- Scrambler / Street Tracker Build On a Budget Challenge Ep.1
This is the first episode of a series to see if I can build a scrambler on a low budget but having a safe and cool looking scrambler bike once it's finished.
Here is my video on how I fixed the crack. • How To Fix a Leaking C...

How this started: My good friend was watching my videos and left me a comment challenging me to build a Cheap Scrambler / Street Tracker? I asked you as my subscribers who wanted to see this and the response was overwhelming :)
At the end of this build, I will be taking this bike on an adventure to go motorcycle camping where I will sit back by the fire and discuss the build in a little more detail with the guy that started this challenge.
Let's build this bike together :)
Share your ideas for this build buy leaving me a comment or a drop a link for me to check out, Keep in mind this is a Budget Build :)

It's great that the bikes they made back then can be made to look much better.👍
Great model for cafe racer.I wand to make it for old BMW.
Nice scrambler
i love this scrambler build. it feels like something i would undertake as a first step.
Thank you for the comment Richard :) I love all bikes and I'm very grateful to have the skills I do and thr room to play with the bikes not to mention the amazing comments i get from you guys :)
An interesting build, look forwards to the rest of the video,s.
Awesome! Looking forward to see this thing coming along. 😀😀
Kristoffer-robin Lotze thank you for your comment brother. Feel free to ad ideas to this build as it’s only just started.
I listen to all reasonable ideas that are budget friendly :) after all it is a challenge
congrats man! so inspiring.
You are one hardworking creator....🔥🔥
Well done finding the Carb Gremlins! They can be sooo frustrating!
Hi, lovely work, just start to watch your videos and I'll carry on ....lol .I have in mind to build something like this, just saving money , hope it'll be soon to keep me busy in winter.Your videos will be a great !!! help. Thanks a lot. Gus from Wales Uk
Keep up the good work buddy!
The engine looks cool from outside
KEEP GOING, MAN!!!
Im all over It lol :)
You're at that point where you could go any route you want. Personally, I'd love to see a street tracker but that's simply a matter of preference (I'm building one myself out of a Suzuki Bandit) and the fact that I love something different. The CX is a really easy platform to work with and, whichever road you take, I'm keen to see how you go with your budget.
Matthew Wright street tracker is definitely on the cards :)
Getting a 130mm rear tyre on the Honda Comstar wheels is where I’m stuck tho. 🤔
There you go .. Waiting for this 😂 excited for the outcome 😂
aljune fernandez haha 😂 I was watching and waiting for your comment to come in 👍😊
+Cafe Racer Garage haha actually I saw this vid. last few days but the comment section is off lol
Do you mind me asking where you are located?
+Cafe Racer Garage Philippines sir cheers ! 🍻😂
Painted engines on the CXs look sweet!
My 2¢
thanks man :D
Aghiles Brahmi you are more than welcome
Inspiring videos...!!!!
Just bought an unmolested mint 1981 CX500C and am going to do a similar build. I was wondering where or how you found that 18” reverse comstar rear wheel? I can’t find one anywhere ? Clearance withe the current 16” with a 130/90 is already tight, what size tire did you go with ? Thx, ken
Nice work mate! I would really love to see a pie cut exhaust. I think that would look great.
Carramba86 H that would be cool and I’m good at tig welding but I don’t own a tig anymore so I would need to outsource this and I’m afraid it will blow the $1200 budget really fast 🙂
Great idea tho
My CB900 had those same carbs and I ran into a similar problem with those rubber plugs. Mine were there, but were cracked and leaking. Ran rich until I fixed. I've owned three cx500s in my lifetime and miss every one. Love em.
Urban Monk TV I’m learning and sharing as I go :) Thank you for the comment brother, I can imagine how you would feel as they are fun little bikes. My new plugs arrived and are in now 👍 it’s still not running very well tho 😐 I’m running out of ideas as iv now replaced everything in the carby apart from the floats and I’ve done 2 1/2 turns out with the mixture screw
Cafe Racer Garage Couple ideas...Have you looked at the air valve diaphragm on the side of the crabs? If they are hard or cracked they can give trouble. I soaked mine in glycerin for a few days. Also, if you put the stock airbox on does it run better? I've read these particular CVs are very finicky about the air flow going into them. I had the stock airbox on my cb900, got it running great.
Urban Monk TV I have two new air cut of valves Installed, replaced all jets, gave it an ultrasonic bath, replaced all O-rings etc etc. Basically everything in this video plus more has been done to them so far.
I even found the old tiny O-rings in the Air/fuel mixture needle port were still in the hole, oops 🙊 I didn’t see them the first time I cleaned it out. Didn’t fix the problem tho.
I Can get the bike started and running but it backfires out of one carburettor so I thought that must of meant it was running lean so I upped the fuel air mixture by half a turn and it started to bog down as soon as I tried to rev it.
If I take the carburettor off the Paris (the other CX) it runs fine with no airbox and this carburettor is set to the same settings as Paris, that’s what has me puzzled 🤔
Cafe Racer Garage You're on top of it. I always hesitate to offer advice from afar, but just wanted to help. I'm stumped sorry. There's some good threads on these carbs on www.cb750c.com. The administrators there are very knowledgeable- perhaps try asking there. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Urban Monk TV all good brother, thank you for trying, I will work it out eventually 👍
It’s probably something simple to someone who knows what they are doing
Hi Dan- your video was very timely... it’s been a car carburetor weekend for me. I’ve been throwing things around my garage because my wife’s ‘59 Autobianchi Bianchina Trasfomabile that she shows at car shows up and down the eastern seaboard of the USA here has decided to have an “Italian” problem! I hate carburetors! Hope you’re having fun with yours... PS, Scrambler or Cafe are my votes... hope all is well there, mate.
