Just wanted to say thank for making these videos, I thoroughly enjoy watching them. I actually had a really bad motorcycle wreck so I've really enjoyed binge watching these while recovering. I'd say a darker metallic green with brown flat brat style seat or what would be really cool bare metal kind of a brushed aluminum look with a clear over it and brown seat and grips! Thanks again for all the cool videos
Im very grateful for your comments and I really hope you make a fast recovery, I get a lot of enjoyment from comments like this and all the time planing my shots, videoing and editing makes it all worthwhile when I get a comment like this one. :) Im happy you enjoy them. the early ones were done with a cheap camera so the sound and quality has come a long way as you have probably noticed. as long as i get comments like this I will keep sharing every week :)
TheYakkis I was on my Ducati Monster 1200s now totaled from the wreck. I need to slow my role on the street, so probably a bmw gs1200 adventure. But I’m going to build either a Yamaha xs650 or a Honda CB750 cafe racer.
Sounds like a plan brother. Sounds like you would really enjoy some track time too. I look forward to watching your cafe racer build on UA-cam . At least post a cheesy walk around when itls done ;)
Dispatched in London on one of these for around 5 years. Couldn't kill it if you tried. Good times. Now I have an MT09 -- light years ahead, but that CX never let down.
Jax that is so cool. The history of bikes in London is where the cafe racer all begun, hopefully soon I will come visit ace cafe just so I can see it for myself and be where it all started. Yes the Cx has had some small issues but it never stopped working even when I blew a main fuse lol The MT09 would be a massive change
I am late to the party, but kudos..I enjoyed the build..1 thing...I run and buy lots of older heavy equipment/old trucks...ALWAYS drain all old fuel FIRST before start something..save yourself the headache.
Oh Man! I should have thought to mention those little o-rings in the air screws! I now remember I too had to coax the old ones out of the carb bodies on my CB900. Tricky little buggers to fish out. Also, you have no idea what the sound of that CX running does to me. I'm flooded with memories of my youth when I hear it. The CX500C was my first streetbike at age 16 and the memories are really good. Thanks for that.
Urban Monk TV I can only imagine the memories you must’ve had his bike, it has a very unique sound as well. Yes I’m so glad I found the problem, it has been bugging me ever since I started this build, People often ask me if I’m going to sell the bikes that I build and my answer is always No, however I have no idea where I’m gonna keep them all lol 😂
That's one way to get a caffeine fix lol not sure I want to try it tho haha. Thank you for your nice comment, you are the only one that commented on the coffee intro so far :) sometimes I put little things in my videos just to see if I get any comments :)
That is very specific brother, Love to see an example if you have one? send me a msg on Cafe RacerGarage FB page If you have one :) thanks for the comment.
Howsit from South Africa! I'm building a scrambler from a CX500 as you are. I want to use the original air box to ensure clean air as this will be used for some riding in the dirt. Looking fwd to seeing your solution on the seat as i'm thinking making the seat easily removable for a little storage space under the seat or for the battery, so please do the seat episode next! Coming along great! One suggestion is to tune it ASAP due to those CV carbs. They work great when working but what may seem like a simple tune issue could lead to needing a new carb or 2. The channel that leads to that idle air screw can build corrosion that could make it all worse even after soaking because it can break loose and completely clog the port. Especially if the bike has set up for a long time, which your looks like it has. This happened to my gl project. I ended up upgrading my carbs and intakes. Also, I actually left out the small metal washer on my adjustment screws at one point! Lol! I still have mine if you want them. The left carb worked fine. Also if you don't have a color tune get one. Great for figuring those issues out...
Thank you for all the tips, I must of missed this comment until now, I reply to every comment however sometimes the UA-cam system is unreliable and doesn't notify us of every comment... You left me a great helpful comment tho :)
@@CafeRacerGarage I am not at the moment, but damn I wish so bad I do. Maybe in few years (after I get a garage or something) I'd like to start with a CX500, that v-twin just sounds absolutely amazing.

Yeah I guess It kind of does in a way lol :) I try and cut out all the crap in my videos and keep only the stuff you want to see. Hope you enjoy them, thank you for the kind comments and support again my friend I look forward the the amazing comments I get
Could you recomend any video editing program? I would prefer free ware if there is any that works well. Ive been following you for a while, great videos. Keep it up!
I sure can brother 👍I use IMovie, it's free and relatively easy to use. you will get a lot more options and tools with some of the bigger programs but that will only confuse you if you are starting out.
