I’ve had my e60 M5 for 10 years now and will never sell it, it’s
An absolute beast of a car and it still after 10 years puts a smile on my face
what year,are you in aus
Ive had a M6 E63 for 5 years and continue loving it.
@@christianpadilla2928
Are they E60 M5 and E63 M6 more fun and better then E39 M5?
@@mislavkonjik2827 I would say they are better at any perfomance test.E39 is an amazing car ive driven it. Althought a M6 which is the one I know its just far superior even in comfort. Good thing is we are comparing to great cars and with care and knowledge they last.
I also own a e46 m3 so you know..
Thank you, 14yrs with my ‘08 and has been one of the most reliable performance cars I’ve owned. Most the issues with this car and reputation are from the BMW service interval of 15,000 miles between oil service. This was when BMW paid for service under warranty including wear and tear items plus oil changes hence the long oil change intervals. You also had many that never followed correct warm up procedure. My ‘08 all fluids changed annually and with oil changed more frequently but no more than 3k miles. It is sad to see the abuse that many of these cars went through and then the complaints that followed after the abuse.
I’ve owned a V10 M5 and two V10 M6s they are absolutely the best bmw ever built in my opinion. I currently own an F10 M5, and hands down the V10 is a better car by far!
Well V10 shines in some areas, but V8 twin turbo is a torque monster... Did yours have issues like N63?
This is exactly how I feel and I currently own both. The V10 is just so much more special and truly bespoke, the F10 feels like a modified 550i.
Laughs in e39
@@dominiksoukal E39 is wonderful but once you've experienced the S85 the E39 simply doesn't do it for you as much. F1 derived V10 is F1 derived V10 😎
wow! awesome! Is it reliable? if I did the rod bearings?
Yeah I never open my sunroof for the same reason..mine is a 2006 with 215k miles and it still keeps my adrenaline pumping..crazy top end power..
You need to recalibrate sunroof by holding the button. You can release the sunroof button once it has done full sycle. My 330d touring does same from time to time(usually when its not used for a while). Greetings from Finland :)
also clean the rails
When I first bought my F10 it had a similar problem. Crazy how it's been the same fix since the E39 ! Lol had the same issues with my 540i also after a long sit at the mech lol
@@KujezZi Re cal and cleaning didn't work for me...
It's just the balck little flipper in the front, the sun roof hits it and shoots back. i just put my finger and pull it down so they don't meet.
Brother,
I’m waiting for some more videos of your E60 M5! I was sitting on the sidelines on purchasing one. But You and M Tech Guy gave me the push I needed. After searching and searching, I Scored my 06 42k miles E60 M5 from original owner (75 year old gentleman ) car got the VIP treatment by him. He even gave me a 3 year service contract he got for it in 7/20/22. I took a 500+ mile long drive in it. Awesome!!!!
A friend has a 2007 M5 S85 SMG with 360'000km or 230'000 miles and the first rodbearings - the car was always super well maintained.
We recently changed the rodbearings and mainbearings (they are mostly shot after 100k miles, too) and everything was like new.
Truly amazing how good these cars function, when used and maintained properly.
Proper usage: Only long distances, nothing under 50km/30mls.
Maintenance: 5w50 every 6-8tkm or 150h (10w60 only for track usage and or hot climates, in Germany 5w50 is perfect)
That's great to hear, it goes to show what a difference properly maintaining them can do. Just a shame BMW didnt encourage more frequent oil changes from new.
As an owner of a M6 white 2006 for 6 years I agree.
I have a 2008 6-Speed manual with only 108,000 miles on the odometer. I've owned it since 2017. I only drive it during weekends or sometimes to the office. It's the best feeling driving a manual car with a V10. I have done the all of the preventative maintenance to make it "Reliable". I'll be starting soon with the upgrades. Great review and Take care mate.
One of my all time fave cars. Love the e60, would do some questionable things for a V10. Almost 6 years daily driving the 530 only issue has been steering angle sensor, gave it a clean and she's sweet. Oh and I have the same clunk noise in the back and sunroof issue. Nothing major. If anything, the V10 seems like the most solid part. Amazing car!
