happy i grew up with mw 2005 on ps2. I recently played it again on pc after all these years and i almost started crying. everything is just perfect.. car sounds, soundtrack, car selection, the story etc.
If it weren't for the unstable nature of the pc port, I'd say it's the only way to go when playing NFSMW 2005 cuase the ps2 version makes my eyes ooze blood from the Vaseline smeared yellow filtered graphics(more a problem with the ps2 than anything) the gamecube version is tolerable and the 360 is Supreme. The pc version with the 1080 res patch is real candy for me, and it really completes the perfect package.
It sucked because they would spawn right in your way you didn’t have time to react. Plus once you hit a car and went into slow motion it would send your car flying uncontrollably while the AI hits something and just keeps going.
@@riz984 Not a skill issue. A lot of the time, especially in some jumps they just spawn right ahead of you and it is impossible to do anything at that point as you don't have any control while you are in air. And yes, the game has some weird AI at some points. Although the game is game and the game I played the most in my childhood, now after playing it again I understand why I used to mostly play drifting events.
@@adviththegreat5610 "not having control in the air" ? so just like real life? and the traffic only seems like it's spawning unfairly because you're literally street racing
@@riz984 Street racing going on without any police or consequences? Nearly no amount of humans on the streets? Car not getting damaged even after hitting a wall at nearly 200 kmph? Don't act like an idiot. This clearly is a design flaw in the game where you seriously meant to 'enjoy' street racing in 'game' but there are unavoidable traffic that seriously drive into you instead of saving their car insurance like in real life. And in a lot of places they place traffic idiotically even while you are airborne and there is basically no way to save yourself from hitting the traffic, so if they really want us to enjoy the game, just give is the ability to have control in the air which can be added in a 'game'.
Personally I think the Burnout series was a little too arcade for me. I don't want a complete sim, but I do like licensed cars, heavy customization, actual FWD/RWD/AWD, and above all I need a manual transmission. The first game was great, but I stopped liking it more and more as the series went along. Burnout 3: Takedown in particular was like a racing games for people who hate racing games, with its lack of a manual trans and heavy focus on the crash modes. I think that's why it's so universally praised: it was enjoyable to people who typically hate racing games. But most people who love racing games are probably going to have hard time enjoying being forced to drive automatics.
Can’t agree with the NFS Payback hate. I remember a few years ago going to my friends house and we were like 6 or 7 people, just drinking before hitting a club or going to a party trying to beat each others records in the drifting events. I got a lot of love for that game.
Same, the upgrading sistem is bad and the story can be a bit cringe but damn, the drift events and the offroad events were amazing. Also the fact that you had a different cars for every event. Also half of the music playlist was great
Yeah he ranked it way too low, the story I agree is cringe but the gameplay and all the builds you can create and all the hidden cars around the map. One of my favourite NFS games for sure!
I'm not surprised that most people like him find the soundtrack "mid". It's not the songs fault for only to be heard in free roam I mean blame the people who was in charge of the music but him and everyone else can't deny that the crew race music sounds epic.
But carbon had some fun features You can have a wingman in the race that can help you And the drift races are incredible, and the canyon races were fine I understand it is very similar to most wanted but after all, it is the sequel to most wanted, it has to be similar @jouuie9822
Maybe he had a different time with these nfs game and I think why did he disagree the most of the nfs list. Maybe he played on easy difficulty, wait a minute 🤔
Seeing what MW2012 was allegedly supposed to be just makes me sad. Criterion was really trying to make the game awesome and an actual sequel to MW2005, and it could’ve been the best modern-day NFS game ever made. But of course EA is EA, so instead we got Burnout Paradise with the NFS name on it.
