    Every other tutorial I've watched has just been different iterations of "so make the grudge vocal fry noise and then just scream!". This is the only one that actually shows the transition between the low fry noise and the full complex fry sound, thank you!

      I am very glad to hear that from you! Indeed the vocal fry itself doesn't lead directly to the scream, it can be just a one of the necessary elements.
      Also there are ways of how to scream that are not using a vocal fry :D
      Thank you for your comment and have a great day!

    This deserves way more views. This short video was far more illuminating than the other dozen popular videos that just rehash the anatomy of the technique for half the video and then say "breathe better!" the latter half, haha.

    I’ve been taking classes on screams and false chords screams are my go to, I learned to do it in about 2 weeks. Then I tried to learn fry scream and I’ve been stuck on the same point for around 1 or 2 months and I wasn’t seeing any progress, I just tried this and I already see a little bit of progress! Thank you 🤘

      Hi Jaime! It's great you took classes on screaming, a good teacher is really helpful, not only to obtain good skills but also for avoiding bad and unhealthy habits :)
      Fry scream is a little bit more tricky than false cord for the most of people so it's great that you see some progress!

      Frying is HARD. Like it is about as brutally hard to figure out as the music its in.

      Frying is definitely harder (in mine and many other opinions) but it’s actually “safer” or less taxing on the larynx, epiglottis, and voice as a whole than false chords. Like if you do them right, they’re both safe but false chords are rougher so that’s definitely interesting to me

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  4 роки тому +2

      Hi, first of all Thank You!
      That little "crack" happens very often when we switch between lower and upper registers pretty fast and our voice "breaks" and gets a little distorted.
      We can use it for our advantage and "hold" that break and again switch between upper and lower registers (for example between head voice and falsetto) while "sustaining" that distorted "crack". Up and down, with that fry distortion and slowly we add more breath support to raise the volume of the whole sound.

      Hi Andy! Indeed the vocal fry is pretty efortless :D Some people that suffer from constrictions in the throat or jaw struggle to make it so if it's really easy for you to use it all day long, it's a good that sign that your voice box is pretty much relaxed which is a solid foundation for building fry scream.
      When I asked my students what helped them the most when we practiced fry, the most common answer was placing a vocal fry sound on the top of the head voice or falsetto register. Maybe it will also be helpful for you.

    I noticed to people who teach or sing vocal fry alot have the same voice when they talk, like they talk with permanent fry. But you have a normal talking voice. And you explain it in better detail then they do as well. I would assume you know how to do it the safest.

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, first of all thank You for the positive feedback, it is awesome and uplifting to receive such kind words.
      Your observation is right for the most cases, I hear it too.
      Sometimes it is like when a person learns the fry, it becomes natural or even addictive to add it every time we speak or sing :D
      It is a matter of awareness and choice. Personally I like fry but I try to use it in a balanced way, there are many awesome tools to add some variety to our voice and using only one of them can become limiting some day.
      When someone talks all the time with a fry it can be also a sign that the voice is not working properly, sometimes it happens due to chronic fatigue, lack of vocal rest, lack of the breath support or lowering the pitch too much or other technical issues.

I am going ti upload a kargyraa tutorial in english on upcoming Friday but in the meantime you can try out the video above about using the vocal fry for getting a grit.

I hope I could do it better after I will try your exercises, they look great.

    Hey, so basically I’m just wanting to learn so I can sing along to my favorite emo bands some of which happen to scream in a lot of their songs. I’ve tried a similar technique to the first one of yours and something weird happened. I hit a scream but it felt like my vocal cords just gave out and I couldn’t continue the sound and now one side of my neck hurts. I know my explanation is probably confusing, I’m not much of a singer lol, do you think you might know what I was doing wrong? Edit: I’ve only been practicing for 3 days, should I just not go past the first sound for a while? If so resisting the urge to try while listening to sleeping with sirens will be difficult lol

      Hi, if You want to learn fry scream, your throst has to be opened, laeynx relaxed and 6ou have tl set the proper placement for the sound, for example by using lazy vocal fry.
      Otherwise You will stress your neck, throat or other areas of body that are doing too much work.

      Most of emocore bands using false cords, not vocal fry. Try to learn false cords, its best for begginers, I sing false cords at death metal bands like Dark tranquility, arch enemy, and I am learning righ now few asking alexandria and bullet for my valentine songs, its more with false cords, I am starting with vocal fry only now to could make a cover for bands like Cypecore(mixed vocal fry with false cords) and Lamb of god. False cords scream and vocal fry scream is different. For emocore you should try false cords scream.

      Hi, thank you!
      For the most of people, including me, it is easier to hit first fry screams using higher register and pitch.
      Sometimes people learn low screams/ growls firstly but pretty often they combine false cord with fry technique without knowing that but of course it is possible to learn firstly low fry scream but from what I observe it is less common then higher ones in the beginning.

