Personally I like the notes system in the og Kazooie more, sure it's a bit annoying in like Rusty Bucket Bay or if you fall off a tree in Click Clock Woods, but they did a great job of subtly helping you navigate the level. Admittedly it wasn't super needed given you can basically 100% everything on your first trip and Kazooie's levels are more manageable, but honestly feel like Tooie would have at least gotten fewer complaints if they'd stuck with 100 individual notes and the best note system (because otherwise you'll see an area, collect the notes because shiny, then by the time you come back in 3 days later you can't remember if you actually explored the area or just got the notes and bounced). Also cement as in what's in the buildings.
Goldeneye 007 single-player has aged very well. The AI of the enemies was very advanced especially in 1997. Enemies can hear your loud guns; if you shoot a loud gun in levels where you are supposed to use stealth, many enemies will potentially hear it and come swarm you. Enemies will also use unpredictable patterns to get to you; you may expect them to take the shortest route, but they will instead take a longer route so they come up behind you and attack where you don't expect them to be. The game engine in Goldeneye's single player was and still is extremely fun and unique.
Yeah but there's so many flaws that can be exploited. Line of sight for enemies is very limited, many times you can see them but they cant see you. Also if you hug the enemy you're too close for any of their shots to hit you
You know how in the options menu on Diddy Kong racing there's a password system where you can enter a phrase and it'll unlock a cheat code? The best phrase you can enter is Jointventure which will unlock two players in The adventure which is a lot of fun because then you two can choose to work together to make sure that at least one of you gets first. Also here's something I learned back when I played this game in the '90s and if you actually let go of the accelerator and then boost green fire will come out and the boost will be faster. This works whether you're using the item for boosting from the blue balloon or if you go over a boost pad in the ground or the boost hoop in the air.
The SNES and N64 were my entire childhood. My personal favorites were Star Fox 64, Pokémon Snap, and Diddy’s Kong Racing. Countless hours and memories that will never be forgotten.

What ruined Kazooie to me is having to go back and net the notes again after you die. So basically, you have to complete every level on one life. It's BS. That's one thing the Xbox version fixed.
Only half way thru the video so far but as a massive Rareware fan (I’m from the same county) and N64 fan (my system from age 11-16) I’m enjoying myself. My order; 1) Perfect Dark 2) Goldeneye 3) Banjo-Kazooie 4) Banjo-Tooie 5) Conkers Bad Fur Day 6) Donkey Kong 64 7) Jet Force Gemini Love all these games. The other 4 I haven’t played other than a race or two of Diddy Kong Racing around a friends’ house. Rareware leaving for XBox ruined my late teenage years lol. Now, back to the video…
27:54 I fully agree with you. Perfect dark is easily the best FPS on the N64. I actually find it annoying how absolutely revered GoldenEye is. Don't get me wrong I actually like GoldenEye and I enjoyed playing it back then and I am enjoying playing it on the switch now, but perfect dark and proved upon it in every single way. More features in multiplayer more customization in multiplayer, two-player co-op campaign and then a mode I have not heard of before or since then with the counteroperative mode in the campaign which is also a lot of fun. So many great features and great weapons and I love the secondary functions and it's Just an awesome game that is more awesome than GoldenEye as it improved upon everything. Whenever I actually get out my N64 which right now is just locked up in my storage unit but whenever I actually get it the first game I always want to play is perfect dark because it is my favorite N64 game.
DK64 at 8 is quite a take. I dont agree with the criticisms on DK64 because I loved the game thus I loved collecting every single collectible there was. I just knew by collecting like crazy there was always going to be a good payoff...and there was. Very similar to Tooie...loved it because it took a game I loved and amped up the complexity. I was willing to be lost in it for hours struggling because the game is so good.

