Great video! I have to clean out one injector on my Mercedes M102 4 cyl but they're not electronically activated as it's mechanical FI. Shouldn't matter that much. I'll give this system a shot tonight. If it doesn't work, injectors for this car are cheap to replace. Thanks!!
Great video! Two questions I have are: (1) wouldn't it be better to connect the positive and then just "pulse" the negative side for two reasons: less spark and also that's how the ECU works is pulsing the ground (or at least I believe that's correct). And (2) wouldn't it be better to back flush first and clear any large debris before the small micron filter instead of trying to push it through the filter? Thanks for taking the time to make the video, excellent job!
@@Turboboob it's designed to pulsate on the negative because it's safer in a car. The entire car is grounded so it's better to run your positives straight and make all your "switching" negative. A classic example is the light in the car activated by door switches.
@@abdulmuqsittofie949 A really fast way of pulsing DC is with a file. Run a cable from the end of a file to the injector. Connect the positive lead directly from the battery to the injector. Then attach a wire with a nail or even an alligator clip to the battery. Then, drag the nail or clip across the file. It will connect on the ridges and disconnect on the low spot between the ridges. So if the file has 50 ridges per inc and you drag the clip or nail across the file at an inch per second, you'll get 50 pulses per second. I do this with other things to create pulsed DC
There are numerous problems one must check when cleaning injectors manually. Leaking. Fuel injectors have individual components - pintles, balls and discs that must be properly sealed while under operating pressure to avoid leaking. Fuel volume. Injectors need to supply the right amount of fuel under operating pressure. Atomization. Fuel needs to be under high pressure and atomized properly to provide optimal combustion. Distribution. The spray pattern of the fuel mixture is extremely important to guarantee safe and efficient combustion.
Use a small Srynge pump tube to connect, It should fit both fuel Injector on pumping side (put the seal on) and Carb spray extension pipe on needle side (Unplug the needle)..
Hi there. Great video. I'm now having a problem with my Honda Accord 1999 EX 2.3L F23A4 engine misfire on all four cylinders (P0300, P0301-04). Once I plugged in the ODB2 scanner into the port, the engine runs fine. Here is what I have done on my car: 1) Ignitions: New spark plugs. Replaced the distribution. 2) Air intake system: I cleaned EGR passage, and EGR valve. 3) O2 sensor reading is always high (0.6-0.8V) indicating engine is running rich. I replaced it with new Denso 02 sensor, the reading is still the same. So I went ahead doing step 4 below; replacing fuel pump and cleaned the fuel injectors. 4) Fuel: Replaced fuel pump. Cleaned the injectors. After I replaced the fuel pump, the engine is having hard time crank. When it runs, the engine just shakes. The misfire symptom will go away once I plugged in the ODB2 scanner in the port. Once I plugged it back in, the misfire symptom came back. I suspect it's the bad ECM, but if ECM is bad it won't be able to run the engine. Seems like some wiring is shorted, but I just couldn't tell where it is. Even my mechanic doesn't know where to start.
An ecm can go bad and still kinda work but if you are saying the scan tool plugged in causes the car to run, that's a known issue you should be able to google and resolve quickly enough.
Nice video. I was able to construct an on board cleaner out of pvc so there's no need to remove the injectors. Only took about 30 minutes to clean the injectors. Before and after performance was like night and day.
yes, it can work very well, but using that method a few times did not fix one of my injectors...sometimes injector filter is full of crap and that can only be fixed by removing injector..best to purchase injector rebuild kit and a new injector if you need to remove...i purchased a rebuilt oem for $20... auto store did not have oem injectors...but for $129 they would order me one...
This is fine for high impedance injectors. If you have low impedance injectors, the high current from being directly connected to the battery can damage them. You can still do this, but you will also need an 8ohm, 20w resistor connected between either the positive or negative of the battery and the injector.
Done something similar in the past but it only works for mildly clogged injectors. If they are truly gummed up, they need to be ultrasonically cleaned which often also includes a back flush, then a test to make sure they still flow as they should. Also the little strainer screen needs to be replaced. If one has an old fuel rail around, an old fuel pump, a bucket, and something to generate pulses (even a 555 timer based circuit, or a Megasquirt and Stim) it's not hard to improvise an automatic cleaning rig.

