Me either....i dont think we have that much CCTV here in USA. But I've seen it alot in other countries...

Don't tell us how or what to comment. You just mad you're balding
I've never seen so much cctv footage in a case.
righttt like he didn’t even try to stay away from the cameras
And clear footage!! I’m tired of these blurry cameras not picking up anything. It’s 2021 we should all have visible cameras everywhere
@@nisalu yes! And all of our calls recorded! 2021
@@jerrson9020 I most certainly do not agree with calls being recorded.
@@nisalu you mean cameras that have clear surveillance footage? Not clear cameras ?
Grace was my friend, she was beautiful inside and out, I'll never forget getting that phone call, I was driving to work at the time. This is the first video I've watched on Grace, as I couldn't face it. So thank you, for covering her story so well and so respectfully ❤️ Grace ❤️
I'm sorry for your loss
I'm soo sorry for your loss ((HUGGS))😢
I am so sorry for your loss. Sending positive thoughts to you, Grace’s family and the rest of her friends. Hugs from Germany ❤
Deepest condolences.
Sorry for your loss of such a beautiful friend!
It eerie how similar Rachel and Grace look like. I remember seeing Grace's picture in the thumbnail of another youtuber's videos, and I clicked thinking that it was Rachel's video and the other person was the victim.
The second I saw the picture of Grace I came to the comments to see if anyone else thought this too
@@liveatessublime same
I saw the thumbnail on another channel too and thought, why are they doing a story about Rachel? This was an awful case to cover! Grace deserved so much more of the good times ahead of her in life and none of this monster!
Girl, same
I saw this video from someone else and I thought it was her 😮 Anyways, they look like alike alot...
All the places he went after he murdered her, and the people he was right next to in the elevator, taxi, and stores, and the next date. You never know the person you’re RIGHT NEXT TO. It’s terrifying!!
Absolutely
This is the exact thought I have everywhere I go; in line at the store, at the nail salon, on my work elevator. You name the place and I've wondered about this at that spot. It's enough to make a person a bona fide agoraphobe.
I was thinking that the entire time I was watching the CCTV footage. Like.. that guy who sold him the shovel. He had no idea he was selling it to a guy who just murdered someone. Absolutely insane
@@RachelShannon I know!!! Imagine his reaction when he saw the story on the news and realized who he sold that shovel to!
Absolutely amazing CCTV footage great job from the NZ police as well, also what a pos Jessie is
That journalist is so incredibly lucky that she followed her gut. I couldn’t imagine what he would have done to her, too. All while Grace is still inside of his apartment 🥺
I thought about that too.. at that point he was a man with nothing really to lose. It's terrifying.
💔💔💔💔
Imagine if she had gone back with him and seen Grace's body. She would have been victim no. 2
Ikr. Thanks God she was listening to her instincts. So sorry that Grace wasn't that lucky and she fell for lying charm from this monster
i’m guessing he was searching for any self-defense gadgets (pepperspray etc) when looking through her purse - just to make sure there were no “surprises” for him
Yes I saw a few people comment this and that is a really good point
And if you want proof he is an idiot, he didn't put back the purse remotely in the same spot it was in originally, you can even tell in the footage that Grace is wondering wtf is her purse doing on the stool
Siile it sucks she didn’t leave at that point 😔 RIP Grace
That was my thought also
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
The women who saw themselves riding the elevator with him must have had their blood run ice cold. Truly we just never know who is walking around out there.
I was thinking the same thing!!
Also I love how fast the police moved on this. Here they would be like eh she’s an adult she can go missing if she wants to.
I can't help but feel VERY grateful to have found my husband before the birth of online dating, etc. It is SO freaking scary out there! PLEASE be safe, ladies!! Always. And be prepared to defend yourself against the kind of men who hate women!
This!!! I met my ex through college, and was SO scared to break up with him for so long because I was simply afraid of online dating. But obviously I did what was best for me and I was lucky enough to meet a great guy through an app
@@RachelShannon I'm so glad to hear you got out safely. And ended up meeting someone wonderful :)
My mom's friend met a man online and moved across the ocean to marry him in 2003. They are still happy! Trashy and dangerous men are everywhere.
