      Can you please react to Alter Bridge - Words Darker Than Their Wings live at the royal Albert hall or Alter Bridge - Watch Over you live at Billboard? Alter Bridge is an amazing but an underrated band. Their singer Myles Kennedy is really awesome, has been voted as vocalist of the year for 3 consecutive years topping amazing vocalists like Chester Bennington from Linkin Park and Corey Taylor from Slipknot. Please do one of above reactions! 😊❤️🙏

      If you are looking for more Pantera try Walk, Cowboys From Hell, This Love and Primal Concrete Sledge. For more thrash style metal Sepultura "Bloody Roots" is amazing. Megadeth "Holy Wars.....the Punishment Due" is great. If you wanna go into speed Metal check out Slayer "Raining Blood" or "War Ensemble". Yeah.

    I'm amazed how Rex is never given any credit. His groovy bass lines set the tone for Panteras style. The sound of of his bass added the growl and grit. His timing was good and he was great at harmonizing with Phil's vocals. Not taking away from the other band members, but Rex needs some of the love.

      Not to mention, literally half of dimebags tone most of the time is actually rex’s bass. The mix of bass and guitar was pretty even so hearing tracks without the bass you can clearly see that rex’s bass was giving dimes guitar some punch and making the link between the guitar and the drums even tighter.

      When does a bass player ever get cred in a metal band? lmao. Unless you're Cliff Burton or something. Not to mention the producers never know how to mix bass in the studio, and live it just gets swallowed by the kick drum.

    • @billhorrigan4388
      @billhorrigan4388 3 роки тому +18

      @@Cheeseburgerman23 Rex was well mixed. His bass was the growl and depth in Pantera's sound. Yet he is never mentioned in anything when they talk about the band.

      @Cheeseburgerman23 3 роки тому +7

      @@billhorrigan4388 Rex is decently audible in the mix, but not that much. It kinda has this treble boost but not much actual bass to the sound, so I can really only hear him on headphones. A bass player I can always hear well is David Ellefson since the Megadeth producers knew how to boost his mid range and low end more. And truth be told, his best bass playing was on Southern trendkill. He is a lot louder and his bass part during the middle solo of Floods is amazing, it’s like a duet with Dime. But when you’re in a band with Dimebag AND Phil Anselmo, you’ll never be in the limelight.

      YES, Floods!! BUT...not the live version so many reactors watch, Phil was deep into drugs and it sounded very muddy and lost a lot of the amazing nuances that you can hear in the studio version. Also, not the "studio" version with the most views, because that has a number of audio glitches, and they completely remove you from the feeling of the song. Instead I highly recommend a lyric version, because most people can't understand what Phil was singing anyway. Floods is by far one of my favorite Pantera songs, hands down. Phil is a fully trained power metal vocalist.The band changed from power metal to the form they are more known for in 1990 with the release of Cowboys From Hell album, Vulgar Display Of Power the next album was more groove based and subsequent albums got heavier with the core groove base still intact.

    • @chrismeadows4216

      The term power metal is actually misleading. His first album with Pantera was called Power Metal, but the band had distinctively been doing music influenced by Van Halen, KISS, and Judas Priest, and Phil's vocals weren't quite as mythical as power metal, being more focused on party-time glam-metalling delivery. A lot more husky rasp and sporadic squealing, as opposed to full-on operatic delivery. Going into groove metal and death metal was a huge decision for Pantera to make, but their later era was great. The Terry Glaze period's influence wasn't very persistent in their sound. 🙂😌

There was a saying in New Wave that a guitar solo was one note. Yet Metal in its many incarnations is still alive and well and using power guitar runs while New Wave has faded into the mists of nostalgia.

    So happy you're reacting to Pantera! If you can take some intense music, suggest listening to Suicide Note 1 & 2 together to hear Phil's different singing/screaming styles... since you're a singer. Otherwise, you could try Hollow, Heresy, the Art of Shredding or This Love. Since you're an opera singer, I think these are better for singing.

    The dueling solos at the end is the stuff of Legend. Phil vocalizes and competes with Dimebag's guitar at the end. This Love is a good one, its almost like their version of a ballad. And the reactions to this song really get to miss the actual Intro. Just make sure to check it out when you can, you will see why. Phil has another band called Down, you should check out Stone the Crow. Little bit different on his vocals there as well.

    I've commented many times that a vocal coach/singer who reacts hasn't earned their stripes until they react to this song. The reason being that Phil's vocals are at times soft, graveling, belting, and of course the note duel with the guitar at the end is something in and of itself. ~Be Blessed

    I appreciate your effort to do a lot of extra research on the song. You've got a new subscriber!!! 🥰💙
    Phil Anselmo was a phenomenal vocalist, and absolutely one of the best in the rock genre. Unfortunately, he'd developed serious addictions to heroin and alcohol, and exercised extremely damaging vocal techniques. He can still sing with distortion well, but he doesn't have a lot of range anymore. He's become a very different vocalist over the years.
    I'd really recommend doing a reaction to David Bowie. A 3-part song called Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing (Reprise). It combines the stylings of soul music, glam rock, proto-punk, and rock n' roll to create a very distinct experience. I'd recommend a video with the lyrics in description, from a channel called Southern Rocker, because correct lyrics are hard to find on a lyric video or on Google. You're probably a little familiar with David Bowie, but I swear his range and technique on that suite will really be something special for you. Keep on keeping on!!! 😄🙂

    I know why Pantera decided to go heavier and heavier with their music, but this song showed Phil's full range. Some of the notes he hits on the ablum (not just this song) are unbelievable. Quite honestly he could have placed on the same pedestal with Tate, Dickinson and Halford in time, but that's not the way they went and even though I love Pantera's sound (which never got better than Vulgar Display of Power, in my opinion), I wish Phil had continued to sing the way his did in this song.

    In Dimebag's early days - high school era - he would enter battle of the bands-type competitions - solo - and always win. Eventually, because of his reputation, they wouldn't let him compete, but still play if he wanted to. So, he did. Many people would show up just to watch him play, the leave the venue when he left the stage.
    Eddie Van Halen had his original Frankenstein guitar buried with Dimebag.
