aspect, I just stopped casually having a beer here and there, which led me to not purchase beer, which led me to basically just not drink anymore. I'll have a drink once a month if I go out with friends. But at home, my wife and I just dont need alcohol. Im lucky that I didn't have a need to force myself to quit... it just kinda happend naturally.
@@PMTcommenterI was hoping one day I’d quit naturally and I think I’m at the point where I’m just kinda done with drinking.

So simple. This message real needs to be spread.
As a sober person, this makes me so happy
I am 27 and I have drank beer and wine ( rarely in some social situations where I feel forced to ) . Nowadays I stopped doing that too as I never really enjoyed alcohol. Whenever someone proposes me alcohol I decline and go for a non alcoholic alternative and water in the worst case . It’s a shame that many of us feel forced to drink alcohol just to fit in :(
Don't my sister got alcohol psychosis from it, and shes accuses people of bad things, but they never did shit. Alcohol can really change people. shes not even a heavy drinker either.
True. I've noticed huge differences in people drinking vs not.
You have to hang out with people that don’t drink which is rare. But think about it. If your friends love going on hikes but you don’t hike, are you going to hang out with them? It’s the same thing.
@@double_joseph327 I agree . Some years ago I had this pressure . Right now I know to fix boundaries and I don’t feel the need to fit in . Also I choose better circles . But I know that many people especially young people struggle with this . And it’s sad .

Outstanding, Thomas. Thank you for this post.
I disagree with the title. Casual drinking compared to cigarette smoking, the smoking is most likely far more dangerous. Maybe if it said heavy drinking is more dangerous than smoking or equally as dangerous as smoking. Some prescription drugs are far more dangerous than both. Not to mention the things we can barely control like nanoplastics and forever chemicals in pretty much everything. Stress relief and winding down and socializing responsibly are far better ways to live than to constantly be stressed about what your eating and drinking and hoping you can give up everything enjoyable so you might live 5 years longer. Everything in moderation, be practical and manage your stress in a reasonable fashion. Going back to living like a caveman is not my idea of living a fun and satisfactory life...but, if thats what makes you happy, then have at it.
Wow, someone with some common sense! Imagine that. Seems like a lot of trends lately focus on eliminating everything that’s bad when over consumed, yet we need to replace it with carefully placed products being marketed as life extenders. Moderation, moderation, moderation…..lost art.

Not condoning heavy drinking, but my grandpa has been a heavy drinker, daily, for at least 40 years, and he is in his 90s. His memory isn't great, but he's still alive. My other grandpa died much younger, and didn't drink a drop of alcohol in at least his last 30 years.
Interesting most likely not the norm but I so wish it was researched in a way that people were honest about their alcohol consumption and their health issues. It is a complicated addiction and a difficult one to truly find good studies that are not biased.
Exceptions to the rule
Thank you so much
How appropriate for this to come out during the holiday season! Thanks Thomas!😂
I hate that from my early 20s to my early 40s I drank moderately to occasionally heavily. Socially accepted and all those phony articles about how moderate drinking was healthy. I haven’t drank in two years. Hope I’m able to reverse a majority of any damage from those years. I know people actually drinking more and more into their 40s.
I stopped drinking alcohol a year ago and mostly because of Thomas and Andrew Huberman's info. It's so socially acceptable and I hate having to justify why I don't want to drink. I mainly quit because of the depletion of vitamin B1, the effects on my digestion and sleep. I do like smoking weed every now and then...I'm not perfect.
Thank you ❤

Thanks Thomas! I needed this message. It’s so easy to pour a glass of wine out of habit! My challenge is when visiting my family of guzzlers. I plan to be armed with alternatives for the holiday. And, I might have to revisit this video over & over so it will rewrite my brain code! Thanks for the accurate data!
This all comes down to a decision. Your health and longevity. I have people in my life that drink like a fish! I'm sending them this video. Thanks Thomas. You've often said that you're the nerd when it comes to studies because you're so into it. Well, you're a logical nerd and we all need to pay attention to these studies. Many thanks!!!
Thank you, ordered the electrolyte mix.
In my experience, people that drink more tend to also be those that don’t pay attention to their diet and don’t exercise much. Along those lines I think studies that only show alcohol consumption without accounting for diet and activity level lack the whole picture. Inversely I’ve known people that drink a little but are excellent when it comes to diet and exercise and continued to be sharp and fit into their senior years. Studies are too narrow.
I'm in the middle of a 90-day no booze period and I am absolutely shocked by the weight loss. It's stunning. And, I've been eating MORE sugar and junk to replace the calories I've been missing with the beer, and my weight is still not going up. I have learned that my baseline weight is actually nearly 10 lbs less than I thought it was.
Keep it up! You Got This 👍🏻 That’s natural to crave sugar for awhile eventually especially if you go on keto or low carb you’ll find it easier to quit sugar also because you’ll feel satiated with the extra healthy fats.

