I got one 4 months ago. Exactly the same as in this demo. The remote is brilliant. The sound is very good. Using the interface on you Phone or Ipad is great. Saving tones is so easy, and you have access in the Icloud to whatever tone or artistflavour you want. The pedal tones (all sounds you ever need are in there) or cabinet tones or quit realistic. I play in a coverband, so I need different tones to sound real. And this Amp gets you every tone you want. And easy to access. Buying an amp took me a long time. I had 1 specific demand. Haedphone input. Many amps don't have that (strange?). I tried Fenders, Marshalls, VOX, Peavy, Boss, Roland but this one sounded the best. When I use on stage it gets thru the mix very good. My guitar tone gets out in the middle which I did not have with other amps. Forget all these vintage freaks who think that a Les Paul 1959 is the best guitar. Electronics developed over the years and I found modelling amps getting better all the time. Not to forget the price and the weight!
I use this exact amp at my church. Amp model: Double Verb Reverb choice: king spring. Modulation(s): Sine/Analog Chorus. It's an excellent sounding amplifier
This probably flies in the face of every tube purist but honestly this amp is fine.It isn't just a practice amp you can gig with it fine.True you might not use every effect but it's good to have them at your disposal.
I can tell the comments will be overwhelmingly negative, but this is basically everything someone could need from a practice amp. The user interface is great, the wireless thing is awesome, it has every effect and sound you could need. yeah, it doesn't sound stunning, but honestly it doesn't need to. It's not the point of the amp. The tones are useable and will get the job done for practicing.
These aren't as bad as the comments here are going to make it out to be but I wish more companies would drop the modelling stuff. Instead of wasting money on a million different "tones" they could put more value into a better speaker. Solid state played through a good speaker sounds great. Line6 makes good stuff but this modelling fad needs to stop.
ruffles272 Yeah, because the least important feature of an amp is how it sounds... Line 6 was great 20 years ago when digital first became popular but today it is just an overpriced midi interface with substandard output. With the software available today at more than half the price or free, one can spend their money way better by just getting a computer program (there are several available) and a decent 1x12 cab and still have some cash left over and have tremendously better tone for significantly less money. Add in the price of the pedal and your saving even more money. This is ever present with the Van Halen demo. As a matter of fact, with a desktop interface, you could skip the cab and just run good headphones and save some more cash. Actually, for the price of the V120 and the pedal and the wireless transmitter...one could get a very decent one channel tube amp, cab, and start a good pedal rig especially if you go used. That setup would be great for home recording and medium sized gigs and would sound amazing compared to the spider v. Sure, the spider v has a few cool features. The wireless, looper, 8-bit mode, but if someone is serious about playing guitar almost any other option at this price range is a better choice. Spiders use to be an affordable solution to a bunch of "decent" sounds but now they are just want your money. You can tell the guy playing through it on the video knows it sucks and is payed to make it look good so they can sell them. It's just business, but don't tell anyone that a practice amp doesn't need to sound good.
I took a 10 year break from playing guitar, sold everything but some guitars. Recently, I've been rediscovering it. I'm going to buy this amp to shake the rust off (20 watt version though...I dont mind cords) Thanks for the demonstration! I'll get a small Tube amp down the road, when I'm ready to drop 2k or so for an amp + pedals. This is more than I need until that time. It's between this and the fender mustang lt25 . I'm leaning towards this, especially since the last amp I owned was a Line 6 spider valve 212 by Bogner. Sweet riffs btw!
I think it's funny how many critics there are In these comments. Bang for buck, this is a good amp. I had to spend a bit over $3000 to get mediocre gear, so it's pretty relative. There's a lot happening with this amp that would cost way more to achieve in higher end gear. I give it a big thumbs up if you're on a budget, and want a lot of options.
Shopping right now for an amp. Hate to buy an amp and spend 200$+ on a pedal. I like that fact I can run this into my puter for recording. Also like that it has xlr output for gigging. Real nice John. Made my choice easier since the code by Marshall is crap. This or the Peavy VYPER.
Are there some additional positive, "tutorials" on getting everything you can out of this amp? How do you sing and play guitar with this amp. Easy question/easy answers? I bought the Line 6 Spider 120 V MK ii. Thank you
how the Guitar Radio transmitter Connection is working? Is this a Digital Sampler (and when yes what is the dynamic in bits?) and then a transmitter to the Guitar amplifier? If it is only analog then on witch frequency is this transmitter working?
