    I met up with Alex to check out his E60 BMW M5! Find out what it's like to own a V10 M5 with over 120,000 miles...That V10 sounds amazing, its a great sedan to drive, but you all know the reputation this car has. Unfortunately the vehicle developed some issues that meant I couldn't finish the full review of this car, so I hope you enjoy watching this ownership perspective video from someone brave enough/in love with the car enough to own a high mile M5! (The issue ended up being a loose transmission hose, not really the car's fault. In its defense, Alex says it has been running extremely well before he was involved in an accident.)

    🤦‍♂️hi my name is pedro and I’m a e60 M5 owner!! Everything that could go wrong on a car I have experienced with my m5.. will never sell it by this point. Total financial suicide if ur living paycheck to paycheck. SMG unit $3000 used. smg pump $1000 alternator $600 throttle body $500. clutch and flywheel $1000/plus labor SMG solenoids $2500 plus labor/ coil packs $1500/ control arms / bushings/ battery/ positive battery terminal cable/ , those are just the issues I could remember.. probably the worst financial mistake I ever made besides selling most of my bitcoins .. still love the fucking car tho. And that’s the worst part about it. Is like knowing your married the most famous prostitute in town , but u love her tho.. 💔 every time that BMW CHIME comes on.. even if it’s just the seatbelt chimes.. owning this car is like driving a fucking ticking time bomb that of

    I bought 2008 M6 last year. Seems same color as this one inside and out (interlagos blue, white interior + CF) with 57k miles. I put 15k on it so far. No issues, just regular maintenance (new battery, tires, oil changes). I LOVE the SMG! I don't know if the previous owner did something to it, but it's so smooth I rarely even using manual mode during normal driving.
    I had e46 M3 before this one. Much crispier ride. Sharper, more sporty. M6 has more luxury feeling. But when you unleash the beast, it's an absolute thrill.

    I hate how monotone I sound lol but anyways, my personal experience with the car has been worth it up until I wrecked it in December. I got the car back very late the night before the review which is why the seatbelt is dirty. Mostly dust from sanding and some mold from rain getting in. Anyways, if you’re looking to buy one or have any questions, feel free to reach out. In my case having just that 1 (expensive) issue has been worth the ownership! I wouldn’t change a thing. Take care!

    • @AlexGray
      @AlexGray 5 років тому +1

      Of probably at least 70+ M5 owners I’ve met and or spoke to closely with on Instagram, I only know two who have had to replace just one actuator. There is a rebuild kit for $100 and it can be done yourself. I don’t know anyone that has had to replace vanos so I don’t think that is very common however I know the vanos pump is fairly expensive.

    Great video. I have owned a 2009 Sapphire Black Metallic E60 M5 for 3years. I bought it from the second owner with 40K miles and an extended warranty that just ran out this month. The car now has 83K on it and it has been pretty reliable. The alternator died at around 60K miles but it was covered by the warranty so I've only really had to pay for normal maintenance. I love the car and plan to keep it as a daily driver because as mentioned in the video it is a really fun car to drive that is also comfortable and it would be hard to replace it for the money I paid for it.

    I have this car ( 3 years ownership) I use it as a weekend toy only , it’s never let me down because I have it serviced when it needs to be serviced ( Bmw or a specialist Bmw garage) not dodgy Daves back street garage ,
    I had the throttle actuators changed as preventative maintenance (the rod bearings will be next with the vanos line ) ...basically if you want to have this in your collection buy a good one use it as a weekend toy it’s not for commuting that’s for sure , always warm up the engine and gearbox to temperature keeping it below 3k Revs , I’ve had the engine oil analysis completed twice in three years which showed no wear regarding rod bearings etc , always use 10w-60 oil recommended by Bmw and regarding high mileage these engines will go for years if maintained properly but if the car is revved to death every day of course it won’t last long all in all it’s a fantastic car and has started to go up in price here in the U.K. .....PS: don’t listen to the armchair scaremongers as most have never owned or even driven one ....the one I have is an LCI ( btw LCI started late 2007 which is what I have and the ones to go for ) ..happy driving ladies and gentlemen 🇬🇧😎👍

      Same here E90M3, got it with 57K four years ago, at 127K now, no problems, maintenance is more expensive then a regular car because you do have a real motorsport engine but you knew that beforehand, very solid cars. Any car that sits can develop problems but agree 100% these cars should be driven, most reliable car I ever had in the 35 years i drive.

