  • Here's a follow along step by step tutorial for learning the fry scream. One of the viewers inspired me to create this one - thank you!
    The 5 Steps Method:
    1. Vocal fry and playing with the pitch (higher, lower, mid etc.)
    2. Lazy, clean sound and putting on it's top the vocal fry
    3. Placing a vocal fry on the top of the falsetto or full head voice
    4. While sustaining the sound wrinkle your nose and smile
    5. While sustaining that sound and face close your mouth, build up the support, energy, compression (gradually tense your solar plexus and let the sound to move a little bit higher) and when you will feel that the sound is "bigger" and sharper open your mouth and release the fry scream!
The shorter explanation and demonstration for each of the steps begins at 10:34
The "pure practice" part without my talking begins at 12:12

Just learned fry scream a few days ago. It all just clicked out of nowhere for me. In the past I've tried to learn it watching this and other's tutorials, but I happened to get the sound out of nowhere when I decided to give it a try randomly, and it worked! So guys do NOT worry if it doesn't work out the first or the second or the third try. Eventually it will like it did for me. Also REMEMBER, if it hurts then stop immediately, rest for some days and then go right back at it with a slightly different approach! You don't have to force the sound. Stay relaxed and I wish you the best of practice!!

i had a sudden urge to try and learn to fry scream. i have no experience whatsoever in music and whatnot, but your video has really helped me in starting to learn. though i am nowhere near close to achieving the scream yet, i will definitely keep coming back to this video to help me practice! i had cycled through like 10 other videos before this one, and this one was really the best. so glad i found you. you got a new sub! :D

I knew I would have to learn fry scream when I realized the scream I do (I learned is false chord) just doesn’t sound right. Thanks for getting me started!

I did this for three days and I can say confidently that I do fry screaming. I reached high notes I did not even know I could. Could you make a video where I could learn how to control my breathing exercises to build my endurance in general? Because the truth is I learned how to do it, but can not do it throughout a song. Thank you for your videos!

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but when I do it it’s just highs that I can do, and I feel like I clinch my upper throat a lot, but there’s no discomfort. I do false chords really well, I just can’t fry, and I feel limited without learning them. This Vid made me realize I’ve been doing it wrong the last couple years of trying

Been dabbling in this for a couple months. Got the basic down but kept getting an itch in the back of my throat and didn't know why. When following your instructions for pitch I could feel that my problem was transitioning from one pitch to another--I was relying on my chords and not the air. I wouldn't have figured that out without your help--thank you so much for making this!

I bought your course on udemy and this video, with imagining lifting up the fry to specific parts of the head basically changed my life. Btw: I recently told a friend of mine about it and she couldn't believe it when she did her first fry scream and what she is able to do with her voice. Dude, this is GOLD!
