"Alcohol is the only drug where if you don't do it, people assume you have a problem."
Thanks for the excellent episode
Yes. Especially in my Irish-Catholic neighborhood in NYC. They are unable to socialize without it. They don't trust people who don't drink. Italians drink with a meal.
Good point
I've noticed that...I stopped drinking 4 months ago, and that's the first thing that comes out of people's mouth. In my case, I discovered I have fatty liver. I've never been a heavy drinker. I do have a problem with food. After a ton of research, and talking with my doctor, I decided to try a clean style of keto eating. I dropped the alcohol because of nutrition concerns. 4 months later, I have lost 65 pounds and feel amazing !! BTW, fatty liver is reversing ❤❤❤
Sooo true!!
I’m 6 months no alcohol. I feel like a new human. Everyone needs to keep pushing the no alcohol message. It’s truly life changing.
How did you stop?
I'm with you on that!! 3 and a half months sober and my life just keeps getting better everyday! Will never go back! It's poison!
@@alexanderkvitrovn9828 For me, non-alcoholic beers in situations when normally I'd drink. Haven't drunk for five months now
5 months and agree!
Yup 4weeks .. I’m sold !!
Haven't had a drink yet this year, i think I'll continue this way for the rest of my life. No booze, no smoking, no drugs. Swimming, lifting, walking. My soul feels clean
I agree
I’m bored.
@johnneil14 is ok to be bored, now relax. No need to drink. You are fine as you are
@@johnneil14 Then do something good - don't drink something bad..
It would be for the best
4 days sober right now. I know it's not long, but I can not recall when was the last time. I have gone this long without drinking.
As of last week I have been drinking 5, 6 to 7 day's a week. For the past 2 or 3 years and heavily binge drinking on the weekends for over 10 years. Hopefully more sober and productive days to come. 👍
Keep going it’s worth it. If you feel like slipping backwards, then pray to the Lord to take the desire away and begin filling your life up with good things.
How are you doing? I had 5 days and on the 6th day I had a vodka soda at a graduation party. I feel awful for having it but you know what? I still had 5 days of sobriety and I’m going to keep going. I once heard the analogy of going on a hike…if you trip and fall on a hike, do you just sit there and wallow or are you going to dust yourself off and continue? I choose the latter.
You got this bro
Hope you’re doing well! We both quit drinking about a month ago. Everything is better for me; sleep, energy, endurance. I really wanted to get hammered Saturday, but I just thought of how bad I would feel the next morning. Gotta fight through those temptations.
Is the quickest way to lose weight.
22 days no alcohol no sugar. Dropped 7lbs skin clear and no joint pain. I’m 45 years old.
I cut out alcohol about 4 months ago. Went Keto. Alternate swimming with walking days & I've never felt better. No brain fog. Consistent quality sleep. No afternoon slump. Skin clearer. Eyes brighter. Everything 100% better!! 🙌🏼💯
Just surpassed 4 months myself, and it’s been really bizarre how literally every facet of life has gotten better and better by the day. Insane that it took me so long to clue into this. Congrats on your journey
How did you find out you had a fatty liver
This is exactly what I need in my life. Never considered myself a drinker. But I am. And I hate it
I'm off the booze nearly 12 months but my diet has remained terrible and high sugar. Started a keto type diet a few days ago and looking forward to improvements.
@@Paul-gf9fc I didn't. I stopped before I got one. 🙌🏼
I quit drinking 5 years ago. Honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made. I also work as a bartender, and I'm at a point where I no longer enjoy serving people because I see the consequences, and I feel guilty because it's my job to serve them. I'm working my way towards a more positive job for the future. It's hard watching good people make bad decisions.
Makes you feel like you are missing out though and I am now the most awkward person within of 100 mile radius
Good people don’t drive drunk. And most everyone at a bar knows they are going to drive drunk. Otherwise, the parking lots of bars would be empty except for ubers coming and going. I don’t feel bad for people who continually make bad decisions. Good for you trying to get out of that mess.
I’m a bartender too!!! And I’ve had the same exact thoughts!
