could it be: by increasing stomach acid and consuming digestive enzymes?

I'm fairly young 27 but I struggled with serious alcoholism for over 10 years, I actually became dependant on it because I have really bad insomnia (always have since childhood) over the years I found I was never actually getting sleep, I was simply passed out or worse, blacked out and the constant lack of sleep turned into psychotic anger issues. I almost never dreamed for over a decade and whenever I did it was simply night terrors, chronic lack of REM sleep turned me into a completely different person. Glad to say I'm clean now but if anyone reading this drinks alcohol to aid with sleep, trust me it's not actually helping

It's been 2 years since I've all but quit alcohol and I feel great! If i do drink, it's 2 MAX. Any more than that really disrupts my performance and mood three next day. It's a reminder as to why I quit that lifestyle to begin with. Thanks to people like yourself giving scientifically backed data, I've been able to lose 100 lbs and keep it off!

Been free from alcohol for 3 years. Not because I knew in my mind I should stop, but because my body felt like shit from it. Not just the hangover but WHILE drinking…it felt like I was poisoning myself.
What helped me become aware of what it was actually doing to me…was becoming aware of emotions that I had buried within me and facing them and letting them out. I became more sensitive to everything and more intuitive and loving because I was strong enough to face dark emotions. I had no use for alcohol anymore.

      @mrgalaxy396 Рік тому +1

Binge drinking is actually less damaging (emphasis on less) than chronic intake, with a few caveats of course.
If you're a young adult in your early to mid 20s, once a month, maybe twice with like 2-3 weeks in between, having a few drinks with your mates (unless you go too crazy and get shitfaced, seriously don't be that guy no one likes taking care of blacked out people and cleaning up puke) won't do you any harm long term really. The body sorts it out like any other infection or light poisoning you get and you need to give it time to recover afterwards. Obviously you want to have certain longer periods where you don't take any alcohol at all, just to recover from previous binges thoroughly. It will also make the binges more special and more fun.
Make sure you drink enough water both during the binge and after you are done, it helps massively with hangovers and prevents you from dehydrating. Avoid pairing alcohol with sugary drinks, especially energy drinks, that will only make you feel worse and dehydrate you faster, not to mention it will mess with your glucose levels which is not fun for anyone involved. Never mix alcoholic beverages, that's a quick way to go to puke town really fast. If it's a cocktail, stop at 1 or 2 servings max depending on your tolerance levels, those things can hit really unpredictably.
All this applies of course if you are otherwise moderately healthy, can handle your alcohol (no addictions, no severe reactions to even smaller amounts, you don't get drunk too quickly) and aren't an athlete (it will affect your performance). It's a better alternative than getting a beer or two every week or every few days and if you're drinking nearly every day, regardless of amount you are already an alcoholic and should probably quit entirely. Don't drink alone unless it's like once in a blue moon type thing, especially not as a way to lower stress or manage emotional frustrations. That's an easy ticket to chronic alcoholism years down the line without you even noticing.
If you're in your later 20s and older, you should really limit your alcohol intake to max 1 serving per two weeks, again if you are otherwise healthy, don't have much weight issues, can stop at a single drink etc. Best to reserve that serving when you go out with someone to a restaurant or you're out in a pub, get 1 serving with your meal or just 1 serving at the bar/pub/club if you really feel like craving a drink and can stop at 1. Get something good, really enjoy it, but don't overdo it. And again, best way to steer clear of increasing that risk of taking alcohol chronically is to never drink alone, especially not at your house. There are far better ways to unwind and manage stress, emotional pain, trauma and so forth than booze.
At that age, you should reserve binge drinking for very special occasions and that's only if both you and your mates really feel like it, it shouldn't be an obligation (well this generally applies, but peer pressure hits different at different ages). So like at most 1-2 times a year and if there is a very good reason for it like a big life event celebration. And again don't get shitfaced, nothing worse than taking care of an adult who doesn't know how to handle his alcohol intake. And again, make sure you have longer periods where you are just not drinking at all, just to give your body time to properly heal.

@@cincin4515 lol I’m not telling anyone to do anything. I didn’t want to give alcohol up - but my liver is pissed, so I sort of had to (and no - I wasn’t even a heavy drinker). Once your liver starts having problems- the rest of you feels like crap. At any rate, when you can’t have alcohol, believe it or not being more active is really a good sub! Think about it, you get endorphin highs from a good workout (bonus cold shower after helps), it helps you sleep, it helps your mood, it provides recreation, and frankly it becomes addictive. Drinking gives you a momentary buzz, followed by feeling like crap. So actually, alcohol is a poor sub for physical activity.
Instead of wondering what bar or restaurant we are going to on the weekend, we have a number of options - hiking, kayaking, biking, golf, tennis, swimming, etc. And we still go to bars and clubs and have a Diet Coke (which I don’t normally drink so it still feels like I’m having something I shouldn’t).

