      Very untrue statement sir, I am a fairly experienced guitar player and I trust my Line 6 PODHD all day, everyday. If you are commited enough you can make Line 6 Equipment sound very good indeed!

    And always remember guitarists. Every product is specifically built to meet your exact needs, and if it doesn't, you get to freak out, call it shit, and swear off the brand forever.
    It's LITERALLY impossible that a company would ever produce something that's marketed for anyone except you.

      "Tonewood deniers are idiots" HAHA get a basic electronics education FFS - next you'll be saying you believe in god! How the hell does the sound from wood, effect the electrical signal created by strings and pickups? idiot. Next time you play guitar try shouting at your pickups and see what difference it makes!

    I'm using the new Line 6 V240 with the FBV 3 footboard for my electric violin using the built in wireless system, so cool. I have created 12 patches for the violin performing: rock, country, Cajun, and other varieties of music. Great sound and can perform right along side of the guitar play with his Powerful Marshall stack, no problem matching up the volume levels, and getting a great sound for my electric violin from my V240.

    First amp was a Spider III 30. Didn't hate it at all. Learned to play guitar on it and all the different tones (even though they're nothing great) inspired me to play different things and really enjoy learning guitar.
    Say what you will about Spiders, but I owe everything to it when I really think about it.

    I'm glad that Line 6 have finally updated the Spider range - Spider IV was pretty cool in 2010 & it did stuff that other amps didn't do, but in the last 2-3 years it really has only sold well when the price of it dropped below anything else on the market. The feature set on the new Spider V is cool - I like the wireless thing & the iPad App is really easy to use & offers a lot of stuff to play with. I don't think the preset sounds show off the amp terribly well - we'll be making our own ones with Paul (as they sound much better!), and maybe Line 6 will update the presets in the future. There are several excellent amps out there in this price range now & I don't think any one is the stand out model - its just up to you to pick the one that matches what you like the best.

      WRONG...lol. Just not the solid state Spiders. Line 6 has made a bunch of sweet gear...Vetta, DT, Spider Valve power section, DL4, HD500, Helix..but yeah, cheapo Spiders suck

    • @rickfeith6372
      @rickfeith6372 8 років тому +1

      Yup, you know it all. As with ALL gear, the user makes all the difference. The REAL secret to jaw dropping modeling is tube power section with real guitar cabs...or a Fractal dialed correctly. I got the Mesa tones on lockdown. Dream Theater, Metallica...spot on. HD500 is an epic piece of gear...if you know how to use it. 26 years playing, 4 tube heads, three 412s

    What I noticed with my Spider IV 15 was that eventhough the built in sounds were rubbish, the clean channel was ultimately clean. (like cleaner than humanly possible with a valve amp) Because of this, it was a really cheap pre-amp to plug into your audio interface and really tightened up the sound of the mix.

    Line 6 Spider, Metal Zone and Squier Stagemaster - the ultimate newbie set.
    Now, seriously, these amps are not that bad. I mean, people who just came into the guitar world and can't afford a tube Diesel with a full pedalboard can really put one of these to good use. Bashing amps just because they're solid state is fucking stupid. Funny thing is that people who do this are mostly experienced guitarists.
    Sincerly,
    a tube amp user.

    • @jorismak
      @jorismak 8 років тому

      hey! no bad things about my now 17 year old Squier Stagemaster :P. It received a Seymour Duncan in the bridge,
      but the Floyd keeps the guitar extremely stable in tune and it plays fine and I downtuned quite a bit.
      The original 'made in germany' Floyd Rose that was on my '80s strat broke of around the year 2000 (so close to 20 years in it's life), but the licensed Chinese 'licensed by Floyd Rose' thing that's on my Stage Master still goes strong so far :).
      I''ve got the first stagemaster series though (with a pickguard so it's looks more stratty but the neck is real thin :P). The newer Stagemasters looked like what all the new-metal bands were using at the day :).

    • @heavymetalowykrzychu3537
      @heavymetalowykrzychu3537 8 років тому

      +Joris Mak I meant no disrespect to the Stagemaster users, of course. The very first models are superior to the last series, though. No idea how the Floyd was on these. It's curious, how Squier went from really good guitars to stuff like Affinity serie. Wish you good day, sir.

      Heavymetalowy Krzychu dude you're exactly right. A spider iv is my first amp and I've used it almost everyday for 3 years and it hasn't let me down. I hope to upgrade to a Marshall jvm or a fender bass breaker or blues junior.

    I'd say it's not an amp for the pros, but it is definitely a cool series (30w for example) for the guys out there just trying to have fun at home, using backing tracks, for fun... if you wish to go gigging, I would suggest something else, like the Boss Katana 50 or 100w.

