    Great vid what temp you use 👍🏻

    • @ShaneFix
      @ShaneFix  4 роки тому +1

      It just depends on the hot-air station and personal preference. I could start a riot if I list my temps lol. There's a funny battle in the repair community about whether a lower temp for a long period, or a higher temp for a short period are more likely to damage components. I tend to use a higher heat for a short amount of time. The amount of heat I use is also different for each type of work. The Slim board is a lot thinner than the other PS4 and Xbox boards, which are quite thick and require a lot of heat.

      Hello! Did you also make sure the heat sink was cleaned and clear of any blockage? You have to remove the bottom plate under the board to access the heat sink. If that is free and clear, you may have a fan issue as well.

    Any recommendations for a mid(ish) tier soldering station that isn't like $1k+ I've been using the same Weller station since I took my A+ in "99" and haven't kept up with recent brands/advances. TL;DR - I'm tired of doing it old school(heatgun & hoseclamps, ya'll!), but those sexy Hakko combo-stations are out of my price range. Suggestions?

      It's a very common issue (I've done more than I could possibly count) and I don't think I've had one yet that I couldn't fix. The only caveat is if the console has other issues as well. If we repair the connector and it still doesn't power up, that's a whole other issue.

    Our PS4 was on when lightning struck and now the only thing that it will do is the power light will light up blue and it sounds like it's running but the screen is black? What can we do to fix it if it can be fixed?

    • @ShaneFix
      @ShaneFix  3 роки тому

      Lightning strikes/power surges can be tricky as all kinds of circuits tend to fry. However, if you can boot up the console and teh light eventually turns white (wait a good two minutes), then it has a high likelihood of being repairable.

    Can you use 50% IPA for cleaning? Finding IPA at this time has proven to be quite difficult.

    • @ShaneFix
      @ShaneFix  4 роки тому +1

      You can, but I only use ~99%. You'd be surprised how quickly corrosion can form and spread from just a tiny bit of liquid. 99% IPA evaporates very quickly. If we used anything much less than 99%, half our day would be spent waiting for the IPA to dry. Luckily, we were pretty stocked up on IPA before all of this, but we eventually did run out and were able to source more from a medical supply company (can't remember their name). I feel ya though, it's getting hard to source all kinds of stuff right now.

    • @ShaneFix
      @ShaneFix  4 роки тому +1

      @@JayzBeerz It's just a very tight connector. Instead of taking it off the board, you could always just take the other end off the PSU which is harder to rip off. When repaired, it probably won't be as strong since, most of the time, pads are ripped up as well, so it'll rarely be as strong as it was from the factory.
