    I hated the gym in the beginning because it was SO hard. But 8 months later (with a trainer), I actually look forward to it now. At 74 (sedentary female) I am building some muscle and have improved from struggling with 5 lbs to now working with 50.
    Thank God patience is a virtue and He blesses me with it...

      starving is not that hard

    • @JonDrinksWater
      @JonDrinksWater 6 місяців тому

      @@snubdawg1386fasting isn't that hard when you have your life in order and the rest of your health in order.
      But starving yourself for a long period of time is really hard when food is the main thing in your life that brings you any happiness. I had excruciating back pain for many years That's when I was gaining most of my weight, It was one of the only things that helped me cope with the spine pain. Thankfully I was able to finally get approved for my spine surgery and it was a success so I don't have that pain anymore.
      I've kept the weight off for a few years. But that's a big thanks to my life and health being an order now.
      But I just don't think it's accurate to give a blanket statement that starving yourself is easy. If it was, then everyone would.

    Ask a trauma surgeon about twinkies or diverse diet. The doc guessed my friends died after emergency surgery as lean meats, healthy fats, veggies and no sugar. He saved his guts from colostomy bag but he lost his leg and was in a coma from near death auto accident. That doc looked in my face and said "I can immediately tell someone's diet and health by intestinal texture, smell, color. This guy eats whole food and very little sugar or milk. "

    Just love Tom in his upfront sincere honest speak- Working out , feelin good, lookin & feelin sexy is frippin hard work every day. I’m a 62 yr old regular gal who takes care of her body thru all stages & ages working, motherhood, biz crazy hrs, commutes , life etc ….. Even at the fields with kids for 18 yrs.
    I went to games & when they went to practice I went to the fields runnin the fields lifting at the play grounds & jumping rope. Your goals makes your demands. I had a kid @ 40.
    at the playground while other moms were sitting .
    Feelin good- avoiding the cookie moms sabataging & bunko wine nights excuse for & playground mom/ wine & bookclub wine & cheese…. Every snack room in the elementary school your office etc
    Snack & junk food junkies.
    You are who you are with. Drink much look at your friends. Eat much look around.
    Discipline look at your surroundings.
    No judgement here.
    Do the best you can for yourself.
    The world is full of lustful wanna feel good stuff.
    Better to be truthful to yourself - no excuses unless a true disease.
    It ain’t easy and pretty impossible to get a 6 pack 1-2 % of real people.

    As someone that lost 140 pounds total and 100 pounds of that in the past 12 months, i think the largest barrier is fear. Fear of the lifestyle change, success or failure. Id say 90% of people know deep down they arent going to follow through when they start. I think a large chunk of that is being self conscious, they don't want to be seen as unhappy with their weight so they mask it with "oh im comfortable" or go to the gym and be the fattest person there. For me personally i look at it with an idgaf attitude and im doing it for me and my longevity. That has helped me tremendously. David goggins 100 mile run story was a massive motivator for me as well, if he could do that, i have no excuses. At the end of the day you have to want it bad enough and each person has a different breaking point

    • @EclipseCircle
      @EclipseCircle 6 місяців тому +10

      What's worse is that, over time, your mind starts believing "I'm comfortable" and you can no longer trust what you see in the mirror. I've had and still continue to deal with that problem. It's only when I see myself in a photo or a video that I can see how overweight I actually am.

      I would say fear, but also lack of experience, knowledge, and scientific faith. I too lost hundreds ob lbs 2-3 times in my life - most people lack the fact that their brain + body will stop craving BS if given a purge from it; even a week of removing BS can allow for hormones and neuroplasticity to evolve into a new habitual experience. This book has been over-promoted, however, Atomic Habits can help others build an environment and mindset to get going.

      I struggle with sleep vs exercise. I’m chronically sleep deprived. But I will push myself to do a hit training workout or go running and do some strength training even if it’s 11 PM because I get off work late. But then the next day I see I put on 3 lbs. it’s just so frustrating. Especially as a woman because we have to balance what’s best for our hormone levels. Rest or exercise? Because too much exercise can raise cortisol levels making you fat.

None of my doctors suggested me to change my diet/lifestyle. I was only prescribed spironolactone/ metformin/ oral birth control pills. Now after modifying my diet & starting strength training, I have lost 13 kgs, depression has subsided and random blood sugar tests throughout the day came normal. All thanks to influencers like you. This made so much sense to me. People think I’m crazy when I say I’m fasting and I love feeling hungry because I’m in control and hunger means it’s working. If I were not hungry then that means my body is adjusted and I don’t want that.

    • @HeavenNY
      @HeavenNY 6 місяців тому +5

      When I used to intermittent fast for 16 hours a day…after a few weeks I often didn’t get hungry and somedays wouldn’t remember that I had forgotten to eat until it was nighttime and even though I didn’t feel hungry…it was still working because the weight was falling off. Lost 15 pounds in the first four weeks and I only had to lose 18 pounds to get to goal 😁. So you don’t have to struggle for something to work.

    I love the part about no solutions only tradeoffs. That makes so much sense when you look at things that way. We're always trying to find solutions that make us comfortable. Usually what we really want makes us uncomfortable so we don't do them. Instead of taking the uncomfortable for a bigger payout, we usually choose comfort and limit ourselves from ever getting what we really want. Solutions are limits and trade offs take the limits away.

