I always loved this song. As usual your reaction, and analysis was a treat to watch. Both entertaining, and educational, and your enthusiasm for music always shows through. Pantera are musical legends, it is sad that half of the members are no longer with us.
Yeah unfortunately Phil didn't take care of his voice and by the early 2000s it was clear he was losing it. :( Too much drinking, smoking, drugs and hard partying..
I love watching these and feeling like I've learned a little something about a song I already liked. But it's an added bonus that you are an absolutely stunning woman.
I know Phil was incredible during the end of the song, but I’d like to say: Dime was another animal entirely. As they say, he was simply built different. Loved your reaction! Incredible how you broke down the techniques. You’re incredibly well-versed. Love from a fellow Aussie!
Yeah i keep thinking the same its a southern thing ! Phil is from New Orleans -the deeeeep south - he sings like the South 🇺🇸 actually when you listen to Darrell (guitarist) sing in a little Arlington bar in Texas- singing "cat scratch fever" - i just hear his normal southern voice come out & is how he actually talked ... not everyone understands -its a southern'thing I only knew Vinnie, Darrell, Rex ... non singing voices & they are frm TEXAS - they talk & sing with Texas twang i guess to say .... adding Phil was bring in deep southern vocals from new orleans Pantera -Vinnie - they NEVER sold-out to hollywood bs band crap! they kept their southern style & made their own rules !!!
I’ll never tire of watching people discover something I’ve had the privilege of knowing its greatness for 34 years. Pantera were local boys for me and their loss is still felt to this day.
They were a Texas-based band, and Phil himself is from Louisiana, so a bit of Southern US dialect occasionally comes through in their vocals. That twang, and unique vowel placement on words like "past" are typical of the Southern dialect.
Many other people have mentioned the missing intro, but I felt like your description at the end of the solo building on themes definitely merited a mention as the first part of the solo recalls the ridiculously beautiful build towards the intro's conclusion. The long, long sustain with building storm-like drums, followed by the crash into the beginning of the first crunching, almost-discordant playthrough of the main riff (included at the beginning of this video, but shorn of context) is one of the best bits of musical emotional manipulation in metal.
Hey Julia, Pantera is my #1 beloved metal band for quite while now, I really enjoyed listening to the explanation of technical background of Phil's voice from you. Really appreciate.
Every time someone listens to this song for the first time, I look forward to the falsetto at the end - the shock on everyone's face is always hilarious
Drummer and guitarist are brothers ( Vinnie Paul & Dimebag Darrell) Dime was the guy that got shot on stage during a live show right in front of his brother! Dime was a huge influence to A LOT of people!!!
Another one that The Charismatic Voice did recently was Queensryche - Take Hold Of The Flame, live in Tokyo. Think you'd really enjoy that one as well.
I know I love this song and this performance more than I can describe but it's fun to hear you break it down. The speech quality part and about how he takes vowels and does some real dynamic things with them, it makes sense now why it's so pleasing to listen to even though I don't understand the music theory. Also why I appreciate these breakdowns. And then "the note" of course being mimiced by the guitar which is goosebump city. Great reaction.
Top notch react. Honestly maybe the most professional (whilst still entertaining) react I've seen. It almost has the structure and depth of a report or project and you still kept it feeling impromptu. You touch on so many aspects. Very impressive.
I love the way you are enjoying this so much. The abbot brothers (dimebag on lead guitar and vinnie on drums) and Phil really did something special in pantera. Visionaries in their own right, I think
The singer has another band called down. I would suggest reacting to lifer or eyes of the south by down live in dallas 1995. He sounds better than the album versions at that show

@@jvoxfox agreed!! On that note, if you venture further into Pantera and do Floods, please do NOT use the version with the most views, as there is a glitch in the audio not once, but twice in the epic guitar solo, and it completely removes you from the immersion of the music. Honestly for Floods, I recommend one of the lyric versions. You're awesome! 💕

Watch an En Minor video, and you'd be interested in the changes in his voice over the years. This cat hasn't lost even a teensy bit of the vibrato or any technique at all, but his voice has gone down beneath the range of human hearing lol

This made me happy. Actually brought tears in my eyes. I will always love this band. Thank you!
