Home Free are something else - They have two stellar tenors - Austin Brown, the high tenor here in the middle and Rob Lundquist the lead tenor (beard and glasses). Adam Chance, left side back, is their baritone but he can easily cover bass when their bass is taking the lead. Their beatboxer, who founded the group with his brother when they were still at school is Adam Rupp, otherwise called "freak of nature" or "human drumkit" is unbelievable. Tim Foust the bass is a genuine rare basso profundo (deepest of basses) and believe me you haven't heard anything yet - during concerts he rattles chairs and floors when he hits really low or takes sound-systems out some time and he has an unbelievable 5 octave range up to a tenor. In this group anyone gets to shine, whoever's voice suits the song the best takes the lead which makes them incredibly versatile. But more that anything these guys are down to earth and they can go from serious to completely hilarious from one song to another, they are born comedians (especially Tim Foust).

Hi Sofie, in this line-up; Austin Brown[ red hair blonde] LEAD TENOR; Rob Lundquist [over-alls/glasses] HARMONIC TENOR; Tim Foust [long hair, cut short a year ago] 5-octave range BASS; Adam Rupp [hat/black suspenders] BEAT BOXER/VOCAL PERCUSSIONIST; Adam Chance aka Chance [black vest/hat] BASS BARITONE, mouth harp. Original member/co-founder Chris Rupp, Adam's brother left 2016, replaced by Chance. You might see him in older music videos. The Leads and/or Solos switches around depending on song. HOME FREE won Season 4 of The Sing-Off on NBC. [Pentatonix won Season 3]. Thanks and check out their music videos as well as all their Sing-Off performances.
Home Free can sing anything and make it sound good...they do sing pretty much all genres of music except classical and they always put their spin on the song. Talent.
My favorite group ever! Yes!!! Home Free are phenomenally talented! May I suggest your reaction to "END OF THE ROAD" " WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN" " TRY EVERYTHING" " ONE MAN BAND" Thank you so much! Anxious to see more Home Free!
The "strange sound" is an imitation of an old instrument once known as a Jew's Harp. The name is a corruption of the French Jeu Tromp (toy trumpet). The mouth organ is just a couple of pieces of metal that makes an odd twang when pluck. It is partly inserted in the mouth and the spring part is plucked.
Tim Foust (the bass singer here) just released a mashup "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow / Stay" you should check out. It's basically him showing off his range with music he loves. "Man of Constant Sorrow" is several years old and Tim has since cut his hair and let the gray show.
The first sound is an instrument called a jaw harp. It’s being done by Adam Chance(the baritone/bass). The HOME FREE RABBIT HOLE is an awesome fun trip😘‼️❤️. There are over 160 videos here on UA-cam…..& they are ALL AMAZING ❤️‼️💥
This is one of my favorite songs by Home Free. Thank you for your reaction....It was nice to see that you caught Tim dropping an octave after his solo...not many reactors catch that one.
This is one of the first songs I heard from Home Free. Adam's beatboxing is phenomenal and it took me a while to realize that there was no harmonica. And the bass is fantastic. I love this masterpiece from Home Free. Great reaction!
The best at every thing they do and can bring out a range of emotions. Great collabs with others and love their fans and use them in some videos. If you want to go down this rabbit hole ya need to go all the way.
hello ma'am !!! Welcome to the world of Home Free. Yes they are acapella and yes they do lean country but are SO MUCH MORE. They do ma lot of covers but they also have many original songs of their own, some even written by the band members. A few to think about reacting to... Brothers in Arms, Dive Bar Saints, Workin' for a livin', and How Great Thou Art. I just subbed for more Home Free reactions
Adam Rupp is the “Harmonica” player… I think he’s a robot. There are a couple of videos of him playing the drums (without a drum kit) amazing. Tim Foust is the base singer, he’s at least part Dragon. There are a couple of clips in live performances where he blows the subwoofer in the speaker. I call it the reverse of the Opera Singer shattering the wine glass, He does a duet with Peter Hollens singing “Misty Mountain” the song from the Hobbit Movies well worth your time. The rest of the group are just as ridiculously talented. “How Great Thou Art” will bring tears to your eyes even if you’ve never set foot in a church. My personal favorite (aside of Man of Constant Sorrow) is “Seven Bridges Road”. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole.
Oh, there is SO MUCH more Home Free for you to discover! Check out one of their newer releases, a cover of Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms," (that one does not have vocal percussion) or perhaps you would like to see their more fun side in "All About That Bass." Thanks for this great reaction, and welcome to the best musical rabbit hole you'll find!