cement. this'll be a long one so get ready. i didnt even know the mickey game was from rare, i had it and i think there was 2 stages i never EVER figured out how to unlock. jet force: never played it killer instinct: i dont like 1v1 fighting games :D dk 64: i loved the dkc series so this game got me super hyped, but yeah i hated it. i could never put my finger on it but it always felt off. (nowadays ik its the ton of items and how none of the chars interact with each other) also for some reason, i never got the final coin(?) to fight the final boss, idk i swear my game was bugged. i liked the music and worlds but man this game, i dont like it. goldeneye: yeah i agree fully with you. it was awesome as a kid, super fun, but coming back? the controll is horrible, i hate it. absolutely hate it. and yeah some missions are confusing. great memories, prob a bottom pick for me nowadays. blast corps: never even heard of it. perfect dark: ive seen speedruns of it and idk it just doesnt appeal to me. i really cant tell you why. conker: my parents heard from a friend its an "adult" game so i never got the honor of playing it but ive seen so many memes over the years... really time i play it. diddy kong racing: i dont like it. cant tel you why, i just never liked it. maybe mario kart 64 just had me sucked in too hard. banjo kazooie and tooie: first things first: i never beat them as a kid cause i played them when i was 5-6 years old and back then i could BARELY read and the quizzes have a timer in both games. other than that... amazing games absolutely love them. i feel like they taught me about social interaction. love the music, love the world, the characters the noises they make when they talk, the googly eyes on everything. i do have to say tho that for me its very clearly tooie thats better. worlds are bigger and more connected, controlls are smoother (the fact banjos roll attack lets him move freely in tooie is such a huge plus for me) the amount of minigames etc. overall its just the better game, but both are fantastic, ive never realized the "more dark tone" but then again i was 5-6 years old. grunty industries... you have to enter this level with the train and back then i didnt know you can call the train from any station by reading the sign. i never opened the factories main door so when i save and quit i thought i softlocked myself and started over lol. yeah its a super confusing world but i like it. witchy world best, no questions asked. i think we mostly shit on the bosses cause the first game didnt really have any. yeah they are a bit boring, but they usually make up for it with funny dialogue aswell there you go :) found your channel randomly and if you ask me: yes old content
Cement, well more like asphalt. I'm in a parking lot. Anyways this is the perfect console to do a list of worst to best rareware games. Because if he tried SNES I think it's obvious the top three are just going to be the DKC trilogy and I don't know I mean I also liked killer instinct on the SNES but there weren't really any other games from rareware I played on that console. Although maybe the NES could be a curious one or the Game Boy maybe? Although the issue with Game Boy is near the top or at the top it's probably just going to be the Donkey Kong Land trilogy Although I actually hope to see donkey Kong land 2 be really low on the list because it tries too hard to be too similar DKC2
To this day I'm still shocked that not only did Rare make Conker's Bad Fur Day, but that Nintendo actually gave it their official seal of approval. Imagine being a parent and getting this game for your kid thinking it's a cute game for kids on par with Super Mario 64. And while I am miffed that GoldenEye was #7, I admit that I haven't played this game since I was a kid, so I may be biased because of nostalgia, but I get your reasoning as to why it isn't higher. Anytime you bring this game up, nobody ever talks about the single player; they all talk about the multiplayer.
I can totally appreciate where you’re coming from, but I loved the single-player mode in Goldeneye!! But I have to agree: that game can be downright frustrating and annoying at times!!
Pretty much agree with every spot, but I didn't see Banjo-Tooie getting the 1st place. I think the first one have the perfect balance of collectibles and world sizes. Something that the second missed the mark a bit.
I do think that rare pushed the n64 to hard in some of their games to the point where the frame rate bogs down too much. Nintendo played it smart with Mario kart 64 using 2d karts to help keep the frame rate up where Diddy kong feels a lot more sluggish.
Perfect Dark multiplayer doesn’t get the love because of how late in the console life cycle it was. We all moved to the spiritual sequel to this Timesplitters 2 as soon as we could!
Banjo-Tooie has had a hard time. BK was mindblowing and just like every other successor to very popular games you can only lose as a dev: keep it the same, you will be labeled as lazy and money grabber. Change it and you will be labeled idiots. They did very well with BT actually and the game "growing up" a bit makes sense as players grew up as well (kids becoming teens etc.). I guess the real problem was most players moving away from their N64 in 2000 so this game never really could shine the same way BK did.
To just disregard the remake's multiplayer as "generic" was a miss. It wasn't as good as the original, but it had many unique traits that set it apart from truly generic shooters.
#12 on the list Star Fox Adventures 😂 JFG and Donkey Kong have horrible sections where their ambition outstripped the controls and tech - the barrel jetpack?! They play test failures cemented their place at the bottom of the list. Maybe they are less bad on the remakes.
Goldeneye is still goated I will say it might be a skill issue however it’s a skill adapting to a janky “to todays standards” controls and lag which I didn’t find difficult then and don’t now but it’s an acquired taste.

I actually had no idea about these! wow you learn something new every day
I luv all of these game and this content. Thank u man.