@@shelbyk7229 oh, I know. My ex fiance was a cheating piece of dog sh*t. But the new ways to meet people do seem to offer a stronger chance of meeting someone dangerous just because you have no idea at first if they're lying to you, since they could literally be anyone, anywhere in the world.
I wish I were that lucky smh
17 years and he could be paroled?? NO... that is NOT RIGHT... a life sentence for a life... And by "life" sentence, that should mean all of your natural life. Never should he be paroled!
Here in NZ if you kill some one you will get out at some point..... the only Natral life that has ever been handed down was the guy that killed 52 innocent peolpe.....its messed up...blessings
@@rastagirlnz America obviously has issues, particularly sending people to prison for DRUGS for longer than some serve for violence. But MOST of the time, when you are convicted of MURDER here, you will rot in prison. We need MANY reforms. But we typically don't allow killers to get out when they still have many years of life left to enjoy on the outside. I see lots of other places focus on reform, which I support for sure. But NOT when you've taken a life. You should automatically forfeit your own freedom when you rob another human of their right to life.
@@GenXfrom75 bUt He HaD a TrAuMaTiC LiFe..... Nah all jokes aside, I wish we could throw away the key, maybe we could ask aunty Cindy to try and change this, it really disgusts me
Agreed! Florida is pretty stiff on murderers. That's where I live. Lol
In new Zealand "life" often means 10-15 years, can get off on good behaviour earlier, it's shit. We need more justice here
I think people who die violently need to have their stories told just so that their pain can be shared. Even in death, their families need sympathy.
Agreed 100%
I agree!! I feel like a lot of times true crime youtubers want to avoid these type of cases bc of how violent they are & they are scared to be demonetized by UA-cam. It’s sad. There cases need to be shared. Solved or not solved. ❤️
Absolutely
@@RachelShannon but you look like grace......
OmG I haven't read such an amazing comment in a long time. So simple and yet so important. Thank you for reminding us all of the real reasons these stories are shared
Holy Smokes! Do they record literally everything in NZ? I’ve never saw this much footage. This level of footage would have solved so many disappearances in the US.
It’s similar in London. CCTV is literally everywhere.
I would be more than happy if our tax dollars would go towards this. Bc we need it probably more than anywhere else. The United States is so full of crime 🙁
Don’t worry….look up next time you’re walking outside…we already have the CCTV cameras…thank the Plandem!c now you’re all lab rats…being monitored 24/7….Problem/Reaction/Solution.
@@allispossible8447 I was thinking the same thing! Yet, there are more unsolved murders cases than ever. Lazy police work?
Or there would be potato camera footage
I bet he was rifling through her purse to see if she had any weapons on her, pepper spray, knife, etc.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such clear CCTV footage. It’s great that basically his every move was caught on camera, so he can’t really lie.
This is a sad story. It’s awful that a young woman can’t travel alone safely. 😢
I have respect for women who have the "balls" for lack of a better word, to travel out of country by themselves. Stories like this have made me not even want to travel with a friend let alone by myself . Jeez man , the fact that its not a serial killer or known violent offender yet his actions show serious red flags
Yes she was a very adventurous soul. Loved life it appears. I just wish in the US they had all these cameras. Since we’re the murder capital that we are. She should have had no problems spreading her wings and living life to the fullest without some coward murdering her 😢
They really found EVERY moment on camera!! He thought he was so sneaky. Wow.
HE CLEARLY WATCHED TOO MANY CRIMINAL TV SHOWS BC HE SEPERATED EVERYTHING AND REALLY THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO GET AWAY WITH IT...
You have quickly made the ranks of choice up there with Kendall and Stephanie 🥰🎉 thank you for the work you put in.
Don't forget Bailey and Brooke as well, they're all so great.
I absolutely agree!!
Eleanor is up there too... well my opinion lol (hopefully I didn't spell her name wrong)
Yesss, Eleanor too
@@renee3626 idk how I forgot her but didn't mean to, Josh is good along with Jon Chryms (fingers crossed I spelled his last name correctly)
Him saying “it’s crazy how one small mistake can change a guy’s life” as if he wasn’t referring to murdering a person. Wow poor you you have to go to jail as a consequence of your actions. A woman lost her life, a family lost a family member.
Agreed! He may have only “murdered” one innocent girl but the fact he’s sexually assaulted many and now he’s gotten a taste of murder he is absolutely likely to reoffend and should never be released from jail
Change a life ? You took a life. Someone's life was ended
He was an incel
I wish everyone dealt with these stories as gracefully as you. You always give the victims the respect they deserve and have such a reverent approach.