@@corbinjackson2425 I know. Matter of fact, a friend of mine got a dev kit that had MW2012 on it. I think the build was dated in April of 2012. I did see videos of one of the prototype missions was... holy shit... God tier. If it was given a shot, if Criterion could go back to the drawing board, improve the graphics, make the storyline from that... we could get MW2, but EA needs to let Criterion actually MAKE the game, given they gave up the license to Criterion.
@@phoenixcooper8844well there’s a teaser at the end of unbound that razor got released from prison and got the m3 back. So maybe the next nfs criterion will make the most wanted they originally wanted too.
Thanks for sharing this list. Especially love that you gave a good review about Carbon as I feel that game gets severely overlooked purely due to following Most Wanted. Most Wanted is my favourite in the series too: police chases were incredible and cinematic in how outrageous they were. Love speed trap races as an addition. The structure of the game is also untouched in superiority in the series. My only major gripes were the drag races were awful to get through and some races were really unfairly hindered by rubber-banding (Earl's blacklist race especially 👀). As much as I love this game, I think people forget about these issues with it.
@@EricWalkerUk I honestly forgot. I recently played it on my PS2. I would be dominating the races then out of nowhere due to rubber banding, the ai beats me at the very end. I must have played dirty years ago to win. I'm not like that anymore.
controversial ranking but very based I do think The Run deserves more love, as someone who loves to speedrun, I admire its near-perfect and hyper varied 2hours30 length, and the challenge series and nice cars keep it interesting
i cant believe the run was that short i loved the game when i played when i was like 10 or something and i swear to god i put heaps of time into it and i didnt even finish it but damn i reckon i have to go back and play that one again
HP2010 is the only games i can't put down without finishing. Ive returned to so many games in my life but this is the one that holds my attention from start to finish. The progression is just zenith material
For me: - Carbon is number 1 - Undercover is number 2 can you please explain why you gave such as bad ranking (comparing to other need for speed games) to undercover? I never understand the hype with most wanted, carbon is way better.
Congratulations on reviewing all 256 NFS games. I was wondering if any human had ever played them all and thankfully there is you! Seriously, a bunch of them are on sale right now and I legitimately had no clue where to begin looking for the best game in the series. Your video was a huge help to me. Thanks!
For a console gamer, the original game was unbelievable. Back in 93 on the 3DO, we had never seen a game like that. Yes it’s slow with pop up, but coming from Race Driving to that was mind blowing at the time
Agree with your ranking of HP2010, playing it really does feel like all the good memories we have of the old Hot Pursuit games and generally old arcade racing games. Cool looking varied environments, fun powerslides, awesome sense of speed. Disagree with your ranking of MW2012 though, maybe it's not a bad NFS game but to this day I haven't played it because whenever I think about it I realize I could just play Burnout Paradise with its VASTLY superior damage model instead. Making a game this crashy and brutal and having almost no damage model because lol licensed cars is unforgiveable. Also I don't think MW2005 is the flawless classic everyone else says it is, and I actually prefer Carbon because of its canyon duels and canyon drifts.
It's always amazing to see what the graphics from games from my childhood look like when I see them today. I know sometimes the issue is that they're being rendered in resolutions that they weren't designed for, but I can remember thinking that the cars in NFS 1 and 2 on the PSX were essentially photorealistic. It's even crazier when I look at old NES games where I can remember all kinds of details about the character but now the sprite just looks like dirt smeared on the screen. I clearly had a terrific imagination as a child because I can't even really make sense of it now. One thing that didn't get mentioned here about NFS 2 was that one of the big changes they made to it from the first game besides the sense of speed was that they added a ton of jumps and shortcuts to the maps to make it even more of an arcade racer.