Colour choice... on bikepoint thre a ‘73 XL175 in I guess a Jaffa Orange, ok Kwaka 9 colour, with black striping. Maybe then spray the Honda badges matt black like your wheels? Brown seat & brown hand grips?... I like the way you’re heading! Oops! I reckon I’m a year late!🤪🤪🤪🤣
À quite big yellow headlight with a metal grid/protector in front, for the turn signals I would have gone for ones that look like the Harley ones , I think the best tank colour would be a beige/ creamy mat colour or brushed aluminium in a more old school/rustic look. it would also fit great with a dark brown leather flat seat, great video man I love this build, I m thinking abaout making a 125 scrambler myself, keep up the great work, please forgive my English it s not my mother tongue. Cafe Racer Garage ahaha thanks for the compliment 😋 don’t bother translating I understand better than I talk but thanks and by the way, what paint are you using for the rims (brand, Colorado name)? And what’s the name of the feeling good remix in the intro? It’s lit
Try using a rear CX650 wheel and get a bigger tire for that and bigger headlight black glass cover with a gas mask with the single filter to one side ‘seen it once before it looks mad !
Love the channel just a shame I didn’t get onto it sooner considering this is a type of build I would love to try, I’m kind of in the same boat as old mate injured and binge watching. I like the idea of the brown seat with light coloured tank like orange or teal with the old Honda wing decals, other then that you do what you think looks good and you can’t go wrong :)
Thank you mate, its really cool to know that you enjoy my videos and binge-watching them. I do my best to keep them fun to watch, thank you for the ideas and inspiring comment, I always love reading the comments and will always reply :) Have an amazing day
You will like the gearing better with the 18 inch rear. It doesn't gear it up a lot but does make a noticeable difference on a bike that is geared quite low like the CX and GL500's are.
Really love this series. It’s my first intro to your channel. Great job. My only question is, do you have control over how many ads play? It’s quite distracting to have one every 30 minutes or so.
Do the tank like the triumph rocket x its brushed steel than taped of srayed black. After it dry's take the tape of and do a few coats of clear coat i think ik would look very rad😍
very cool idea, I went looking on google but couldn't find an exact image of what you are talking about, if you have the url to a website that has exactly what you are saying Id love to see it :) you are welcome to paste the URL here
Be cool to re-create the exhaust to locate it up high like a HARLEY xr1200 dirt tracker. Good choice of bikes to build. Cool looking engine. The turbo 650cc would of been super cool.
Awesome build...I'm currently starting a 81 cx500 and noticed you went with the 18" rear comstar. Can you let me know what bike model/year that came off of? Having a terribletime finding suitable tires for the 16" but I can find the 18" rim like you did. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a 79 cm 400 Honda and a few if not alot of my bike parts looks identical to your bike minus the engine of course. My question is are there wires run through the bars because I want to change my buckhorn bars to scrambler or dirt bike ones similar to yours and wonder how difficult the switch will be?
Powdercoating is N OT that durable. I have had powdercoated dirtbike frames that chip and scratch about as easily as paint does so I would never waste the money on powdwercoat....
Just like everything else, not all powder coats and not all powder coaters are created equal. A properly applied, high quality powder coat is much more durable to mechanical abrasion than most paint finishes. A cheap, poorly applied, thin powder coat not so much...
Well. My rear tire from the factory was 3.50/18, I don't really know, which size was acceptable for my rim. Just for an experiment I used 4.0/18 and It works just great. In my opinion, in your case, increasing tire for 5 mil. each side doesn't sound dangerous. Like what can go wrong? If it sits correctly on a rim and holds the correct tire pressure, I don't think that something could happen. Especially tubeless tires are quite tough on the sides. Also depends where did you get these safe numbers. If they were from a manual, than I think it's almost 100% safe to use thicker tires, cause numbers from manual are always "too safe" and quite far from numbers when something can happen. But if it was in someone's experience, and he had some real problems with a thicker tire in real life, than its 100% not safe. But again, it's just my thoughts. The best way to understand which headlamp is better is just to install one lamp than the other and compare. Maybe if you want to make an aggressive scrambler you can install two small lamps with grilles, one above other and move them aside from a center with a square metal plate with a motorcycle racing number in a center. And about the speedometer, I've got a picture of one, but unfortunately I can't attach pics here.
Thank you mate. I'm not sure what wheel you have on your bike, However, The CX 500 Maximum Width of the comstars Is 2.15 and 2.50 for the 16". The tires I'm using require tubes but I do understand what you're saying And I appreciate your ideas on the tires and the headline and also the speedometer If you wish to send any photos you can send A personal message on Cafe racer Garage FB page :)
There are 25.4mm per inch, so a 120 is roughly equal to 4.75 inches, with a 130 equal to 5.1 inches. Putting to wide of a tire on a wheel can result in popping the bead while riding. It can appear to mount up and hold pressure when static, but go into a corner to hot and it can be disastrous. However, where that safety limit is I do not know.
ChaoticDetour Very well said, I’m not 100 % sureOn all the specs to do with tires and wheels sizes however my research has shown that 120 mm on 2 .15 rim is Max, thanks for the comment brother 😊
Great Idea and the minimal I will do to this one is a hoop welded to the back of the subframe just to mount the seat to and make it strong :) Thanks for the great comment my friend
So don't discount the narrower tire, the wider tire may look nicer however it does not mean it will handle better. Also I vote for a satin or flat black with an electric metallic blue accents of some sort. Just a thought. Ride safe man!