Gary A yes carbys can be very tricky that’s for sure. Sounds like your wife is a rev head like us lol 😂 nice work 👍 my wife is also into cars :)
Hope you sorted out her carby for her
Cafe Racer Garage thx, Dan... am on my way with carb in my hand to local garage. Couldn’t sort it out with the tools I have. Wifey likes to drive and collect only. Clean hands for her!
Can u do a rear monoshock, man? That would b aweso M e!
Never seen an overflow tube crack like that, crazy.
Was fun to find thats for sure, here is the video on how i fixed it ua-cam.com/video/LGA26Azs-lQ/v-deo.html
Which CX 500 is it exactly? Can't find it anywhere
Do you have a finished parts list? Part number for the gators that fit? Exact info for rear wheel? Ect?
I know this is a Cafe Racer channel but it would be awesome if y'all could build a Nighthawk 650 bobber. I love the way the cafe racers come out with this bike but I wanna see a bobber build.
Its on my list :)
Wow. Pretty daring to start that tracker project at the same time while your CB still isn't finished... Don't you have problems with focussing when building two bikes at the same time...?
Chiefpep no, 2 is ok but 3 would be to much. I don’t intend on doing everything to the CX. Only enough to make it cool and so I can ride it.
Thank you for your comment Pep :)
I'm happy the CX is getting some time. :-)
You shouldn't need to adjust the flat in the carbs of the CX. The plastic floats are set, and nothing to adjust. I highly recommend Larry's carb book specifically for these carbs.
I built my CX for about $1300. That includes all the powder coating and the original purchase of the bike. Insta: MobileAZN
Adam McNutt yes it was about time. 2 builds at once never gets boring 😃👍
Adam McNutt thank you 😊 will check it out
Do you have a shop vac attached to your sandblasting cabinet I do and it keeps the dust down so you can see what you’re doing
Yep but I now have a vapour blaster. Have you seen my newest videos? Definitely worth watching
i am curious how you get the engine cases looking great from where this one is sitting right now. Brass brush? autosol polish?
I'm assuming you are asking how to polish the head covers? For that I would take them off and use a bench grinder or polishing wheel or even somthing like this amzn.to/2lgVdeB
What year is this cx ?
Just FYI, gasoline dissolves RTV silicone to jelly. Get the right block off plugs.
Terry Nixon you are 100 % right
This was only to determine if it was the issue, I ordered the correct plugs and changed them out at soon as they arrived. 👍
Thank you for the comment brother 😊
Cafe Racer Garage That's great. Difficult to know who knows that--I've seen silicone used instead of float bowl gaskets.😯
Terry Nixon I welcome and help brother. We only stop learning when we think we know everything or die and I’m neither of those lol 😂 thank you again for your support 👍
Do a scrambler!
BM Kristiansen thank you BM 👍
bad boy bubby seat,,, be still
What's funky ska-ish tune in the video?
I crashed my bike into a wall 2 years ago I have rode my friends bikes around the block a few times. I'm about to get back onto my own bike and I want to do a cb 750k your builds are inspiring me. how manuverable are cafe racers? part of the reason I crashed was that my first bike was an 800 lb 1100cc engine.
ooVEXXXoo I hear you brother:)
Glad my videos are helping, any questions just ask.
Sorry to hear about you hitting a wall, I’m glad you are ok and getting back to it.
yes how maneuverable is the cb 750 roughly how heavy is it? also when are you getting back to buiding it
ooVEXXXoo I don’t honestly know as I haven’t ridden it yet.
It started in my garage as a parts bike that wasn’t running but I can answer those questions once I get it on the road :)
Okay ill ask later on my friend.
bro..wheres the finished video? keeps coming back to old ones...
Careful with those ebay bars, they are dangerously light - trust me.
I do know that you mean. I will see how they go but I will also keep what you said in mind for after this Challange is complete, I may mention some things I would change once Its finished :)
What year bike is this
1981
very nice videos but I am so confused with the order and Episode# on your playlist...
Nedim Tokman the play lists are a little random I’m sorry.
If you go to my channel homepage you will see all my videos in order and I released them. Hope that helps mate
Love the work mate, I actually went to videos. I think it got confusing when multiple bikes especially the scrambler got in the way a bit. I am building a cb750 nighthawk myself here in California myself and your videos have been a tremendous help so far and inspirational too. Keep up the good work!
Nedim Tokman thank you mate, any questions just ask :)
Great find re the plug, id really like to see a street fighter build ,every tom dick and harry are doing trackers , and theres no tracks wtf street fighter, modern café
Great comment Grant thank you for sharing, this one is already underway but I could look into a street fighter If I get enough Intrest for building it :)
It seems I spoke too soon.
I fear this is going to go the same route as many other channels too many projects on the go and none getting finished.
Alan Dow never fear my friend. I have to finish them or it will bug the crap out of me until I do 😁 I have a lot of you guys encouraging me so that makes the process even more fun.
Thank you for the comment Alan 😊👍
I’m waiting for an exhaust and my carbys for the CB750 so the CX is a great side project for me :)
Cafe Racer Garage ha ha glad to hear it buddy your videos are really good content the more the merrier 👌🏾
dude as much as i admire your skills and technique in rebuilding this bike, i might say you had a very good talent in cutting the cost of some materials and still could come up with good results. whats not good about this video is that you talk a lot.. i mean watching all 23 episodes and come up with unfinished bike. 20% of it was work. 80% talk talk talk.. yeah it do cut yout cost on spending bucks just to come up with a good looking racer, but it do cost your viewers a lot of battery and time just to see it finished. bloody frickin waste of my time. i dont know whats your purpose in doin 3 episodes just talkin about seat cushions, and if ever i cant finish my comment thats just means my phone was out of bat