Just bought one today, being delivered next week. 10 year dream fulfilled and I cannot wait for it to get here.
Your comments on ‘reliability issues’ is spot on…most comes down to poor servicing (cheap parts, incorrect oil spec, long schedules) but mostly just abuse… not allowing the engine and specifically the oil temp to get up to full operating temperature before driving hard and red lining is the main reason for rod bearing issues on most high reving cars (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lamborghini, Ferrari etc)
People think they can treat, beat and generally abuse high reving, high output engines like grandma’s 4 pot. Theres a cost to ownership most either don’t know or accept.
UA-cam makes it worse as everyone think’s bouncing of the rev limit when cold at Cars & Coffee and doing long burn outs is the norm and correct way to own your car 🤦♂️
My E60 & F10 M5’s did massive mileage with out issue but I know how to be mechanically sympathetic and service correctly
Completely agree! Absolutely love mine! Most people who bash on this car have never owned one they just jump on the bandwagon. If you warm the car up properly before thrashing it, change the oil between 7 to 10k you should be fine. Put aside maybe £3 to £4k for preventative maintenance on rod bearings, actuators and Vanos and you should have a joy owning it. Yes newer cars are faster but that's not the point. A tesla would munch most modern day supercars to 60mph that doesn't mean it's a better car. Nothing can match a V10. Great video 👏🏽
Installed qtp exhaust cutouts on my v10 m6 last week. Don't think ill listen to the radio ever again. Dont let the S85 scare you. Buy the car, do the rod bearings, keep track of the oil consumption and enjoy your life.
I’ve used my radio once in 7 months lol
Totally agree,I love my E60 M5!! no major issues after 3 years of ownership.Stock with rear muffler delete is all that's needed.
I had the same issue with the diff when turning, it was serviced by BMW just before I bought it and diff oil had been changed, don't use the BMW oil.same problem after
I personally changed the diff oil. after some research I used Penrite Pro Gear 80w-140 that fixed it. 👍
is it reliable? if I do the rod bearings, will it be sold? Thanks!
They're a magnificent thing. I need one. Rod bearings? Seriously, for those of us who are reasonably handy, it's a weekend every 10+ years...
I still can't believe BMW brought out such a machine. Epic.
The people who are scared of BMW's are those who rely on dealer servicing and repair.
I have a 2006 with about 80K miles on it now. Love this car. Tell me more about the diff. making a clunking sound. I have heard that noise but only while turning at slow speeds. Help.
Have a 2005 e63 M6. Bought the car 12 months ago with rod bearings done. Have had no issues. SMG does take some getting used to but it’s part of the raw experience you get with these car. They need to be driven. Proper warm up essential. Still looks the bollocks in the car park even though it’s 16 years old. Love it.
I own a 2010 I've had it for 3 years it is the single best car I've ever had You are absolutely right every time I get in the car I am thrilled to death on the handling and the speed And overall the sound that it produces I'll never sell this car Point in case guys if something breaks on the car fix it If you can't afford the car sell it Lol that is real M 5 E v
My mate bought the cheapest one in England, £10k. electrical problems means it breaks down on him. Lack of maintenance is probably why. 10k and 500bhp means its gonna have issues. It sounds glorious
Had a chance to buy an m5 for 10k but I passed. horrible clunky smg 2-3 second delay ran like crap only cool thing was the quad tips and sound of the exhuast
Thank you for making this video. It's what made me follow my dream to buy one and with maintenance it's been perfect in every way.
I’ve owned one now for nearly 4 years (late 2007 LCI update ) , I’ve had the throttle actuators changed for upgraded ones including the circuit boards ( this a must because they will fail ) , oil cooler and that’s about it , it’s been fantastic to own as a weekend toy and I cannot see myself selling the vehicle it’s just to much fun and the sound is sublime with the switchable exhaust which sounds like a Lamborghini , I’m at 90,000 miles and have had the oil analysis checks every couple of years which have come back fine with no wear and tear atm , upgrades = carbon fibre air intakes from evolve and the switchable back box delete which is a must , it also has full BMW service history which is what I searched for when I was looking for one of these cars. This is a future classic for sure and prices are on the rise.
