  • 5.7 hemi engine running rough and hesitating on acceleration. My gut instinct was to check the throttle body but it turned out to be something completely different. #hemi #ram #throttlebody #airchargesensor

    ****CHECK THE FUEL PUMP***
    I just had this problem. I got the scanner and read the data nothing out of the ordinary. I did the sparkplugs, oil sensor , temp sensor thermostat and coil packs and started running Lucas even a higher grade fuel which minimized the hesitation and occasional no start. My MPGS dropped HARD I was getting 13mpg on a good day and 17 on the highway and hesitation at idle just slightly and would occasionally accelerate on its own. This went on for 2 1/2 years and I thought it was an electrical problem or tipm . For some time I even thought the torque converter was going to be the issue I even purchased it to install.
    The fuel filter and regulator are integrated into the pump. Unfortunately I got stranded in Mexico and couldn’t get it to turn on a week ago. I towed it home replaced the pump and nothing else! My idle hesitations, self accelerations, rich smell from the exhaust , loss of power, and MDS rattle have all gone away. My MPG in the City is back to 20-25mpg. The truck runs like an actual hemi again and have my power on demand.

    Great video. I replaced mine today, found out that who ever makes this sensor ran a batch with the thermister in it installed backwards. Apparently, these have to be installed in the right direction. It threw me for a loop when the p0013 code came back. Switched the wires to the sensor connector and it worked. Wondering how many bad sensors are out there or have been returned when a new sensor doesn’t do the trick because of this.

    So what direction should it be facing? It just spins in the rubber intake tube, is it inline or across so the air goes through the center across the blue part?

    • @greasebellygarage
      @greasebellygarage  3 місяці тому +1

      Shouldn't hurt anything to spin. But I would wrap some electrical tape around it and place the sensor with the broad part perpendicular to the air stream. Like a kite in the wind if that makes sense.

      I’ve been having the same problem and been throwing parts at is ( all new plugs, changed coil pack on cylinder 7 where the scanner says is a misfire, new fuel injector on that cylinder as well. Also put a new air filter in it, added some shudder fix to the trans since its tough to tell if it’s the engine or trans. I put a new camshaft position sensor in it yesterday and that also didn’t help.
      don’t know what else to do but it’s getting worse. I posted a video on my channel a couple days ago showing what it doing but haven’t gotten any new suggestions on where to go with it next.
      Note that it it pretty much idles no problem. Every once in a while I come to a red light and the idle will get a little rough for a second or two but it rarely happens.

      My next step however, as someone suggested to me on another video, to take the valve covers off and have someone crank the engine over a couple times and watch the rocker arms and valves for any noticeable difference with any of the them compared to the rest. They said to look for a stuck valve, or one that is not moving as much as the other rockers. Once guy said he was having a similar issue and said when he was removing the valve covers he found a rocker arm just laying there on the bottom because the rocker bolt stripped out

      Make sure your throttle body or air valve is clean and replace that temperature sensor like I did in the video and also make sure your battery terminals are good and tight. Sometimes they are faulty and they work themselves loose and they cause weird things to happen.

    • @greasebellygarage
      @greasebellygarage  10 місяців тому

      @@William76850 acceleration during braking is a very strange problem. If you have floor mats, take them out and see if it does it. The only time my truck ever accelerated while breaking was when the all weather format got jammed on the gas pedal at a funny angle. The knocking noise on my truck never went away but it did get better with different brands of gas or if I put 93 in it it wouldn't knock at all. 7-Eleven gas made it knock like crazy for whatever reason. Check your floor mats and check your sensor and see what happens.