I'm brand new to guitar. Total beginner. I like what the amp has to offer. I really want to buy this amp but all the negative press on this series amp and Line 6 all over you tube makes me a bit apprehensive to spend the money. I have spent hours listening to all the demos and reading all the comments and can't figure out how a 20 year old company could still be in business if their products were that bad. Alternatively, how is a beginner supposed to learn about different effects and tones in a home learning environment if not for these type of amps?
Hey Ron. You need to take your time and test drive this and a few other candidates at a music store. See how it sounds in your hands, spin a few knobs, have fun.
If you're starting off, this amp is perfect. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. And the price can't be beat.Don't listen to all the bullshit spewed out about Line6 on the internet. The amp can put out some pretty good tones if you make your own. I have a SpiderIV halfstack that I play sometimes and it sounds fine.
great video dude!! I have a question if anyone can answer I'd appreciate it greatly: I have a Firehawk FX that I use a lot and I like it very much but I'm running it through a vintage tube amp and it sounds way too warm and muddy even if I plug it directly to the Return in the effects loop, my question is if I get the spider V 120 and turn the Amp and Cab simulation off, can I put my firehawk FX in front of it to get a flatter response from the Amp so it won't color the sound as much?, also has anyone tried using this amp with different stomp boxes? How dose it behave if you push the input like that instead of just plugin your guitar directly?
Honestly, that's a fairly good clean guitar sound. You're just trolling if you say it sucks. As for the overdriven tones... well I'm sure they'd be better if he used a regular Les Paul or something.
Scott because it didn't.. Some music stores are doing bundles though.. But the great thing is the receiver is built in.. All you need is the transmitter. That's pretty good. Especially on the bigger powered versions.
Ok great playing by a skilled guitarist who got an abundance of great tones out of a Line 6 amp and it was fun to listen to etc. etc. But come on, really Line, 6 sux. This is just a promo. Just kidding, great product, loads of fun for a low price. I just wish all the Line 6 trolls would go to heck. Please.
All I can say is WOW but not WOW in a good way! I did not know that Sam from Supernatural plays guitar!!! He even stumbles saying, "Premier Guitar" because he knows this demo is incredulous. Fast forward to 4:22 and listen to him say the Van Halen preset does NOT sound like Van Halen (what?). Fast forward to 9:00 and see him LAUGHING when he dares us to tell him the "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" preset sounds like VH. Uh...NOT EVEN CLOSE! SO, WHY IS SAMMY DEMONSTRATING WHAT DOES NOT SOUND RIGHT (or good)? Isn't the purpose of a demo to highlight the good rather than the bad? Now I get it. It all just became clear to me! Sammy just spoiled the final season of Supernatural for me. The Winchester brothers have fought all manner of evil: werewolves, vampires, witches, and demons. But they saved the most evil for last: Sam and Dean will hunt down and kill Spider V amplifiers. Genius.
I have a Marshall Code 50 which sounds great, but my Peavey Special 212 Transtube amp which features a clean Chanel, and various gain channels ( high, ultra, modern, and vintage) with reverb, channeled through two 12" Sheffield Speakers, sounds better than either of these amps.
I have the Vypyr Pro 100 and while i think there's SOME effects on it that are complete trash, the entire amp is amazing. I just wish Peavey would pull their heads out of their ass and get a few more variants like a solid state head version and a 2x12 combo version and improve their footswitch capabilities....they seem to hold back a ton compared to their competition, and I really wonder what they're up to behind closed doors....they need more products!
Gibson71 Wood * One could if one needed plug that unit into a house PA and record direct to their computer at the same time so this amp is much more than a practice amp, look at that pedal board for the unit, that is for gigging musicians but these tones are great with a little dialing in proper. If you are a professional musician with knowledge on gear and have an ear for tone you can dial this amp in to meet profession standard and NEEDS. thanks for your opinion and pay no mind to mine if you don't happen to agree😉
The problems are: 1) Too expensive 2) The speaker For a good tone it's VERY important which and how many speakesr you're using. For a good tone (especially if it's digital) I recommend two speakers. The difference between this model (one speaker) and the 240 (two speakers) it's impressive...unfortunately these models are overpriced. In my opinion the only good amps of this new line6 Spider combo it's the 240 model because has two speakers, so the tone is much more dynamic, much stronger and you have more bass (good for a hard rock and metal stuff).
I own one, and it would be a perfect amp if it weren't for the artificial sounding models. The clean tones seems to be good, but distortion and fuzz to dirty things up just sounds fake and weird. I really wouldn't want to recommend it. Best to just get a good quality conventional guitar amp and add quality affects pedals I would say.