Their version of Ring of fire, Peter Hollens and Tim Foust in Misty Mountains, Home Free - The sing off - season 4 all performances (for fun part) and so on and so on.. 👍
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. To really get to know how talented they are and what they can do. Watch and react to their performances on the 2013 Sing Off which, they won. Tim Foust is the bass singer and has a 5 octave range.
It's always fun to watch a new reactor meet Home Free. They have been a band for twenty years. Try their versions of "Helplessly Hoping", "In the blood", "How great thou art", or "When a man loves a woman". All are excellent and all are a lot of fun.
You've only entered the rabbit hole with them! Give a listen to Folsum Prison Blues, In the Blood and Ring of Fire. They are amazing! BTW, to truly enjoy them, you need headphones.
Or a REALLY nice sound system. I happen to have that so I can move around when listening, but headphones are the cheaper option and give you a similar experience. I agree with you, headphones are the way to go.
The sound you hear in the beginning is Adam Chance imitating a jaw harp. Everything else is pure a capella including the "drums" Adam Rupp is a walking talking drumkit! Tim Foust is the bass singer with a 5 octave range, A1 to A5! Check him out in his low register in Brothers in arms and his high register in Mayday!
i've loved these guys for over a decade and see them every time they're within 300 miles of me. welcome to the home fry rabbit hole. adam rupp, the beatboxer, is the best in the world and tim foust, the bass, has the lowest note of popular acapella groups. he vibrates the entire theater when he goes real low. if you want to see his range check out his new single release Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/ Stay. he goes incredibly high. the sound is a jaw harp
Welcome to the Home Free journey! They have many, many great performances. Each one will delight and amaze you. Hope you react to them again real soon.
"He just sang that same part an octave lower!" Good catch! Tim Foust, the bass, has a five octave range (!). He's just released an album of doo-wop classics inwhich he covers all the parts (Thank you multi-tracking). If you want to hear his upper registers, catch his cover, along with Tenor Austin Brown, of "My Maria".
When I first saw the vid (some Home Fries ago and my first Home Free video), I thought it was Chance who went down low but, though he can bass some, he cain't bass that low!
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole...what an awesome journey awaits you! Austin (the tenor in the middle front) was singing show tunes and trying to get rid of his Georgia accent when Home Free asked him to join HF and bring his accent along. If you want to hear one of his classical pieces, check out the concert clip titled BHH and DAHM ... BHH, Bring Him Home from Les Miserables is really a treat, he doesn't often do it. Also I believe Tim Foust (bass) is just shy (or has achieved possibly) six octaves. You really can't go wrong with any of their music, but some of my faves are Go Rest High On That Mountain, End of the Road (a Boyz2Men cover) and Butts Medley for fun. Looking forward to seeing your journey. I just subbed.
Not sure if this was what you were asking, but: that twanging sound was an emulation of a Mouth Harp (for which Wikipedia has an article). If that wasn’t what you were asking and/or was something you already knew, apologies for cluttering your feed. :) Guessing you already know this, but just in case: they also do a cover of Seven Bridges Road which you may enjoy.
By maintaining eye contact... They destroy the 4th wall. They aren't singing to the camera, they are singing DIRECTLY to each member of their AUDIANCE. They take command and keep it.
"His voice sounds like he swallowed a pipe organ" XD THAT IS SO TRUE!!!!! I'm subscribed for Buffy, but I would absolutely resubscribe for this alone. Check out their cover of Ring of Fire ft. Avi Kaplan. It's practically a bass masterclass, on top of just being an awesome song.
This is the same song that got me hooked on Home Free a couple of years ago. They have a deep catalogue of videos covering most genres, so you have a lot to choose from. Tim Foust is the bass singer, and he is a true basso profundo capable of going much, much lower.
We Southerners push our "Rs" and have that twang in our voice. That sound is an Instrument called a didg·er·i·doo an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument in the form of a long wooden tube, traditionally made from a hollow branch, which is blown to produce a deep, resonant sound, varied by rhythmic accents of timbre and volume.
Yes they are acapella to the bone and they're in a league of their own!!! I invite you to come and join the Home Free Fan Club and when you do, you'll be known as a "HOME FRY!!!" Their catalogue is super deep too, so hold on for the ride of your life because although they have that country flavor, they sing all types of genres...and to give you a taste of that, I encourage you to react to the Home Free cover of The O'Jays song "Love Train" and their cover of Boyz II Men "End Of The Road." These guys never miss and they will never disappoint you!!! Oh by the way, that "thump" you just heard was my "Mic-Drop!!!"