      Great to hear! I've got a white M6 V10, only has 53k miles on it. I need to drive it more, as I only take it out a couple times a month. Looks pristine totally stock, I've just got other cars that I drive on a daily basis. Too many videos on here knocking the e60 & e63 M cars. In the end paying $2500 to do rod bearings every 100k miles and under $4k for SMG work around that expected mileage, who cares. There is nothing I could find under $40k that matches what these car do for me. Cheers mate

    • @arash_LA
      @arash_LA 5 років тому +1

      Josh Wagner I got my M6 around that milage too. Just make sure you do the oil change every 4-5k max, let the car fully warm up before hard driving( VERY IMPORTANT), and do the rod bearings around 75k to be safe. I paid 1600 dollars to do that. Not bad at all for every 75-100k . And why 4000 dollars for the smg?! The pump is only 350 dollars. You don’t need to replace the entire sms transmission if the pump goes bad. Just recently replaced the clutch and pump ( 95k miles on original clutch which is really reliable I think) and paid only 1400 dollars for everything including clutch and pump and it drives like new again. In case for throttle actuators which usually go bad around 60-80k , You can get remanufactured one for only 400 dollars with lifetime warranty. I just replaced both as for maintenance before they get back. They were both still original and lasted 100k miles for me👍🏻 ! If you know about the car and know where to get the parts for cheap, the car is not that bad at all. Those people who are complaining are those who have no idea about the car and just get ripped off here and there. PM me In case you have any questions. Enjoy your car buddy :)

      jorque d glad you have had a good experience with you M3 so far. I think the problem is that many owners don’t know how to treat these type of cars. I know a guy he got 160k on his m3 and his car looks and drives like new without any serious issues!

    • @ThePhotoForce
      @ThePhotoForce 5 років тому +1

      @@arash_LAThanks so much for the comment and support! Yep I've had smg cars in the past. Current own a Z4 3.0 with smg so I have had my hands in dealing with repairs there but like you said it was pretty much in the timing of when a clutch would need done anyway. Rod bearings were new info to me when I got the M6 so I got a quote from my favorite ATL area shop here for $2400 to do the work. Guess my point in the previous comment is these were once $100+k cars and certainly drive a nice as one. Picking up one for $20k makes the car a no brainer for what you get because preventive maint even budgeting on the high side (worst case situations) still values the car investment well below any of the other cars I was looking at getting. Thanks again!

Get the dealer coder, do the rod bearings and get a manual and 90% of the problems are mitigated. Make sure to use a high quality oil that's has stronger film strength but not as thick as the 10w60 and you'll be fine. Lubrication is the big issue on the S85 and S63.

      @@HB-tf5mv that's the biggest red flag. I would be more comfortable with a 140k miles one owner than 70k 5 owner tbh.
      Shows that they wanted it gone quick.
      And also more miles means that it was compliant in aquiring those miles and will likely easily accept more in the future.
      That's my two cents
      Edit: also avoid first model year!
      Only redemption would be if the car is cosmetically prestine, and you can get the price down to around the 17k mark to have some cushion for repairs/ rod bearing replacement (I assume it has OEM bearings too.)

    As a german... i dont really see the problem. You pay a lot less than you would for a new car and if something breakes you replace it... still cheeper than a new one.
    In Germany some might say: BMW = Bring mich Werkstatt = Bring me workshop, but i really dont mind replacing the heater or what ever breaks on my 2003 E46... i even enjoy it.
    I dont know much about the E60 parts... but if you speak a bit of german i bet that you could find A LOT of videos on youtube on how to fix any problem on your car, just like americas do it with old american cars.
