It is refreshing to watch Ben interview his guests. He doesn't interrupt them, usually follow-ups with excellent questions and keeps it short at the same time. I don't think he gets enough appreciation for being an awesome interviewer.

He was really good in this one because he seemed to have a stake. I respect Jocko a lot. He reminds me of another veteran that changed my life. I always wanted to serve my country and i felt the only way was the military. Only problem was i was born with severe Pectus Excavatum and despite my attempts to play it off, hide it, or undermine it I received a stern NO THANKS from every branch of the military because of it. But in the time i spent talking to recruiters i met one at the Army recruiting office that felt bad for me. He took me under his wing and showed me all the ways i could serve my country without being in the military. He taught me that theres more to being a patriot than the armed forces. because of him i went to college and got a masters in Psychology. Today I work for the Veterans Association providing counseling and therapy to those suffering from PTSD. I owe everything to our service members and Jocko is one of the ones inspiring people like me.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Granted a decent percentage the entry level grunts are actually that dumb, but the experienced ones and the leadership aren’t the macho Rambos that know nothing about life besides point and shoot.

    1. Leadership is made or born? Both!
    2. Their are some people that cannot become leaders because of ego and lack of humility
    3. OJT - on job training
    4. Leadership = ownership
    5. Ask, what you can do to improve yourself?
    6. As a leader you have to balance. Dont go too far in one direction be balanced
    7. Surround yourself with good people that compliment your area where you are weak.
    8. All human beings are completely different and yet all human beings are kind of same.
    9. The better you understand human nature, the better you lead people!
    10. If your leadership is bad or weak, step in and lead but dont step on his tows (never outshine the master) and build relationship with him/her.
Thank you very much JOCKO WILLINK 🔥

Jocko talks good ol common sense coupled with a well thought out process quite similar to CDT ( cognitive dissidence training or therapy ) . Much of what he says about owning your stuff, finding your strong points, examining your weak points with humility, and using your ego to your advantage, is taught that way. Much of what he's saying isn't new, BUT he's saying to people that have never heard this kind of thing before, never experienced leadership on that level. And it builds that self confidence that some people just don't have naturally. It also builds character and inspires continued learning, both about yourself, as well as other people. Once that light bulb has been lit in 1's mind, they will continue on this thought process path throughout the rest of their lives. Seen it happen, and I humbly say it happened to me. Slackers become doers, Introverts become achievers with good social lives. People that couldn't help themselves, now help others. Great show! Great topic. Great guest!
