    I have a 01 Ram 1500 5.2L 5 speed and am going through a similar situation. When I regeared my rear end, I forgot to put the speed ring on the carrier like a bone head. Both the speedometer and odometer quit working. I drove the truck like this for about 6 months. When ever I came to a stop and pressed in the clutch, it would die. I guess Mopar engineers didn't want people just simply unplugging the rear speed sensor on the axle and driving and not putting any miles on the odometer. I had a rebuilt engine put in the truck during this time. The mechanic that installed the engine was dumbfounded when he took it on a test drive and it was dying at stops. Instead of calling me, he put in a new IACV and when it still was dying, he used his diagnostic tool to adjust the IACV setpoints. Truck still did it and he gave up. Within a month of getting the truck back I had the time to pull apart the rear end and put that speed sensing ring on the carrier. First test drive, code cleared, and no more dying at stop signs. Only problem now is on cold starts I get hissing out of the IACV hole on the throttle body and she runs rough. After a few minutes it settles out. I'm going to try a "throttle body relearn" to undo what he did and if that doesn't fix it, new O2 sensors. Those two seem to be common culprits

      Interesting. I’ve got a whole video series on this truck, I’ve tried everything I can’t think of and it’s better but it still isn’t perfect. I’ll probably post a video soon of a compression test. I wonder if I’ve got a cylinder or two low on compression. Thanks for watching!

    Notorious for leak at intake manifold plenum gasket. if you look down the throttle body and see oil, it's a good indication the manifold is leaking by. Hughes engines sells a kit, for around a $140 U.S.

      I had redone the intake plenum with a Hughes engine kit about 6 months prior to when this video was put up. Didn’t help at all unfortunately! Haha

    I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2... it did the same thing. Changed out all sensors on the thottle body with after market parts. The problem went away when I put on OE idle air control valve part (mopar).

    Keep on looking for Shelbys. They're out there for sure. Little more info - They made "Shelby" Chargers with 2.2 Turbos in 1985, 1986 AND 1987. Additionally they had the actual GLHS in 1987. Story goes that Shelby bought the last 1000 Chargers for the 1987 model year and those became the numbered cars, the 1000 GLHS Chargers. I actually own both a 1987 GLHS and a 1987 Shelby Charger. Both have the 2.2 Turbo, but the GLHS has the "Turbo II" setup which wasn't introduced until the 1988 model year in the Daytona.

    did you check the IAT(Intake Air Temp sensor)? My 97 5.2 was idling rough in the mornings for about 30 seconds and the levels out and runs great for the rest of the day. Replaced everything like you did with no change. Changed the IAT sensor and it runs better in the morning. not perfect...but better.

    Not sure if you got it fixed or not chased idling issues for months on my 99, would cam out per say and die randomly at idle all new sensors. If you havn't changed the belly pan gasket on plenumn its leaking and fouling no.8 plug. And for the idle fix, 2nd gens don't read bosch 02 sensors, needs to be ntk or denso upstream, and if you dont have a cat in it bosch downstream, and it'll never throw a cel. Verified on multiple trucks.

    For my 1996 with 5.9 it was the throttle position sensor causing the truck to die after letting off the accelerator.

      Thanks for watching! This video was from about a year ago, I’ve replaced or tested every sensor in the dang thing at this point. Removing the cat when I did an exhaust seemed to make a little difference. It’s only an intermittent issue now. Really weird one, only thing I can think is maybe a cylinder or two are a bit low on compression. For now I’m just living with it!

    • @roostercockburn690

      @@TheMoparGarage I needed to reset my throttle position sensor recently after an extended time with the negative battery cable removed. I turned the key to the on position without starting the engine, pressed the accelerator slowly all the way down and slowly let it up three times. Then I turned the key to the off position. I then started the engine and let it idle a few minutes. I shut it off and restarted again. I took it for a drive and all was good again.
      I'm not saying it will fix yours, but it's easy and free to try.

      @@mulletsquirrel the new fuel pump made the biggest positive difference. It only seems to do it once in a while now. Just a very weird issue with no obvious solution. • @TheMoparGarage
      @TheMoparGarage  Рік тому +1

      @@gabeedwards8221 all of the V8 magnums, 5.2 or 5.9, are known for the intake plenum gaskets going bad. This causes oil to get up into the intake from the valley of the engine. The truck will start to burn oil pretty bad which will plug up the o2 sensor. If I had to bet, that’s likely the issue. Hughes engines makes an awesome kit to re-do the plenum gasket with a nice aluminum plenum plate, which takes the place of the thin steel plate that comes stock. I installed the kit on this truck and a few others I’ve had, it’s probably about a 3-4 hour job. There’s a really nice series on UA-cam about how to do it.