I'm a bartender as well.. I've had the same thoughts. However, my personal choice not to consume alcohol is my own. I try not to judge the people that walk into my bar. They're here not only for the alcohol but maybe for something else.. like connection. I do find a part of my career still gratifying because I try to connect with everyone that walks in the door. We all have a story. We can all learn from one another.
I feel this so hard. I bartend in a restaurant currently, people don't tend to get out of line or anything like that, but I always still in the back of my mind wish that I was able to encourage them to drink less.
Since 2017, I’ve quit smoking, drinking, refined sugar, fast food soft drinks and I’m currently 23 days into quitting codeine based prescribed medication. And just so you know, I’m 50 I work part time minimum wage, I’m nobody special. Don’t listen to all the scare tactics that keep you addicted. Decide to quit and do it, yes it’ll have it’s rough days, but if you can make it through just one day make sure to congratulate yourself and go tackle the next day and so on. You’ve got to look after yourself, life is short. It’s simple if I can do it YOU CAN TOO!!!
Great post, thanks for sharing dear one. I am a bit over three years sober. Wish I would have quit sooner!!
Sugar is just as bad as cocaine. True story.
@@harlanwiley6866 100% true
@@cynthiafortier2540 Cynthia I thought the same, I’m 43 days codeine free and like you wished I done it years ago. But we’ve both done it now!! That’s all that matters, we quit, we’re sober. You should congratulate yourself 👏
You say you work at a minimum wage job, have all the changes you have made to your life had an effect on your finances?
I quit alcohol 15 months ago at 48 years old. The only thing I regret is not quitting sooner.
Me too, I am 49, I only quit 6 weeks ago but I already know I will never drink again
I just stopped in the new year. 3 weeks I guess. Fairly determent to keep it up all of 2024. What good has come out of it for you?
What do you consume for liquids? I find juice, soda pop and the like, coffee, tea, not as healthy for me or not healthy for me. I drink some water, but I find it's insufficient all the time for a beverage. Moderation. But even with moderation those other drinks still don't feel healthy to my body. But beer and wine in moderation feel healthy for my body.
This video couldn't come at a better time for me. Been drinking since I was 15, I'm 45 and I'm ready to change. Thank you for all you do.
Good for you, I am 45 too and quit a week ago, first sober week in 20 years
@@UB5656 At the end of week one and doing great but I've been here many times. Hopefully we can both use these tools to get control while we still have some good years left to enjoy. 🙏🌸
@ShaneRanae Kelley I know how that goes. The important thing is not to think "oh, one won't be a problem, I can handle one or maybe two " as this can set off a whole bunch of chain reactions in brain chemistry.

Add keto and intermittent fasting to alcohol abstinence and you will become superhuman.
I have been sober for 35 years. It was the most significant and meaningful decision I have ever made. I was 24 years old. #sober #life #serenity
Amazing
I am 24 years old and I will be doing the same thing

And 4 months sober from coke.

I am a month alcohol free and man it’s rough. It was just Memorial Day weekend and EVERYONE around me was drinking. I just keep telling myself the few hour buss is not worth feeling like crap for days after.
Yesterday marked my one month sober… honestly can’t see myself having a drink again. I just feel so much better. Can’t believe I spent over a decade doing something so harmful at least once a week.
Logging calories and macros had me reducing alcohol intake until I quit. Broke through my weight loss plateau. 3 months sober now. Eliminated one blood pressure med and cut the other in half.
👏🏻💯👏🏻💯👏🏻🎉🎉🎉
Congrats man
Good work. Crazy how it's acceptable to take another pill before looking at our diet/alcohol intake first.
4 years sober this coming August and it’s completely true about my quality of friends over quantity now. And how I realized that I really didn’t have much in common with certain people when we only talked when we drank. So glad those boring small talk convos are over. So much more headspace for things truly important to me.
This was excellent. Tom and Chris have it right. When I gave up the booze 5.5 years ago my life changed to the max. Lost 50 pounds. Finally addressed my sleep disorder, and started walking. I now average 20 plus miles per week with much higher miles in the summer months. My goal is to never drink again.
