Mitch & Don. My favorite "demo" guys. You bring such expertise & knowledge to the table. Wow. If you do a video, I watch it because I always want to know your opinion. Thanks for your time.
Total newbie here and all I can say is WHAT? 90% of all of this went right over my head. I have so much to learn. Coming from playing an acoustic for years and diving head first into the meat and potato's of all the electric jargon is freakin' craaaaaazy!
Very nice thorough review, thanks Sweetwater! I have the Spider IV, it certainly hasnt aged well, its hard to find a great sounding tone on it really. This looks far superior
I played on many Line 6 amps including the IV ..this one in the video is top notch and I can't say anything bad except for price...just because it includes a drum track option and loop it doesn't make it worth the almost $500 price..with that said I no longer use Line 6 because i found a Blackstar TVP ID260 2x12 amp for $399 ..its cheaper in price yet it has so much more quality and sound for the money...plus the ID260 2x12 has USB inputs as well and has amazing recording sound..once again I'm not putting down the Line 6 in this video..it actually has some sweet metal tone once dialed in but for the money I would go for a Blackstar TVP ID260 2x12. . I do not work for Blackstar nor do I know anyone that does..in fact I have guitar buddies that don't own a Blackstar but after hearing my tvp 260 and the price they are interested..I also edited this post because I forgot to mention a key factor between the amps..the Line 6 would get very hot when playing at mid volume and above. .and I ain't kidding. .it got hot!..the Blackstar TVP ID260 2x12 does not get hot at all..once again I'm not a Line 6 hater..I'm a long time user of their amps and have played thru many models as well as still owning a Line 6 75 jam(its great for writing original songs!) but times change along with technology and the TVP option in the ID series really boosted Blackstar amps up a few levels...I still love Line 6 and i also love Peavey vypyr amps...in fact I think the Peavey vypyr amps have a 6505 model amp tone that is UNMATCHED for sound and the best your going to get to that actual 6505 tube sound..I post these comments because I love and respect my fellow guitarists and only want them to experience the best while saving money...to many beginner guitar players have stopped doing something that "could have been"..because of an amp that thru them off that path...
I bought one used for $249 at GC in Michigan love it .................its great you can dial in the mojo magic...blows away the Marshall code and the Katina boss easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am shocked how good it is ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh buy one its great Ive playing 40 yrs its almost tube sounding I have a 2 12 tube combo I play in unison love it
Good demo. I just bought one of these based on what I saw here. It sounds cool and I think I can tweakit. Sweetwater needs to change the descriptions because there is NO WIN or MAC editors support for the Spider V's.. It's all iOS or Android. If I'd have known that, I would not have bought it. Now you may be having a return unless you know Line 6 is going to make a PC app for this product. I'm not the only one by far. In the past couple days I have read at several forums that people aren't happy to find they have to buy a tablet to use an editor. Sweetwater is a great co. They should address this with Line 6. If the only app that will be running on this is Android and iOS, then Sweetwater team needs to change their descriptions. All it says is "USB connectivity for Mac/Win PC, iOS and Android" and to me that is extremely misleading consumers. If the editor does not have Mac or Win support, please state in the video and the product link descriptions.
great demo i have spider iii 75 w great amps..i only use a celan amp becasuse i use a multifx ...but i nocticed that this amp has also cabinets..that feature can be turn off ?
i think the spider v amps still use the Pod x3 engines & amps...... being able to edit with your touch-phone seems a great option..... editing on the PC takes time, editing on front of the amp will require lotsa passion & patience + knob life may get decreased.
Hi Cristhian Alvarado! If you're still having trouble, give us a call at (800) 222-4700 or email us at sales@sweetwater.com. Our tech support will be able to help!
Sounding the same depending on volume may save this amp because damn, my spider iv is definitely alot sharper up loud, so i made a low and loud setting for everything.
They don't sound as dark as the Mustang. Gain is a little tighter as well. Maybe get one as a backup...something to have around when you need a change of pace. I'm surprised, I usually cringe when I hear Line 6 amp models. Not so here. What I'm wondering, though...are those pickups active? That could explain the brighter sound.
Hi sir, Need your advice , I was planning to buy zoom G5n multi effects pedal, but I think this line 6 SPIDER v60 will give the same ? Witch one you suggest? My requirement is a multi effects pedal
I'm brand new to guitar. Total beginner. I like what the amp has to offer. I really want to buy this amp but all the negative press on this series amp and Line 6 all over you tube makes me a bit apprehensive to spend the money. I have spent hours listening to all the demos and reading all the comments and can't figure out how a 20 year old company could still be in business if their products were that bad. Alternatively, how is a beginner supposed to learn about different effects and tones in a home learning environment if not for these type of amps?
There's a lot of traditionalist in the music business , When I first started playing it was Big amps and tubes, technology has made things more compact with great sound, I've been playing for almost 30 years and would buy it, not to mention PA systems are so good now, big amps are mostly for looks now.
How did it go for you since you wrote this entry over a year ago? Did you pick up an amp you like, and did you learn to play a bit since? All that negative crap from people, yes, that is really typical that there are people out to trash whatever is coming into the spotlight! Your remark was rather intelligent I think, about that it can't be that bad if they are so big and in the game for a long time. See you around my friend.