RIP Dime & Vinnie
😓💧💧💧💖💖💖🔥🔥🔥333
I felt that frog in my throat as well.
@@justinfox2310 You're crying, I'm not crying 😆
Damn, every time, those last three gates, and Dime on that guitar. . . chills every time.
she didn't cover the last one....
Great loss with both Dime and Vinny Paul. Rest in peace gentlemen.
I believe big Val also lost his life trying to protect one during the attempt on their life’s. Whoa Val! Three!!!!
So great and amazing to see someone young recognize brilliance. Between dime on guitar his brother on the drums and Phil. That makes the most overlooked bassist in rock history. Although gone, the Cowboys from Hell will always rule
Rex gets no love
I always loved this song. As usual your reaction, and analysis was a treat to watch. Both entertaining, and educational, and your enthusiasm for music always shows through. Pantera are musical legends, it is sad that half of the members are no longer with us.
I liked your Cemetery Gates reaction vid the most!
It would be amazing if you and Elizabeth Zharoff made a reaction video together.
Hell YEAH!!!
I hope you’ve listened to the entire studio version by now. The intro is very important to the overall feel of the song.
If you liked this song, then "The Sleep" by Pantera would be an excellent choice to react to as well. Won't disappoint Julia! 💯👌🏻❤
Right here.
Some of dimes best guitar work 🤘
32 years ago.... Another great band to hold itself in the annals of rock
Of metal !
I saw these guys twice in 1991/92. Their live performance sounded just as good as the albums. They have a LOT of great tunes to react to.
Dimebag wicked riffs, RIP brother.
I know Phil was incredible during the end of the song, but I’d like to say: Dime was another animal entirely. As they say, he was simply built different. Loved your reaction! Incredible how you broke down the techniques. You’re incredibly well-versed. Love from a fellow Aussie!
If you are a vocal coach, this is a MUST song to review.
18:03 Starts to sound very metallic.
Well it is metal so that makes sense.
Rest easy, Dime and Vinnie. 💚
I LOVE this song and this band. That twang is brought to you by Texas. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Actually, that twang is brought to you from Louisiana. The band is from Texas, but Phil is from Louisiana.
Yeah
i keep thinking the same
its a southern thing !
Phil is from New Orleans -the deeeeep south - he sings like the South 🇺🇸
actually when you listen to Darrell (guitarist) sing in a little Arlington bar in Texas- singing "cat scratch fever" - i just hear his normal southern voice come out & is how he actually talked ...
not everyone understands -its a southern'thing
I only knew Vinnie, Darrell, Rex ... non singing voices & they are frm TEXAS - they talk & sing with Texas twang i guess to say
.... adding Phil was bring in deep southern vocals from new orleans
Pantera -Vinnie - they NEVER sold-out to hollywood bs band crap!
they kept their southern style & made their own rules !!!
I fucking love Pantera I cry when I listen to them fuck they make me feel like life is so miserable compared to such magnifiency
Awesome reaction!
You should react to King Diamond- "Sleepless Nights" live at the Fillmore! He can sing with a very high pitch.
Another very underappreciated vocalist.
About " notes higher than Regular tenor range "
Phil is a Baritone :) , even i think you get it by hearing his more Verses / chorus singing .
Hey Julia, Pantera is my #1 beloved metal band for quite while now, I really enjoyed listening to the explanation of technical background of Phil's voice from you. Really appreciate.
Request for Deftones - Passenger
Chino Moreno and Maynard James Keenan together 👌
are you trying to seduce her? xD
@@leliel12th43 ummm 😵 Noooooo......
Lyrics aside, the vocals are excellent
YYYYYEEEEESSSS!
I like Root, especially the guitar at the beginning.
Two guys also died in that shooting trying to stop the gunman. They saved a lot of lives. One was a civilian and one an off duty cop.