Thanks for the cool video. I know how much effort goes into creating good video and you have done very well. I like the injector cleaning tool you have made. I made something similar with a medical syringe body and flushed the injector both ways. This was done on an R30 nissan skyline which was a two liter turbo inline six. Car ran much better and was easier to start. Cheers.
240kDatsun nice, interesting idea with the syringe and that there was a noticeable difference with the way your car ran after cleaning the injectors! Thanks for your comment, cheers!
I saw a $27 tester on Amazon that has a box that has the electrical connectors and you can set pulse modes. Also includes adapters to fit different diameter injectors to shoot the cleaner through.
I use a 240 to 12V AC adapter with a diode inline to the positive injector post. In Australia, AC wall power is 60 hz, USA 50 hz, makes a perfect pulse signal similar to how the ecu functions. I recycle my cleaning fluid (once filtered) and use a basic inline fuel pump to provide the pressure. Leave it connected till the spray pattern is nice. Obviously before cleaning replace the filter inside said injector.
I've seen people shove a washer into the end of a 1/2' clear tube shove the straw into the washer hole and fill with a hot glue gun. Saves all the multiple tubes and heat shrink and only one connection. But I like this way to clean them. Thanks
The duct tape adhesive will dissolve and you have a gooey mess with a mess of tape that unraveled. Not a good idea. I remove adhesive using carb cleaner sometimes. His idea with hose is pretty smart.
Excellent knowledge. I think an easier way for the hose is the hose on the injector with the cap on the other end.. and put a small hole to tightly push in the spray straw. Thanks again
We have a Chevy Suburban with about 200,000 miles. At least one of the fuel injectors is bad. We're planning to purchase remanufactured injectors. Would it be a good idea to try cleaning them first or should we just bite the bullet and replace them? Thanks in advance for any advice.
nvm your touching battery terminals connecting a circuit and potentially igniting combustable fumes...good idea thou despite that i cringed the entire time..its best to go buy new ones honestly or replace the one you need theyre are shops that work strictly on fuel injectors and the reco dition then for a quarter the cost of new or you money back guaranteed
Hi Brother Thanks for the useful and very informative video. My Honda CRV 2005 hesitates in the second or third gear. Especially when I decrease the speed from 30 to 20. It feels like a jump back. Any suggestions?
I did pretty much the same thing. Tip : works 10x better if you use much sorter pieces of hose. The one I did only the length of about the first big piece he used.
You can use a file for more rapid pulsing. Run a wire from the battery to a small alligator clip. Then run a wire from the file to the port on the injector Then drag the alligator clip across the file.. As you do this, the clip will connect briefly to the ridges and not be connected on the valleys. So if there are 50 ridges per inch on the file and you drag the clip across the file in one second, you will get 50 pulses per second.
Don't forget protective glasses, it may not seem but there is a bit of a pressure and those connections enjoy breaking free. Don't forget to back flush because that gives a flow from the opposite 'normal' direction. Install the injectors the same day, don't let them stay with that solvent overnight as it contains acetone and that can damage the injector. I use a small 9V battery by the way, plenty enough. Never use acetone or lacquer cleaner.
I just tried this method, and, although it works, I quickly ditched it when I realized that the rubber hose was breaking down & releasing chunks of rubber, most likely due to the combination of the carb cleaner & pushing the injectors in & out of it. Tiny rubber particles were breaking off of the hose & were showing up in the carb cleaner that got sprayed into the cup. Those tiny chunks of hose could definitely get lodged inside the injector body & block it. Ended up doing an ultrasonic cleaning instead, and will probably just order one of those plastic injector-to-spray-can adapters.
Try a syringe I've done this with my Mazda you won't need to use all the tubing and shrink tubes and it will hold more pressure carb cleaner tube goes where the needle goes, you can use super glue around the carb cleaner tube to hold it and you can get small hose camps for the large end of syringe or safety wire. I think it would be better to back flush first so you don't drive any bigger dirt into the injector holes since they are very small. You can get injector overhaul kits from auto stores now so you can pull the small screen from inlet port of injector Kit should have this in it with new O rings but Great video info for cleaning injector's...
There is but they are pricey , I would find and injector at the junk yard for your model and then go to drug store and see if they will sell give you a syringe they looked at me funny when I told them I showdd them a video and they wanted to know how to do it. So always back flush first you dont want to push any dirt into those small holes. You could also go to hardware store look for clear llastic tubing and auto store for small clamps. You'll see that syringe can be cut down and plastic tubing can be pht together.small end of syringe fits the carb cleaner nozzle tight. Once you get a scape injector to look at the idea's come easy to figure out. It did help my mileage which helos the power.
Why not just use a wheel valve from a rim? Drill a small hole in the dust cap and push the red straw through the hole and use black silicone to seal it then remove the inner valve from the tire valve and screw the dust cap on.. the big end of the valve fits tightly over the injector n boom no leaks simple and you’ve built a tool worthy for the tool box..
Hi man. I am not in America. I want to follow your guideline to clean the injectors. BUT I cannot find out any kind of injector cleaner. Can you let me know which solvent could be replaced for ?
Do fuel injectors just use the pressure being supplied, and then the voltage to open and close, or is there a need to reverse polarity or some such thing?
your video saved me from replacing all my injectors. found 2 bad , 1 wouldn't fire the other cleaned and worked great. thank you! saved me $$$$.