Goldeneye. You had to be there to appreciate it. Amazing game at the time.
Donkey kong 64 is a zen garden for me. I acutally like collecting the stuff
The SNES and N64 were my entire childhood. My personal favorites were Star Fox 64, Pokémon Snap, and Diddy’s Kong Racing. Countless hours and memories that will never be forgotten.
My rating before watching the video:
1. Perfect Dark
2. Banjo Tooie
3. Conker's Bad Fur Day
4. Goldeneye
5. Diddy Kong Racing
6. Banjo Kazooie
7. Donkey Kong 64
8. Mickey's Speedway
9. Blast Corps
10. Jet Force Gemini
11. Killer Instinct Gold
None of them are "bad," but some are less good than others. Now to watch & compare! 😁
My rating after watching the video:
1 - Banjo Kazooie
2 - GoldenEye
3 - Perfect Dark
4 - Diddy Kong Racing
5 - Killer Instinct Gold
6 - Blast Corps
7 - Donkey Kong 64
Didn't play a lot, but didn't like what a played:
8 - Mickey Speedway USA
9 - Jet Force Gemini
10 - Conker's Bad Fur Day
11 - Banjo Tooie
Star Fox 64????
Grunty Industries is my favorite part of the game lol. It's also full of cement!
YES! BT getting its rightful spot.
Banjo-Tooie is hands down fantastic!
Nintendo 64 was the first console I ever used and Mario 64 was the first video game I ever played.
What ruined Kazooie to me is having to go back and net the notes again after you die. So basically, you have to complete every level on one life. It's BS. That's one thing the Xbox version fixed.
Yeah, that's awful
Only half way thru the video so far but as a massive Rareware fan (I’m from the same county) and N64 fan (my system from age 11-16) I’m enjoying myself.
My order;
1) Perfect Dark
2) Goldeneye
3) Banjo-Kazooie
4) Banjo-Tooie
5) Conkers Bad Fur Day
6) Donkey Kong 64
7) Jet Force Gemini
Love all these games.
I love the coin feature in Diddy Kong Racing because it get more difficult and you need a "tactic". Just a new drive. :)
Happy holidays my friend, I don't know how you do it in America but it is Easter here. I wish you happiness and even more success for you and your channel! May the world behold your incredible content!
Please know that I'm not trying to be rude when I say this but, I'm fairly certain that Easter is an international holiday
@@JoshuaJacobs83 No worries, to be honest I really had no idea. There are just so many religions and different churches, I really get confused about how it all works.
@@Fluffychoupikkoshappy holidays friend!
@@TotallyTubularJonathan Thank you! Btw don't mind me for asking but I really do wander since I know you are a major team ninja fan since all the way back to the ninja gaiden times so I was curious, have you even tried rise of the ronin? It's a game I was really enjoying at first while I ended up being rather mixed on, kidd you not 70 hours that took me to finish the damn thing and get most of the trophies, not the platinum of course. There's a shitshow going down on metacritic with players giving ridiculously high scores, and overall I am yet to find a review on UA-cam that paints the picture correctly. Anyway that's a long message, sorry for that but really I just wanted to ask if you have even tried the game.
@@Fluffychoupikkos all good, I will be talking about soon, I just beat yesterday at around 25 hours. Game was alright, but I didnt love it
Jet Force Gemini's biggest issue is the controls. I played it on Switch but ended up abandoning it.
Major props for putting Banjo-Tooie in #1
I would have put it on #3
Followed by Diddy Kong Racing on #2
And Banjo Kazooie on #1
Props for spoiling the video, you bozo
Thanks for ruining the list guy
Judging by your love for Blast Corps, were you a fan on the other destruction game on N64, Rampage?
Does Dinosaur Planet deserve to be counted as the 12th RARE N64 game?
Considering we got StarFox Adventures on the GameCube that was basically the same game only with StarFox Characters being inserted into the game's story and gameplay elements.
I dont know why longer gameplay is a bad thing ? DK64 is superb
Diddy Kong racing also has two unlockable characters which was a very foreign concept to me as a child for a racing game. I was so excited to unlock Tick tock lol He's so broken
Your opinion on Goldeneye absolutely SUCKS!!!
Goldeneye is top. Perfect dark is objectively better but is no where near as addictive and lacks charm
Didn't care for the story or characters in PD. The expansion pak requirement was also bs. The game had some cool weapons and an awesome soundtrack, though.
