I tried a 3 day fast for my first long fast and ended up doing 7.5 days. Two weeks later I did a 3 day. The weight loss was so motivational to keep going with more Keto and another 7.5 day fast 3 months later. Lost a total of 40 lbs (196 to 156lbs 49 year old male.)

Hi , I've been doing a 24 hour fast for the last 15 years , I actually had no idea of the health benefits, I basically did this because I felt great , even though everyone around me would say how unhealthy it was, I didn't care about opinions because my body transformed and I had so much energy throughout the day considering I'm extremely active at work , I would always wonder how being so active, not eating and only drinking water would make me feel so incredibly healthy , I'm 54 years old and feel healthier now than I did in my 30's!! It's great to see the health benefits that are connected to this way of life !!

I started with 16:8 Intermittent Fasting (IF) for a week followed by 24 hours fasting on the eighth day. Next week repeat of 16:8 IF for a week followed by 36 hours fasting on the 16th day. Continued 16:8 IF for another week performed 72hours water fasting on 25th day. I was feeling great after 72 hours (3 days), so wanted to continue for 5 days..and did it fir 5 days...was feeling even great so continued for 7 days...was fit and fine..so wanted to continue for 10 days..but wife was getting mad ( too concerned) at me...so stopped after 7½ days. During all this time I lost around 9 kilos..now back on 16:8 IF.... going great from past 6 weeks... now am 72kgs from 81kgs ...my goal is 64 to 66kg....more than weight loss...i want to enjoy good health..and eating healthy foods..stopped all the refined sugars and junk...wish to continue with 16:8 IF which suits me very well for the rest of my life.
Every week one day 24 hours fasting.
Every 3 months 3 days water fasting.
Every 6 months once 10 days water fasting is my schedule.
In Ayurveda they say "Langanam Parama Aushadam" means "Fasting is the Super Medicine"
    Thanks Dr Mindy.

I'm at 18hours window for 3 days now, I was told I was diabetic about 3 years ago I refused to take metformin and decided to work on my diet and exercise plus I've hypothyroidism. There are days I feel my sugar is out of place I just do the basics I know as a nurse, the first 2 days of intermittent fasting I felt like I was going to pass out but still went ahead I fast walk/jogging for 6 miles. I know in my heart I will get rid of diabetes and eventually stop taking synthroid which I've been on for almost 20 years, in my early 40s and I see me very healthy already. Thanks for the video Dr. Mindy.

I went from Dec 13 to March 31 with electrolytes and two meals for the holidays. I watched myself carefully though and went from a size 14 to a 4. I was shocked at the mental clarity and the energy I had during that extended fast. The Doc who was coaching me had me eat 5 carbs a day to keep the ketones at a good spot, for me, for such a long fast. I went down a size every ten days and it was so cool to see the change weekly. I have since gained the weight back after 20 years of no fasting. Since I have found Dr. Mindy, I have been up to 40 hours once a week and do 24 hours. All this and I take the weekend off because I want fasting to be a lifestyle. Thank you so much Dr. Mindy for sharing your knowledge to help anyone who is interested. Your generosity is so very appreciated!

Thanks Dr Mindy, I completely agree:
I recommend: one meal a day which is fantastic
I list my diet particulars which I developed over the years
    > only zero lactose coffee for breakfast which I freshly brew at home
    > mix diet mid day meal:
usually some beef or fish or turkey lightly cooked/poached with clarified butter together with
with steamed 2,3 veg: potatoes, beetroot, carrots, parsnips, broccoli, cauliflower or celery etc ...
(or) I might have a big mix salad instead with some fish, steamed veg, kale, spinach, olive oil (Mediterranean style)
    > shortly after the meal which is usually an hour after, I have one piece of fruit: apple, pear or some berries
    My diet has:
no gluten, no pasta, no bread, no sugar, no chocolate, no deserts, no buns, no cheese, no vine, no beer, no pizza,
no cereal, no coloured drinks, no excessive spices, no eating out, no takeaways, no ready made meal deliveries,
no snacking, no additional meals, no processed meats, no delicatessen offers, no sushi, no raw fish
This "avoid" list is important because it risks less of hidden allergy which I am not aware of and I do not want to incorporate in my diet
    I drink mineral\spring water and tea throughout a day as I need it;
The way I brew my tea is this: I use only loose tea leaves which I brew first and I use squeezed lemon just before drinking it; No tea bags
Infrequently, say once a week: I might have some nuts, 75%-90% chocolate, banana or sweet fruit. That is only on my treat day
Shopping is done weekly to avoid food storing and little is frozen.
You buy 7 pieces of fruit of your choice and you pre plan your meals upfront for protein and veg steaming is done as you go
Nowadays, I feel very well which reduces my vascular inflammation. I hope to get rid of it.
My goal is to get healthier and eventually remain healthy with no steroid medication and no immunosuppressant tablets.
My BMI will be below 25 .
I have been loosing about 1-2 kg a week and about 1cm from my waist.
I do not exercise except for walking about 3-4km a day.
Living life has become very cheap and very energetic for me (early '50ies).
Meal preparation is very easy with this diet because you only prepare one meal a day .
Your family can also join you if they wish; this is a great option to have

the most important point is the last meal=if you already do keto and you are adaptded and also do OMAD
as last meal VERY HIGH FAT, and the right fats:
-macadamias (RICH IN OMEGA7 & also good amount of omega9)
    -omega3 (food or supp)
-pre&probiotic (best foods would be asparagus with sauerkraut and red onions, NO OTHER VEGGIES because these 3 are very low carb and full of benefical nutrients not only pro&prebiotics (rich in sulfur, helps glutathion etc.) except avocado if you can digest them for pottasium)
-good amount of protein (ground beef)
-nutrient dense food (eggs or beefliver would be best)
    - gras fed butter to cook with & gras fed cheese

Water fasting max for me has been 36 hours. I get some rest from that but, I get nervous going beyond. I think it’s because of work. I am a nurse and we constantly have food around. I can avoid it all with no problem now. Since I deal with lives on a daily basis I get worried about my ability to function properly in an emergency situation at work. I am in the cardiac Cath Lab.

