I've been fasting for 74 hours right now! I wanted to thank you for the chart showing when different benefits kick in. That chart gave me the motivation to pass my previous 50 hour fast record. I've been losing weight like crazy - 45 lbs in just a few months with no loose skin! I started with Dr. Jason Fung and also really love your videos. Happy I found you a few weeks ago! Hi Mindy, I’m new to your channel and have really enjoyed your videos. I’m currently 67 years old and retired, so I have the time to focus on my health. My journey to improve my health started when I was about 50 years old. I weighed about 200lbs and I’m 6’ tall. Believe it or not I thought I was in good shape because I exercised regularly. At that time I visited a new doctor and he flat out told me I was a typical American on the typical American diet. He told me by 60 I would be diabetic, and he wanted to put me on the standard round of pills, cholesterol and high blood pressure. This was unacceptable to me so I started researching how to reverse my health without medications. I totally changed my diet and years later discovered I created my own Mediterranean diet without even knowing it. Well, almost 20 years later I weigh 150lbs and as you say in this video I’m metabolically flexible. I didn’t really know a lot of these terms and the different things like ketosis and autophagy until recently, but now that I do I can work to perfect them all. I believe out of all the doctors, scientists etc. that I’ve listened to on UA-cam you are truly the best. This video puts it all together very nicely. I can’t thank you enough for all to do to improve the health of everyone listening.

Hi I am from you UK. Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Nurse wanted me to lose weight first rather than go onto meds. So kept telling me not to count calories but to count the carbs. And said to get Michael Moseley fast diet books. So doctor's and nurses and coming around to my surprise. 😁
The eat less move more is so infuriating. Esp for postmenopause wt gain😟my dr is a jerk and has no idea. But hes bald so ill tell him ill drop the forty pounds when he grows his hair back😡maybe he’ll get a clue! My body is hanging onto its spare tire,

Dr Mindy, very informative video, as usual, but I do have a question (probably already answered in other videos or as a response to others asking the same thing): how does one activate autophagy? Just water fast? What exactly breaks a fast (I've read so many contradictory information on this one) and stops people to activate autophagy? I'm looking forward to your reply. Help! I am 66 years young have lost 70lbs on Keto and even off of my blood pressure medicine I had been on for 30+ years. When I started Keto in March I jumped in with both feet and into intermittent fasting 16/8 with 2 meals a day...then later I started OMAD still keeping carbs at 12-13g, fat 60% and protein at 30% which averages 50-70 g. I was in ketosis from day 2...I don't use the strips anymore as I kind of know I'm in ketosis because I haven't cheated and I am not hungry or have cravings . The holidays aren't the problem for me...I am going on a Cruise in Feb. ugh there is good food everywhere. I don't ever want to step in that fat suit again....I always tell everyone else remember why you started....but...I will be on this cruise out of my element for a whole week. I can't take my blender to make my big green smoothie ( my smoothie is 6 cups of mixed dark leafy veggies( kale, spinach, swiss chard,bok choy, endive, escarole, dandelions etc) plus a whole cup of avocado...and then I make my baked fish, chicken, beef (4-6oz)I bake the fish and chicken in a scrambled egg mixture and have some asparagus...I am filled up and usually go 20-23 hrs before I eat again...I have the green smoothie everyday but change the protein. I have watched Dr. Mindy's fasting videos so now I know I need to mix it up a little...so that's what I plan to do...I already feel like I am going to fail on the cruise :( The struggle is real. Has anyone else been on a cruise and how did you work it? Thank You so much for an suggestions you can offer. I know I am fat adapted but I have been so strict with myself because I was a grazing carboholic and so I am afraid ....Thanks again!

Eating meats and veggies for the holidays are easy I always start dieting in the winter
Perfect timing! Two weeks in China and need to get back to my keto lifestyle (no more dumplings, rice, noodles and soy in all its forms).
Chinese here, stay away from those carb sources u stated ain't nothing difficult. Me myself won't ever take carbs completed out of my equation, but keep it as low as possible.
Could you tell me how to determine how many calories and macros I should have in a day? Is there a Keto calculator.

So I'm completely lost now. Sooo many people on UA-cam are saying that vegetables fats and oils such as coconut oil, olive oil and avocado are great for Keto. Everything you described says Im a sugar burner but I do all the right things. I definitely trust and believe all the info you put out I just feel like there is something wrong with me and the doctors Im working with literally have told me just eat Cheerios and drink orange juice. My gastro told me skin conditions have nothing to do with your gut.

Doc, will you agree on this:
17 hours of IF is generally seen as sweet spot for wonderful benefits.
But as we all agree often, we all differ vastly. Surely 17 is an average? So is it possible that someone like me (skinny, fast metabolism, low thyroid, not great energy, age50) I am rather say 15 hours (or whatever) vs let's say your 17?

Big fan of body science delivered and distilled so it is easily understood and applied. Thank you! Another question re: fat burners: I live on a healthy 15-17 hr fast on weekdays with usually a 24 fast on Weds. This is every week. However I give myself permission on weekends to have some wine and more carbs than are acceptable on Keto program. This isn’t an occasional weekend or vacation, this every weekend for at least 1 day and 2 drinks.
I love this schedule.
Am I defeating everything I accomplished during the week with fasting, or can I become fat adapted on this weekly schedule? I don’t measure ketones and perhaps I should to help determine the answer?

Hi, I lose weight two years ago with fasting, gained it all since I got distracted in the process (after thinking I had it all under control) and now I am fatter than ever and it seems I can't lose weight with my 16Hr fasting routine as I did when I tried it the first time. How does that instrument measure your ketones? If your trying to lose that last ten to fifteen pounds, how many carbs should you be eating a day and should you vary your fast or just fast for at least 17 hours a day? Thanks Dr. Mindy!
I'm definitely a sugar burner but want to become a fat burner. I heard you can also get into autophagy with exercise? Is fasting more beneficial though or are they the same?

I had mediocre success with OMAD or other time restricting ways of IF.. Low carb how ever worked wonders..
But what really bests everything are the longer fasts.. At least 36hours.. This is almost changing my body because I am not that hungry many days after just one fasting day..
It just shows how effective this stuff is.. Amazing!