Been sober since Jan. 18th here. Staying sober isn't really that hard so far, but it's still early also. I need to lose some weight and have failed so many times over the years due to alcoholism getting in my way, so that was my main reason for quitting. But I'm also sick and tired of the hangovers. I can't do much physical activity without feeling like absolute shit when I have a hangover, don't even want to get up out of bed for the ENTIRE day. I've wasted countless days of my life like that. I'm laid off right now (seasonal job, not a permanent layoff) and trying to find a better job...but the hangovers weren't helping at all, so I told myself it's time to just stop completely.

Good for you! I’m the type of person who can get a month or two in of sobriety, and then it always starts again: knowing that with my lowered tolerance, I will be on cloud nine with just a few drinks, so why not? Just on the weekends, right? Within two or three months I’m always drinking heavier than I was before I got clean. It’s vicious. By all accounts, I’m a smart, capable guy who should know better, but this is a difficult addiction. I honestly believe you cannot just quit drinking without adding something new to your life, some sort of hobby, something you enjoy. You can’t replace drinking with not drinking. That is just perpetually, waiting until the next drink without filling that void in your life that alcohol has filled for so long.

    • @yearginclarke
      @yearginclarke Рік тому +1

@@mattlawson714 It's the hardest addiction I've tried to quit. I quit smoking 11 years ago, and chewing in 2015. Smoking was interfering with my breathing and figured maybe I could just chew instead, but after it started damaging my teeth I just said screw this and quit cold turkey. I was also doing coke and meth for a brief period of my younger life but gave that garbage up easily after a bad reaction one time. All the of the aforementioned was fairly easy to quit in comparison.
I've remained sober from alcohol, but I've gotten some strong cravings that came on since my last comment above. My biggest problem is that I developed a taste for straight whiskey, gin, tequila and of course beer. I love the taste of those, and that's just as much a factor in my addiction as the buzz.

I almost drank me to death last year. I came out of a very toxic relationship last year juni the 15th. Due to this relationship I lost my pension money and my life in Holland. I live now in Hungary. I started to drink extremely and every day more and more until I drank 2 bottles of wine and 1 bottle of wodka a day. I had more and more thoughts of wanting to die and being a total worthless human being living in a strange country. Until the 6th of January 2023. There I experienced a severe pain in my chest to my left arm. That day I came home and sat on my couch and started to talk to myself. After a long emotional conversation with myself I never drank anymore and also quit smoking. The next day I started sports daily and since then I already lost 8kg. I started at 114 and want to go to 95kg. Not only my body heals now but also my mind. I'm still alone but not lonely anymore. I still am broke and poor, but not in my mind. I live now for myself and my sport and will walk the earth alone till I die, free of any addiction.

Great video! Thank you Thomas for sharing the truth even when it’s not always popular. Knowledge is power. I’ve seen so many people that I’d say were likely alcoholics at bars only being encouraged to have more drinks as they faded into oblivion right before my eyes; not judging, I just feel for people in this situation. There’s a problem and the only thing being done is a continued social pressure to keep consuming what they are addicted to. My father is alcoholic (38 years sober). I’ve been a ‘ light grey drinker on and off); I enjoy the taste of alcohol, but honestly I enjoy my health, sleep and vitality so much more. I’ve been sober since January 1st and have seen improvements in my health, sleep and vitality. Previous I’d have a couple drinks every now and then(perrenial DD lol), but honestly I really enjoy not drinking at all and feel like my health and sleep are so much better too! Once in a while I’d have to many drinks and would have preferred every time that I did not. And the very reason that I was good at limiting my drinks was the same reason I’d be pressured to keep drinking; this is craziness. There’s just too much social pressure. Who cares what I drink; no one has issues with anything else I consume; why alcohol? Oh yeah, and I notice a huge slow down of my metabolism when I have alcohol; another reason to not drink. I feel like moderation is often more of an unachieved goal of most who drink on a regular basis; again not judging, just empathetic for these situations where good intentions are not achieved and peoples health suffers as a result. I think there are a good minority of people who drink in moderation, but I still do not see alcohol as beneficial to anyone’s health. To each their own, but again, so thankful for you sharing the science.

I’ve been a drinker since 2010 basically getting drunk every time I drink not just have one beer. My drinking patterns vary from once on the weekends, or two days of the weekend, sometimes every other week or a month off no alcohol, but whenever I do drink I end up drunk. This past weekend was the most amount of alcohol I have ever drank in one night, I counted a whopping 19 beers. I woke up completely lost mentally, tired and hungover restless just feel like a broken man for always falling back to drinking. I pray god gives me the strength and guidance to stop drinking. I’m ready for my sober life.

