    I bought a new Toyota Camry 2025 and experiencing this same issue. As soon as I disconnect carplay the navigation on my phone works as it should be and when I connect it again to carplay the same thing repeats. Did you find a resolution for this thing?

    Did you check your Google maps also? I use that in my Raptor and it did same thing, switched to Apple and had the same result. Nothing I did changed the issue. Noticed later it was when driving through certain areas that it would happen to BOTH mapping systems.

      The issue is with both Apple carplay and Google maps. However, BMW navigation would work perfectly fine.

      OK Keep in mind this happened to me in two (or three?) different location between Alabama, Minnesota and Texas. In a Ford Raptor (I also have a Dodge Challenger and BMW 230i). With Google Maps at first BUT ALSO with Apple Maps when I swapped over to it, which is why I still think it was a satellite coordination issue either with that area (happened in Alabama days apart as a I passed through it going to and returning from Florida) or cellular GPS sync which is also possible. Anyhow, good luck with it.

    This is not a BMW thing. I rent a Toyota on my way back home and same issue happened. It happened because Apple CarPLAY default to use Vehicle's GPS Antenna.
    They do not rely on iPhone antenna once connected to Vehicle unlike Android Auto.
    This is the reason Android Auto works well.
    If your vehicle has inbuilt GPS Navigation, then ensure that works fine whenever you face issue with CarPlay navigation.
    If your vehicle does not have inbuilt Navigation, then check if it has a working GPS antenna. If the GPS antenna is not working properly then your CARPLAY will get wrong location information and will pass to Maps apps.
    If no Antenna, then CarPlay is built to behave like a dumb - guy and will rely on FM Antenna and will get and feed wrong GPS data to CarPlay.

    Google maps, Waze and other systems will get the gps location from the car's head unit GPS module. So if there's a problem with how that information is passed to Apple Carplay/Android Auto or if there's a problem with the GPS modeule itself... then it will be refleted on the app even though the problem is technically on the car manufacture's end.
    I whish there was a way or an alternative app that does not rely on the GPS location from Apple Car play and relies only on the iphone gps, iphone's gps by itself has never failed on me.

    I found a workaround that might help as my apple maps was malfunctioning since 2 days and it worked out at the end. Connect a different phone that hasn't been paired with the car before, and Apple Maps should start working. Then, turn off the car and reconnect the original phone. This should resolve the issue.

    It’s definitely a CarPlay issue. I’m on my 4th CarPlay vehicle, this 1 is I drive 8. Last 2 were Acura, worked often, but would totally crash in & out on my MDX wireless, middle of trips. On wired TLX, maps would flash in & out. Also had issues in Tahoe CP prior, but not as often. I just started setting car nav as backup, I also use CP for Apple Music & Siruis app

      Hmm I would say do a hard restart on your phone and then try to connect it. Delete your phone off your car and re pair it. See if it helps.
      After that update I have not had this wandering issue. Granted I’ve had a few times where it would not connect to the phone but that was brief.

    What’s so wrong with using the idrive8 navigation? I agree it should work but why this obsession with phone navigation? I use the phone to troubleshoot traffic issues but they don’t always magically reroute without going back a screen and asking directions again.

    • @Upstate330
      @Upstate330  Рік тому

      Just a personal preference as I use Apple Music and Google maps and it’s easier to adjust address or add destination on the fly.

    • @oatmealinthemorning
      @oatmealinthemorning 10 місяців тому

      When working, CarPlay just makes life easier. If you have an appointment on your calendar, it automatically loads the address into the GPS immediately when you get into your car. It knows you have an appointment. Also, on a recent road trip, I saved all our stops ahead of time under Favorites and this list pops up on maps, making it convenient to click and go. Also, since your address book is on your phone, you can just ask Siri for directions to a business or friends that is already in your address book. I can go on but I think you get the point.

    It’s an Idrive 8 issue. I’ve stopped using CarPlay navigation ( Google maps/Waze) because of it. I’m read on the forums that BMW is aware of it and they plan to fix it in a future update, but exactly when that would be is unknown.
    I’ve seen a few suggestions to fix it but none have worked for me.
    At least the Idrive navigation works well. I’ve had no complaints with it, and as a bonus you get map directions in the HUD and in the instrument cluster.