I absolutely love seeing people hearing Home Free for the first time. Your reaction was great! Home Free does a lot of country covers, but they can do anything. Listen to their cover of Boyz II Men "End of the Road" and the old Rick Atchley song "Never Gonna Give You Up" (but beware--they "cut up" on "Never Gonna Give You Up" and have a lot of fun with it--and as someone who was young when the original came out, this is one that I just laughed at their poking fun at the 80's; the vocals are no less impressive, but they just have so much fun with it). I also suggest "When a Man Loves a Woman". It is absolutely fantastic. None of these is country, so you'll get an idea of Home Free's range in terms of what they can do with different genres. The bass is Tim Foust. He has a five octave range. To hear him at his best, try his collaboration with Peter Hollens in "Misty Mountain" (from the movie "The Hobbit").
Home Free is a country Acapella group. They are the first such group. This is one of two songs that they used a repeater device. The sound at the beginning and throughout the song is coming from baritone Adam Chance affectionately referred to as Chance by Home Fries. The rest of the sound effects come from the last founding member of the group Adam Rupp. The glasses and beard is Rob Lundquist. The other tenor is Austin Brown. Last but most certainly not least is Tim Foust the group's super bass.
Lately I’ve been watching as many reactions to this song as I can find. I keep coming back to this video because this lady‘s reaction and appreciation just seems so genuine. Every reviewer is impressed, but there’s a certain joy in this ladies reaction that I just find endearing. Thank you Madame for this review.
Mr pipe organ (Tim Foust) has a 5 octave range. You should hear his just released "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow". He sings all the parts himself. Home Free is amazing and they have many great songs for you to check out.
And the bass (Tim) still has another octave to use. Now, go try "Helplessly Hoping", "In the Blood", and "Brothers in Arms" to get a true picture of their harmonization.
Great attention to detail in this review. This group is phenomenal, as you will discover. Adam Rupp, the beat boxer and co-founder of the group, has won two champion beat boxing competitions and can make sounds you would believe are impossible to make via voice. Big suggestion: wear a good set of headphones when listening to acapella groups or you will miss some of the subtle sounds made in the performances. If you want to hear awesome harmony, check out their cover of "Helplessly Hoping."
I have so much respect for your review. Home Free is a great group, and I've watched reviews from a hundred or so people. You are by far, the best. I will sub, but I will only watch you reviewing songs that I enjoy ... mostly easy rock from the 70's. Thank you..... and you are very pretty.
The sound you found so interesting at the start and end of the song was done by Adam Chance (the one that looks like Will Wheaton if you know who that is). The sound is mimicking an instrument called a jaw harp. (plus some sounds I don't think a jaw harp can make) The beat boxer, Adam Rupp (yes, there are two Adams in the group, Adam Chance goes by his last name to avoid confusion) is a two time world champion in beatboxing competitions. You aren't the first person by far to say he's a human drum kit.
I just discovered your channel via your Home Free reaction! The group was formed in 2000 by the beatboxer and his older brother, who had the idea to start the group. They’ve had numerous member changes through the years, though. The founder left the group in 2016 to pursue a solo career. This lineup has been together since then and have really evolved! I hope you continue to react to their videos! I like your style and you truly appreciate their talent.
I don't know whether you were using ear buds, but you really need some kind of ear phone/head phone to truly appreciate some of the bass things that Tim does. I'm glad that you picked up on going an octave down on the echo after his solo.
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. They have many songs out there. When a Man Loves a Woman, American Pie, End of the Road. Just a few suggestions to start you off .
Thank you for this reaction about the "Home Free" band. It is all no surprise to me, since I've grown up with "Country Swing" in DakotaLand all my life. These guys are friends in music, reflecting a "Minni-so-tah-whatcha-you-gonna-do-about-it" attitude. BTDT.
This performance is a nice introduction, but there is so much more to hear. While they lean country, they cover many genres. Their harmonies are amazing. I would suggest their cover of “In The Blood” followed by “ Brothers In Arms” or just go to their UA-cam channel and pick a song.
The sound you hear right off the bat (the bullfrog sound) and in the background for the song is the baritone guy Adam Chase (guy back left) using an almost Mongolian throat singing technique. Oh and Tim, the Bass guy...he can actually cover 5 octaves...no joke! Watch their cover of Mayday....yyou will be shocked.