You played on CRT screens which definitely made the graphics look difference. There's quite a few examples on the internet, it made everything smoother and less blocky
Prostreet and NFMW05 both are my favorite NFS games, I still have some nightmares with Nevada in the speed events, also Prostreet with graphics mods and some tweaks with VltEd hits very different, and playing MW while listening to Disturbed Decadence, just makes me smile.
This is exceptionally well structured, informative and entertaining video. My full respect for your dedication, man-hours and effort that you've poured into this project, really an outstanding job. Praising aside :), my childhood was NFS Porche and Hot Pursuit 2 - PC versions on my first PC back in 2002-3. On Porsche we would make a Lan connection 4-5 people of my village and race at Sunday night, before school on Monday, I would pick the car Moby Dick and spin on the road like my life depends on it. The good old times, am I right :).
Same here! My first NFS game was Hot Pursuit 2, And I played it a lot. Back then, We lived in a rural area, so video game stores were not available. So I was stuck with Hot Pursuit 2, Road Race, And Vice City. These three made my childhood. I remember one day I accidentally deleted the game files and cried a lot
We all hate mission 95. I remember a reviewer saying that if you downgrade your car, the CPU downgrades too, and it becomes easier because you're driving a slower car. Mission 95 was the absolute worst and I'll never forget it
I must admit, I bought Hot Pursuit 2010 not too long after its release and then didn't play it for an age. When I eventually come to it, I'd been playing a lot of full-blown sims so was hugely disappointed, but on the third attempt I fell in love. As someone who played the heck out of NFSIII and High Stakes, this felt like a genuine effort to do a modern remake of them, even to the point I found myself recognising tracks and sections of tracks that were in the original games. Playing both cop and racer got really intense, the AI is good enough. I noticed the rubber-banding too often which did infuriate and the mid-race cut-scenes got in the way a lot, but overall, Hot Pursuit 2010 is, at the end of the day, just loads of fun to pick up and play.
As a person who has played nfs 2 in my childhood it does start to feel easy and you get the hang of speed, and I really liked the sense of speed and getting stressed out on every corner playing with my brother. The tracks were all really good, they were detailed, and yeah I do agree with cars properties being the same and I think that is the only thing that it lacks in. It really was an amazing experience.
Underground is my favourite ever! The cars are top tier, the customization is top tier, the soundtrack is top tier. Also, you didn't mention the magazine thing and the drfitng races. Those are awesome
So many great ones. So many duds. You can always say that NFS has tried different things. High Stakes, and Shift 2 Unleashed are two of my favorites that seem to get forgotten a bit. I also really liked Unbound, until it came to the in game market. I feel like there's so much grinding required to have any money.
Underground 2 was amazing, but the 1 thing that always bothered me was that there was no cops. I remember seeing my friend play the other game with cops chasing him and I wanted to experience that. But the car customization was second to none at the time and still so compared to many games today.
In the Run, half the tracks are actually the same, they just change the weather type, day time and reverse the track. If you play the game multiple times you’ll notice that after a few races it’s the same race but in reverse with almost all the desert, forest, countryside maps
Great video mate! I was just wondering why you havent included NFSW (Need For Speed World). I heard it was very like Most Wanted in terms of map design and such but NFSW had such a big role in my racing game experiences. : )
It was basically Most Wanted and Carbon added together and made online only, was a pretty good game, but they fucked it up with the pay 2 win model and all the cheaters