PS; remember always warm the engine and gearbox to temperature keeping the revs below 3k in the process this is the secret to longevity of this glorious engine and this is why a lot of these cars have failed regarding the rod bearings. 👍🇬🇧😎
An update on my car , I’ve had the injectors changed recently ( just in case they stay open causing the engine to hydro-lock ) this is another preventative maintenance step which does happen to lots of different makes of car , this happened to guy I know who unfortunately had an M6 V10 which hydro-locked his engine with an estimated bill of 8 to 10k rebuild costs so its a no brainer to spend only £385 on Bosch parts for the job then £240 labour charge to fit 😎👍
is it reliable? if I do the rod bearings, will it be sold? Thanks!
@@Anthony-qh1xv ..if your asking me will it be solid if you have the rod bearings done of course but this depends if the car you purchase has been looked after in the first place by that I mean a full specialist or BMW documented history ….this is a must , avoid the cheap cars that were serviced at Dodgy Daves back street garage for a bullseye using cheap Chinese parts if you know what I mean , I would never purchase one of these cars with missing history either , as long as it’s been maintained I don’t think high mileage is a problem either ( German engineering ) , I don’t advise this car as a daily runner it’s a weekend toy tbh , another point to make is what oil I use which is 10W-60 as recommended by the M mechanic I use ( this is also backed up by previous Mechanic’s that have worked on these cars since they were launched plus BMW themselves ) , their great cars with a few downsides one being driving the car in full auto which is not recommended plus driving through towns and city’s is pointless in one of these no matter what mode your in , it’s made for the open roads this is when the SMG comes to life. 👍🇬🇧
@@groupb5420 Couldn't agree more. The UA-cam 'your indicator's not working' brigade just sat in a circle around the S85. Dearest Sabine would tool around the ring giving it a thorough workout every day, day after day. I dont know why this comment gives me butterflies ! Just so close to obtaining mine and the good news reviews are needed! Lol
@@beemteamkeem do your homework by finding the right car , there’s a lot of M5’s out there now that have had this preventative maintenance work completed with documentation etc , you won’t be disappointed as this car is so addictive to drive and yes people have made comments regarding it’s a big lump of a motor but until you own one and drive one most comments are from armchair scaremongers and tbh this negative feedback on forums etc drove the prices down a few years ago which enabled me to afford one in fantastic condition for just over 10k which now would be worth around 23k … you won’t regret the purchase I hope it all goes well matey 😎👍🇬🇧
I’ve had my ’09 e60 M5 for 10 years and I have fun driving it but I maintain it and respect it. When I see idiots doing ridiculous burnouts leaning into the rev limiter I want to jerk ‘‘em out of the car that ash them. Those clowns could break anything. For reals brother. Me too!
E60 M5s Magnificent pearls! Thus are for men.
Give pearls to swine and they will trample on them.
I’m so scared to get one, on the used market, but I want one so bad, that v10 is to die for honestly one of the best sounding cars ever. Hopefully I can get lucky and find one in good condition.
Same here….😂 finding one in nsw
Amen! Same!
Did you guys ever find one? If so did you have to do any major maintenance off the bat?
Daily commutes hurt this car more than aggressive driving. This car doesn't like to be stuck in traffic.
v10s and higher are a different ball game. the tingles you get from the engine is a defining moment
Hello. It is a great car. I have one from 2006 and it is a family car and also a sport car. Yes maintenance is the key. Great video. 👍
Your comments on the e60 M5 not being quick but fast are correct, 0-100 is just ok over 100 and the speed climbs really fast.. I used to see 205mph. Awesome car and miss it.
Just don’t put loud exhaust on it, they sound terrible and drone like mad. Keep the exhaust standard.
