Wonderful lesson for all the kids who think torque is more important than hp. The M340i has 40hp more than the diesel but 220Nm less torque, and yet, was clearly and consistently faster. It's the hp that counts in a drag race. Torque is great for towing.
Actually torque and revs lead to horsepower. {HP = (Torque (lb-ft) * RPM) / 5252}. For all day drive torque is better for acceleration because you don't have to shift back 2 or 3 gears to be fast. Diesels tend to have a higher average power delivery than a petrol equivalent because they have more power over the total rev bandwidth. So the same car that has a 300 HP diesel engine is faster than a petrol version with the same maximum 300 HP. It's the average power that counts, and a higher torque means more average power. Torque is for acceleration, horsepower is to hold the maximum speed.

To me the m340i really felt weaker, except at very high revs were it had a relatively short power burst. Btw: The torque does not dissapear quickly at all on the diesel, it keeps pulling up to 260 km/h because it shifts right back onto the maximum torque sweetspot. The M340i does not do that, that torque bandwidth feels smaller compared to the diesel. Mostly because the diesel has more torque at 2500 RPM than the petrol has at 6000 RPM at it's maximum. I did a reset from the panel in the car. But what's most interesting. Previously, I had a different car sound with eco and switching to sport+. Now I don't feel any difference when starting the car. And there was a different characterization. The flaps open. and they are open all the time. Tuning has been undone. I called the dealership and they said that the flaps should open in comfort and sport+ modes. However, they are still open. The guy who previously converted from the US to the EU accessed my car remotely and doesn't know what could be wrong. I have a cable for remote connection. the steering wheel also behaves similarly in all modes. I have the impression that the car is in sport mode. Changing to comfort and eco does not cause any difference in the behavior of the car and the steering wheel works just as hard. The only difference is in sport+, where the car actually revs higher. I've read that people have various problems after replacing the battery. technical, but I haven't read about a case like mine anywhere. Please help.

Thats how u do 330i LC....not 330e

Gotta love the Hybrid!
Damn the gear races made this video pretty cool
M340d will no longer be on sale in the U.K. from June this year. The end of the performance diesel wagon.
Is that due to regulations?
Sad state of affairs
@@Timetraveller101more a case of Bmw U.K. choosing, as they did with taking all the 5-series diesels off sale - even though you can still buy a 5-series diesel in Europe. But yes influenced by average CO2 over all sales.
Sad, really really sad
Sound sad, but we never have M340d sale in Thailand T_T. I still waiting for it for a decade.
i just bought a 545e - love it
does it has 6 cylinder engine + hybrid?
@@funfzylinderyeah the b58 hybrid
@@funfzylinderyes 3.0 turbo hybrid, but 390 bhp 🎉
@@SuperRob41 whats ur fuel consumption on average? is it a good daily? Id like to own one
@@funfzylinder the range is 300 miles, electric and petrol, I am showing about 40mpg - it does have a small fuel tank 45l - and the electric seems to be about 25miles. cost about £5 to fully charge the battery at a public point - cheaper at home
so depends on what driving you do - as to the fuel consumption -
as a daily its amazing, smooth - powerful - great tech and looks really good
Thank you CARWOW
£1000 for a tune is ludicrous. I paid £200 for a fully bespoke tune on my Big BHP Seat Ibiza PD130. Was road tuned did 5 renovations of the map. On a hybrid turbo. To pay £1000 is crazy
Ibiza PD130 ? guys living in 2005 😂. This is new technology Ibiza would blow up racing these beasts.
@@Thuds593 it really wouldn’t 😂😂😂. And either way my comment is on the fact of the price of the tune. My fully bespoke road tune cost me £200.
Please do more of these last gear races... They will definately bring out some interesting outcomes with various vehicle models.
I love how the subtitles are just completely wrong 😂
When Daniel said banging it, I wasn't expecting the dog 🤣🤣🤣
Never a fan of BMW, but I felt this espisode was the most in depth as to why each car performed in short.
I love my 540ix.. few mods, tune and you have a luxurious car that will do 0-60
In 2nd race, that start by racing driver SAM was epic🔥💀
Yeh definitely will pick the 3 series over the other ones
6:55 first time ive seen Matt in last place
Where are the Bmw fan boyz 😂??
Right here!!!! 😂🎉
Here what's up.?