Always pushing buttons, it looked like a headache! I would just plug in and play like Angus Young. I just remember the line 6 stuff always sounded muddy, fizzy and mushy at high volumes, everyone would dig the line 6 stuff because it was full of 2000 effects :) I can’t stand being around guitar players that keep changing effects and sounds! Especially during a practise!! Damn, leave that crap for when your at home :) I am a fussy about what cables I use, tubes etc. But I sort that all out in my own time. A bass player I know told me line 6 amps sound like an angry bee when cranked up :)
"Man, I wonder how many dislikes this video is going to get!" -_- . Look guys, this is an amp for BEGINNERS, not for PROFESSIONAL RECORDING ARTISTS... Yes, it's not something I would spend the money on, but it's good enough for someone who's just starting out...

Hard and Fast Rule: you *never* demo an amp on video for the players/consumers with any guitar that does not have singles or hummers, because we, the listening audience, don't get to hear a demo of what we would hear playing with it, and 99.9% of the viewers would dismiss the product out of hand as shite due to their ignorant impatience, and sheer, just plain, impatient ignorance. SunnySalamander i know but 2 whole minutes on one setting . come on you have a million other presets and effects to go through. that is what im trying to say.
The Line6 Spider IV and V Amps are Brilliant..love them..
Awesome demo. Amazing sound quality. Love the gold plated hardware on the guitar
Thanks John. Good review. I actually played the Line 6 at GC and was pretty impressed. I really liked the jazz presets that it offers.
Awesome playing and great demonstration of the power of the Spider V!

The real drum tracks are amazing too. They take your practicing to the next level.
I have seen John primarily on his rig-rundowns, but he is a damn good player.
I could watch this guy play for hours
I took a 10 year break from playing guitar, sold everything but some guitars. Recently, I've been rediscovering it.