I’m 170 days alcohol free and I’m sure I will never look back! The freedom from toxic substance and even slight feeling of superiority over people struggling with hangovers and NEEDING alcohol to relax or socialise is unmatched. And my crippling anxiety is GONE. What a life 🥰
Lol I am almost 8 years sober and I totally get that superiority. It's actually something I struggle with....I don't ever want to feel better than others but man is it hard and annoying to watch people not know how to live life without drinking. Sad
I get it, too.
Moderation is the key if you want to drink without damage. Enjoying alcohol takes discipline and setting limits for yourself. If you cannot do that, then don't drink. Most people who drink do not become alcoholics because they control the amount they drink. If a parent was an alcoholic, it is even more important to limit and moderate your drinking. Many people need alcohol to relax and become comfortable at social events. Best to limit to 1 drink at social events and drink slowly; and have water for the 2nd and following drinks. However, if you cannot control the amount of your drinking, then do not drink. Alcohol is part of social and business culture throughout the world so it is virtually everywhere. However, moderate drinking is possible. There is lots of social pressure to drink. However, if you don't like alcohol, just say it makes you sick or you are allergic to it. You never have to apologize for not drinking.
If you’re doing it to feel superior over others, I don’t think you’re doing it for the right reasons, guy.
@@diddyfaplord I don't think it's the reason they did it but it's just came along with it. I get what you're saying though
I am 60 and have been drinking since I was 15, no I am not an alcoholic, but at my age, I've become a terrible binge drinker maybe 2days every two weeks where I will go through two bottles of homebrew wine in one night and it's so strong, I work out really hard and I am very fit but I've noticed it's taking more of a toll on my health, like this weekend I had palpitations, I know it's my body saying hey Paul that's enough after all these years, and after listening to this program and my inner voice says its time to quit, plus I have a young son and I should and will do it for him.
Yeah if u see it escalating at any level it's time to quit. And for your son. You'll learn be happier too which is most important
If you’re trying to lose weight, drinking alcohol (especially as you get older) makes it much harder. Even if your carbs are really low, your body will choose to use alcohol as it’s energy source first. You have to use up any alcohol before it gets back to burning fat.
Wrong!!!!!?many of my friends are alcoholic and skinny or very fit with nice body, except they have some health issues and acting weird sometimes, but they are more beautiful than most of other people who don't drink. Alcohol alone do not make you fat. Most europeans drink alcohol from Dawn to dusk, they all really skinny.
I'll drink to that and stay fat.. cheers 🍻
So true bro I’m slowly trying to control the alcohol so much stress
@@Hippy2021 I was like that till I turned 40. .
Alcohol is liquid bread!!
As an extremely light drinker (four or five beers a week, never more than one at a time) I still feel SO MUCH BETTER: I sleep better, have more clarity, and have energy that lasts all day! Spread the word - even a little poisons you and robs you of feeling well.
Isn't 4 or 5 beers a week quite a bit of alcohol ? Not alcoholic level but that's drinking most nights or having a mini session every weekends, no ?
@@garethmorgan3665 Yes. I believe you're correct about that. I've certainly found that I feel better without it..
@@garethmorgan3665 What do you consume for liquids? I find juice, soda pop and the like, coffee, tea, not as healthy for me or not healthy for me. "Artificially inflating relationships that otherwise wouldn't be meaningful to me..." damn, that hit hard.
Wow definitely used the right words “artificially” 👍🏿
So glad former alcoholics are finally speaking out. This has been the elephant in the room for centuries. Young people need to hear this message, because thats where alcoholics are made. There are some families that have no role models at all. Everybody around them is a drinker.
It’s rare that you attend a child’s birthday party where the adults are not drinking alcohol.
After a lifetime of drinking (now 65) both casually and heavily, giving up alcohol was going to be a tough call. But now i'm six months sober and i'm working out, lost 75LB and started in the gym i feel so much more alive. I didn't realise how much i depended on Alcohol and what alcohol was actually doing to my body. One of the weirdest things now is watching the people i use to drink with getting drunk and realise just how i looked and sounded as well. I am much more calmer person, less stressed and have much more energy. Socially i just adapted to those around me who want to carry on drinking.
I don't drink, haven't for years and don't care to be around anyone who has been drinking. It's not fun or funny to me to poison myself or watch someone else do it to themselves. There's a whole world out there to experience and enjoy without alcohol and the best thing is you get to remember that enjoyment and those experiences.