Enjoyed it, ma'am. This here's a great road to travel down with Home Free. For another goodun, try another A Cappella group called Voiceplay. They have an equally impressive bass man by the name of Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci who, as a bass singer myself, I personally like better than Home Free's man, Tim Foust. Geoff also has some covers he does on his own channel. Please do yourself and us humble listeners a favor by reactin to em. Thank ye and I hope you and your's have a goodun ✝️🇺🇸🤠
Wow Sofie, you finally got here. Well your reaction was spot on just the same & I don't remember anyone else mentioning Tim's final line being an octave lower. Fantastic voices all of them,.
Costant sorrow was from the movie O brother where art thou, I think that particular song is by, The soggy bottams boys, and the style of music is blue grass
Introduction to HF: Group was formed in 2000 by baritone Chris and beatboxer Adam Rupp. Tenor Rob Lundquist (dark beard) introduced himself in 2008, about when the group went full-time. Bass Tim Foust became a full-time member in 2012, Later that year, the group met tenor Austin Brown aboard a cruise ship. They clicked, and Brown came aboard shortly thereafter. They won the "Sing Off" reality show in 2013. Chris Rupp left the group in 2015, and helped choose Adam "Chance" as his replacement. All four singers can sing tenor, all four can sing bass, and all four do sing lead vocals.
That sound at the beginning and end of the song is a very good imitation of an instrument called a mouth harp. Used mostly in the South and Appalachia in down home Bluegrass. It resembles a round belt buckle with a small rod that reaches the center of the circle that you manipulate with your tongue.
Welcome to my favorite acapella group!! They started right here in my state of Minnesota, and they are absolutely incredible. Everything they do is fantastic, but I would like to recommend three songs: "How Great Thou Art" (sheer vocal perfection), "Folsom Prison Blues" (Tim, the bass, goes much lower than he does here), and my favorite Home Free song, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Hi Sofie, in this line-up; Austin Brown[ red hair blonde] LEAD TENOR; Rob Lundquist [over-alls/glasses] HARMONIC TENOR; Tim Foust [long hair, cut short a year ago] 5-octave range BASS; Adam Rupp [hat/black suspenders] BEAT BOXER/VOCAL PERCUSSIONIST; Adam Chance aka Chance [black vest/hat] BASS BARITONE, mouth harp.
May I suggest your reaction to
"END OF THE ROAD"
" WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN"
" TRY EVERYTHING"
" ONE MAN BAND"
Thank you so much! Anxious to see more Home Free!
Come on man you forget the best cover "Mayday"
The "strange sound" is an imitation of an old instrument once known as a Jew's Harp. The name is a corruption of the French Jeu Tromp (toy trumpet). The mouth organ is just a couple of pieces of metal that makes an odd twang when pluck. It is partly inserted in the mouth and the spring part is plucked.
A human equalizer!! Tim Foust- "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay"
Basso Profundo with a 5 octave range, very unique talent, then again all 5 of these guys are way above the norm in terms of talent. Great group.
With ear buds you will hear much more.
Oh yea....that bass....I was a fan girl since the first time I heard Tim sing.
Tim Foust (the bass singer here) just released a mashup "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow / Stay" you should check out. It's basically him showing off his range with music he loves. "Man of Constant Sorrow" is several years old and Tim has since cut his hair and let the gray show.
Loved your face at Tim's solo...welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole.
Adam's beatboxing
is phenomenal and it took me a while to realize that there was no
harmonica. And the bass is fantastic. I love this masterpiece from Home
Free. Great reaction!
Welcome to the deep rabbit hole that is Homefree. They are phenomenal.
The best at every thing they do and can bring out a range of emotions. Great collabs with others and love their fans and use them in some videos. If you want to go down this rabbit hole ya need to go all the way.
Home Free How Great Thou Art
hello ma'am !!!
Check out one of their newer releases, a cover of Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms," (that one does not have vocal percussion) or perhaps you would like to see their more fun side in "All About That Bass." Thanks for this great reaction, and welcome to the best musical rabbit hole you'll find!
can't forget butts remix
Their version of Ring of fire, Peter Hollens and Tim Foust in Misty Mountains, Home Free - The sing off - season 4 all performances (for fun part) and so on and so on.. 👍
All About That Bass also has a Behind the Scenes Blooper Reel that is hilarious.
OH boy! Can't wait to accompany you down THIS rabbit hole!
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. To really get to know how talented they are and what they can do. Watch and react to their performances on the 2013 Sing Off which, they won. Tim Foust is the bass singer and has a 5 octave range.
Watching new reactions to this song never gets old. Thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one...