Thanks for sharing
I've own a 2008 BMW E60 M5 and had it for years before selling it. It was the most enjoyable car I have ever had. I never had any issues. Had the maintenance done meticulously. The people that are complaining are the ones who bought the trash M5 and they are paying the price from the previous owner who trash the car. If taken care of this car are one of the best ever made.
It's awesome that you still love this car so much after 12 years of ownership, you're right, it's a special car and there is something magic about that V10

Not worried about bearings as much as the fuel injectors getting stuck open!
I Black Stone my oil and listen for knock.
Also never stress engine until the molasses oil gets to temp.

I like how subtitles gently say it's music while I'm watching people reving M5 to it's limit. It really is, you are right subtitles!
4+ years now on my 09 m5 just hit 43k miles and shes running strong , only problem I've had is an Idle actuator fail, but other than that shes been an absolute dream to own!!
5:48 everyone complains about smg problems in the e46 m3. Most people just swap to manual when the pump goes bad.
Yup, pump went out at around 110K. throttle actuators, rod bearings, dash wire harness, side mirrors both sides (over rotation), vanos solenoids, two clutches, flywheel, angel eye replacements 2X, and seats front bolster no longer works. That is my 13 years of ownership thus far and its been glorious.
Had the sunroof issue in my E90 328i and it’s because you need to grease the track. It detects too much pressure and opens back up (to prevent crushing fingers) and once it’s greased it will be fine.
One of the most complete videos I've seen on the e60 M5.
Glad to see it brings such joy to you as my e61 does to me.
Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! The difference between someone talking about them while looking in, vs owning one for 10 years i guess. Man it is such a special car.
Mate i highly recommend u to do rod bearings asap if u dont want to deal with damage crankshaft, i bought e60 m5 in manual and i blow it up in 2 weeks
what do you think about BE bearings?
Have a conrod and piston assembly out of one of these on my coffee table as a conversation piece, bearings intact!
May I ask why? I hope it wasn’t your motor when it was running.
No , came across it on Ebay.
Must be from someone else's heartache!
So I did a good choice then - bought the M6 in 2016 with 80.000 kms on the odo...
Now it's at 120.000 kms and still works perfect over 6 years later... love it... and it's an M drivers Edition car (unrestricted)...
I have my M6 GC for now 7 years, and never going to sell it, but i still think and dream about the E60 M5 i sold many years ago ... and in Oktober 23, after a long search, i found a excellent used one, one pre-owner, 80tkm. And what can i tell ... yes, it is not nearly as fast as my M6, but the emotions, the way it bangs the gears is if from another planet! I had (or want) to invest a good amount of money, to renew all fluids, breakes, rims, sparks, filters .... and and and, now it is and feel like a new one! I am never going to sell it as well ;)
I sold my E60 M5 last month. It was indeed a beast. That 12 MPG was eating me alive, though.
Shame to hear. But they would be a painful daily driver in the current world. Its a great car to have for weekends and special occasions.

Thrashing them from cold is the true rod bearing killer.
Sadly when a car is 15 years old and had 5-10 owners, this is almost definitely the case.
E46 smg is always a problem. They're fairly easy to fix today though.
Great car Andrew. Nothing sounds better than a V10 revving out to 8,250rpm. Any modifications on one of these would be very expensive and would require forced induction (supercharger) at the very least. Keep it stock and enjoy driving it. After modifying cars for years, it is sometimes great just to take a standard car for a cruise.
If you ever do rod bearings on it, check M539 videos. He really made it like a tutorial.

Nice review. The main issue stopping me from considering getting one is the fuel consumption / frequent gas station stops. I own a 120D (along with my 335is) and there is something to be said about only visiting the gas station once a month: When the low fuel warning comes on, there's still 2-3 days to go ;)
Finally an Australian that owns and has really DRIVEN an E60 M5. Thanks for the review mate. I'll be next to own one.
I was laughing so hard at the title of this video.
