I'm 75 years old and enjoy robust health.
I eat the Lion Diet (ruminate meat, unrefined salt and water only) and I eat one meal a day (OMAD), which breaks my fast and therefore, technically is breakfast, but in name only.
I also fast on days with the letter "t" (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday).
The fasts last 47 hours as a rule.
I've been at this since 22 February, 2023 (about 8 months).
My doctor is beside himself, horrified and in shock.
    Why?
Because he has lost a good customer.
I am no longer taking any meds, bloodwork is perfect, type 2 diabetes is gone and I've lost nearly 100 pounds, gone from a pant size of 46 to a 35 and feeling like I'm 21 again!
I jump rope and lift free weights for exercise.

I am 51 years old and I have been practicing water fasting (no food and only water) for prolonged periods since I was 22 years old.
Until I was 45 years, I used to fast once a year for periods of 7-18 days. Lately, I have been fasting twice a year for 3-5 days.
The following points are a summary of my experience with fasting
    - I have never felt hungry during my fast. I feel the desire to eat when smelling food or watching others eat, but never felt hungry
    - First two days are the hardest, then I usually experience a spike of energy and good feeling
    - Light excercise is a must on daily bases. I usually walk or garden
    - Food tastes much better after breaking the fast. Your senses of food taste improve in a great way after fasting
Hope the above helps you enjoy fasting and improve your health

    • @CatrachoDNYC
      @CatrachoDNYC 2 роки тому +9

Hal, I am prescribed glipizide and metformin. Always had issues with glipizide because it would drop my levels below 80 and my body would react all types of crazy, cold, shakes, stutter etc. Finally the doc changed the doses from 10 mg glipizide and 1000 mg metformin to half of each. Once I started fasting things changed again because I cut all fruit, sugar, bread and so on so the medication would have the same effect as before even though the doses were lower, I gave up the glipizide first and as I progressed with fasting I replaced the metformin with the berberine. I also supplemented with zinc, vitamin b12, vitamin c, vitamin D, potassium and magnesium. Check your glucose levels constantly, your body might react different depending on how bad or not your diabetes is. I was really doing bad but my body really reacted well to the positive changes.

I did receive chemo but I fasted every 36 hours as well. I truly...truly believe that I'm still here because I changed my diet and fasted.
Now, I eat on Wednesday and Sunday mornings - in which includes anything I want in moderation (no bread, no sugar, no grains).

3 months ago I started to eat once every 24 hours. After first month I was able to water fast for 3-4 days. Now I can easily push it to 7 days with exercise. In this 3 months I lost 20 kg and become visibly younger.
When I eat my one meal a day I eat whatever I like - without sugar and highly processed oils. I cut down on carbs esp. bread and went up with fats.
Never felt better in last 20 years.

That cheat day is holding you back, you gotta be able to swim far from the shore.

Background-over 60, female, diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder (MG). I became overweight after having multiple pregnancies in a short time. I was hungry all of the time, a binge eater, and food was one of the things I lived for. A few years ago, I could not turn over in bed without help, 3 years after diagnosis. This state was culmination of declining over a period of 2 years. Forward to being tired of living like this and quit eating (no water for almost 3 days). After about 5 days (3 dry, 2 water only), I started improving enough that I decided to watch what I ate and start seeing if I could improve my life as it was, rather than giving up. Three years later, I started a slow decline again. I have done 2 short fasts (48-72 hours) and included some supplements and seeing more improvement. Now, I eat OMAD or two within short window (2-6hrs varies, 8hr open rare). The foods I eat are mostly single ingredient foods that I prepare at home, but I have eaten out and just made best choice that I could. Fasting and limiting foods to whole foods (no added sugar, lower carbs, higher protein/fat) has silenced the constant food noise. I can eat like 'normal' people. I also feel better, MG symptoms are better, sleep is better.

Also the most amazing thing is the feeling of you floating not walking and that is because your bowels are really empty, it's like your body has no weight at all; the feeling is awesome!! I wish we could feeling like that al the time it's just beautiful

Now my partner and I don't eat from evening until the following afternoon, and we have one excellent meal a day of clean, nourishing food, plus a bit of fruit and nuts here and there. I am on my 86th hour toward the way on a 185 hour fast - I feel less hungry as I progress - and I’ve lost 5.6 lbs after cheating on the keto diet - i’ve found the key for losing weight is keto + occasionally prolonged fasting especially when hitting a plateau - just fast for 3 days (72 hours) and you’ll break that stall in weight loss - i’ve done this weekly for nearly 30 weeks - and the pounds are dropping off like crazy. I started at 368.0 lbs on April 4th 2023, and as of this morning February 26th 2024 I am 204.4 on my digital scale. A loss of 163.6 lbs in almost 11 months next Monday March 4th 2024.