Why would he drink himself to death
I'm 67 years old, and as a man of about 19. I saw an article about moderate drinkers living longer. The social interaction is what I believe to be the only benefit. I really like my white and gray matter, and haven't had a drink in over 9 years. If I have questions about anything health related issues I go to pubmed. I did this with the first dozen or so videos I saw from this channel, and now I hardly ever do. Unless it's just unbelievable then I find myself pleasantly surprised.
Truly awesome content.
The science is clear that social interaction is not the only benefit.
You're a hero for getting this message out there !
My parents never touched alcohol. My father smoked and was over weight. His cancers and heart attacks started at age 50. My mother never smoked (excepted for second hand) but was also over weight. She made it to 62 after years of heart problems and cognitive decline. Seems to me the only way to stay healthy is to exercise, control your diet and avoid anything toxic. If you this then you will need to also start watching out for falling tree limbs because something will get you. It’s just a matter of time.
More of these videos need to be rolled out and fast. The fact that it isn't more spoken about is rather alarming! I always knew alcohol was harmful. From watching the content from both @ThomasDeLauer and @LouisaNicola, on the numerous harmful effects of alcohol especially on the brain, and now this video truly says it all.
I've recently decided to stop drinking, I was going to wait til the new year but I've been experiencing gut issues (dysbiosis) related to an increase in alcohol over the last few months
I appreciate you giving alternatives. The study results are not surprising though
Thank you for shinning light on this topic! Society/commercials etc. Say "drink responsibly" and then when the person doesn't, the shame blame game happens and then their labeled as an "alcoholic" ( which is not even scientifically correct because someone who uses cocaine isn't called a cocainaholic etc). What has helped me is this program called "This Naked Mind" ( the free 30 day alcohol experiment with Annie Grace) which educates you on what alcohol does to your body. I'm over 2 months alcohol-free and don't even desire it. Without desire there is no temptation. All the best everyone🤗
If I could change one habit from my university and post universities days, it would be to NOT engage in all the binge drinking I did at the time. At this point in my life, I might have a drink for the holidays or get together with friends. But unlike those early days, I'll stop at one. And I don't feel guilty when I do have that ONE drink.
Great job, 💪🏽if you booze you lose

It’s not banned because we still live in a somewhat free nation. It’s the same reason why non-pasteurized milk and marijuana, and soda, and cigarettes, and popcorn, and kombucha, and kefir and sauerkraut and kimchi aren’t banned. Life and lifestyle are a CHOICE that free people, who are of “THE PEOPLE” have the God given RIGHT to choose or not to choose to exercise. If you want to make government run healthcare less encumbered by people who choose to live an unhealthy lifestyle, then limit funding of and access to that program to only those who sign up and only those who meet agreed upon criteria. Then, those people who would chose to surrender their rights to free choice can fund and utilize that program. That’s what a free choice society looks like and is.
Yup
So true

Except marijuana was illegal for many years. And raw milk is still illegal in many states. You're going to tell me raw milk (properly acquired from pastured cows) is more dangerous than alcohol? GTFO of here. Government is absolutely strangling plenty of freedoms.
The playing field is not even here. Alcohol industry has lobbied to make sure that nothing happens because it's an insanely profitable business. Literally fueled by addicts.

Passionate and true
Growing up in the UK we would tend to get drunk mostly at weekends and a lot of people would start drinking at around 15 years old. There was definitely a drinking culture at colleges (16-18) and universities (18+) I stopped drinking when I became pregnant and have barely drank since, maybe an occasional glass at Christmas or a celebration. My son is now 25 and I'm so glad I moved away from alcohol. So many people I know can barely go a night without a glass of wine or spirits and the glasses now compared to the ones people used back in the 60's and 70's means they are having a lot more than the maximum daily recommendations from our health service. Thanks to cheaper booze in the supermarkets people here tend to drink in the week after work as well as at the weekends these days.
Sweeteners have given me heart problems. Fresh squeezed citrus juice and organic coffees/teas is the best for me. It’s just simpler than anything packaged.