That last burnout clip (with the yellow license plates) was from the Netherlands!
To me this is still the best sounding engine/exhaust note.
I might buy this car as a weekend car. 70k km for 25,000 CAD. What y'all think?
They can be a lot of work if you get one that hasnt been loved. But really worth it. Amazing vehicle and engine.
Don't waste your money. The milage on the car is about the time you need to replace the rod bearings. The biggest problem with the car is, you know that it has been ran. That is the problem with these S85 engines. They should have been recalled but they did not. Anyway, I have a 2006 with $74k USD sitting with a blown engine and metal in the gear box. I was going to replace everything new. Labor $20K USD Engine $21,450 USD SMG 7 speed transmission $9300 USD and other small parts. %8 hours to remove the engine and 58 hours to put it back. I decided it was better to get a new one than fix this 2006. I love the car. But the worst engine they ever made.
Honesty , you bought a lemon my man.

Ok! My first episode and im hooked. I have been Youtubing E60 M5 videos for the last week as I have been offered a 2005 by and old mate in his late 70's who cannot drive it anymore that he bought in 09 and he wants it to go to me at a fair price.. A NSW car always garaged 127k's full service history. Nice condition just needs a good detail and a few scuff marks repaired. BUT being and old rev head he has done some modes and made it a sleeper! Full Hieseman suspension kit, Toned downed exhaust, installed Supercharger by ESS Tuning Melbourne and badge it an 530i badge on the boot. Except for the Dyno i dont think this thing has ever been redlined, its also got a stinger radar detector! Just picked it up today and have it for the weekend to make a call but i think I have already made it. Not sure about all the modes but still going to take it. Thanks again!
The SMG III was a different and mostly superior design to the earlier M3 variants of SMG I and II. People don't like it because it is so different from a manual or automatic. They can't get their heads around it.
I used to quite like this car on track. Back in 2010 i was genuinely impressed with how the trans acted while spanking the car. However after DCTs and ZF8s, the SMG is so lacking. On the same note, it ads a certain character to the car.
I feel like people just don't know how to use it, or won't take the time to learn how to use it properly, so they just dismiss it as being awful. Anyone who's spent enough time in one realises that once you get used to it, it works really well and even better in its most agressive settings. Still, it's no DCT
What a beast! Please change the Vanos oil line too, when changing the bearings. Dutch regards, Nico.
I have been reading of a people who has that vanos problem later on…. Good idea
Love the car , love the engine , love the noise !

Great hearing your experience over the last 12 years!
They’ve not reached that kind of $ value in NZ so far
On the bright side, they don't seem to be declining in value either (around $30K in 2014 and not much different in 2021).. Only a matter of time before they become very collectable in NZ. We are a little slower on the uptake of German muscle cars here but with the death of GM and Ford across the ditch that will shift... lol - There are only so many Mustangs the country can take and Camaros are just too expensive!
@@just4nz They’ve definitely been at the bottom of the curve for some time now. I think the HSV’s & FPV’s will creep up from the same era too
I own a 2010 M6 (build date June 2010 / need of production July 2010) and you need to change the con rod bearings at 70K miles or you will spin a bearing at some point. It is not "if" but rather "when". They are just too narrow for 12:1 compression and an 8,250 redline. Plus the clearances are likely too tight to allow for good oiling when cool. But this problem can be mitigated if you get the car up to full oil temp before taking it over 4K rpm. There is normally a lot more wear on the top 1/2 of the con rod shell which is from the power stroke pushing down on the piston and then the crank pushing the piston back up. The wear on the bottom 1/2 of the shell is much less and likely due to the oiling challenges. I went with BE bearings and ARP studs for the con rod service. I now daily drive the car flat out without fear.

16 litres/100km city, 10 litres/100km highway.
Did the rod bearing, vanos and more. Nice when the engine is warmed up but really crap at low regime and terrible with a cold engine. I am using it like one ride per month.