I love that is not just the vocals she is reacting to, but also the intrumental work of the song
Another one that The Charismatic Voice did recently was Queensryche - Take Hold Of The Flame, live in Tokyo. Think you'd really enjoy that one as well.
Very few people can match Phil Anselmo, but Geoff Tate can equal and one up him.
RIP Dime, RIP Vin... two of the nicest and kick ass rockstars ever... love you guys.
Damn, I remember when Dime was taken
He was an amazing vocalist and his current views don't change that. It's a real shame he's a big ol' racist now.
Anselmo is a fuckin beast. Hes one of the greatest leads of all time
Top notch react. Honestly maybe the most professional (whilst still entertaining) react I've seen. It almost has the structure and depth of a report or project and you still kept it feeling impromptu. You touch on so many aspects. Very impressive.
10:20 And the first thought that goes through my head is: "you ain't heard nothing yet."
EVERY Pantera song is awesome, period.
I was rid with so much anxiety worried she was gonna pause on a dime solo. YOU DONT PAUSE ON A DIME SOLO!
He sounds better than the album versions at that show
Let’s not forget, however, that Down had another lead vocalist in the band. Pepper Keenan was the lead singer for Corrosion of Conformity.
I absolutely love hearing from a master of their craft. That's you. You are a master. Listening to you analyze all types of music is amazing. Thank you for what you do.
My ONLY complaint here is that you watched the official video, so you actually missed a good chunk of the beginning of the song, with vocals. But I love that you're doing some Pantera!! 🤘♥️
I will go and find it... promise!! sometimes it's hard to tell what version something is when you haven't watched it before.
Please do Floods!!
@@jvoxfox please listen to the full masterpiece

Awesome reaction. 👍 Thanks for paying such close attention to the details.
My fellow Americans played this and similar songs like Heaven and Hell on the outbound Medevac flights and in the Helicopters on the way to street patrol in Iraq. OMG 😗
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your joy and excitement when Phil hits those extremely high notes.
Me too! Knowing it was coming, I was like “ just you wait, girl”.
You need to check out Alice In Chains “Love hate love” live
That's one of my favorite songs too, as is this one.
Also, check out "The End Of Heartache" by Killswitch Engage. Live version or studio version doesn't matter, he sounds the same either way.
Rebecca Vocal Athlete did a reaction to "Love Hate Love live at The Moore" that I loved.
I just like hearing vocal coaches react to this song because they always go nuts at how high Phil can go and how fast Dimebag can play. 🤟
Phil was just singing his heart out for metal🤘🤘
Watch an En Minor video, and you'd be interested in the changes in his voice over the years. This cat hasn't lost even a teensy bit of the vibrato or any technique at all, but his voice has gone down beneath the range of human hearing lol
Carlos Santana has been my favorite guitar player since the early 70’s. Samba Pa Ti and Europa are a couple of my favorite songs of his. Thanks for the reaction sir.
There are so many reaction videos that miss the first verse and solo, both of which are such fundamental parts to the song.
It's the video edit
@@therealnynetynyne360 it's the video they're choosing which is incomplete. I've seen that video myself and it's incomplete.
@@johnkingi9237 the band released the edit not some asshat making a shortened video.
My god Julia. Your hair is *AMAZING!* OFF the CHARTS!
such gorgeous color and SO healthy looking!
Alice in Chains - Nutshell from MTV unplugged. Most of us would love to hear your thoughts on that classic performance. Thanks for the content!
First of all, Alice In Chains and Pantera are two of my favorite bands, too. Secondly, check out the Howard Jones era of Killswitch Engage, particularly the song "The End Of Heartache". Trust me, you'll like it - I've even seen non-metalheads like his voice. 🤟
Thank you for your detailed analysis. It brings new light to the song. But you should hear the beginning and the very end -- possibly the best part of the song.
It's crazy how high Phil can go when his normal voice is so low.
Yeah, Phil does a much rougher version of Geoff Tate.
@@craighenry2351 he was a fan of Halford , Paul dianno , Manowar as well... Exciter too .
As Phil would fight anybody at any time it makes sense that his vocal chords would fight each other... Try "this love"