Love seeing new people react to Home Free. They are my favorite group by far. Just subbed for more Home Free
It's always fun to watch a new reactor meet Home Free. They have been a band for twenty years. Try their versions of "Helplessly Hoping", "In the blood", "How great thou art", or "When a man loves a woman". All are excellent and all are a lot of fun.
This is one of my favorite musical performances!!! It is absolutely amazing to listen to!!!!!!
You've only entered the rabbit hole with them! Give a listen to Folsum Prison Blues, In the Blood and Ring of Fire. They are amazing! BTW, to truly enjoy them, you need headphones.
Yes, headphones are needed for a cappella or a lot of the sounds are missed!
@@dagmar.6954 Nah, you just need to connect to a decent sound system. (I will acknowledge that headphones are cheaper)
Or a REALLY nice sound system. I happen to have that so I can move around when listening, but headphones are the cheaper option and give you a similar experience. I agree with you, headphones are the way to go.
You gotta do mayday also
Naw, this isn't a rabbit hole. Its a deep fryer.
Guessing you already know this, but just in case: they also do a cover of Seven Bridges Road which you may enjoy.
A ring of fire Home Free
Congratulations!!! You are one of the few reactors I've heard noticing Tim went lower after his solo! Great reaction!
I just about fell out of my chair laughing when she said that. So true :)
That sound is an Instrument called a
didg·er·i·doo
an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument in the form of a long wooden tube, traditionally made from a hollow branch, which is blown to produce a deep, resonant sound, varied by rhythmic accents of timbre and volume.
"Base sir? I'm going to be with you in a second." Priceless! The r in loverRRrr is our southern draw. You, mam, made me smile. Thank you so much.
If you like the bass Home Frees cover of folsom prison blues you'll get all the vocals from all the guys and Tim's bass drop to a G1. Great reaction
I love rewatching your video. You are the only reviewer I've seen who picked up on the octave lower play Tim did of his bass solo part.
Polyphonic undertone singing! Also known as throat singing, Inuit and Mongolian singers specialise in this form!
The Hu are a great example of this. Yuve yuve yu.
Welcome to the wonderful world of HOME FREE. You just started down the rabbit hole, and there is so much more to explore.
And the bass (Tim) still has another octave to use. Now, go try "Helplessly Hoping", "In the Blood", and "Brothers in Arms" to get a true picture of their harmonization.
You just fell down a deep rabbit hole, enjoy your journey, they have so much to offer. Good positive reaction! God Bless!
I love reactions to this song. Do more home free. Buffy would want you to. 😉
OH MY GOD . SOFIE MY LOVE 😍❤️ . YOU ARE NOW PART OF US " HOME FRIES" .. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THESE SO LONG . MORE OF HOME FREE PLEASE . 😍🥰
If possible you should definitely check out their rendition of the End of the Road from boys to men….😊
The portrait on the wall behind you is so beautiful ...something about it just stands out..
"Oh Hello sir!" Who else was waiting for this moment?
P.S. If you think that is low, wait till the end of Misty Mountain, lol...
Welcome to the rabbit hole! More Home Free please... Ring of fire will get ya for sure! Many Many more that'll blow your mind!
Good o Kentucky born and raised here couldn't think of any better place it's so beautiful.
Always a pleasure to see another Home Fry being born...LOL. Subbed pending more Home Free reactions!
Everything they do is fantastic, but I would like to recommend three songs: "How Great Thou Art" (sheer vocal perfection), "Folsom Prison Blues" (Tim, the bass, goes much lower than he does here), and my favorite Home Free song, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Great reaction Sofie! Enjoy going down the rabbit hole! 😁
Wait wait holeyup this group is from Minnesota M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A I like these reactors thought they were from the South the deep alligator-infested-swamps of the deep South
I first fell in love with this on o brother where art thou. These guys are just fantastic.
Thanks for catching the octave drop, I loved watching the voicegasm from Tim, hearing the drop showed us you are a true pro.
Forget the reaction . You are a stunner , God bless your mother !!
This is not a musical genre I would usually listen to, but this band is just so cool I make an exception. Love Tim's beautiful resonant bass. Nice reaction!
Yeah, I felt that octave lower you're talking about, first time now, and I've seen this video lots of times. Incredible. And I really think of all their songs this one really suits them perfectly. I loved it when I first saw the movie, it was pretty popular back then, but these guys killed it altogether.
That opening sound that you asked about reminds me of what I know as a juice harp. a small metal instrument. but that was 50 years ago.
Loved your reaction; these guys, this group is the best - do more of their joy please