I have one... Same color, same interior color... ... It's been gone through so well.. .I love it. It's been upgraded to running around 600hp via tune and exhaust. ... Had mine 3 years so far.. a few grand (3,000) spent on the gearbox (Not the SMG pump) is the worst I've had to deal with. 5k km oil changes, Castrol 5W50. I absolutely love it, and nothing sounds like it. You didn't even mentions the active bolters...
I have to be honest...... i have never liked the active bolsters. Had a little bit of seat time in the proper race seats, so whenever i'm in driver mode, i need the seats solid, it really throws me off with feeling what the rear end is doing when the seat moves me.

It’s a shame Australia didn’t get the 6MT because that’s really the best version of this car even if the 1-3 gears are a little tall for the power curve. Picked one up for 15k USD last year and I’ve loved it every minute I’ve owned it
Jesus how did you find a manual 6 speed v10 for 15k ?
If you can afford to destroy your tires like that at $1600/set U.S. bearings, etc, should be no problem. Even if you drive normally, you will only get 20-23k miles on a set of Pilot Sports.
I am the original owner of a 2007, M6, e64. 67k miles. The biggest problem was a faulty voltage regulator that the dealer couldn't diagnose and replaced parts and sensors chasing faults. At $8500, I called BS and told him what was wrong.
I shared your video on my comment to Doug D Bmw M5 review, for people to watch a real review from an owner! I wish to watch more videos about this car on this channel. Currently I own an 2010 e60 n54, I will buy the e60 M5 very soon. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing!
SOP replace the flywheel every second clutch so you are good, but you should have replaced the throw-out.
I've hadn't dropped by in awhile since selling my 335i but glad to see y'all are still killing it! 👊 more subs too I see 🙌
Great video man! I have one in same color and K&N hot air intake. I put the Ram Air's in it to help.
I owned a 2010 M5 and now a 2011 135 DCT gearbox the 135 is jb4 tuned. LeMans blue with coral red interior I bought it 8 years old with 30,092 miles. The M5 was 5 years old. Every option except heads up display. $99,845 MSRP. 5 years old with 37,000 miles and I paid $35,000. My M5 was full merino extended leather. Black sapphire metallic and black interior with wood grain. Makes me wonder if yours is the extended leather since you mentioned the wear on it. I also had the side bolsters that would punch you in the kidneys around corners. I did not baby mine either but I never did a burn out, launch control once. I didn’t have one issue with it except no one wanted to challenge me. Everyone challenges the 135 and it’s annoying AF. It has almost 400 hp.
I dunno..owning something that everyone thinks is a ticking time bomb just adds to the cool school..I mean U drive that down the street and it's ...respect!
Completely agree.
Ive been wanting an s85 car since 2010. I just got one a couple days ago and its a dream come true.
Best review ive seen on this car,and also the only aussie one
Amazing car just bought one deep sea blue metallic over Portland brown interior
Sunroof maybe needs the reset procedure like the pinch window regulator just hold it down for 15 seconds or so. I can't remember if windows need to be up and doors locked or any other preconditions met.
I actually re did my alcantara headliner which required me to remove the sunroof and I had the same issue.. I found that if I just move the sliding portion slightly forward it will close no problems
@@Chicagobahn did you try the reset procedure?
@@Chicagobahn sliding portion you mean the sun shade? Make sure the all sliding portions are lubed and try the reset procedure.
@@igotaction not for the sunroof because the issue happened just once. I did have to do it with my driver window after the headliner replacement though
@@igotaction I will when I get it back, unfortunately my SMG trans is currently split because it needs to be resealed 😭😂
With the oil change interval, remember to do it by km AND annually, so in your case the 10k is not relevant, its each year thats important.
By this time next year I hope to have either M5 or M6 in my arsenal ! Slammed 88 735i ! 13 528i M Sport ! E60/3 ! Can't wait ! I love the clip of GevM5 on the highway btw ! Only way to switch lanes!
Have you guys thought about putting a DSG or a newer box in the M5??

Great to see the glorious V10 in Interlagos blue, but get rid of those tinted taillights for heaven's sake!