    I'm hoping this improves Line 6 status among guitarists. I'm still baffled they used the Spider name. I bought my Firehawk 1500 and FBV 3 about 5 months ago and it has not let me down one bit. I'll still take that over this, but I hope people give this one a chance, because the revamped tech is really impressive compared to past models.

      tvoy batya spider amps lack those features, but the Firehawk, Amplifire, and the Helix etc. have every parametric feature you could possibly need. Especially if you're using the iOS app to edit your patches, like I do with the Firehawk. I started on a pod XT live, then used that and pod farm, then I had an hd500x. Anything you have is going to require some time of EQ at some point in the effects loop. With Line 6 it's just all included in one unit. I used a lot of different Amos in the past. From Orange to a 6505, even had an ENGL about 3 years ago. Had to put an EQ pedal in my chain every time. I do not put any faith in the Spider line, although I do hope they've listened to people and fixed the problems that have plagued it in the past. The higher end stuff they do is a totally different thing. It's not an AxeFx or a Kemper, but it's pretty easy to dial in great tones. And I prefer Line 6's interface over just about everything I've ever tried. Especially the new iOS integrated stuff.

    Nothing wrong with these amps for their intended market. I enjoyed my Spider II for what it was, but got rid of it because I wanted more control over my effects and didn't like the modeling aspect. But it was okay for practice, and even used it in a band setting for awhile. It's a great amp for people on a tight budget that can't afford pedals and an amp/guitar.

    • @TheProgGuy
      @TheProgGuy 8 років тому

      Their effects are renown. Their overdrive and distortion (aka the stuff that actually matters on an amplifier) has always sucked, that's why they're basically useless.
      They make a valve version of the spider series and it's much better.
      Although, these effects and tones are by no means boutique.

      I concur. I had a IV and it was just fine for what I wanted to use it for. It's a fine practice amp. As far as overpaying, lol, they start at 99 bucks and go up. You are hard pressed to find something as good in that price range. Yeah, there are some new amps out that I want to check out but there is no issue with the IV. I get dissed for my Cube40 as well. Until I start playing and sound better than the guy using an amp that cost 3 times as much. Those who criticize it either listened to bad players or just can't dial in a proper tone themselves. Never been an issue for me.

    The clean channel stuff is alright but how well would it work for Metal and lower tunings? Because I have a feeling that the distortion is gonna sound too digital and fizzy on a high gain channel, in my opinion. Will have to try one out in a shop and see for myself :)

    edit, so i've sat here over half the work day playing the first 1:14 of thsi video over and over again while I work, it is just captivating, almost makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, lol.
    Sad to say, but I've got a really old spyder amp which sits in the garage collecting dust becuase it is way too for the house or the neighbors( who knew 50 watts would be too much?)
    Anyway, I'm sure this new amp is way better than my old one, excellent playing, just wanted to share just how good I thought the playing is :)

    The FRFR speaker design, high wattage output, and simple interface are really great features... I think Line 6 might be onto something here. Sure, it probably won't sound "real" in my living room, but stick a mic in front of it on stage and I think this might actually sound really great PA'd.

  • @roncasella1402

    They sound great....when you can find one that works.I have had to return 3 of the 30 watt MkV amps within the first week of owning one.The fourth one worked for about a month before experiencing dropouts and effects coming on unexpectedly .I bought a used Line 6 15 watt model that was dropped,and cracked a joint on the cabinet.Quite a jolt,but It still works perfectly.I think it is mainly the 30 watt model that is just a bad amp.We rehearse in a studio that has two of the bigger models,and they work fine.I see they are now bringing out a newer version,but I think I'll try the Peavey Vyper 40 watter.

    Anderton's should do a $30 Pawn Shop Challenge. Give Paul and Danish Pete $30, to buy an amp. They'll come out with something worse than the POS i started with when i was 12, and make it sound 10x better than anything i could play/afford 35 years later.

    I'm pretty pumped to demo this amp. I've understood some of the gripes about Line 6 but that narrative is usually "they're shit, buy a Marshall or Mesa instead!" - problem there is of course if you could afford a Marshall or Mesa that's exactly what you'd buy. This product line is PERFECT for all types of guitarists, and it's becoming so good that there may be an argument that they'll one day be the superior amp. Definitely cannot beat how much you get for little $ in comparison.

    This takes me back to my college days when a Spider 2 112 was my second guitar amp which I used for a really long time until I eventually gave it away to a friend. My only problem with this is that I'm obsessed with tube tones now. Once I got my Spider Valve I was completely sold on using actual tubes along with digital modeling as a kind of best of both worlds so until I can afford something like that new thing Chappers demo'd and couldn't tell which one was a tube amp and which one wasn't (I believe it was called Kemper) I guess i'll stick with what I have.

    Obviously isn't something pro's will be buying to use on their next record, but it's not made for that . It's decent sounds at a price for the beginner/intermediate player who doesn't have loads to spend on pedals and such. A tool like this would've helped make a much easier transition into pedal world, knowing what each sound is and does. Only criticism... Where is Insane mode?

    Comments section people complaining about digital distortion then recommending putting a pedal in front of it. Uh... solid state pedal is preferred for that real tube feel? LOL Look at the kemper, tubes are great but the tech is catching up hard.

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 8 років тому

      Within the context of solid-state preamps, analog distortion sounds better than digital distortion: even TC Electronic's distortion pedals are analog.

    • @IanWrigleyNZ
      @IanWrigleyNZ 8 років тому

      Minimal at best these days.

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 8 років тому

      Ian Wrigley What are you talking about? Getting back to the topic…
      The major difference between analog and digital distortion, even more critical than sound quality, is interactivity: an analog circuit reacts to one's playing in a manner more suitable to creative expression (tubes are vastly superior to solid-state in this regard, mind you).