New Zealand is just like the UK. You’re always on CCTV, in the big cities especially.
Gotta love Big Brother watching over you.
If only the states were like this smh either there’s no footage, the cameras “don’t work” or they’re too dang blurry to make out any suspects
@@lailanimessina1473 exactly I hate it
Agree but the UK doesn’t have as much cctv as you would think, a lot of the cameras are fake or don’t work anymore, I think it should be illegal for your cameras to be broken especially if it’s a business or something
@@kieramcgregor 🕊️
As an American all this CCTV footage is crazy. Wish we could have this so we could possibly solve some of our crimes.
Cctv footage solves a lot of crime. Where are you at? Lol
@@nunyabidness6045 cameras are sometimes fake or record over within 48 hours in America.

Crystal...Big deal🙄
I don't get it, she seems like such a chill person & even went back with him and seem happy, this man was probably just looking for someone to klLL because there's no reason why he would do this to her. Seeing him on cctv is so creepy
She was very chill and a happy person and probably had such a nice evening. Until the obvious. Theres nothing she could do that would justify that happening to her. He had killing her on his mind from the start
I actually think it may have happened just as he stated it, except during the act of it he enjoyed it so much that he couldn't stop himself and intentionally didn't let go. I absolutely think if freed after 17 years he'd do it again. He'll only be.. what? 45 years old. He's disgusting.
May sweet Grace R.I.P 🌹

Yea and poor girl just thought he was really into her 😞

He looks like a giant carrot with that hair cut. So sick of all these narcissistic men.
Nah more like getting her to pay for the drinks
America take notes from New Zealand, we should have CCTV footage like this everywhere like they do. Maybe if we did we would be able to actually solve our own crimes!
South Africa needs to take notes as well😏
I was just thinking this !!
theres even cctv in the taxi's wow
I’m actually okay not being surveilled by the state.
@@sayoalawode55443 I feel you on that it’s a grey area because it would help solve a lot of crimes but also invades privacy
this is the like 10th story i’ve heard of where ppl have gotten killed by people off of tinder... yeah i’m NEVER EVER using any of those “dating” apps. good thing i haven’t in yearssss but still! this is so scary my goodness
So tragic, she went to my uni... I didn’t know her but we have a memorial for her 🥺
All I'm going say is why don't we have CCTV like this in the US? The fact that they could track every move he made down to him throwing away her items in a park trash can. I wouldn't care about being watched if it was being used for stuff like this.
Exactly what I was thinking the entire time. Like holy shizz, this dude never had a chance at getting away with this.
Cameras are terrible here
Exactly... Safety over everything
I do believe this killer is dumb.... they're are probably smarter killers in America... would love to see cameras everywhere in the U.S. though...
Because people don't want an overwhelming amount of surveillance due to privacy reasons.
I must say this case scares me! with cctv cameras watching his every move and his sickening demeanor as seen in every shot I just feel for poor Grace's soul and Grace's family! RIP Grace
When he's saying what happened he sounds like he's crying but as soon as he's asked another question suddenly he sounds fine. I think the scary thing is in cases like this is that they find it so easy to change emotion. The way he described what happened so easily also shows that he wasn't even regretting it at all. People like him really make u rethink so much too
@@LilahTheDino yup!! Well said :) I mean the fact that he went out on a date w a girl immediately after killing poor Grace and trying his story on his innocent date that night to test it out first before trying it eventually on the police makes me so scared? This guy is on tinder to prey on innocent girls :((
@@LilahTheDino Narcissistic personality disorder - they are amazing actors. Can even cry real tears, it’s horrifying to think about how much they can get away with because of their lack of empathy. Research the narcissistic cycle in relationships and I promise you’ll be so happy you did! It’s saved my life so many times. They’ll destroy you from the inside out if they don’t maim/kill their victim.
Yes sickening
When you showed the selfie I thought it was you, I couldn’t imagine how chilling that would be, but also so beautiful to share a connection with her. My prayers are with her family and loved ones. Im deeply sorry for their loss.
That feeling you describe...Junko Furuta is the only story I've ever had that reaction to. It made me physically ill and short of breath. I'm sure this one is going to be heartbreaking too.