At least I could understand why from a personal opinion perspective. Underground 2 has the best open world ever. What I DON'T understand is MW 2012 being number 4 on the list especially when he described it like it's the average nfs game with a ok'ish open world 😂
Porsche 2000 was the first NFS game I played and I thought it was great. Like a book it took a bit to get into but after that it was riveting. The progression brought across the board improvements from handling to power and also introduced to me quite an intricate upgrade system. This game also gave a history lesson into Porsche which made me appreciate why the brand is still so popular in the real. A well rounded game and my fave until Most Wanted.
i was a little mad at first that you considered NFS 2 so low, nfs 2SE on pc isnt that grainy to be honest . but i sat through your video and that gave me some good insight on some of the games i missed. thank you for taking the time and effort to make this compilation. Cheers

The worst thing about Most Wanted is that it's so good, it makes all the other ones seem bad in comparison, especially since EA got it right once or rather twice because Underground 2 and Most Wanted came out back to back and were both great, but it went downhill from there, with a few exceptions. Carbon was still okay, driving didn't feel as fast as in Most Wanted, but after Carbon I hated every game besides Hot Pursuit 2010, after which I stopped playing NFS. I tried the newer Most Wanted 2012 but I quit the game after 5 minutes when I realized cars are just sitting in the open world waiting to be found... Maybe it's a me problem, because to me, Most Wanted carries with it progression through a black list, where cars are unlocked by beating the rivals and getting their pink slips, and now this game that uses the same name is just going to give me cars because I exist? Fuck that. That was the last nail for me, I stopped caring about the series, until very lately where I wanted to see if they released anything good, but honestly I don't think I missed out on anything
Why do people always forget about NFS World??? It was an amazing game , and even if it was shut down there are people who brought it back to life and keep it alive and update it on the regular.
just beat underground 2 two weeks ago and am currently playing most wanted 05; hot take - underground 2's handling is better, cars seem to slide a lot more in most wanted
It was kinda fun for a bit if you ignored the ultra-contrived plotline. Hasn't aged well, looked awful last time I loaded it on Steam, but the late-00s PS3 me was OK with it.
You left out the most important thing about NFSU2 and thats the dyno tuning, learned so much as a kid from it and i think that feature was what interested in me into car tuning in general irl.
need for speed most wanted 2005 was my first NFS game i played and i LOVED it, along with carbon, and honestly i would say Heat, it is too bad i didnt get to play the first and second underground games, but yea NFS most wanted 2005 is the best NFS.
Love this consolidated review! My journey with NFS began with HP' 98 (on a mate's PC) but have owned (and still have!) the original discs for High Stakes, Most Wanted '05, The Run, Shift 2 Unleashed, Heat (cloud download) and currently playing Unbound .. I agree with most of your rankings - High Stakes and HP had some of the best electronic music score (I have many tracks in my collection - RIP Saki Kaskas 😢) Most Wanted 2005 is the best there is, just like the E46 M3 (Despite the age, the magic of either the game or the car have somehow never been superseeded.. I owned a E46 325 M sport coupe so am familiar with the E46 and currently own an F22 M240 coupe.. The F22 which is the closest I reckon to the E46 coupe in driving dynamics and feel) ... Im not too sure about Unboud (that anime stuff is just ...urggh) and tbh feel NFS Heat is 10 times better! The Polestar P1 also has potential to unseat the M3 as a modern all time great (Sadly Volvo don't make it in RHD for markets like Australia where I live)
Worst thing about V-Rally is the handling, I always remember it being garbage when I played a PS1 demo disc. Ridiculously magazines thought it was AMAZING, and then after a year later a bunch of them all admitted they were way to kind to it and it's actually trash. Also - Hot Pursuit 2 was the first to introduce police? they were back in the very first game. Do you mean the first time they were playable?
I'll comment on the NFS games I have played. -Most Wanted (2005): My introduction to the series, and what a way to get started. My personal favorite. -Most Wanted (2012): I honestly don't remember having that much fun with this one. Maybe I subconsciously compared it to the original MW and that could've had ruined the game for me. -Rivals: It could be me, but I felt this game was very unbalanced. I felt the police section of the game was a breeze, while the racer section was pretty hard. Again, maybe I just suck. -Undercover: It's been ages since I last played it, so I don't remember a whole lot. The story sucks hard, but I remember actually liking the game itself. Then again, maybe my opinion would change if I played it again. -Heat: I had a lot of fun playing Heat. Really liked the Day/Night system and the car selection. Finished the game with a Diablo, and that is awesome.
the fact that theres people who are labeling NFS Payback and NFS2015 - Cringe, but say that NFS Unbound is very very good, storywise and the corny animated effects - IT MIND BLOWING TO ME.
Here is my list of Top10, if anyone is asking : #1 NFS: Most Wanted (2005) #2 NFS: Underground 1/2 #3 NFS: Heat #4 NFS: Carbon #5 NFS (2015) #6 NFS: Payback #7 NFS: Unbound #8 NFS: Rivals #9 NFS: The Run #10 NFS: Undercover