Thanks for the video. I didn't do much research before trying and left voltage on the fuel injector for a few minutes while I was doing this and the injector became very warm. It works but now I'm thinking of getting a new one just to be safe.
A good video but instead of all them tubes & shrink wrap just plug one end of large tube (the one that goes on the injector) with a bolt or cork or something and a clip over it then for the spray straw punch a small hole with a sharp spike like a small nail push the straw in & glue it in place. then you have a more compact & cheaper device
+orange12v thanks, I knew there was a better way. lol

Friggin snappy idea, dude! Even easier for my lazy ass!
maybe fill the hole with silicone and then drill a small hole in the solidified silicone to insert the carb cleaner tube
JB Weld
I watched this a long while ago and made this sort of setup but today I have just done a different car so watched again, I had a Wynns Carb / Injection cleaner spray can and it had a larger top on it so a bit of 8mm fuel pipe fitted nicely over it,then onto a bit of blue airline (With a small bit of metal tube inside so I could tighten it up) ,and then the injector. (all clamped on with jubilee clips. Worked a treat. Thanks again
Thank you. I wanted to see/learn if you back flushed and you did. Perfect! A hair dryer works without melting things.
Yep it worked on my Cagiva Raptor 1000 (Suzuki TL1000 V twin engine). I coupled to a variable DC supply started at 5v and the injectors triggered so continued for 20 cycles each, thanks for that, couple carb cleaner to the injectors and pulse them....genius!
I'm definitely buying new injectors
Hahaha😂😂😂😂
lol to much work unnecesary
Way too much work same here
Mine it's 400 for all 6
Spending $400-$800 on new injectors cause you’re too entitled to get your hands dirty? HEARD
Great video! I have to clean out one injector on my Mercedes M102 4 cyl but they're not electronically activated as it's mechanical FI. Shouldn't matter that much. I'll give this system a shot tonight. If it doesn't work, injectors for this car are cheap to replace. Thanks!!
Nice video! One word of caution is that sparks from battery are close to highly volatile carb cleaner.
Commonsense needed
Frank Boyle ain’t you uh bitch I test the spark plug wire to see if it’s hot with my bare finger
Didn't completely solve my issue However it did help with my fuel trim This video is gold thank you so much
Great video!
You are correct about the ecm supplying negative pulse to injector. And backflushing would be best to do first in my mind also.
Tarek BR you can do it however you please. That’s not how the engineers designed it though, just saying.
@@tarstarkusz Genius! Do you think that would be necessary for this though? Is that a better recreation of how the injector is used in the car?
There are numerous problems one must check when cleaning injectors manually.
Leaking. Fuel injectors have individual components - pintles, balls and discs that must be properly sealed while under operating pressure to avoid leaking.
Fuel volume. Injectors need to supply the right amount of fuel under operating pressure.
Atomization. Fuel needs to be under high pressure and atomized properly to provide optimal combustion.
Distribution. The spray pattern of the fuel mixture is extremely important to guarantee safe and efficient combustion.
That was way more work then it needed to be
Seriously 😒
Well what's your idea Einstein??
@@mrorbit2u buy new fuel injectors 🤪
Hahah it totally was. All he needed was the first hose and to fill it with solution.
@@yallawallahalla so where would the pressure come from?
Use a small Srynge pump tube to connect, It should fit both fuel Injector on pumping side (put the seal on) and Carb spray extension pipe on needle side (Unplug the needle)..
Looks fun. I might just go buy a fuel injector and do this all day with compressed air.
😂😂👍
UA-cam sent me here... Thanks for this info... I am getting all new injetors, but will clean my old ones and keep as spares. Thanks again guy.
what if you back flo first then forward to check pattern?
Hi there. Great video. I'm now having a problem with my Honda Accord 1999 EX 2.3L F23A4 engine misfire on all four cylinders (P0300, P0301-04). Once I plugged in the ODB2 scanner into the port, the engine runs fine. Here is what I have done on my car:
1) Ignitions: New spark plugs.
Chris Chong that's where I'm at with this. minus the fuel injector clang cleaning
You probably already fixed this, but if not, I just wanted to say your ECM can go bad and still run the engine.
Huh?? Did you change the oil after?
@@risingstar1309 no, every 5k
yes, it can work very well, but using that method a few times did not fix one of my injectors...sometimes injector filter is full of crap and that can only be fixed by removing injector..best to purchase injector rebuild kit and a new injector if you need to remove...i purchased a rebuilt oem for $20... auto store did not have oem injectors...but for $129 they would order me one...
Best auto diy instructor on UA-cam!!
heat shrink is very easily applied with a blow dryer if you don't have a heat gun, it literally takes seconds.
You are actually a teacher in cleaning the sprays, my dear friend, I wish you continuous success greetings, my dear friend 👌👌👌
Always a pleasure to problems solved by creative people. Thanks for the video.
so does back flushing remove all the deposits from the injectors filter?? thanks for sharing...
Ive got some eBay Chinese plastic tool for 10$ it connects to spray bottle and injector does the same much less hassle