@@kevinlynch5925 I agree with your comment, Lots of people dont think that a modeling amp, is really an amp, its like your cheating, I am days away from puling the trigger and buying this amp, I am just watching lot of videos and reviews on the amp, and I am very impressed, to be able to have all these sounds at your finger tips and the ability to get more sounds from the cloud is awesome.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to assign pitch shifting fx to the expression pedal if you are using the fbv express mk2? Wondering if it could basically act like a digitech whammy
Hi, Alan. According to the manual for the amp, the expression pedal on any of their foot controllers will only control volume or wah effects. If you're needing that style of pitch-shifting, it seems like that would need to be added on separately. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320
Rory McCallum yes i know because i do that lol it sounds a little diffrent and a little weaker but with some tweaking it can sound just as good as micing it up
Said this many times..the Line6 IV and V are incredible..the days of using Tube Amps are Long gone..the technology the past 20 + years with Solid State/Modeling Amps is incredible..i haven't used a Tube Amp since introduced to a Marshall MG 100FX..back in 2009 ..the Solid State/Modeling Amps do it all and much more..and their much more reliable than a Tube Amp...
I wouldn't call that amp a budget model, it's 1300$ and doesn't include any speakers. Not super expensive but pricier. This is 399 and the 2x12 combo is 499.
Line 6 makes things so user friendly and the concepts truly are awesome, as great as that is it shouldn't be a reason to have shitty tones, were in 2016 and amp sim technology has evolved so much. Theres absolutely no reason why the sounds on this thing should be sub par, look at it this way, the Backstar ID core which is a quarter of the size manages to pump out more tube driven sounds than the Spider.
I was seriously considering going back to line 6 gear when I first saw the new Spider V, after ditching my POD HD500X for the DigiTech GSP1101. it seemed a great solution, the 120w version would be extremely portable, having a wireless option (at the additional cost of the transmitter) was also very tempting, and of course the cost jumps considerably by the time you add the FBV 3, which you would need to get the most out of the spider for live use, still financially viable though. Now, here's where it starts to go wrong for me, with all the amazing features it has, why oh why have line 6 decided we don't need a Whammy or a Harmoniser (smart pitch shift), unbelievable. Why include several compressors, choruses, flangers etc, but not those other 2 modulation effects that are essential to the kind of music I, and many many others play. Oh, and it doesn't seem to have a global eq for room compensation either, another essential omission in my view.
I would almost be calling their system with its app superior, but it for sure at least is super. It however sucks balls big time that they omitted to incorporate Bluetooth for connecting all those devices to this complete line of amps. At first I thought they had to be kidding but turns out the whole line lacks that. So you can nicely hook up your phone, laptop, tablet.. to a MICRO usb imput. Not the normal full size usb (which is type A) but the flimsy, vulnerable micro type (which is type B) which not one single device in the world plugs in to standard without you needing to go look for several different types of more or less exotic special cables and/or adapter plugs (micro-usb to micro-usb, type C to micro-usb, 3.5 millimeter jack female but maybe also male to micro-usb, LIGHTNING TO MICRO-USB!, usb-A FEMALE to micro-usb which itself with all that I just mentioned of course must be the male one all the time). Real nifty, they must have made that choice and withheld that from the user (even as a pay-more option!) on purpose. They probably gamble most ppl only will figure out how impractical the lack of that bt connection actually is (and the micro usb thing as well) AFTER they already bought it. Probably they thought to use that as a main reason for an upgrade to a coming version VI for those who now bought the V (like I did). I lately found Marshall DOES have a line of modeling amps that do have bluetooth. With this one, you are gonna need a cable to use the app, to stream music to play along with (on the smallest, the 20, there is no other line in, no aux!) and imagine how unpleasant that continuously present umbilical cord that totally limits your freedom of movement will turn out to be! you can probably not even sit down whilst you use the app, and I guarantee you that you will rip that whole fragile tiny micro usb port out of the amp's cabinet within a week or usage.
PS the Marshalls are a bit more expensive, but I think their effects, amp modes and sound even better than the Line 6's, real surprising. I like line 6's app better though especially its layout and looks.
Ive always been a fan of evhs frankenstrat and wolfgangs so I decided to make a hybrid. Check it out at Rescue Road band and if you like it message us and I'll be glad to help get you started. Between it and this line 6 rig Ive never been happier
Good luck with controlling the katana like you can the spider v and the fbv3 pedal. Most of the modelling amps don't have this capability, I probably would have kept the mustang iv I had if it wasn't limited to a total of five switches, the fb3 not only accesses presets, but can manually turn on and off each stomp in each preset, plus other functions and of course an expression pedal.
@JJ just bought one, I can honestly say I was hesitant, but I bought the full range 240 watt amp, and holy crap, it sounds amazing, been playing for 30+ years, and a multitude of equipment setups, none of them come close, tube or solid state. The key with this amp is tweaking the parametric eq to remove unwanted frequencies, then it comes alive!! The editor app is amazingly simple, and records beautifully through the mic cable outputs.
I love how the $400 amp demo uses a $2500 guitar.... How does it sound w/ a stock mexi-strat, squire, or low end LP clone? Though if you're starting out, the V does pack quite a bit for the $. Maybe enough to keep a beginner interested enough to get through the first playing plateau. Though that wah has to go.
Are they called Spiders because my brain can detect their latency delay down to the thickness of a spider's web. That said, the latency of these V's series is much better than the IV, but TUBES and F.E.T. guitar amps ( circa mid 70's AMPEG G-110 FET , or similar era Gibson Lab Series L5 FET...and their offspring) will ALWAYS SOUND BEST! Don't 'play the sound'. MAKE THE SOUND...choose REAL ANALOG.