Hi Brad … l am the same ! … but it is interesting that when people find out l don’t drink they automatically think l must have been an alcoholic 🤷♀️… most people can’t believe that l have chosen not to drink !
Same. I used to be the typical social drinker. More than 10 years ago my body started rejecting it. I would have even one drink and be sick for two days. I felt like I has been poisoned and technically I was.
I stopped drinking and have not missed it. I just do not tell most people. I get a water with a lemon wedge and most people assume it is a drink.
But I agree, watching people degrade as they become intoxicated is both humorous and sad at the same time.
You start to realize just how drugged up people get and how society just accepts it. 😮
So, people stating that they don't drink and never have - what are you doing here, hypocrites?😂 people who quit know how difficult it is and they don't usually preach...
@@klevykids Never said I never drank. I said I haven't drank for years. Never said it didn't wreck my life and health. Because it did. Never said it was easy for me to quit. Because it wasn't. I just said I don't drink and don't like being around it anymore because that's not my idea of fun and I don't find it funny. I'm not preaching from a pew in a church here I'm preaching from 💯% experience and if that makes you uncomfortable or you don't like it then too damned bad.
@@biggyziggy5777 I feel that!! If the topic come up, I say I don’t drink, but don’t with a small d, not a capital D. I never had a problem with it, I just sorta strayed away from it and don’t miss it. If I am out at a nice restaurant, the day may come when I might order a martini if I am so inclined, but haven’t been inclined for about 8 years now. I don’t miss it at all…though I feel for folks who struggle with it- any addiction sucks.
Finally! People talking the truth about alcohol! Alcohol is toxic, don't drink it. Thanks for this video!
PROVERBS 23:1, 20-21, 29-35📖
Haven’t drank in 6 years. Don’t really miss it either. Definitely feel better. One thing I noticed though is how it decreases the social relationships that I had with people who I thought were friends. I kinda feel a lot lonelier after dropping alcohol. Society is so wrapped around alcohol people don’t even realize it. It’s woven into many social events, holidays, and activities.
They weren't real friends or st leadrnot friends you need if alcohol is a necessary facilitator. But I get it loneliness is a real thing for many reasons.
I’m with you exact same thing happend to me . But you know what I rather be alone and happy and feeling good everyday. I got into deep breathing mediating cold showers best shape of my life physically mentally spiritually . I rather be like then go back to that life of drinking every weekend and feeling like shit . Misery loves company ppl don’t want to see people doing good and being positive . Most are wrapped up in the matrix
Yep, had friendship for 20 years and more, I stopped with alcohol because of health issues, I wasn't addicted, just social drinker. Friends coudn't deal with it, they were heavy drinkers, we part ways so I know how it feels like...
Go make friends with Muslims lol
I have always taken breaks from drinking, few months off, few months back to drinking etc... but I understand your sentiment entirely. You have to be ok sober in those environments and still contribute to the madness... Not judge at all... Not saying it is easy to do... One of my closest friends doesn't drink but when he shows up He's just as funny the whole time, contributes to conversations, to wild bets/statements we make, he usually wins those lol the other thing about alcohol right or wrong it can help develop relationships cuz that dam juice lets walls come down especially to those with any type of social anxiety or put up a front...
Thank you Thomas for another video about alcohol! Your comment stood out to me about not wanting to waste time with those people who arent deep and meaningful. I've always been a deep thinker and conversationalist with inherent strong values.
I realize without alcohol (been sober most of this year), most of the people my husband and I surround ourselves with arent actually what we are looking for in friendships. We arent superficial and tend to be big thinkers.
So we are taking a step back and spending time working on ourselves. Its a bit lonely sometimes but rather be alone than with the wrong people. One day I am sure we will find the right company.
Thomas you have encouraged me to quit drinking. 2 weeks in and just came off vacation with out a drink. Amazes me how people respond. They are much more supportive if you were quitting drugs vs Alcohol…
@starkeymorgan7481 on week 3. So far so good. I live peoples reaction, they cannot understand why? I just tell them I’m doing it for me not you. Have all the drinks you want, not judging you, just don’t need it anymore
@Starkey Morgan reborn ❤❤❤
Great video, Thomas! I quit drinking six months ago, it has always ruled every aspect of my social life. This video sums up exactly how I feel. Ironically, I just quit because I was always tired of feeling like crap and thought it would be very difficult. Surprisingly with how good I feel physically emotionally mentally and with my relationships, I have absolutely zero desire to go back. I wish everybody could feel like this. It would make quitting for a lot of people much easier.