I have a 2007 and I love it 3yrs of owning just had my first major issue smg pump on the process of repairing I will never part with the car!!!
Have a 2007 e60 m5 for 1 year now. Did rodbearing maintenance just to have peace in mind. While ago ABS had an issue and was revised. Other than that getting SMG warning from time to time but disappear itself. Other than that car is solid and drives great.
Thanks for making this video and setting the record straight. I've had mine for quite sometime and love it since the day i bought it and still gives me big smile everytime. Throttle actuators are more common than rod bearing. And im looking for another one or doing a engine swap like a v10 on a I8 lol! my advise for new owners or potential owners is to read the manual, it'll help you understand and be able to enjoy the car more.
Definitely looking into getting my first One and I’m seeing a lot of good reviews and forums on the car definitely makes my decision easier 😩
@@cascarucci8935 Good luck and treat her well! 😇
Such a cool car.
I just bought a s85 m6 v10... 90k kilometers... dropped ot of at my car guy to do rad bearings... I don't care what people say..... maintenance is important.... only reason I am doing the bearings is I am not sure what the previous owners did to the car. other than that the m6 make me feel like a kid on Christmas morning opening gifts
You leave the car in drive (D). You come back next day, blip the car open, you hear the hydraulic pump whine to charge the SMG. You get in, key in ignition, foot on brake, shift lever to neutral. You press start. You DO NOT touch the gas pedal for about a minute until the revs drop to 600rpm.
After the start sequence has finished, you push the shift lever over to drive and you pull away and D keeps the revs safely low.
When the oil is good and warm and the rev limiter light rings have moved all the way around, I still wait another five minutes. (Heck I live in a 20 zone for miles).
You do not need to drive in DEFCON5 all the time. P400 is sufficient.
Cruise control and D is there for the "Péage" (pronounced pay-arje) in France. P500s is for the Autobahn.
The only thing faster was a McLaren P1
Great video! I've had my 2010 for almost 5 years. Love it. You can see mine in the UA-cam video titled "CLEANEST 100k Mile M5..." My experience with this car is strikingly similar. This car is special. After the next M5 is introduced (prolly electrified), this car will become a unicorn! I would NOT trade mine for any other supercar. No car envy.
I'll check it out!
is it reliable? if I do the rod bearings, will it be sold? Thank you!
@@Anthony-qh1xv as these cars are old now, there are many possible issues.
I would say one a grand in parts a year if you drive it is sufficient, when you have a very well maintained car.
For example when the Rodbearings are shot, the mainbearings also will not last that long anymore. And they are much much much more expensive (makes sense to make a complete rebuild then)
Has anyone got one on original bearings? Saw a poll where 5% of owners had bearings failure which is still quite high but no where near bad as the internet makes it out to be .
I have the same color combo 2006 but it's parked outside my house. Engine issues. I would love your help to advise me the best way to get it up and running.
Hi there, wondering if you can help, I have an annoying airbag light flag up, thanks very much for the video I'm in the UK and have owned my E60 M5 2005 since July and what a machine! Learnt a lot through the video thank you 👍🏻
You simply have to get it on a scanner and see what is causing the light. Often its a seat sensor or even the steering wheel position sensor. The later which can be cleaned fairly easily.
@@ZeroTo60Tube thanks very much, I'm a superkart racer which is much less complicated! I know there's a lot goes on superkart wise in Australia! Would love to come and race 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the good content. Keeping our M5, letting go of our R34 GTT tough choice but the M5 hasn’t yet appreciated unlike the Skyline.
Thanks for checking it out.
it will when it hits its proper hype, its coming boys its coming
I love the M5 and M6 V10!! Probably sounds a bit obvious but can't you build a mezzanine for it (with reflective matrial) my mate has one for his E36.
Awesome video, I’m torn between e92 m3 and the E60 M5 I’m heading to London this week to view both cars
Both wonderful. Both special. I have a particular soft spot for the v10. It does unfortunately overshadow the chassis. However it’s just such a special engine.