@@trueblue1359 Keep at it. Push through. I started with IF with a window of eating between 1 and 4 pm. Have I at times eaten at 7pm? Yes. I try to avoid it. Then, I get back up and keep moving forward. I eat ZERO fruit, ZERO grains. I was once a vegetarian and then moved to being Vegan (but the no junk food kind at all) with my ex GF. Never again veganism. I used to eat millet, quinoa like it was going out of style. When I break my fast (and when you are there, be careful how you break it), the first few days will be with FAT. A handful of protein and vegetables. Believe me you can do it. Avoid outside influences. At the end of the day, it all boils down to one person. Guess who that one person is? You! Keep Moving, Stay Mentally Strong amd Push Forward daily.

@LordStanley true true... interesting. I think I am the opposite - i have always craved good carbs and have felt and performed very well on them (I am very active and lean). However, I can’t dispute that I am finding fasting tough and am not achieving the sorts of times you are, which I think is very much down to your high fat intake. I will give it a go! :)
If it’s not too much trouble, could you give me an example of a meal or two? I just can’t picture how I would get the fat that high?

Thank you Dr Mindy & staff, This is a great video. I eat one meal a day...but, just started a longer water fast (we'll see how long) but, so far 24 hrs. So this is excellent timing to motivate me to go longer.
I would love for you Dr Mindy, to touch on doing parasite cleanse before starting water fasting. It’s quite shocking what you have in your body that might be hindering weight loss and/or good health. Cleaning your system out really does need to be done. I think this is a lost medical procedure now a days. In the old days this was part of doctors protocols. And it think it is part of the reason why people do not feel well.
There are many natural parasite elimination ways including oil of oregano soft gels (walmart for about $7 works well located in the vitamin section of the store) which really does work. I have seen also on you tube that eating a cup or two of shredded coconut (store bought) followed by doing milk/honey mixture (I think that is how you do it) works excellent, have not tried this method. Just do some search on you tube and books. Check with your doctor before using anything especially if you are on Rx. The die off of parasites can be strong this is why it’s important to talk to your doctor first. Or if Dr Mindy does a video on the subject take her advise.
Also, I find using “Traditional Medicine smooth move tea” before the water fast & during really does clean out your gut & body of toxin (not parasites unless you are using a parasite detox method). This tea you can find in most grocery stores even Walmarts carries it in their tea section for under $4 for a whole box. Read the box some you can use daily. And it’s not a big deal if you have been eating healthy to use this tea (no discomfort & just regular movement). If you have been eating badly & not had a regular movement then maybe you will have some discomfort. Drink lots of water after the tea & this will help move your bowels of toxins. If you dont like the taste of the tea you can put a little honey in it. But, really after drinking it a few times the taste is not so bad.

@@DrMindyPelz thank you. Love your positive attitude in all your incredibly informative videos. Thank you for your hard work & your staffs.
I just want to note that when I was using the oil of oregano gel pill parasite method (which worked the first time but continued for a few weeks took a few weeks off & will now continue again) I also drink the brand name "Traditional medicine smooth move tea” (a few hours later) which helped to move the dead parasites out of the body. I have travelled all over the world & had pets, eat pork (which I have read 90% is contaminated with tape worms which are not killed upon cooking not sure if it was a reliable source), fish have worms, beef, chicken & veggies/vegan diet). it’s still shocking to see what was in the body after doing a parasite cleanse. It explains health issues though.
Thank you again for all of your hard work & spreading such valuable old school medical information to all that have found your wonderful channel. Take care.

Yeah! Im a Nurse and when I discovered your channel and others, I jumped into the fasting/autophagy, fasting/healing model of 17-36,40 and even an 80 hour fast. The caveat is that I did drink black coffee with a pinch of salt at each morning. But wow, I have really been enjoying the physiological benefits! Its really cool and once found we all want more of this 2016 nobel prize winning phenomenon of fasting/autophagy/healing. And, it is awesome that you Mindy walk the talk. : )

Very helpful video. From my own personal initial observation, it seems like you get a lot of the same weight loss benefits from OMAD with keto as you do from a 36 hour fast. I do it 3 to 4 days in a row every week, then on the weekend I do either an 18/6 or 16/8 split, and I eat a lot more to make sure that I’m in an anabolic state at least part of the weekend every week (I don’t want to be in a catabolic state 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, though your situation may differ, so of course you should do what works for you).

I found out quick dry fasting + water everyday or force is a no go. It feela good to run into it naturally. I just completed my 1st 48 fast last night and broke the shit wit pizza fish from captain ds wings from papa john etc. lol it wasnt top quality but i ate all that shif and didnt bloat it felt amazing ; due to listening to my intuition. My goal rn is to completely stop late night eating and move up the scale eating high quality foods. it feels good knowing i dont have to force myself everyday and just fall into it. time will go on , consistenty and dedication will show.