This is fine for high impedance injectors. If you have low impedance injectors, the high current from being directly connected to the battery can damage them. You can still do this, but you will also need an 8ohm, 20w resistor connected between either the positive or negative of the battery and the injector.
Or for those how dont know how to solder: get a lab power supply which can limit the current
+aaroncake Hey Aaron, fancy seeing you around on a random youtube video! How's the cosmo?
***** Occasionally I find the time to watch a few UA-cam videos now and again.:-) The Cosmo is coming, slowly, in between getting the new house to some state of livable and the new shop to some state of functional. Home ownership seems to be a time/money pit.
too complicated haha
This is a nice tutorial and I can keep the little hose tucked away for another day
Thanks for the cool video.
Also includes adapters to fit different diameter injectors to shoot the cleaner through.
do you reverse the polarity to back flush?
drpepper03
no
Bro, your video is solid gold! Thank you for making it and sharing your knowledge with everyone. You are a gentleman sir.
God Bless.
Simple inexpensive solution and nicely presented. Well Done!
I would like to see what a clogged one shoots like
I've seen people shove a washer into the end of a 1/2' clear tube shove the straw into the washer hole and fill with a hot glue gun. Saves all the multiple tubes and heat shrink and only one connection. But I like this way to clean them. Thanks
Just Wrap the tube in duct tape til it fits in the hole😂
Be careful that you don’t expose any of the tape glue to the cleaner and force the softened glue into the injectors
That's what she said.
@@j.b.9895 How would that logically happen with tape around the OUTSIDE of the straw?... Please elaborate...
Yes he just wants to be a movie star the twat
The duct tape adhesive will dissolve and you have a gooey mess with a mess of tape that unraveled. Not a good idea. I remove adhesive using carb cleaner sometimes. His idea with hose is pretty smart.
I think your adapter is overkill but the overall setup is genius. Thanks for sharing
I appreciate your help man, keep the hard work up 💪🏽🙏🏽
Do you think berrymans B12 carb cleaner is too strong for spraying through an injector cleaning like you did??
This video is friggin AWESOME!!!! Dude, you just saved me some big time cash!!!
right? gonna try this before i go and buy injectors...at 100 a pop...wholesale price...rip wallet.
because some of us have vehicles with over 220,000 miles with the original injectors
Excellent knowledge. I think an easier way for the hose is the hose on the injector with the cap on the other end.. and put a small hole to tightly push in the spray straw.
Thanks again
Great! Nice editing, short and to the point. thanks!