@@godofwar2k6reborn I enjoyed the story and characters for what they were. Just found it wasn't as fun as Goldeneye and the soundtrack whilst memorable just lacked the punch of goldeneye. Overall it just lacked the feel and soul that made Goldeneye so special
Perfect Dark was an objectively better game than Golden Eye. It took everything that was awesome about Golden Eye and improved upon it. You casuals are delusional.
@@davidaitken8503 as I said, perfect dark is objectively better but for me lacks the charm of goldeneye. It's all personal preference for which one people prefer
I don’t think it lacks charm it’s just a different kind of charm. 007 is 100000x more iconic with the music, sound effects etc.
Jet Force Gemini was one of those games that was so complicated and I had it at like age 9 or 10 that I just did not know how to play it or what to do with it whatsoever
Great video I agree with your list completely.
I grew up with KI in the arcade so I absolutely love it!
Are you seriously complaining about the objectives in the quest single player missions?
Some of these games I play on emulators cuz it makes it much easier cuz I can save my progress at anytime, so if I mess up, I can just reload my game save.
I remember Jet Force Gemini looking *really* cool, as a kid.
cement.
this'll be a long one so get ready.
i didnt even know the mickey game was from rare, i had it and i think there was 2 stages i never EVER figured out how to unlock.
jet force: never played it
killer instinct: i dont like 1v1 fighting games :D
dk 64: i loved the dkc series so this game got me super hyped, but yeah i hated it. i could never put my finger on it but it always felt off. (nowadays ik its the ton of items and how none of the chars interact with each other) also for some reason, i never got the final coin(?) to fight the final boss, idk i swear my game was bugged. i liked the music and worlds but man this game, i dont like it.
goldeneye: yeah i agree fully with you. it was awesome as a kid, super fun, but coming back? the controll is horrible, i hate it. absolutely hate it. and yeah some missions are confusing.
great memories, prob a bottom pick for me nowadays.
blast corps: never even heard of it.
perfect dark: ive seen speedruns of it and idk it just doesnt appeal to me. i really cant tell you why.
conker: my parents heard from a friend its an "adult" game so i never got the honor of playing it but ive seen so many memes over the years... really time i play it.
diddy kong racing: i dont like it. cant tel you why, i just never liked it. maybe mario kart 64 just had me sucked in too hard.
banjo kazooie and tooie: first things first: i never beat them as a kid cause i played them when i was 5-6 years old and back then i could BARELY read and the quizzes have a timer in both games.
other than that... amazing games absolutely love them.
i feel like they taught me about social interaction.
love the music, love the world, the characters the noises they make when they talk, the googly eyes on everything.
i do have to say tho that for me its very clearly tooie thats better.
worlds are bigger and more connected, controlls are smoother (the fact banjos roll attack lets him move freely in tooie is such a huge plus for me) the amount of minigames etc. overall its just the better game, but both are fantastic,
ive never realized the "more dark tone" but then again i was 5-6 years old.
grunty industries... you have to enter this level with the train and back then i didnt know you can call the train from any station by reading the sign. i never opened the factories main door so when i save and quit i thought i softlocked myself and started over lol.
yeah its a super confusing world but i like it.
witchy world best, no questions asked.
i think we mostly shit on the bosses cause the first game didnt really have any. yeah they are a bit boring, but they usually make up for it with funny dialogue aswell
there you go :)
found your channel randomly and if you ask me: yes old content
What do you think of RareWare's Dinosaur Planet that was released in February 2021?
To hear people dog on DK64 is a shame. The game was S tier when it came out.
Keep it up with more retro content!
It's the cement that holds this channel
To this day I'm still shocked that not only did Rare make Conker's Bad Fur Day, but that Nintendo actually gave it their official seal of approval. Imagine being a parent and getting this game for your kid thinking it's a cute game for kids on par with Super Mario 64.
And while I am miffed that GoldenEye was #7, I admit that I haven't played this game since I was a kid, so I may be biased because of nostalgia, but I get your reasoning as to why it isn't higher. Anytime you bring this game up, nobody ever talks about the single player; they all talk about the multiplayer.
Imagine being a parent and not being able to read the warning on the game's box that says that the game is not suitable for children.
@@mr.awesome6011 🤣
When I first farted an egg into a pot while playing Banjo-Kazooie and it said "fuck you".... never did a video game make me laugh harder than that!🤣😂
Everything from Battletoads on the NES to Kameo Elements of Power on the XBox 360 was GOLDEN to Semi-Perfect Silver in my eyes from RARE.