@@pseysaw if you ask me personally, I love that game through and through. Didn't had problems with the driving (besides the buggy release) the story is truly what a basic "NFS" story should look like, also loved the idea of putting Ken Block and Akira Nakai in the game, and everyone should give NFS 2015 its flowers for the revolutionary customization and car list (that every other NFS copied).
The Porsche game was one of my personal favorites as a kid. Along with the obvious underground 1and2. But I played Heat a year ago or so and really liked it, aside from the drifting.
I have really good memories of NFS Porche Unleashed, first title I completed using a wheel, going through the years with the old models and finishing off with the faster more difficult to control cars was a nice touch. For sure underrated.
Man when Shift came out it was so different. It worked though Top Gear was getting pretty big back then and the transition from street to clean was a fun change. I loved the first person view too.

@Abdul Hadi Payback (like Heat) has the freedom of nitrous usage, more tracks and the freedom to use any car for any track. Basically more replayability than Unbound

ProStreet is criminally under appreciated, first game I played that teach me how to modify engine setups and weight distribution in cars
I love to see this comment before even opening the section fully because it's exactly what I was thinking. It needs a remaster pronto
I’ve only ever played ProStreet on the PSP but as a kid I was CONSTANTLY playing it.
I was a 12 year old kid coming from underground 2 and carbon to pro street so i hated it not having a big freeroam city i returned it the same week

The traffic in Underground was what made it so exciting to me. You had to be completely focused at all times and be able to react in split seconds.
It sucked because they would spawn right in your way you didn’t have time to react. Plus once you hit a car and went into slow motion it would send your car flying uncontrollably while the AI hits something and just keeps going.
@@isaacvera7802 skill issue
My favorite arcade racer series was Burnout. But I got burnt out after Paradise.
I see what ya did there
Personally I think the Burnout series was a little too arcade for me.
@@_Qwi_ manual is the only way to enjoy cruising in open worlds🤷🏽♂️

Can’t agree with the NFS Payback hate. I remember a few years ago going to my friends house and we were like 6 or 7 people, just drinking before hitting a club or going to a party trying to beat each others records in the drifting events. I got a lot of love for that game.
Same, the upgrading sistem is bad and the story can be a bit cringe but damn, the drift events and the offroad events were amazing. Also the fact that you had a different cars for every event. Also half of the music playlist was great
Same I like very much
Yeah he ranked it way too low, the story I agree is cringe but the gameplay and all the builds you can create and all the hidden cars around the map. One of my favourite NFS games for sure!
You couldve done that in any nfs game...
The off-road handling was so cartoonish I hated it so much and the AI during off-road would be more aggressive than when you’re getting chased by cops

Excuse me?
I'm not surprised that most people like him find the soundtrack "mid". It's not the songs fault for only to be heard in free roam I mean blame the people who was in charge of the music but him and everyone else can't deny that the crew race music sounds epic.

carbon is that one nfs game that nostalgia makes you blind toward its problems

You can have a wingman in the race that can help you
And the drift races are incredible, and the canyon races were fine

There actually WAS supposed to be a story in Most Wanted 2012, but you'd have to look at the prototypes for those.
The reasons you explained about MW05 is why it isnt a top 5 or #1 game for me anymore
@@sambeezy007 fair play, I get that. They're aspects people seem to overlook or forget about the game

i cant believe the run was that short i loved the game when i played when i was like 10 or something and i swear to god i put heaps of time into it and i didnt even finish it but damn i reckon i have to go back and play that one again
HP2010 is the only games i can't put down without finishing. Ive returned to so many games in my life but this is the one that holds my attention from start to finish. The progression is just zenith material

Believe me, most wanted 2012 had much more issues than the damage model.
Underground 1 needs to be higher , amazing city design , top music selection for the game and THE BEST DRIFT MODE EVER
What is CRT ? @@KepleroGT