11 months since I took my last beer, I feel and look fantastic. I am comfortable in clubs and bars taking non-alcoholic options, no craving or desire to ever drink again. One of the best choices I made in my life
I’m so glad to see more people speaking up about the dangers of alcohol. No amount of alcohol is safe. It’s a poison.PERIOD. It took me a long time to stop drinking bc I didn’t want to be judged. Almost 6 months later and it’s been a game changer! ❤️🥳
Thank you Thomas...this is so amazing...no hiding behind the lies a person tells themselves
Brilliant video Thomas!!So true! I couldn't agree more. I really hope this video reaches a wide enough audience.

I’m 67 years old and everyone my age I know who drank when young and kept drinking is either dead or seriously ill. It’s just that simple. You are wasting your time on organic food, personal training, and all that wellness stuff , if you drink alcohol. Period. Drink and die. Don’t drink and live. Simple enough.
I used to drink pretty hard. And I would hang out in dive bars. I used to look around and think "all these people drink as much as me and they're ok!" Well after about a decade or two,.. over half of those people are dead! Sooner or later it catches up to you!
I completely abstain. That said, occasional drinking is fine health wise.
Regular you’re gonna pay for it, and if you’re like many adults who have “just a few” drinks every damn night it shows. I think alcohol has greatly diminished my mother in her later years. She is in massively worse health than her teetotaler mother was at the same point.
It’s also clear to me that many, if not most people aren’t capable of being occasional drinkers; they get all too familiar with it and it’s certain points in life are drinking way way too much. Why flirt with disaster?
@@patty109109Agree with you. Of all the people I know who drink alcohol, maybe 2-3 of them are authentically occasional drinkers.
No one wants to hear that unfortunately. I can only express gratitude that I've been
Freed ! Most are my friends are beat up I'm 62 and didn't want to go out like that! Funny thing is they treat it like breathing.
It's poison it really is
I never started, currently 46 and never had even a single beer. Primarily for religious reasons but also I know alcoholism runs in my family. I do some times get defensive about it and people still try to talk me in to trying it from time to time.
Thanks for this video!
Anyone that tries to talk you into drinking against your wishes does not care for you. I socially drink. I do not require it if anyone else. Stay the course.
Don't know your age, but it probably isn't something to start. I have drank maybe a dozen times in my 56 years and several of those were in just a couple years. I have friends that offer me a beer or a drink of some dry wine their friend has grown the grapes and made. It is no obsession of mine to drink alcohol luckily. I just say "No thanks" and we move on. Anyone riding you harder than about it ain't your friend.
Thanks for the responses! It’s nice to have encouragement!
I even had a doctor one time refuse to believe that we don’t drink. His comment was”Everybody drinks. What are you some religious nut? .” What a jerk. Found another doctor because obviously he was the one with a drinking problem. Hold your ground and don’t explain. There are more of us than you think.
I was never a heavy or frequent drinker, but parenthood really put a hard brake on alcohol for me. Gotta be able to get up on a dime and be dad when my kids need me to be or be husband when my wife needs me to be. I only ever see alcohol destroy lives, not enrich them, and my family deserves me at my best.
❤ so sweet. 😊
Man I respect the fuck out of that! You’re the real deal! Salute 🫡
Amazing video Thomas! Really resonated with me when you mentioned your social interactions now being on a deeper lever with people that enrich your life and have the same moral compass, came here for fitness advise and got some real wisdom 👏
TY so much Thomas & Chris for this video. Just look at the comments thread below and you will see how videos like these will help people with alcohol dependancy. If someone can come up with a do-able program that alcoholics can stick to, now that would be amazing! The anxiety, lack of sleep and withdrawal are the reasons most cannot quit (my problem). But I am now more determined than ever to quit this awful drug. I truly hope that I can come back to this video in a month or a few months with my success story. And I encourage anyone in the same boat as me to give it your best shot at quitting. Let's all encourage everyone, and post your success story to motivate and encourage all those people who want to live a better life without alcohol. Go For It!