Amazing outro!
Best wishes
$3000+ guitar played into a Spider, you won't see that too often. LOL. Great playing as usual John.
That being said... that's a BEAUTIFUL GUITAR!!!!
Nice review....Thanks for doing it.
How do u connect a guitar to the speaker with cable
I think this sounds better than the Bogner tube version I just heard on guitar world UA-cam from ten years ago !
Nice review
outstanding value
Are there some additional positive, "tutorials" on getting everything you can out of this amp? How do you sing and play guitar with this amp. Easy question/easy answers? I bought the Line 6 Spider 120 V MK ii. Thank you
For a beginner, Line 6 works. I'd argue getting a different amp, but if you just want a heavy sound and effects as a beginner, can't complain.
Not only beginners. Robert Smith from The Cure uses it on stage as a main amplifiers.
Is there a key change to replace capo
There is a pitch shifter
how the Guitar Radio transmitter Connection is working? Is this a Digital Sampler (and when yes what is the dynamic in bits?) and then a transmitter to the Guitar amplifier? If it is only analog then on witch frequency is this transmitter working?
Great review, great sounds.
Clean tones sounded pretty good but the dirty tones were nasty. IMO of course.
Have to agree that it does have lots of useful features though.
I'm brand new to guitar. Total beginner. I like what the amp has to offer. I really want to buy this amp but all the negative press on this series amp and Line 6 all over you tube makes me a bit apprehensive to spend the money. john bohlinger It's cool you take the time to reply to people. I know this is a year old video, just noticed. Also, always a fan of your work!
Hope you spent your money on a katana 100 or an artist for the price brotha
What replacement speakers have been found to be better
Hey folks, I got a Line 6 Amplifi 75. Greatest single rig I EVER Met!!!
Jack Bo is the modeling engine on the amplifi the same as spider V?
Frank D yeah, just the speaker is different and not as crappy. I actually replaced the speaker in my spider with an Eminence one and it sounds cool
I have a spider IV 120 2x10 combo with celestions...sounds far better than the new one
Does the pedal board come with the amp or is it sold separately?
Separately
Where's the gorilla? Glad you got this thing figured out John.
great video dude!! How Many bass amps are included ??
I am a bass player. But I like to mess around on guitar. This is good enough for me.. drives my wife crazy
Great bang for the buck, Thanks bro!
Is this amp good for getting metal tone that equals Disturbed, Megadeth...Killswitch Engaged...stuff like that?
No the dirty channel sucks
Ps, Great playing btw!
Awesome guy. :-)
9:07 GOD NO. Horrible muddy digital tone. WAY too much gain.
Yeah, the presets are a bit over the top. But you can dial them back in an instant with the gain knob (or quickly do any other mod to the presets).
Yes I agree but you can get them to sound good.
Twimpy Boy well, for the money, it’s untouchable
Anyone ever change out the speaker in one of these amps?
Honestly, that's a fairly good clean guitar sound. You're just trolling if you say it sucks.
As for the overdriven tones... well I'm sure they'd be better if he used a regular Les Paul or something.
They sound a lot better on UA-cam than they do live IMHO.
They sound thin.
And that's a not inexpensive Gretsch FFS. LOL
I bought this and it didn't come with the wireless or the pedals
Scott because it didn't.. Some music stores are doing bundles though.. But the great thing is the receiver is built in.. All you need is the transmitter. That's pretty good. Especially on the bigger powered versions.
It's not V, it is "five".
Please.
Spider “V” lol it’s the five
the only thing I dont like about the connectivity aspect,is that I have to keep the usb plugged in my tablet the whole time
Is he just jamming in the beginning with the clean stuff or is that a song?
The clean part was an idea I was working on, the dirty thing I just made up on the spot to match the drums. Thanks for watching
john bohlinger thanks.

Stratosfear12569 I've got a VYPYR.
You might have tried a classical acoustic with a sound hole pick up to get the Van Halen sound ya Jack Wagon🤣😂🤣
It's a fine sounding practice amp, great for anyone that needs to use head phones. It's a practice amp... nothing more..
Nice Axe anyway 😎
I dont know guys sound kind of boxy!...what you guys think?
The problems are:
1) Too expensive
2) The speaker
For a good tone it's VERY important which and how many speakesr you're using. For a good tone (especially if it's digital) I recommend two speakers. I always say, it it’s got more than 3 effects, leave it be :)
Gibson Weasel so clean, dirty, and high gain? No wah, reverb, or flange?
You're not getting the exact tones, because you're playing a hollow body...
but I still want it :)
It charges it up - so there is no batteries.... (I am skeptical of this guy....)
He's talking about the wireless relay for playing the guitar cordless. He's not referring to the amp when making that comment.
Kind of stupid to limit the connectivity to apple products.
I own one, and it would be a perfect amp if it weren't for the artificial sounding models. The clean tones seems to be good, but distortion and fuzz to dirty things up just sounds fake and weird. I really wouldn't want to recommend it. Best to just get a good quality conventional guitar amp and add quality affects pedals I would say.

no
like Johns playing.....the amp...not so much.

Laughing at this dumb comment 3 years later
I played one of these in Sam Ash the other day and this amp sounds like ass. Typical crappy digital distortion

well I guess you got it all figured out then eh
i'm afraid to spiders, sorry
This amp is not a good
Christian Castellanos certainly subjective dude
Opinions do vary.
Christian Castellanos Line6 not good?..who says YOU..and who are YOU..the Spider IV and V are fantastic amps..Maybe if you learned how to use it..i bet you don't most of you who Bitch don't know a damn thing how to dial it in and you pretty Suck ass at guitar..
Sounds fake and plastic to me. Everytime I played a Line6 amp I could feel the latency of the AD/DA converters...