Goodyear eagleF1's are very good tyres, Pirelli's I have never liked and had them removed from my bmw before they were even half worn .
unpopular opinion: 1000 bucks for a preconfigured ecu map that needs 3 minutes to install is incredibly bad value.
What if you include Research and development costs?
@@semicolon101 by who?
The problem is the ECUs are locked by BMW. Pre 2020 cars are much cheaper to map
@@Carlos1180 this exactly. You either have to get a tuning box or send the ECU to Femto in Finland for a bench unlock.
If you're looking to tune, the cars built before June 2020 are the way to go. And it's important that they haven't received ECU updates after that date, else they're locked too.
It’s actually 2k…😂… ecu needs to be unlocked (1k) THEN the 2 remaps (1k). BUT in reply to your question, it’s actually a decent map (not a generic one) tailored to your car on a dyno. I’d pay 1k for it on mine but 2k is to much
M340i, but I don't like BMW cars; there was a time in which I liked them, but that time has gone for good. Thanks for the video Mat.
great test, Ive got a 340i and also a 340d and the 340i has averaged 34mpg with the 340d at 44mpg. When ur in the mood the 340i is best but for everyday the 340d wins....
When your in mood 340d can work too
i’ve got m3 and m4 and m5 and m6 and i get 20 mpg from them
nope, petrol R6 BMW can work about 7-8 l\100
M340i for everyday wins, that’s obvious. 340d is a dull purchase, want to get an economy/performance - buy a tesla, but when you already spend a bunch on money for 3 serious, please don’t tell us about these 10mpgs. I’ve tested 340i and 340d, on highway it’s 1-1.5l difference, diesel with shitty sound, no emotions and vibrations is so idiotic
@@777DaKe777 kid the modern diesel got zero vibrations and it’s wayyy more efficient and is as quick too you high or smthing
Very respectable time for the plug in hybrid.
Teeeeechnically speaking the B58 is also a hybrid. A mild hybrid. 🤓

@@24k__Jis got a B48 in it, you might be surprised by that 2.0 litter engine. Is much better than the B58 in economy, and it barely outruns the B48 (both tuned) considering the difference
These B48`s need their rear muffler to be removed to sound good. The rear OEM muffler is made specifically so it sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
I got my 2023 330e and I am really happy with how it drives. The best car for my needs of a city commuter car that I can charge overnight. I rarely do a drag race but can beat 98/100 cars on lights and 99/100 on flying start. However, I need to give another try to the launch control, since it didnt work I assumed it didnt have one but I never tried to add the switched off traction control to the mix.
True the 330e is an amazing car to drive. A few weeks ago I won a drag race from an megane rs

I have a BMW M850 XDrive. Year 2019. After purchase, everything worked. I went for chip tuning and popcorn making. Then I went to a mechanic who replaced the battery in the front of my car (technical) and did some digging because I wanted to have a BMW Me. Car from the USA and he came to the conclusion that he wouldn't do it. I picked up the car, the radio was Sirus (America), it was impossible to change the time, it was New York.

Drag race ❤❤
330i is faster than the 330e 0-60. The 330i has 258hp while the 330e has 292hp but the 330i on paper still does 0-60 in 5.2sec whereas the 330e does it in 5.4sec, probably due to it being heavier. Would have loved to see the 330i in this comparison, very underrated and sounds beautiful as well.
I believe you're referring to the F30 without Eboost. The G30 with Eboost has a 4.9 0-60 time
We need to see a M550d drag race that’s the proper M diesel engine
Little detail, take a look at the push to start button on each car, BMW makes different buttons for diesel, petrol and hybrid. nice one
The beamer in the middle on the first drag race jumped the start
That 2L B48 is a 4 cilinder monster.
I have the 330e and IT HAS LAUNCH CONTROL and use the XTRABOOST!!
I had m550d f10 high way consumption 8-10l at 140-180km/h now have 540i g30 stg2 tuned highway consumption 8-10-140-180km/h no question B58
Not very fair the diesel being the estate variant, it's already heavy enough being diesel.
More torque though.
How much lighter is the sedan version ?🤔
@@Manu-Official You know torque is meaningless. Only HP matters for acceleration. Especially when you consider that the torque on the wheels is the same, because of the gearbox...
Try racing a truck engine. 2000Nm, but 400hp. It will go just as fast as any other 400hp car (assuming the same weight)
