Thx. for sharing. Quick question. Changed genuine engine oil and filter on 2020 CRV 1.5T . After that, the engine makes periodic roraing/buzzing sound. Like every 10 seconds lasts for 2 seconds. Any thoughts

I think your report is pretty good at this point. I have the same engine in a 2017 CR-V, never noticed a visible dilution problem, and did my first oil analysis at 110,000 miles, 6500 miles on the oil, 0W-20 full synthetic. My dilution was 2.5% and my wear metals are within expected averages. If you've got your dilution down to 2.5% in 6,000 miles, I'd say you've done pretty well.

Thank you so much for sharing your findings. I’m extremely appreciative of the information about using higher viscosity oil. I’d say the injectors seemed to help dilution if you’re still running 87. Hard to say with a small sample size but it looks that way. I’ll swap mine in the near future.
It’s been a pleasure following your troubleshooting.

Can I put a 2024 Honda CRV EV Turbo engine into my 2017 model?

My family has 3 Civics, a 2017 EX-T CVT that runs on 87 octane, a 2018 Hatchback Sport CVT that runs on 92 octane and a 2023 Si that runs on 92 octane. All with different versions of the turbo L15 engine. I don't see how bad the effects of the oil dilution is. Sure, we live in the Pacific Northwest but my brother has 127 sonething thousand miles on his car, the Hatchback Sport. He does have oil dilution but he romps his car alot in gear D. Also, he does 5k mile oil change intervals. My Dad drives his EX-T like a grandpa and goes by Honda's Maintenance Minder and waits till 5% oil life. I can't remember how much mileage he has on his car and no issue with his ride despite the oil dilutuion in his car. Finally, my car, the Si, with 9000 something miles and doing 2000 mile oil changes. Oil dilution probably still exists but I drive it hard and change the oil often. So the issue doesn't stay too long in my car. Overall, what I would honestly do to counter act the oil dilution is change your oil at 2000 or 3000 miles. After seeing a variety of videos of long oil change intervals with different engines, even 5000 miles is considered kind of long. Short oil change intervals would be the better way to go.

I have a 2020 and live in canada (the colder part ) We havent gone for a road trip since covid because we're afraid the car will go into limp mode on a 400 series highway or trans canada highway . Kinda sad considering its a 37,000$ vehicle (taxes/fees included) . We're going to wait until the extended warranty (60 months)is close ending before exploring other models . On the bright side , the re-sale value on my CRV is unbelievably good and I've had all service done on time and at same dealer . Thanks for your channel as it relates to the oil dilution issue , especially considering yours is a 2017 .

Pretty wild to me you get that much of an oil rise at only 200-300 miles. Our new 2023 CR-V has almost 2k miles and the oil level hasn’t moved from full. The oil does smell like gasoline in comparison to my 07 accord’s. Bummer about having to replace the injectors, but wonder at this point if it’s really worth the hassle of worrying about the engine that much. You’re already at 100k. At 100k on my wife’s 2017 ford escape she had significant o burning and we ending up trading it in because we were concerned about coolant intrusion blowing up the engine.
You shouldn’t have to deal with oil dilution, but has there been any reports of people’s engines actually failing from it? Lots of people have over 200k miles on these 1.5l turbos at this point.

I don't think Blackstone Labs is a good place to determine fuel %. I think the fuel % numbers reported by Blackstone is lower than actual fuel %. Since you are past 100k miles, I would use 0W-40 and change oil at 5000 miles or 50% OLM. The formula on Mobil 1 0W-40 is now made to counter LSPI.

I have tried different octanes just to see how much the ignition is retarded. My car needs AKI 94. When I tried the AKI 87 the oil level went up too. I am not sure if the oil level went up on the AKI 89 too since it was a one time experiment on different fuels but the AKI 91 worked Ok. And I use it from time to time without the oil dilution problem. Nevertheless the ignition is retarded by about 5 degrees on the AKI 91 which is uncomfortable for me.