Agree with the video. Just wondering if its the chemicals they use when growing the fruit or vegetables like fertilizer or weed spraying pesticides that is causing the health problems
Seriously? Do you think it could be the actual alcohol that's causing the problems? 😂😂
Some of it for sure.
For sure it is that. Definitely not the stress, alcohol, junk food, inactivity, lack of sleep etc.
I am glad to see and hear you spilling the facts about what I consider to be "society's infection" (quote from a Slayer song). After spending 10 yrs as a working professional musician, I have seen some very stupid, illogical, annoying behavior that alcohol seems to induce. I was never much of a drinker, and when I turned 40, I cut out the casual beer or martini etc.. I'm now 67 and in good health. After observing and being involved with drinkers, I came up with a term for alcohol..."Christian Aphrodisiac"...Sadly, it seems that many people need to consume it in order to have a sexual experience...it is a very "Jeckyl and Hyde" kind of drug, that people should avoid, but sadly it seems to be acceptable....go figure...??
Because they changed the story of Jesus, saying he drank wine etc so that it became acceptable and profitable. Same with pork.

On the topic of why alcohol isn't banned: This operates under the assumption that the powerful in this country actually would care about our general health or longevity. Turns out they don't. It's all just about making money but keeping you sick. Alcohol is a way we seek to medicate ourselves which creates further problems requiring treatment and medication. Sickness in, sickness out.
Have you ever read anything about early 20th Century American history? Like from the 1920's and 30's?
Alcohol has been consumed since the beginning of written history. It isn't a conspiracy by evil elites to keep people sick, it's general human culture. We don't always do what's good for us and Alcohol has a way of bringing people together. Is it bad if consumed regularly? Yes. Is it bad if consumed on special occasions or from time to time? No.
@@taylorlibby7642 I assume you're referring to Prohibition? Yes, I am familiar.
@@85jongo Then you've been educated on the reasons besides sales and tax revenue that a ban didn't work but you've chosen to ignore them?
@@taylorlibby7642 I think you're operating under the assumption that reasons that applied 90-100 years ago are the same that apply today. That's quite an assumption to make whether it was true or not at the time. I do not disagree with you mentioning those reasons in regard to Prohibition and it's historical context. It should also be mentioned that Prohibition was largely initiated by specific religious groups that garnered a bipartisan majority which made the 18th Amendment possible. I am not aware of a similar climate existing among religious groups today on the same scale. I think it's a leap to say the current political/social/economic forces that influence how alcohol is regulated or not in America today should be understood by the context of the early 20th century. A lot has changed.
They tried to ban alcohol...that was a disaster...the government need to not try to ban drugs or alcohol...It's a waste of money legislating morality...
On top of all that you've said here, Thomas, the American Cancer Society now says that the safe amount of alcohol to consume is ZERO.
Thanks I’ll try hop water 👍
And yet, people in the Mediterranean regions with the highly touted diet for long life have red wine with every lunch and dinner.
Olive oil is the key in the Mediterranean diet, not wine, thanks!
@@mikepimentel280 They still drink a lot of red wine and live long lives.
They tried to ban it.. it didn’t work. Who are you to think we all need this to happen?
I don’t drink, but, I don’t get into anyone’s business about them drinking.
10% of adults have a problem in America. 12% in men and 23% women.
This video was just what I needed! I quit drinking just over 4 months ago and I've been wondering if having a few drinks over the Holidays would be that big of a deal and now I know it's not worth it. I was never a heavy drinker, but I finally decided it was just a waste of money and abuse to my body. I've replaced the occasional drinks with Kombucha and flavored sparkling water. Thanks for the info!
Keep it up!
Is LMNT suitable for endurance exercise hydration?
Alcohol is so toxic. It's so obvious but so many people don't see it.
We need physical places for adults to socialize without alcohol.
We need "rituals" for adults without alcohol.
However as long as it remains so financially profitable alcohol will "bully" single adults who want to socialize.
I drank to excess for decades, I haven't had drink in years, and have no desire to drink, but advice on ways to undo the tears of damage would be a great video idea
I can vouch for Hop WTR. It’s amazing. Some grocery store chains sell it and I think Target does
Overall we need more videos about this. I haven't drank in over 12 years because I never acquired a taste for it and probably never will, God Willing. I do not feel peer pressured, I do not care what people think because I don't drink because I know it's not good for you. Its link to Alzheimer's is terrifying. Thank you, we need more people talking about the negative impacts and effects of drinking.
I am fortunate like you, I never really acquired the taste or desire to redose alcohol. The dangers of alcohol and inhaled THC are not as innocuous as society would have us believe.

People born since about 1950 are suffering early onset dementia/Alzheimer's at a faster rate than earlier generations, due to alcohol and drug abuse.
Thomas, thank you for this video. I've watched alcohol destroy family members, a cycle that keeps repeating. I hope anyone who drinks will hear this and eliminate it altogether.
I use to have an issue with sleep walking. When I quit drinking it stopped. I can definitely say it does affect the brain from experience.
