It's good that alpha males like Tim and Jocko can reach out to other men living with the daily nightmare of depression and pull them back from it. Too many of us think talking about it is a cardinal sin of weakness and die needlessly. Your brothers are there for you gentlemen.
Having the three goals is important. I ended up focusing so much on my job that it would get me down when I had a bad quarter or day. If I then finish work and run a PB 10k or even finish a 10k that weight is lifted
Wish jocko would have me on his podcast to talk about this subject and my experiences that could help other suicidal people. More combat veterans are killing themselves at an alarming rate. No one in the VA or mental health field seem to understand what a suicidal person is going through or willing to help
The scariest part about suicide is the fact that you truly think it would be less painful than being alive. On top of that, the people who tell everyone may actually be depressed but are unlikely to kill themselves, they are searching for help (which is a good thing for them) but the people who stay in private with their thoughts and plans and do not tell anyone, are more likely to commit the act.
If you study great men, you’ll notice this pattern: they have usually suffered extreme sufferings. Abandonment, imprisonment, persecution, injury, illness, torture, and/or mental illness. Suffering must be a valuable commodity or this would not be so. I really hope everyone suffering knows not only are they not alone, but if they endure they will discover suffering can be some of the most meaningful improvement you ever run across. You are not a burden at these times, you are a gift to humankind in the making.
My heart is fragmented because on the one side I want to be like those guys, but on the other, I really like my hair. Is it OK to be a Tim Ferris and Jocko fan without shaving my head? All suggestions are welcome.
I am very empathetic to Tim Ferriss. I have had times where I have had to fight my demons so to speak. But I am here and willing to work through this. Thanks for this video and I am glad this is out for people to really understand what suicide is about.

This is going to be awesome!
This is sooo GREAT!! Much needed!
So true about swimming. There are infinite ways to keep it interesting and challenge yourself
"Which all Humans do is, oh you're gonna throw yourself at me? I don't need you" This is so true it's scary.
Scary?
Lol
It's good that alpha males like Tim and Jocko can reach out to other men living with the daily nightmare of depression and pull them back from it.
Too many of us think talking about it is a cardinal sin of weakness and die needlessly.
Your brothers are there for you gentlemen.
Such a wealth of wisdom from both, my time was well invested, thanks
Someone needs to make a compilation of all the times Jocko says "Facebookie"
This is a great episode, Just what everyone needs.
Thank you so much for this Jocko, Echo and Tim!
sh!t got deep at 1:27:00 ... the eyes squint in curiosity as he impulsively interjects, "Whaddya train chickens... to do?" Love the channel Jocko!
Jocko,
To be. I had no idea that’s what it was about. Excellent reading - and explanation. I will now subscribe!
That diversifying yourself stuff was earth shattering. I can't believe i have never thought about that
Great reminders and analogies guys much appreciated thanks for the reality check 👍🏼🗝🎨
Having the three goals is important. I ended up focusing so much on my job that it would get me down when I had a bad quarter or day. If I then finish work and run a PB 10k or even finish a 10k that weight is lifted
I have a Stoic Wisdom app on my phone. Most of the daily quotes are memorable and applicable. Seneca and Scipio were and are exemplary.
Wish jocko would have me on his podcast to talk about this subject and my experiences that could help other suicidal people. More combat veterans are killing themselves at an alarming rate. No one in the VA or mental health field seem to understand what a suicidal person is going through or willing to help
The gems I've found were forged in the struggle
The scariest part about suicide is the fact that you truly think it would be less painful than being alive. On top of that, the people who tell everyone may actually be depressed but are unlikely to kill themselves, they are searching for help (which is a good thing for them) but the people who stay in private with their thoughts and plans and do not tell anyone, are more likely to commit the act.
please make this a regular thing TIM Ferriss.
this video is my BABE
[ i need please ]
If you study great men, you’ll notice this pattern: they have usually suffered extreme sufferings. Abandonment, imprisonment, persecution, injury, illness, torture, and/or mental illness. Suffering must be a valuable commodity or this would not be so. I really hope everyone suffering knows not only are they not alone, but if they endure they will discover suffering can be some of the most meaningful improvement you ever run across. You are not a burden at these times, you are a gift to humankind in the making.
That was some strong stuff. I didn't think Tim went through something like that.
I'm definitely following you Jocko!
What could be more pure than Jocko reading and explaining William Shakespeare ?
This came on the right time for me
My heart is fragmented because on the one side I want to be like those guys, but on the other, I really like my hair.
TIM: I can learn things well. Like polo, parasailing, golf, skeet shooting, surfing, rowing...
2024 is here. this doesnt get old. value is strong as steel.