Junko Furutas case left me absolutely beyond horrified. Visceral reaction Like my brain was trying to reject what I was reading.
Shanda Sharer is up there too for me.
I feel the same way about Junko's story. The suffering she endured was horrifying. It was disturbing to hear the details. That one will never leave me. We walk this earth with people who enjoy torturing others and would do it if they could get away with it.
@@LeeDee5 oh, yeah. That one too. Shanda Sharer brought tears to my eyes.
the toy box murders are really messed up. the details were so gruesome... it was a real life Saw situation
@@dontstalkme2405 Ugh yes, so messed up. I know it's awful but for some reason I feel like I didn't get to know the victims as individuals as much with that one, so somehow it doesn't hit the same way even though it's absolutely tragic and disturbing
Damn it’s only 15 minutes old and multiple people already said how similar you two look in the thumbnail lol I thought I’d be the first one
there’s a movie script in there somewhere; “True Crime UA-camr solves her own murder on her channel”
This is absolutely horrible and then him trying to "victim blame" is disgusting. So sad and I really feel for her family!! I truly think he's a phycopathic individual. Anyway, you're wonderful Rachel and I do appreciate all of your content you put into your videos.
Jesse might as well have worn a shirt with the front saying "I killed Grace Millane" and the back saying "and I'm not done killing"... this dude was pretty much handing himself over to attorneys
Didn't even try to avoid the cameras
@@Epicmango7 exactly he was acting like it's the 70s all over again with no new ways to catch a predator... that kind of thinking is what got his ass booked
Literally exactly what I was gonna say 😂 it’s crazy obvious
I’ve just read that Grace’s dad passed away just last November from a sudden illness..I feel just so terribly sad for this family, going through such pain and tragedy...life is so so cruel to good and loving people 💔
Died from a broken heart 💔
That's so sad 😭
Rachael, you are such a class act. Thank you for telling her story, you gave her a voice, as well as all of the other victims that cannot speak for themselves. Love you and your channel ❤
@Jo Black it’s not “cashing in”. It’s bringing awareness to give the victim an opportunity of having their story told in a respectful manner. As sad as this is, the truth needs to be told, the murderer needs to be known and people can learn life lessons from this. The creator of this channel spends hours researching and needs materials to provide the content. I suggest to think before you speak and make yourself look bad by being so negative.
@Jo Black Okay Jo Black. 😂 Just relax on the negativity a bit maybe? The world has enough of it. Peace and love.
@Jo Black okay Jo! Have a nice week!

It's especially upsetting for me to listen to true crime cases with victims who were younger than I am now. I'm 26 now and feel as though I still have so much to do and experience, so it's heartbreaking to hear about lives being cut so short.
I feel the exact same way. I picture every thing I’ve gotten to do past the age they were when they died, and it’s so upsetting.

There is no excuse here. Im not an expert on the topic, but I find it hard to believe if it was an "accident" that he wouldn't just call police right away or try to help her. He is so guilty, him claiming it was an accident is disgusting to me. My heart goes out to the family of Grace.
I know this case but thank you for covering it Jesse is completely guilty and Grace didn't consent to being murdered. He was getting off on strangling her an evil person
The way he cried telling how he disposed of her but suddenly stopped as soon as another question was asked shows he didn't regret it even if he did and does now the way he told what happened so easily is just messed up..
Yes! You and Grace do favor each other
I remember hearing about this case, I think Brooke Makenna covered it too. I agree Grace’s story is very uncomfortable to listen to 😩 and it’s very upsetting

I thought the UK sentencing laws were lax but NZ seems to be even worse....17 years and the other two terms to be served concurrently is just so wrong. Taking a life should mean life.....no chance of parole. 😲🇬🇧
I think he thought he'd won the lottery when he met a lone female backpacker that was into BDSM and intended to murder her and claim it was an accident. The fact that he watched some porn after he murdered Grace clearly suggests that he got some sexual gratification from it.
Hopefully the parole system works the same over there as it does here, where, being found guilty but maintaining innocence isn't specifically legal grounds to deny parole, it does essentially demonstrate a lack of remorse and that the prisoner isn't really participating in addressing their offending behaviour, and that can be a lawful reason to deny parole.
RIP Grace and her father David.