      Can you send me your vocals on email? It would be easier for me to help you find the direction for your fry.
      For sure we want to sustain throat opened (lifted soft palate and slightly lowered larynx, similiar to yawning), the vocal tract has to be free from any unnecessary tension and we have to be familiar with adding support in a flexible way (the higher, the louder or more dirty slund we want to make, the support is increased).
      Also a sensation that things we are doing with our voice are comfortable (even if they require much effort, they still should feel comfortable).

    Could you help me?
    I was trying to fry scream, it had been about 3 days since the last time I tried. But after warming up and trying a few times, I felt like I was really short of breath, I thought maybe I hadn't had a good breakfast or it was because of the hot weather. I kept trying and the first few times I did feel a burning sensation in my throat, but there came a time when my fry scream was powerful, it was not the best, but I felt that I had succeeded, and it didn't hurt at all. I was very happy. But for the rest of the day, my throat felt sore, but I thought it was normal. A week has passed and my throat is still burning, and I still feel a little swollen. I am quite afraid to think if it is serious damage, even if it was not, I am afraid to think that I will not be able to continue practicing fry screams. Did it happen to someone else? Will I be able to practice again? Will I have caused myself serious harm? I need your help please.

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Oscar! You mention a serious issue and it is great that You wrote a comment. I will try to help as much as I can.
      Fry scream is a kind of subtle and pretty precise technique which can't stand pushing or being "squeezed" through the throat.
      The key is to relax the vocal fry and to open throat (and to sustain that opened setting through the whole range of pur voice no matter the technique, pitch or register).
      We can open throat e.g. by yawning - the larynx lowers a bit, the soft pallate raises and we feel inside of mouth, back of throat and in the throat itself more space. We begin sound with a confidence yet in a smooth manner without using too much force.
      It is really helpful for learning and later improvement of the fry scream technique.
      Second thing is the vocal fry - creaky, lazy and totally efortless sound which is a basis for the fry scream technique.
      Also vocal fry and fry scream, especially in the beginning can be pretty quiet, for example when we match it with a false chord growl. Very important thing is to set properly your voice, vocal fry and fry scream and increase the volume and intensity week after week gradually with patience.
      Otherwise You will likely damage your voice because fry hates to be pushed or amplified too much with a force.
      Firstly You can feel no pain, no discomfort etc. but after hour, half a day etc. You can start to feel that your vocal folds are swollen, inflamed or other unpleasent sensations that are result of creating too much pressure on our larynx and vocal folds as well.
      I went through it. I learnt to fry scream in a week but what I did was not healthy - I squeezed out the fry scream through my throat, it sounded pretty cool but after 15 minutes my voice was like shit.
      I learnt that relaxed and opened throat, patience and practice with vocal fry are essentials to learn to use fry scream properly, for the best sound and highest comfort.
      Also performing breathing exercises is helpful because when we train our breathing we strengthen every muscle involved in screaming or singing and the breath support.
      I would recommend to see a phoniatrist if your throat will not get back to good shape after a week.
      Things like that should not be ignored and sensations like pain, soreness, inflamation etc. are not necessary or normal when we practice our vocals :)
      I hope that it will be helpful and You will get back your voice soon!

    Is it okay to feel minor discomfort or does that mean I'm doing it wrong.

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  3 роки тому

      Hi! It depends what kind of discomfort it is.
      If it is something like after a workout at the gym when you try out new exercises and your muscles are not used to them yet, you may feel a slight discomfort but it isn't a sensation like your muscles are really aching or that it can lead to any injury.
      It works pretty much similiar with the vocals, if the discomfort is minor and it doesn't mean burning in your throat, faded voice, pain and other serious things like that, it's quite normal because our throat, larynx and muscles also need to adapt to a new situation.
      However if you feel pain or any of things that I've mentioned above, then it's not good. Maybe you practice too long (even 10-15 minutes of screaming practice after a warm-up is enough), maybe you use too much pressure and effort or too much air. But if everything seems to be ok and the discomfort disappears in a matter of minutes or hours, then it's pretty common and to be honest hard to avoid every time when you practice in the beginning of your screaming adventure.
      I hope that my comment will be helpful,
      have a great day!

      @sibilaextremevocal  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, when we make a vocal fry or fry noise we can feel vibrations in the area of our soft palate, the back of tongue, overall vocal tract. Beside that we can feel the sound in the upper and side parts of the larynx. Also we can we feel vibrations in the lower part of our neck. If you feel the sound in those places, then the placement is rather alright :)
      The noise is good when you feel it is comfortable, your larynx and jaw are free from constrictions and the sound even when it is compressed it doesn't sound like it was squeezed etc. You can record your vocals and compare it to basic vocal fry and fry examples.