The police in NFSMW 2005 is basically a hybrid of Heat and Underground 1.
Great video my friend
Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 was the first NFS game I played as a kid. I love that game.
Same here, Hot Pursuit 2 my first NFS
Pro street is top three all time nfs games. I’ve played all nfs and this holds a special place on my list🔥🔥🔥
We all hate mission 95. I remember a reviewer saying that if you downgrade your car, the CPU downgrades too, and it becomes easier because you're driving a slower car. Mission 95 was the absolute worst and I'll never forget it
Don't forget about event 103
I’m so happy that you give MW2012 love it was my first NFS game and I enjoyed it a lot.
Same here
Carbon being that far from most wanted is complete nonsense
The fact that you put Hot Pursuit Over Underground 2 🤦🏽♂️ I Am Severely Disappointed 😪
I prefered hp2010 than u2
the day they removed the VS Battle mode, thats when NFS got worst
So many great ones. So many duds. You can always say that NFS has tried different things. High Stakes, and Shift 2 Unleashed are two of my favorites that seem to get forgotten a bit. I also really liked Unbound, until it came to the in game market. I feel like there's so much grinding required to have any money.
For me all PS1 and 2 NFS games and NFSMW 2012.
Shift 2 me at least is the best modern racing sim no exceptions that game grabs you by the balls and like racedriver grid is a absolute blast
Take a shot every time he says "so here we have..."
Underground 2 was amazing, but the 1 thing that always bothered me was that there was no cops. I remember seeing my friend play the other game with cops chasing him and I wanted to experience that. But the car customization was second to none at the time and still so compared to many games today.
That's why it's advised to play Hot Pursuit or MW if someone wants cops 🙂
Then came Midnight Club 3.
What an effort of a video. It's exactly what I wanted :).
In the Run, half the tracks are actually the same, they just change the weather type, day time and reverse the track. If you play the game multiple times you’ll notice that after a few races it’s the same race but in reverse with almost all the desert, forest, countryside maps
Bricks my dude, excellent video! 😆 Your opinions made sense and the details on each experience was very good 👌
Great video mate! I was just wondering why you havent included NFSW (Need For Speed World). I heard it was very like Most Wanted in terms of map design and such but NFSW had such a big role in my racing game experiences. : )

Prostreet definitely deserves to be way higher, but I believe heat should be lowered while still being in the top 10.
Porsche 2000 was the first NFS game I played and I thought it was great. Like a book it took a bit to get into but after that it was riveting.

My journey with NFS began with HP' 98 (on a mate's PC) but have owned (and still have!) the original discs for High Stakes, Most Wanted '05, The Run, Shift 2 Unleashed, Heat (cloud download) and currently playing Unbound .. I agree with most of your rankings - High Stakes and HP had some of the best electronic music score (I have many tracks in my collection - RIP Saki Kaskas 😢)
Most Wanted 2005 is the best there is, just like the E46 M3 (Despite the age, the magic of either the game or the car have somehow never been superseeded..
The Polestar P1 also has potential to unseat the M3 as a modern all time great (Sadly Volvo don't
make it in RHD for markets like Australia where I live)
Finally a person who didn't roast the 2012 mw... you've just earned a sub.

Edit: 3 weeks later update:
1. Heat
2. Carbon
3. NFSU2
The rest I can simply do without except maybe NFSU and Payback. Why Most Wanted 2005 not here? That rubberband it so bad omg. I just recently played it and will probably never touch it again.
Carbon on the ps3 and 360 is untouched the graphics are amazing 😊
@@bigbody_business3601 Yes!!!
For me, I don't like Carbon.. I just like 4 Canyon races and dragging the vinyl figures..only played after 3x in a row playing Pro Street, Most Wanted and Underground
U think payback is better than unbound??
I barely see any reasons for it to be above unbound
@Abdul Hadi Payback (like Heat) has the freedom of nitrous usage, more tracks and the freedom to use any car for any track. Basically more replayability than Unbound
FINALLY , someone who reconuzw the beuty of Most Wanted 2012
Ik these lists are based on personal prefs and I will never use dislike button for this kind of video, but c'mon dude, Payback and ProStreet lower than Undercover NFS1 and 3 💀
Dislike button is there for a reason it’s for when you dislike something
Heat is undoubtedly the best modern NFS. Takes everything from the classic games and updates it.
One thing that's clear from this video, millennials were just as cringe as zoomers. Anyway well done on such a comprehensive series review.
Millennnials are the dumbest group of people I have ever seen these guys really have strapped up their nostalgia goggles on and don't even give a chance to newer need for speeds all they brag about is the "glory days of nfs" and ruin the fun for newcomers in the nfs series by bragging about how stupid they are by playing new nfs games and make nfs most wanted, underground and carbon the center of their topic they are really annoying...