Thank you for the heads up on how difficult Grace's story is. I'll definitely watch the video, her story deserves to be heard. But tonight I'm not able, so I'll come back tomorrow 💜. Ive met love of my life through dating app actually and never for a single second did i feel unsafe..Grace was just really unfortunate 😔 with matching up with this monster.
I met my boyfriend through an app as well. It’s so common these days, it’s hard to even consider that things like this happen, but unfortunately they do 😔

So i can see how this hits home for you too, i was so shaken up by this case. Absolutely! Cassandra, I did the same thing. I actually forced one of my friends to give me her location and I was like “if I text u and u don’t respond before the night is over I’m coming to find u” 😂 and I made sure to tell my friends when I was going on dates as well! I've seen this case on two other channels now but had a ~moment~ when I saw you covered it, because in my eyes, you girls are TWINS. such a sad case, but in a way it feels like she's telling her own story through you
I agree 100%. It's eerie how much they look alike. I'm glad he was such an idiot and he was caught & there was so much CCTV to nail down a conviction and all the other women who came forward.
Just discovered you today . You are really good at this, no gimmicks, very engaging & you have a nice voice that is neither annoying or fades into the background.
I just found your channel and I am loving it. Kudos to you. I do want to add that you gus do resemble each other. I see why this hit so hard for you and each of you having the same aspirations and dreams
So horrible :'( im from uk too..dont believe for even a second was an accident.... he knew he was doing, feel like he was shopping for a victim...my heart absolutely goes out to graces family and friends, you can tell what a truly lovely girl she was. My hearts breaks for her that she came across this monster
There is literally no world in which this was at all caused by Grace. She is allowed to live her personal life however she pleases and the decisions she made that night are no different than those of so many other individuals her age (and even if this were not true it still wouldn't be her fault in any way). However, I hope we can learn from this. I am almost exactly the age she was when this happened to her and living alone in a foreign country. I haven't been on dating apps or even really going out to meet people in general due to the pandemic, but if I was I could easily see myself making the exact same decisions Grace did. She met him in a public place, got to know him first, and told a friend that she was with a man. Prior to seeing this case, this would have felt like enough. We trust that as long as we meet someone in a public place and get a read on them first, we'll be safe. We assume that we wouldn't possibly mistake a bad person or a killer for a normal date that we click with. It's so naive and yet nearly all of us do it. It's sad that this is the reality we live in, but it's so important to be proactive and take precautions in case we find ourselves in a situation that we couldn't have predicted. If anyone has ideas or suggestions on what other steps could have been taken/should be taken in similar situations in the future (hindsight is 20/20 of course) please comment them below; it might help someone in the future. A few that come to mind for me:
Send the location of anywhere you will be going that is not a public location (even better if you just send all locations you go to).
Talk about plans you have for the next day while on the date.
Call a friend if the situation allows (or have them call you) and tell them the name of the person you're with. This can be a very casual way to let the other person know that they will easily be tracked if anything were to happen (bonus points if it is a facetime call so they can physically see the person as well).
Mention that you have a friend or family member in law enforcement, even if it isn't true. If the relationship becomes more serious this is a white lie that can be easily explained and no reasonable individual would be upset with you taking precautions to protect yourself.
Draw attention to CCTV in whatever way you can (pose for the camera, ask a question about it, anything) so they know your movements have been recorded.
Yes..I had to look at the thumbnail twice, you two really do resemble eachother. Great job!
Your video was in my recommended, I had already seen coverage of this video, your coverage was excellent. You and Grace are both gorgeous young women.
I don’t personally see the resemblance between you and that poor girl, RIP. But I do see resemblance between you and NZ prime minister Jacinta! So beautiful x
I'm glad they caugt him because of all that CCTV footage. But maaan, thats scary how they can track your every move.
The way in the World is going it's looking like a lot like we're TRYING to head towards '1984'. There are a lot of ways we could help prevent serious crimes like this I think from happening but we don't do them.
We don't raise children decently (consistently). We don't keep criminals who perform violent acts against people IN jail, where they belong. In some cases we should DO the DEATH penalty and we DON'T.
And so we have MONSTERS running amongst us and they take out our brightest and best.
I really respect you for not disclosing the actual acts these women went through🌸🌼🌺💮🌱❤️💛💙🧡