Hey Dan! First of all thumbs up - really like your channel and the way you explain your way of doing things! One quick question, as I’m in the process of doing a pretty similar project with a smallframe Guzzi from early 80s: what is the specific model of these Heidenau tires you’re using? I really like the style and would like to use them too. Thanks in advance mate and keep up the great work!
tonirockyhorror1 thank you brother that means a lot :) a lot of behind the scenes stuff goes into my videos and I’m happy they are helping you Heidenau K60 are the tyre I am using
Cafe Racer Garage thanks mate, brilliant! Unfortunately K60 doesn’t come in the dimensions I’d need... so maybe I’ll go for the K37 or even Continental TKC80. You even inspired me to custom-make my seat from fiber as you did - let’s see what happens! 😂 one last thing: do you happen to have any experience with headway LiFePo4 cells as a replacement for a regular battery? I want everything to fit into and under the seat and hump... cheers!
how tall shocks can you put in such bike ? can it actually become some what half decent off road motorcycle, nothing super crazy but just so you dont turn back when hit a gravel or bumpy road or some smoother trails.
ahmed z yes this bike will be great off Road but I won’t try taking it over any jumps, I won’t increase the rear shocks much more than stock unless you know what you are doing, a bike can get unsafe if you change the rake angle to much.

Hello, fantastic build. What rear fender did you use? Thanks
I used the original one, have you watched the video I did on it?
Good Job 😃👍 Regards Alex from Germany ✔
Did that bike originally come with dual front disc brakes?
This is a 1982 cx500 custom so yes it did
What's the tank you used?
You got great contents bro! Keep it up :-)
Thanx you my friend, I try and keep it fun to watch but Im always learning new tricks, I hope you are enjoying the new videos im posting
If I were close, I would only look at your business
What brand of tires are those? I couldn’t catch it. I’m building a CX and in the process of vlogging it to UA-cam too!
Try some redex mate just two cap fulls should sort that fuel problem out
Great channel, I subsribed
Can you just change a seat without having to go through cutting and welding? Aren’t there any bolt-on seats on the market?
Try to make a seat that works with the existing frame with zero to little modification of the frame itself!
Great Idea and the minimal I will do to this one is a hoop welded to the back of the subframe just to mount the seat to and make it strong :) Thanks for the great comment my friend
how much did it cost you altogether?
Great question mate, I will be doing a video on this topic hopefully towards the end of the build :) Have a great day
If you're not doing anything with suspension or power, leave the 120s... A shorty guard or something might make it look a little meaner?
Danny Neill great point 👍 I have a plan in my head but it changes as my creative mind takes over lol 😂 thanks for the comment brother
honda nighthawk 650?
So don't discount the narrower tire, the wider tire may look nicer however it does not mean it will handle better. Also I vote for a satin or flat black with an electric metallic blue accents of some sort. Just a thought. Ride safe man!
You have some nice taste :) I like your idea and yes the tyre will stay for now but just looking at different options if any :)
for the bold?
Hello Cafe Racer Garage. Can you tell me how to remove the tire, I also want to change my motorcycle tire. Thank you
Laurence Long You need to flat blade screws like screwdrivers and you need to work around the tire taking one side of the tire off at a time
Hii I want to know How much money did u invest to restore it..??
does a headlight grill fit into ur vision?
Great question, im 50 / 50 on that but I've seen some really cool ones, I could even make a custom one, Need to get a headlight first lol :)
You should make it a flat track bike
Heard the music on this vid and have to ask what song it is at around 4:26? Can you supply that info? Cheers*!
Hi mate, this one is called Stadium Anyhem by - Jack Elphick
I get all my music copyright free from here now. It’s amazing and seems endless bit.ly/2OR9jRq you can even extract just the drums or base or just have the instrumental version, It's worth checking out if your a youtuber :)
Thanks in advance mate and keep up the great work!
tonirockyhorror1 thank you brother that means a lot :) a lot of behind the scenes stuff goes into my videos and I’m happy they are helping you
Heidenau K60 are the tyre I am using
Cafe Racer Garage thanks mate, brilliant! I want everything to fit into and under the seat and hump... cheers!
@@tonirockyhorror1 check out Avon Trailriders
Are these tires the Heidenau K60 Scout?
Yep Sure are :)
Hello I watch this video ...and I have also classic bike ..can I also built like thiss? Give me idea??
can you do something with the bajaj v15 ....i think it deserves something good!
how tall shocks can you put in such bike ?
can it actually become some what half decent off road motorcycle, nothing super crazy but just so you dont turn back when hit a gravel or bumpy road or some smoother trails.
ahmed z yes this bike will be great off Road but I won’t try taking it over any jumps, I won’t increase the rear shocks much more than stock unless you know what you are doing, a bike can get unsafe if you change the rake angle to much.