Look into "the naked mind" they have alot of videos on line and there is a great book the lady who started the program wrote. It really changes how you think about drinking. It totally helped me quit. It like flipped a switch in my brain.
This topic is really rad with so much truth. A topic that needs to be talked about more often. Thanks!
500 days sober. This talk is spot on and exactly how it felt for me..💯
What a great discussion this was! I became alcohol intolerant during middle age. I wonder how many individuals this affects as I can’t find much on the topic. I only know one other person this happened to and he’s a male and it started in his 40s. People don’t change much as they get older. I was recently ostracized at a party by a bunch of middle aged people for being a non drinker a runner and a cyclist. My conclusion was I’d rather have no friends then be affiliated with this mindset of people.
Same here. I consider it a blessing that I became intolerant of alcohol in my 50's. It started with my favorite booze - wine -- giving me a headache, so I switched to vodka. If I had 2 drinks, I was fine, but 3 would cause a headache which would last the whole next day until late afternoon. I wasted so many days of my life feeling awful. I'm 17 months sober and just so happy that I'm focusing on a healthy lifestyle.
I appreciate these videos on alcoholism. Thomas, you are making a great impact on many people you will probably never ever know.
Thank you so much for this!! 🌸✌
This is part of my motivation strategy. Great talk, lots of work to do!
I quit period more than 3 years ago. I never thought I can do in being a marathoner. Quitting really change my life. My life never been better. I have more energy, no cranky in the morning and more time to be consistent on my training both powerlifting and running 6 days a week.
I’m 20 months sober… it took awhile to feel better, to get new habits, but I’m older than Chris and I was in worse shape than Chris. I’m about to turn 42 and shortly after that I’ll be 2 years sober. I’ve recently, 2 months ago, cut out all sugar and most carbohydrates and I’m trying to get back into running and swimming and cycling again. I’ve got two kids and I work as a chef so I’m very busy but honestly, not drinking has turned my life from a nightmare into a pleasant dream.

Wow, Thomas DeLauer the philosopher-good stuff, as always! I quit alcohol about six years ago. My life improved significantly as a result.
Zero alcohol since the 1st of this year. I anticipated the normal benefits; better sleep, improved physical health, clearer thinking, mood stability, etc. The thing that surprises me the most is how much safer I feel. I was not expecting that.
Hey great collaborative. You guys are on the same wavelength. We need more of this. Inspirational and effective. Well done

I started drinking alcohol at the early age 14 years old, now im 55 alcohol did nothing good in my life, that is why i stopped..my three brothers died early because of alcohol 62,60,and 52. Now 248 days without alcohol I feel so good, my sleep is better like a baby, my stomach pain disappeared, my mind was sharper, my anxiety and depression disappeared. I also dont feel tired anymore, now such a good feeling that i never felt before.i never drink alcohol again..my advice to those who love drink alcohol please stop its not too late alcohol gives you sickness and more stress.
I am 16 days away from one year! One of the things he mentioned earlier on about mental agility is so true! I stopped drinking so I could focus completely on recruiting for my job after graduating from my mba and noticed a significant difference in my sharpness on interviews. It was drastic! I got a much higher paying job than I thought I would have been able to get before. This is huge…. Don’t think I’ll ever go back.
I love this video, Thomas....amazing conversation and insights.
Thank you for this very insightfull conversation! I hope more and more people are becoming aware 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
3 months baby! First time in 15 years 👑 I'm not an alcoholic by any means but more of a binge drinker. Lately I've been at the pub after work every single day and after the pub it would be beers... Got to a point where I asked myself "am I losing control? My initial response was "no don't be stupid" and from there called my own bluff like okay, stop drinking then. Don't slow down, don't do it on an occasion just completely cut it out and see who really has control. Well chaps, it's been an uphill struggle I've lost friends and hardly see anyone anymore. HOWEVER (the good bits) I've been back at the gym 5/6 days a week since stopping. Started taking training seriously. I'm a better partner, a better father to my kids, saved a sheet load of money, lost weight, gained strength, mental health has improved massively (yes, alcohol an mental health are linked shock horror) feel more energy I'm more alert. Got back into reading.