The best way you can cut back is add in healthier alternative things to do outside of drinking. Take up a sport, hobby, hit the gym, eat healthier, if you find it a struggle you don't have to quit entirely right away just reduce your consumption bro, let's say you hit the gym before drinking at least you got that out of the way and you accomplished something you feel good about and if you decide to drink afterwards you might just have a few drinks instead of binging, do what you can In This Moment don't overthink or stress about it you will eventually get there trust me it was hard for myself but implementing those ideas into my life has gotten me to pull fully away from drinking, especially how much it negatively impacted my health and personal relationships with the people I care about around me. It makes a huge difference on many levels how good you'll feel once you break free! Goodluck and wishing you the best to good health and life! 💪

I was similar to you. I don’t/didn’t drink every day but some days more than I should. I’m 42 and l really like the taste of beer and bourbon. Sometimes 6 or 7 beers would make me feel like crap the next day or I could drink 12 all day long by the grill and pool and feel fine the next day. Not so much any more as my body doesn’t process alcohol (or food for that matter) like it used to. My metabolism was awesome but the last 2 years the little beer guy started and I don’t like looking at it.
Hangovers are harder now with bad headaches and anxiety the entirety of the following day.
So a month ago I turned the page and stopped going to the liquor store for a 18 pack or a bottle of bourbon. It’s way too easy when you’re at home to go to the refrigerator or cabinet when it’s readily available so not having it there makes you go for another drink that is not going to buzz your or get you drunk. So, I started buying lemons at the grocery store and I’ll have 2 glasses of lemon water about every day. Or have a ginger ale. I started exercising at home with crunches and push ups and I’m looking and feeling better.
You’ll start being happy with how you feel after a few weeks of not drinking. I’ve cut down to one beer a week and it’s with dinner at a restaurant and eventually I want to cut it down to 1 or 2 beers a month.
One more thing you’ll be happy with is the amount of money you’ll be saving not buying drinks every week. Especially bourbon at $30-50 a bottle adds up quick.
      Good luck man.

I make almost twice as much money. I was a college athlete and have always worked out, but I've never put in the intentional focus and effort that I have the last 5 years. I eat and train like an athlete. I would estimate that I now have probably a top 5% physique for where I live. 6' even, 190 lbs with 12% BF at 48 years old. It is a total game-changer. Also very important to get your T levels checked, monitored and if need be, supplemented. (This is usually not your family doctor because they don't know enough about the subject.) I was a daily drinker from 17-39 (2 years sober in that time). At least 8 drinks per night. Way more on weekends and a few years in there when I drank from breakfast to passing out late at night.
I’ve been sober for just over 18 months now and I wish that everyone would give sobriety a shot. The effects that alcohol has on the body, mind and spirit is not worth whatever benefits the user gains in the moment.
To everyone getting sober or already sober - keep going. It is 100% worth the effort and the dedication. It might feel lonely sometimes but there are millions of us out here with you!

@@johncitizen8828 Definitely. I was waking up nearly every night around 3am sweating, highly anxious, deep burning itch in my shoulders - liver related issues. That went away after a few days. Waking up without a hangover will never get old. However, the difference between how quickly my body recovered when I did a year sober at 36 and the time it’s taken to recover now at nearly 40 is huge. The extra 18 months of drinking between the sobriety took its toll massively. I recommend getting sober as young as possible because it really does catch up quickly after 35.
Mentally, I’ve been left with the issues that the drinking was covering up so it’s been a long process of discovery and healing that I’m still very much in. But when I compare my day to day life now to when I was drinking, every part of life now is better than it’s ever been because I’m in growth mode. Alcohol dependence only creates stagnancy and decay.

I have been a casual drinker for years. I have had sleep issues for as long as I can remember (insomnia, not being able to fall asleep, etc). I just thought I was a “night person” with a circadian rhythm different from the norm. I quit drinking 8 months ago. Around month 2, my sleep turned amazing. I would start yawning around 930pm and go to bed around 10pm and immediately fall asleep, and wake up feeling rested around 6am with no alarm clock! This study is spot on. Over the years, I routinely would take a month off from drinking in October as part of an overall health reboot. The month didn’t really affect my sleep cycle. The real change seems to occur during month 2.

I recently stopped drinking as I realised it’s kind of stupid.
When you list all the negatives and positives you realise the only positive is that you get a slight buzz and have lower inhibitions (arguably a con as well). Whereas the positives are almost endless.
The impact it has on your life is monumental both physically and mentally. It sometimes feels like socially we’re caught up in the biggest corporate lie of all time.
Also, if you’re someone who drinks and looks down on all other drug use… that’s probably a sign you need to smell the roses.

One night I had a few drinks, and the next day I was up over 5 lbs on the scale. It took me over a week to get back down to my weight that I was on the day I had the drinks. Sucks to go backwards like that because of a few drinks one night. I could not imagine the damage caused by daily alcohol use/abuse.