The e92 m3 is in all honesty a better car. But it has never given me the feeling the e60 m5 does. Even now it’s very hard to put in to words what an e60 m5 is….
I’m keen to hear which one you end up with or both 😝
I did just last week pick up another e60 m5 and I’m finally putting the dct transmission in to one.
Wow e60 M5 with a DCT my god that’s a special car , i didn’t realise you could do a DCT conversion I knew about the manual alright , iv a similar train a of about the 2 cars I’ll test drive both and see what wins my heart over , I’ll keep you posted 🙌🏻🙏🏻
@@ZeroTo60Tube congrats on the 2nd E60 M5! dude, do a video series on the DCT swap! Views will go through the roof! BTW, smg pump went out of my 2nd E60 M5, (my daily) it was giving me signs that it was slowly dying before it did. I will replace it next week with an aftermarket pump: MLREng, it suppose to be a better pump. My 1st E60 M5 that I use for long road trips with my wife has been super reliable!
Nice one. Reminded me of those British style car review shows when you were driving and admiring the car !
I’ll take that! Haha
Yeah I’d watch more of this car in addition to the N54s haha
Definitely need more e60 vids. Do you guys get diff knocks when stationary? As I've been noticing that a fair bit in mine lately
My 2006 knocks when turning at very slow speeds like making u-turns or turning out of my driveway. Any ideas/suggestions?
People call it unreliable, and then there's me taking it on 10+ 800 mile road trips every year lol
This is my dream car! Is it reliable? if I do the rod bearings, and a few other things, is it solid for years? Thanks!
This car is SOLID, so long as it is properly maintained. People forget (or overlook) that it IS a supercar.
@@darrenpitts4521 Right! people don't take care of a car (That needs more love and attention than a normal car lol) then they call it unreliable... Doesn't make sense. I have an X4 M sport, I love it! it is nice, But cost more than a normal car to keep on the road. It needs more than a normal car to keep going, but it is worth it 10/10 times.
FYI: 100K Km = 62K miles...typically people in US reported issues near 100K miles
its all about how you use it. seen cas with +200 000km on the glock and no bearings done, keeps on going. Smg, everybody has there own oppinions, i kinda like it, kicks in the back goes, sure, if you drive in the city with automatic mode, its shit.
Well I guess I am one of the few people who properly maintained their E60 M5 and didn't beat it. 2 owner car. First owner was an older gentleman who had all service records since he bought the car new.
The car just had a muffler delete. I even had the 6 spd manual. The car had under 90k miles and still got metal flakes in the oil which turned out to be a bad rod bearing and upon further inspection of the other bearings, you could see where they were starting to show scoring. I have a few BMW tech friends who have noted it is because (especially with the true M engjnes) the clearance is just too tight and winds up causing a lubrication issue.
That isn't just the only issue, there where issues with the vanos pump which compounds the issue with the rod bearings.
Edit: Despite all that it was one of my favorite cars that just had such a unique sound. I even had the little sister 545i with a 6 spd manual. Both were very fun cars to drive minus the tons of headaches I had.
How long you had metal flakes? At what mileage did you notice it?
how much money did you put into it, mechanically
Over 10 years sub $5000
@@ZeroTo60Tube what's the average yearly maintenance cost?
@@elitear618 It really depens on many factors. However, aside from rod bearings and throttle actuators, maintenance is no different to BMW
@@ZeroTo60Tube Thanks
Just get the later BMW rod bearings if the oil analysis shows elevated metals in the oil after 6,000miles. Another thing. FCS use Castrol 10W60 and all BMW parts.
Change the SMG box fluid before it gets black. Never let a weeping diff go un-serviced - even genuine replacement seals can fail within 1,000miles.
Under warranty mine was in BMW twice a year until all the gremlins were ironed out. They just need a whole lot of loving and return it in spades.
I...want...one...! Together with my N54 and N20 I'll the have the trifecta of BMW's most reliable motors 🙂