Use a tire stem, they fit perfectly.

How cool! You're using a Series III XJ and I'm watching this to perform the same on my XJ40! Fantastic. Keep those Jags putting.
I’ve been a mechanic for over 20 years, i think i’ve replaced like 4 failed injectors in that time.
Never understood what the deal with cleaning them.
On my dirtbikes the injectors get a little clogged after a 100hrs or so of riding and the bike bogs if u blip the throttle fast
Thanks for the tip and you should delete the haters out there.

Hi Brother
Thanks for the useful and very informative video. My Honda CRV 2005 hesitates in the second or third gear. Especially when I decrease the speed from 30 to 20. It feels like a jump back. Any suggestions?

Great job I have a misfire and checked everything from spark plugs to coils last resort is a clogged injector will clean it tomorrow

Thumbs up for such an awesome video! And the awesome Zelda shirt!
I did pretty much the same thing. Tip : works 10x better if you use much sorter pieces of hose. The one I did only the length of about the first big piece he used.
I think you could have used longer tubing..

Nice!!!👍 does it matter were the wires of were on the injectors
i try this mathode and set the house on fire
You can use a file for more rapid pulsing. Run a wire from the battery to a small alligator clip. Then run a wire from the file to the port on the injector Then drag the alligator clip across the file.. As you do this, the clip will connect briefly to the ridges and not be connected on the valleys.
So if there are 50 ridges per inch on the file and you drag the clip across the file in one second, you will get 50 pulses per second.
I feel like u doing way to much😂😂🤣🤣
I was hoping his tubing was going to be 50ft long
Videos very helpful but now I am getting a reading indicating an open 4 cylinder. What is that and how do I fix?
Remember to ALWAYS replace the old O-rings with new ones when reinstalling the injectors. NEVER reuse the old O-rings!
That’s very good advice. Have em ready to swap before hand or you’ll be wishing you did later when one or all starts leaking.
No
Can we connect battery Negative and positive charge terminals to injector randomly. Does injector will work or it blow off ?? Please do reply
Genius! This homemade tool is a big savings compared to the JetClean Plus Device #5118 which costs more than $500.
This Guy knows his stuff 👍👍👍
I just tried this method, and, although it works, I quickly ditched it when I realized that the rubber hose was breaking down & releasing chunks of rubber, most likely due to the combination of the carb cleaner & pushing the injectors in & out of it. Tiny rubber particles were breaking off of the hose & were showing up in the carb cleaner that got sprayed into the cup. Those tiny chunks of hose could definitely get lodged inside the injector body & block it. Ended up doing an ultrasonic cleaning instead, and will probably just order one of those plastic injector-to-spray-can adapters.
Wow I didn't know this could be done by the home mechanic! Using heat shrink too!!
Can I clean the piezo injectors by this method? Piezo injectors should be supplied with 100v~200v, so 12v would not be possible?
Are there overhaul kits for all injectors? 98 ram 1500 5.2??? I think cleaning would give me more power???? Right????
There is but they are pricey , I would find and injector at the junk yard for your model and then go to drug store and see if they will sell give you a syringe they looked at me funny when I told them I showdd them a video and they wanted to know how to do it. So always back flush first you dont want to push any dirt into those small holes. You could also go to hardware store look for clear llastic tubing and auto store for small clamps. You'll see that syringe can be cut down and plastic tubing can be pht together.small end of syringe fits the carb cleaner nozzle tight. Once you get a scape injector to look at the idea's come easy to figure out. It did help my mileage which helos the power.
i usually add fuel an injector cleaner if i need to i use this tip very nice thinking thank you!
Would it make sense to backflush it first to clean out any trapped deposits?
Does polarity matter? What side of injector is positive?
All it is, is just a solenoid to open and close. Doesn't matter as long as it gets power to open the solenoid
Can i use a little 9v battery for this one? Like one of those duracel ones
Do fuel injectors just use the pressure being supplied, and then the voltage to open and close, or is there a need to reverse polarity or some such thing?