My legs look rain thin, my loose skin is getting tighter than all the fasting Ive done (still has a way to go though), I can see my blood vessels in my forearms and biceps, I can walk fast like a normal weighted person, I can jog a liitle for a couple minutes without resting, and I can move a whole lot better than a year ago, and I do a lot more things in my home than before.

I have done extensive research on long term water fasting and decided that I am going to do it. There are many genetic mental disorders and health issues in my family and I feel that I can fix my dna by long term water fasting. I have been bone broth fasting for 10 years and for the past month I've been fasting 2 days and eating 2 days in preparation for my 40-50 day water fast. I also did a 3 day dry fast last year and words cannot explain the spiritual experience that I had. So I'm 4 days into my 40-50 day water fast- I'll stop when I feel the time is right. I was lost in the mountains. I couldn't remember how I got there. It seemed like I suddenly woke up. I was extremely hungry and a little weak. I drank water from a spring I found and there was plenty of pine trees and wild onions near the spring. I stuffed my pockets with the wild onions and pine nuts. I found a 2 liter soda bottle near there and I filled it up and headed out. Fortunately I knew enough about outdoor survival and after a few minutes of walking I knew about where I was. I made it to an outdoor supply store that was approx. 7 miles away. Later on when I was examined by the doctor I told him what happened and I couldn't remember anything until it felt like I woke up and realized where I was. I told him the last thing I remembered. I had been in the woods for 5 days! I guess I survived eating the pine nuts and wild onions for several days but I don't remember that either. My dad had passed away recently and the doctor said I probably had a case of Delayed Post Traumatic Amnesia and my dad's passing was the cause. I'm glad it was in the late spring and not in winter.

I started with 12 hr fasts each day and I was running six miles a day with several light weight workouts. Today I am running 16-18 miles a day (two runs a day) and weights every other day. I fast 20 hrs a day from 630 pm to 230 pm the next day. I have dropped to just under 130 pounds. I ran a 5 K race last month and won the Masters National Championship for my age with a 17:31. I attribute that in part to the fasting which has greatly contrbuted to my fitness level. I highly recommend giving this a try but I would also ease into it like I did and not just jump into longer fasts. I plan on doing a 3 day fast now in July and another next January. Given my workout load I am concerned about going longer than that....

One thing i did as was advised by my oncologist after the oprations is to eat "clean" no processed foods but more veggies and proteins small amount of carbs (50 grms of pasta or rice w/in the day) and the rest of what you're advising. Very interesting your fasting lectures and would try a bit of this. I'm lucky here in Italy there is abundance of olive oil but i always choose the best cold pressed not filtered 100% italiano

My dad passed away aged 95 yrs. He never got sick in his life, his death was out of home accident that resulted to brain damage, coming back to food he always eat half plate of food as he said after getting to maturity food was only for sustainability . He drunk strong bitter herbs every morning that boiled through with cow bones and continued to be added, he had two meals at 1pm mostly boiled beans and vegetables and at 19 hrs.
So i never understand the theory of having 5 meals a day. Mum is 92 yrs and my Aunt 101 and they also have similar eating habits. I am happy to have come to your channel

Love that chart at the end. Makes it really clear. I can testify that a 3 day fast ELIMINATED a persistent joint and muscle pain that I was almost ready to accept as a sign of getting older. It’s gone and it has stayed gone months later. That’s what really sold me on fasting. When I say fast, I mean a REAL fast, only bottled spring water. 👍

M - I'm curious, was your joint pain from osteoarthritis?...I've got it in my right hip and left knee with about 20 more pounds than I'd like also. Following Dr. Eric Westman's Keto diet a couple of years ago I (70 yrs old - 6'4" was 240+/-5lbs) got down to 208 for a while and then started finishing off my wife's leftovers...with COVID hibernation I got back up to 240 but have dropped 10lbs again...haven't tried the multi-day fasting routine yet but generally eat only couple of meals in 6 - 8 hours most days.

@@kenswanston820 No. As I say, since it didn’t go away, I was more or less resigned to accepting that it’s part of the aches and pains of getter older. Then when I did my water fast for 3 days, I realized it was gone, that I had full movement again.
3 full days is tough. Best to work up to it. Try one full day. Then 2 days (which is also not easy). And when you can do that, go for 3. I understand that 3 days is the “sweet spot” when all the benefits kick in.
To go another day or two, without supervision, may be pushing it. And of course, don’t expect to go out and do a normal day during the fast. I suggest doing this only when you know you can spend the 3 days at home. 👍