I loved grabbed by the ghoulies art work still holds up even today
I can totally appreciate where you’re coming from, but I loved the single-player mode in Goldeneye!! But I have to agree: that game can be downright frustrating and annoying at times!!
Oh, such a nice list. One day I will catch up on Conker and Tooie. Cement!
I love how you say that, I haven't played them either and idk why lol.
1. Perfect Dark
2. Diddy Kong Racing
3. Banjo-Kazooie
4. Goldeneye
Top 4. I've played every game on the full list but I really like these instead.
Pretty much agree with every spot, but I didn't see Banjo-Tooie getting the 1st place. I think the first one have the perfect balance of collectibles and world sizes. Something that the second missed the mark a bit.
Wow, forgot how few polygon could be textured on screen- the graphics really stank even for the 90s
I do think that rare pushed the n64 to hard in some of their games to the point where the frame rate bogs down too much. Nintendo played it smart with Mario kart 64 using 2d karts to help keep the frame rate up where Diddy kong feels a lot more sluggish.
12:37 I guess Super Smash Bros doesn't count as a fighting game?
Perfect Dark multiplayer doesn’t get the love because of how late in the console life cycle it was. We all moved to the spiritual sequel to this Timesplitters 2 as soon as we could!
Should have at least been an honorable mention for Dinosaur Planet.
Yeah but it was only a tech demo and then turned into Star Fox Adventure on NGC so it was never on N64.
@@superdave3093 the N64 version leaked 3 years ago and modders have managed to reverse engineer the game to the point where it's mostly complete.
Perfect Dark is way harder than GoldenEye. Did you complete PD on Perfect Agent? So many insta kill points
To just disregard the remake's multiplayer as "generic" was a miss. It wasn't as good as the original, but it had many unique traits that set it apart from truly generic shooters.
#12 on the list Star Fox Adventures 😂
JFG and Donkey Kong have horrible sections where their ambition outstripped the controls and tech - the barrel jetpack?!
Mickey Speedway. I always forget that game exists.
What happened to rare after N64?
My favorite rareware games from n64
Goldeneye based on the movie 🎬 starring pierce Bronson and Sean bean
Donkey kong 64
Banjo Kazooie
Diddy kong racing 🏁
Conker's bad fur day
I totally agree with your Top 3!
Tooie is the most underrated game ever. Not many games are above it, maybe Ocarina of Time, but that's it.
CEMENT! Let's do more N64 stuff!
Seeing JFG, DK64 and 007 so low made me stop watching this video. -_-
You have to accept that they're not that good they are exactly where they belong dk64 is the worst of the rare platformers
@@Jackbat69 this is just one guy's opinion. Many people are fond of those games especially Goldeneye.
@@the757general2 That's fine I just think it's boring I prefer turok on the n64
Wishful thinking hoping that all the Rareware N64 games will come to Switch !
We just need Rare Replay to be ported to Switch and Steam, world love to be able to play on my Steam Deck.
@@leecroft1983 That would be so awesome if Microsoft allowed them, not sure if the Switch is powerful enough to run Xbox 360 games, if Microsoft say yes might have to be on the Switch successor !
I also love banjo tooie so much. it was kinda like dark souls with the connected worlds.
My top 3 perfect dark, goldeneye, dk64 and bonjo kazoi both same good for me.
Bonjo Kazoi
I’ve only played Donkey Kong 64, Conker, Banjo-Kazooie and Goldeneye. Goldeneye has aged but still a good time I was born in 2000 so I grew up with more modern shooters with better controls so it was a bit of adjusting, Donkey Kong 64 is a good game but Jesus Christ going for 101% is a tedious slog. Both Banjo Kazooie and Conker are some of my favourites of all time
Dk64 8th? What a joke game gets way too much hate
Never played blast corps but my god did rare make some bangers on the n64
Ooo this is my territory. Happy to see Tooie up top, but sad to see DK toward the bottom.
What about Clayfighter
there's legit 7 games that I can put in the top 5....
1.Goldeneye
2.DKR
3.Conker
4.Perfect Dark
5.Banjo
6.KI
7.Banjo 2
Check out Instruments of Destruction and Teardown for a modern-day Blast Corps fix!
Cement!
Banjo rooie hot take but best 3D platformer on the n64