      10gms of L-glutamine powder added to some tasty bcaa’s mixed in 4 cups of water after ur workout. Weight lifting will help u lose fat more than just cardio so do cardio 15-30min for ur heart then lift weights. Vegan diet doesn’t equate to healthy or weight loss unless maybe only Whole Foods gluten free low glycemic…. Some people do great on the starch solution by mcdougal or 80/10/10 by dr graham…. Other people do better on the following: carnivore diet , clean keto, or dirty keto. Abs are made in the kitchen and the most important foundation. Intermittent fasting helps in conjunction with a healthy diet that works for you. If u have any autoimmune diseases look into mikayla Peterson carnivore, dr ken berry both have videos UA-cam.

    I used that same control method to quit smoking. I went to the bar (people still smoke in bars in Idaho) and I would just be surrounded by people smoking, friends smoking. They all thought I was crazy for putting myself in that environment while trying to quit but it was the only time that I was successful at quitting... It's been 7 years now...

    Damn,…..Tom speaking really hit me! I’m going through everything he said he went through about being in his extreme eating and how he controlled it, but was always hungry! I’m there right now. I’ve lost 22lbs in 35 days by being crazy strict Keto (loads of protein), and only eat in ting 1200-1500 a day. Some days I’m good, but some days it’s been really really brutal. I know that going about this fat loss as I’m doing it is extreme, but my mindset is get it done as fast as possible so I can get my damn life back! 20 more lbs and I’ll be there. I should be at my goal weight by the end of January as long as I keep my brutal eating and continue burning 500-750 calories a day at the gym.

      Update: 60 days in the other day and down 35 lbs. it wasn’t easy that’s for sure! Was hungry most days, but stayed true to 1500 calories a day and lots of cardio. Are lots of chicken breast, gave up lots of eggs for just 1 egg and a cup of egg whites.

    Wow! What a fantastic discussion! It reminds me that the art of discussion used to be taught in schools. Nowadays, it's another missing link in understanding the world and oneself. I really enjoy such reflections and podcasts like this one. Thank you so much for providing the opportunity to listen to the intelligent thoughts of thoughtful, beautiful, rational men. As a woman, I'm just curious about how your wives handle watching such transformations in you. Probably similar to how my husband copes with mine. I'm an experimenter myself, always digging for the truth that suits me. Though I used to suffer from hyper-generalization. It started with proper nutrition, low-fat, super clean, during puberty, which negatively affected my hormonal system. Then came five years of vegetarianism, followed by five years of veganism, then keto, and three years of a carnivore diet. After that, I was too fascinated with intermittent fasting and so on. Now, I've reached a point where I at least hope I can listen to my body. The balance of a mind always seeking something, including adventures, and the wisdom of an obedient body, has been found through a unifying soul. As a result, I've created many courses in Russian on mindful eating, which essentially uncover the pros and cons of each diet, from veganism to carnivore diets. They show people that you can do it this way or that way, or even in a completely different way, but in the end, it's important to find yourself, to listen to your body. Maybe it's time to start translating them into English, as the Russian-speaking audience isn't focused on this right now.

    Agree about the no solutions, it’s a push this way vs push that way. No way to really say and that’s that. So I look at thing in ranges vs balance. Get it in the range. Then expect luck, circumstances, quality, and all these other variables to help or hurt that result. Which in turn hard to gauge completely and isolate.

      Because they are scared to reset their life and starting on insecure grounds. Quitting your job and being jobless takes balls and courage because you know friends and ex collegues will look down on you. To create new healthy routines and resist your old habits is almost imposible if you live a stressful life with full time job.

    Fascinating points about the “dark energy” of feeling superior/super-human. Reminds me of discussions by ancient Christian ascetics about the temptation to “spiritual pride” that often afflicted advanced practitioners of the monastic life.

    I'm glad that at least your're discussing the unhealthy behaviors and mental aspects of this. (This = doing everything and anything to lose weight.) At the heart of all of this is an extremely unhealthy relationship with food and unhealthy body image. I really like the discussion of not trusting one's emotions -- however -- there are a lot of areas where one absolutely should trust their emotions -- and they don't at their peril. (Domestic violence situations, starting to date someone, seeing red flags and tamping those feelings down, for example.)

    Loads of comments mention quest bars, never heard of them. Are they available in Europe?
    I guess most folk think that if it's nicely packaged, well presented, well formulated priced right it's something you should eat.
    If it's made by those in white coats then prepare to be treated by those in white coats, worse... those in blue theatre scrubs.
    Thank you for uploading and sharing.

    My elderly mom was a type 2 diabetic for 12 years and switched to an exclusively plant-based diet (a version of nutritarian). Her recent A1C was 4.7% and her hs-CRP was 0.4 mg/L which is the inflammation of a typical teenager. According to the Levine Biological Age Calculator (Yale) based on bloodwork tests, she has aged minus 18 years (biological age) during the last 4 years. Serious question: can anyone beat that result? I am willing to learn.

    • @francisvlatko2834
      @francisvlatko2834 5 місяців тому +4

      I have the same metrics and I've been meat based for 4 years. I don't know about the Levine calculator and I was never a type 2 diabetic.
      If you gleaned anything from this discussion, it's that bio-individuality matters.
      The one thing we do agree on that everyone can do is measure their blood glucose and eat foods that keep it in check.