So yeah, offloaded a bit of dead weight and freed myself. Honestly, if you think you might have a problem like I did/ do... Ask yourself ... Are you really in control?
Good speed everyone 🙌
I quit almost 18 years ago and I absolutely don't miss alcohol one bit...
Seriously, love this. Thank you guys
Thomas thanks for sharing this content super important!!! I love the format !!
I'm at 9 months! Running helped me quit alcohol. Some people will say "I run because I really like beer", but I quit beer because I really love running! Running gives me confidence, builds my stamina, I've lost a lot of weight and I feel like a free man whenever I run.
Got sick and tired of being sick and tired, so I poured out my liquor bottles two weeks ago. Not sure if the improved in sleep is supposed to happen right away or not, but sleep is where I am struggling now. Thanks Thomas and Chris for sharing your experiences!
Getting your cycles and hormones and dopamine/serotonin levels back to normal takes time. In the meantime, try to eat healthier and get a bit more exercise in to help boost those productions in your body. Maybe even get your bloodwork done and talk to a nutritionist if your insurance pays for it to see where you’re deficient and where you should cut. First thing you should do when you wake up is get sunlight exposure, even if it’s sitting on a chair by the window for 5 minutes, it will regulate your melatonin cycle. A lot of people are also chronically deficient in zinc and magnesium so talk to your healthcare provider about maybe taking a ZMA supplement before bed to help you sleep. There’s days I still feel off and want to run back to alcohol, that will happen but don’t beat yourself up over it, tomorrow is a better day. Future you is going to thank you and the pain of staying the same is worse than the pain of progress.
No you need to give it tons of time but I promise it comes.
Thank you for this video!
Thank you Thomas!
I drank quite a lot when younger, (I’m 53 now and pretty fit) but now it’s only occasionally, and only bourbon. That said, I can definitely tell a difference in how I feel the next few days. I’m seriously considering cutting it out of my life along with nicotine (I’m in the tobacco business and use nicotine pouches because I own one of the brands), to reduce my slightly elevated blood pressure. I attribute the higher blood pressure to the nicotine, but I’m sure if I got better sleep, which has always been an issue, this would be helpful. Great interview and love the channel Thomas!!
As a South African, thank you for supporting our farmers!
This was fantastic guys! I've never had a drink in my life, but just had this exact conversation with my girlfriend as we're contemplating marriage, and it's so nice to have big names supporting the same 👏
“Sovereignty over myself” what a great insight- wish I’d heard this years ago when I was addicted to alcohol- thankfully I’m not anymore - this is a great conversation 👍🏽🤟🏽🙏🏽👊🏽
I’ve just realised how much I am drinking and it’s shocking. Not to mention now I’m aware of it I can see why a lot of my goals aren’t being reached because of alcohol. Think an AA meeting is on the cards, definitely need some help with it
You are not alone. As for me...I go through withdrawals. So I need to quit. You can do it!!! We believe in You.
@@damianlopez7630 thank you man 💪🏻
For years I drank after work till I blacked out then drank what's left middle of the night. I gained 60lbs, aged a decade and was so depressed. Now I'm 2 weeks sober n never going back
Great discussion.
Thank you for this video very insightful inspiring and also life-changing
I drink too much. This video makes me want to stop today
There are really helpful books 📚 I have a few that read them and quit.
I should finish that book….it wasn’t just for alcohol 🥃 it was x helpful for other purposes:aspects of our thinking… programming.
And you can do it too!! DO IT!
The naked mind, and he alcohol experiment!
Quit while you're ahead! The health issues that alcohol can cause or worsen are typically silent with no symptoms until permanent damage is already done to something like your liver and kidneys or other organs. I only drank heavily for less than three years and it damaged my kidneys when they were fine according to blood work from five years ago.
Best thing I ever did! And never another hangover ever!!!! I used to watch videos and pray that I could quit! If you are watching this and struggling YOU CAN quit!!!!!! It took me quite a while to completely stop so don’t give up! Everything is better without alcohol! I’m sober 10 years now
Thanks for this. I’m in the process figuring out my social circles, building new friendships and moving away from others to be successful being alcohol free.
Very, very good talk. I can relate very well to almost everything!🥰
For anyone trying to quit try switching to n/a beers. I drank everyday for 20 years and when I decided to quit it wasn't missing the alcohol that was hard it was not being able to have a beer after work so I started drinking n/a beers and problem solved I don't even miss the alcohol plus can drink on the road without worrying about a DUI. There's lots of options these days my favorite is Guinness n/a plus there's a really good IPA but can't remember the brand rn
I told myself I will quit drinking starting from Monday, f*ck that I'm starting today 💪
How did that work out?
Very happy to see your subscribers increasing more and more👍👍
Thomas you sound like a really decent man, God bless you and your family, thank you for all your good info.
I grew up in the 70's, started smoking weed at 15, as it was always around and everyone did it, all ages, at that time. I enjoyed it, it helped me to relax and laugh a bit, but I knew it wasn't good for my body and lungs, of course. I eased up by mid 20's but didn't really quit til around late 20's. Around 30 or so, I began drinking at the clubs, to mingle and meet people. At the time, you think it makes you better socially, and that might have been the case in the beginning, but I pretty much used it to deal with the single scene, which sucked the majority of the time. Alcohol is not only expensive and not healthy, it causes you to make really bad decisions, about everything from what you buy to what you eat. After a few drinks it's very easy to say 'What the f*ck' and eat or do something that you normally would NOT do. I didn't do it all the time, stopped for long periods, but went back to it when I felt I 'needed' it. Like after work on a rough day etc... I stopped 10 years ago, at 50, never looked back, and certainly don't miss it. Wish I quit sooner, both with weed and alcohol, but we live and learn as we go in life and it is never too late to change and move forward. Speaking sincerely, quit drinking NOW if you are on the fence about it, your life will definitely immediately improve. Wishing anyone who reads this all the best.
I actually just quit drinking this past week. I don't regret it.
10 days now for me. It feels good.
Great Video!
This has changed my mind so much. Thank you.
Man I can relate to this so much. Quit alcohol at the end of last summer before starting Masters Degree this year. Best decision I could've made. Better sleep, less anxiety, consistant cognitive performance, better recovery from exercise. Unfortunatly I barely meet friends any more, but I realised most of our conversations were just repetetive drink rambelings and with no real positive outcome. Also, diet has been pretty bad recently due to near constant work from my course. However, without alcohol, I've been able to stay sharp even with unholy amounts of chocolate intake.
Time to quit the next drug ;) "chocolate" :D
Doesn't matter how much chocolate you eat, you will not suffer the damage alcohol would do.
Sugar is the same with alcohol. Both addictive and destroys you
150ml Organic Italian Red wine with steak is perfect and I think maybe its better and healthier for someone than nuts and other.
Great wisdom guys. I'm researching before I put down that 1st can. One ❤
Excellent! I wish these existed when I was growing up! Shared with my teenage sons!
isn't it ironic? since I've stopped drinking/smoke, people-on occasion-have asked me: "is there a reason you don't drink?"
in the same token, when I was out getting lit all the time, no one ever asked me: "is there a reason you drink?"
frankly speaking, maybe it's because most alcoholics or drug users prefer not to hear that.
Ads are so annoying
Yup blame google!
House of macadamia
Awesome video!!!!
Great insight. I feel like the health and fitness community rarely cover how detrimental alcohol is to your health and self development goals. You may be able to overcome alcohol in your twenties however after that alcohol destroys every aspect of health. Thank you for going against the societal accepted norm. That alcohol is perhaps the most destructive drug, bad habit. After you cut it out you realize how much it takes from you
What got me to realize how alcohol was affecting me was the really really severe leg cramps I was having. I stopped last September and I have not had leg cramps so far since.
It’s called dehydration
Thomas this would be a great conversation for our youth - food for thought for our next generation.
great video. I've been on an extended vacation and been drinking too much over months. I almost just want to go back home just to go back to studying, working and not drinking too much. I'm still keeping up with my workouts out here but I am worn out. I also have sleep problems in general, and I know falling asleep drink does not provide adequate rest
